There are mentally ill people all over the world, what is it about our country that cause our mentally ill to reek such havoc, just asking?

Are you forgetting the incident in Norway I think (which has very strict guns laws) where the individual shot a number fo people including children at a camp?

      • http://www.facebook.com/people/Vernon-Sukumu/100000963359102 Vernon Sukumu

Its against the law in Norway or the rest of Scandinavia to hit your child, or anyone else. The descendants of the Vikings have opted for peace and a less violent society. Those four countries combine have average less then ten homicide a year. Norway is so sure of there way of life that there maxium sentence is 21 years. There is provision for someone like this killer to stay in jail for the rest of his life. Robert you conviently forget to mention that the shooter was a right wing white supremacist, who blamed the political party in power, for not keeping Norway and Europe all white, so murdering their children was his revenge.

Since you are so worried about giving up rights do you support the right to have access to contraceptio? Remember if Rick Santorum had his way they would be outlawed.

      • http://www.facebook.com/people/Vernon-Sukumu/100000963359102 Vernon Sukumu

When the bill of rights was ratified in 1791, white male had all that land to take from the Native American, slave to keep in their place, the war of 1812 to fight. There was manifest destiny, the war of 1846-48, that took half of Mexico.( I know the 15 million, why the war)? The Spanish American war, Puerto Rico, Guam, and the white man burden, the Philippine. Since WW 1 we have created the biggest army (by many times over) in the world, we don’t need you are those so call militia running around looking for UN helicopter, you don’t have to hunt for food. If Mexico or Canada attack our big military will destroy them, who else Bahamas, Cuba same result. Article 1 of the constitution say that black folks were 3/5 human, some of you have given that up, some haven’t. Twelve of the first eighteen president came from slave owing families, these old white men were not perfect, and neither was any document that they created. If the second amendment is absolute, it gave the well regulated militia, the right to carry a musket.

They sell guns in Japan but you have to go to the police to get your ammo. When your day of shooting is over you return the empty shells and are given credit for unused shells. Gun ownership there is very low.

There will be gun control – If the NRA were wise, they would back “Wise” gun control to avoid the Over-The-Cliff version

    • http://profile.yahoo.com/GGHNYPK4GNCRYZLXWVZ447WHJM Plznnn

The problem with gun control is that supporters of gun control never stop and want more. But our right to bear arms is about protecting Americans from a corrupt Federal Government, and if bad people have certain types of weapons, why shouldn’t Law-Abiding Citizens? All the bans in the world won’t stop sociopaths allowed to roam our streets because of liberal policies, from hurting innocent people, plus the moral breakdown of our society.
p.s. Check out the amount of violent crime & murder caused by the Millions of Illegal trespassers in our country. Never hear any outrage about that, do we?

      • Max_Sped

Aye, Piznnn, your outlook, attitude, typical of NRA Radicals, is the reason there will be Gun Control Law(s) passed – NRA could be instrumental in establishing good, livable, reasonable Gun Control.
p.s. In Texas, we are confronted everyday with the cost and damage resulting from Illegal Aliens.

      • archabsurd

Plznnn, I’m so sick and tired of hearing about protecting “law abiding citizens” and “responsible gun-owner’s” rights. What about the rights of innocent children? Britain had 64 gun deaths last year. Japan – 7. America (not counting suicides) 16,000!!! Why do 16,000 people have to be killed so “law abiding citizens” can have their damn guns. What is wrong with limiting the size of clips, banning assault rifles, requiring background checks, having a waiting period and having to have a license to own one, you sickening whiners? Are you all five years old? How would you like to be a first-grader watching your classmates being blown to bloody bits at close-range by a crazed lunatic, knowing you’re next and you have to look into the eyes of this monster with the gun-barrel of an assault rifle in your face. One little boy was shot ELEVEN F****ING TIMES!!! Maybe justice would be to have a massacre at a gun-show or the NRA headquarters. Then what would these
sniveling cowards have to say? Would they be on the talk shows the next day advocating for their measly rights? Don’t say it wouldn’t happen because the Nra people would gun him down, With a “Bushmaster” he could get off 50 rounds before anyone could respond. The problem is not the mental health of the lunatics. The problem is the mental health of the NRA members and the gun lobby. Why can’t someone be satisfied with a six-shot pistol, a hunting rifle and a shotgun? Why does anyone need an arsenal in their home? Maybe your goddam guns SHOULD be confiscated!! I can’t believe that I’m hearing these apologists still coming out of the woodwork after Friday.
You began by saying ” …supporters of gun control never stop and want more” Are you f***ing serious? You people are the most dangerous and sickest of the sick. You should be locked up and put in a straight-jacket, you imbecile!! The right-wing lackies and the NRA are a much bigger threat to America than any terrorist,

        • http://profile.yahoo.com/5SGJ4KSRJULXIGZCXZIR7IWSW4 Robert

The reason that assult weapons are still legal is that the founding fathers understood that when the government (at that time all the king’s men) were better armed than the populace then the populace was screwed. The cost of the FIrst Amendent is pornography and its effects and unfortunately the cost of the Second Amendment is that when a deranged person decides to act in a heinous fashion he has a readily available outlet. Connecticut has some of the most strict gun laws in the country and as you can see it had no effect.

          • http://www.facebook.com/people/Theresa-Darklady-Reed/581698361 Theresa ‘Darklady’ Reed

I’m not sure that pornography – which is a legal collaboration between willing partners — and mass shootings are equal.

Those kinds of comparisons are part of the reason that editorial cartoons like this exist, though…

          • RobertCHastings

Did you just call “Robert” an editorial cartoon? I don’t know, but I feel that might offend his mother.

          • College_Park_Guy_1812

Robert, you’re dumb … the government at that time wasn’t “all the king’s men!” When the Bill of Rights was written the government was comprised of white, male property owners, many if not most slave owners … no women, no blacks, no renters.

          • http://www.facebook.com/frederick.l.sr Frederick L May Sr

At the time gun laws were written we did not have weapons like we do today. Most were flintlocks. You fire your gun and reload. There were NO weapons like we have today

          • tobyspeeks

CT has some of the most strict laws? You can conceal and carry in schools in CT, how is that most strict?

If the guns are not secured what good are the strick laws.

Archabsurd – I love everything you said and the anger behind it, too! After all the horrific shootings we’ve witnessed via the media, how can anybody deny the need for gun control! These poor children, the kids that made it out, their friends and families will never be the same. I don’t think I ever will be the same either. I am sickened and so saddened by this tragedy. We have to do everything in our power to put an end to mass shootings which have been happening with ever increasing frequency.

          • http://profile.yahoo.com/7IRWBCERNRLG7KMSNPOSW64I74 Infringed

I deny the need for gun control. If the principal or another responsible adult was allowed to have a gun locked in their desk, maybe some of those poor children wouldn’t have died waiting for the first responders to arrive. The nut job in the Oregon mall shooting ran around a corner and killed himself after being confronted by a citizen with a gun. That citizen didn’t even fire a shot.

You cannot fix crazy people by restricting everyone else. In a perfect world, no one would have guns or nuclear weapons. The reality is apparent. We do not live in a perfect world. I just attended a gun show that was packed with people in fear of the government taking away their second amendment rights. All those guns, ammunition, and people, and zero reports of violence or mob runs on ammo dealers. Can we say the same thing when supplies of Air Jordans run low?

“The very atmosphere of firearms anywhere and everywhere restrains evil interference. They deserve a place of honor with all that is good.” – George Washington

Stoo-pid! LaPierre’s statement that the best way to counter a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun was just plain stupid. Did you miss yesterday the statement by one of those present when Gabby Giffords was shot (along with others)in Arizona? He was a “good guy with a gun”, in a store across the street when he heard the shooting. He pulled his gun out, ran across the street, and was about ready to blow away the guy holding a gun, which had JUST BEEN TAKEN AWAY from Jared Loughner. Thank God he didn’t just pull the trigger. The point is, the good guy could have made the situation much worse, by either shooting a hero or by getting himself killed.

          • RobertCHastings

George Washington never, even in his wildest military dreams, envisioned a populace armed withweapons that could kill unarmed people at the rate of 30+ per minute. Hell, even his own army had nothing of the sort. To compare the weaponry Washington and others had available in 1789 to what is available today is just plain stupid. A flintlock rifle, in the hands of a true expert, can fire, at the most, three times per minute. A simple bolt action rifle today (even those available over 150 years ago, far outperform what Washington’s troops used. I realize it is a stretch for you, but do try to envision Washington’s troops with AK47s. The colonial Americans would have ruled the world, with only about 5% of the world’s population (sort of like the US today), and would have engaged in a campaign of world conquest. Too bad, because wewould have been the Nazi Germany of the 1930s and 40s.

          • Dr_MJ

actually, more people die at the hands of a family member with a gun. If fact those most at risk for gun violence are those who own a gun. for every story that someone stopped a killing there are literally thousands where it caused the violence…. The same week as Sandy hook a man from Minnesota who thought he had a plan about how to be safe with a gun. A life long gun owner shot his granddaughter she sneaked out of the house and he thought she was an intruder he got scared and fired first. This this type of story is much more common.

        • Cairndance

It only took ONE crazy man on an airplane, trying to light his shoes on fire and now every one of us takes our shoes off at the airport!
How many more inocent people have to die before we do something about guns?

          • Erik Nash

Guns are not the problem Cairndance, nut jobs, criminals armed to the teeth with military inspired weaponry is though. You can create the world’s largest data base of criminals and the mentally disturbed, but it won’t do anything because the police won’t/can’t react to a situation with those types of individuals until they do something illegal (i.e. walk into a mall and mow down shoppers or into a school and murder children), and giving teachers guns is another issue. Most of these criminals took out adults first then children if you notice, so if you arm the teachers and they get shot then wouldn’t that firearm that is in their desk or purse be used by the same person that killed them before killing that class?

      • RobertCHastings

Gun control supporters would want more? And just what does that “more” look like, at least to you?
Apparently you haven’t heard how well the gun control efforts succeeded in Australia in 1996. Gun violence didn’t go down just a percentage point or two, it went down more than 50 percentage points. The Journal of the American Medical Association (folks who should know a lot about gun violence since they see all the victims) most recent study of gun violence clearly demonstrated that those areas which have the most stringent gun control in this country have the lowest rates of gun violence. I just don’t understand how such a prestigious group can come up with such logical and reasonable conclusions, don’t you?

Bozo the Idiot strikes again. I know guns don’t kill people, people kill people. Well the use of semi-automatic weapons with large bullet clips (don’t want to upset you gun nuts by calling the guns used as automatic) allows these people to shoot and kill many people without having to re-load. Why anyone not on a police force or in the military needs semi-automatic weapons with 15 – 30 bullet clips or more is beyond reason. I know when the black hellicopters, US Gov’t forces or UN forces come to take over my town I will need these weapons to repel these tyrannical forces. I think not

Also Bozo I just talked with Alexis de Tocqueville and he told me to tell you to stop quoting him in your inane comments

    • metrognome3830

OMG, I know you think that is quite a clever observation, but at a time like this, I don’t find it very funny. I really don’t believe there is any way to deny the fact that something has to be done about gun control. I would never accuse you of being unconcerned about little first grade kids being mowed down with a semi-automatic rifle. I don’t believe that the shooter or his mother had any good reason to own such a weapon. I’m not going to get into speculating about the kid’s mental state. I don’t think anyone knows that. But I will speculate that there was no good reason to have a 30-round clip on this weapon. If you are a hunter, and you claim you are, how many times have you needed 30 shots to hit your target? I learned to hunt with a single-shot .22. What is so limiting of your gun rights to ban oversize clips except for military or law enforcement use? Would that ruin the lives of gun owners/hunters/target shooters? If this doesn’t stir some reasonable action, what will it take. Do we need some poor deranged soul to walk into a hospital nursery with a semi-automatic weapon and kill all the newborn babies to get some action? You put up a quote from Adolph Hitler to justify your position? I don’t think most people are proposing that all weapons be banned. You Hitler quote is just not funny! Sorry buddy, I just don’t like it at all.

      Have a nice day!

      • ObozoMustGo

Hey Metro! I hope you had a nice weekend. I did about 1000 miles on my truck… outch… it likes gasoline… a lot! :-)

Anyway, who does like Hitler quotes? Their not supposed to be liked. That’s sort of the point. You know he was democratically elected, dont you? And the people willingly gave up their weapons so they could all be safe. Afterall, their dear leader was such a good man, wasn’t he? Ooops…. too late, you aint getting them back once their taken. I can think of about….. uhhhh…… maybe…… 6 million jews that wished they had a chance to defend themselves.

The point is that no matter what we do, we cannot prevent crazy bastards from doing what crazy bastards do. Why do I have to have my 2nd Amendment rights infringed because of some lunatic? You do know that a similar incident occurred last week in China, don’t you. Except there, a crazy guy got into a school and killed 20+ people, children and teachers, with a knife. Are we going to outlaw knives, too? What about the biggest school masacre in US history? You know, the one in 1927 where that guy killed 38 people in a Michigan school??????? With dynomite? And what about McVeigh killing 168 people in OK City? Should we outlaw rental trucks and fertilizer? The list goes on and on and on, Metro. If only we outlawed everything, we’d all be safe in a perfect world, wouldn’t we? You guys on the left just like bitching about guns and politicize every tragedy that comes along. Sad.

The real answer lies in having teachers and/or administrators armed and trained. That being known, fewer of these freaks will even attempt such actions. And if they do, the death toll is not likely to be so high.

        Merry Christmas!

“Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.” – Ben Franklin

Bonzo why must you right winger lie about ALMOST every thing? I didn’t say everything . Twenty three kids were cut with said knife, none of them have died. Tim McVeigh was part of your political ilk I’am surprise you brought him up.

          • ObozoMustGo

Vern Suks.. I did not read what you wrote. I had heard about that story over the weekend and the story was that they were dead. It looks like Chinese media has the same problem with accuracy as the US media. The whole CT story on Friday was almost completely wrong, as well. Matters not, though Vern. Fact is that bad guys do bad stuff. Guns have nothing to do with it. The hands that hold them have everything to do with it. And one other point, you leftist freaks like to say McVeigh was right wing, but it’s not true. He was an anti government skin head and anarchist. That is not conservative by any stretch of the immagination. Besides, most of these perpetrators are leftists like the kid that shot Gabby or anarchists. This is true. Get used to it. Conservatives are the ones carrying weapons that limit what these leftist scumbags like Lanza can do in situations like the CT school.

            Merry Christmas!

        • metrognome3830

Hi, OMG. You must have saddle sores and a thin wallet after that weekend.

No, sorry OMG, we are far apart on this. How is taking away a 30-round clip infringing on your second amendment rights? That’s the kind of change I am referring to. Not taking away your weapons. Trust me, OMG, I will make sure you have your legal firearms for hunting and self-defense. Perhaps I have a rosier outlook on life, but in all my years of hunting and owning multiple firearms, the only time I felt threatened was by a couple of dimwitted nimrods out hunting deer. After the second close call, I stopped hunting. Neither of these dingbats were shooting at a deer, they were just firing their rifles randomly. So much for firearms training. They obviously had none nor were they required to. You try to justify your position by citing other mass murders? Doesn’t work for me. And the favorite argument you gun rights activists always come up with: “you guys on the left just like politicizing every tragedy.” What the hell is political about asking for a few minimal controls OMG? It’s the NRA crowd that politicizes the whole argument. The only cliché you missed is “cars kill people so should we outlaw cars?” Of course not. And the majority of people are not advocating for the outlaw of guns. That rhetoric is just as nonsensical as the people who advocate the total ban on guns.

          Have a nice day!

As for Ben Franklin’s quote, I don’t think he was referring to giving up assault weapons that fire 60 rounds a minute, since an “assault weapon” in his time was a single shot muzzle loading musket. Not exactly a mass murder type weapon.

          • ObozoMustGo

Yes.. my saddle certainly had sores… sheesh… and the wallet is much lighter, but we had fun, as usual.

Tell you what Metro…. I’ll give up all my guns when you can prove to me that the criminals will give up all theirs as well. Until then, no restrictions. If I want 30 round clips because I like shooting tree stumps with them, then that’s my business. If I want 30 round clips because 4 thugs are armed and robbing my house, that’s my business. You see, when you regulate and control guns, Metro, you only do so for law abiding citizens. Do you think criminals will all of a sudden obey laws? And for that remote chance that when we have finally had all the government we can take and it’s time to re-up on the Declaration of Independence, I’ll be happy to contribute to the efforts of militia. It’s far fetched, I know. But that’s exactly why we have the 2nd Amendment. Without the Colonial soldiears bringing their own weapons, you’d have a British accent today.

You seemingly like criticizing quotes based upon when they were made, but this ignores the fact that there is wisdom in the quotes. And wisdom is timeless.

            Merry Christmas, Metro!

Forks weren’t designed only as killing machines and are not normally used to commit acts of violence primarily directed at others. The only person I hurt with a fork is myself.

Also, you might want to check out when gun control actually started in Germany. It didn’t start with Hitler.

Gun control only works for the LAW-ABIDING .It is time to inform the GUN MANUFACTURERS that they must build SAFTY into the weapons they produce like ELECTRONIC FINGERPRINT IDENTIFIERS, , and RETINAL SCANNERS INTO THE SCOPES of LONG RIFLES , as an example, or WE THE PEOPLE WILL HAVE THEIR LISCENSING PULLED, which will prohibit their gun sales in this country.

How can anyone justify owning assault type weapons, and use the US Constitution as their reasoning???? Do you honestly believe our founding fathers had that in mind???? How many more of these tragedies will have to be endured before we say enough????

    • johninPCFL

Yes. The Founding Fathers had in mind that the populace would have the same weapons as the military, so they could withstand a Government assault by the military. That is also why there is a stipulation in Section 8 of the Constitution that we would have no appropriation funding an army lasting more than two years.

    • archabsurd

Right, Cliffb47, remember plznnn – when the second amendment was passed it took 15 seconds to load one musket-ball into a rifle.

The gun manufacturers are one of the area’s that Bain type companies stay away from! They are another bank type do no wrong your in my crosshairs business. Look at Remington! They hid the fact that a very popular sporting rifle had a major defect and the resulting lawsuits were settled with stipulation of no publicity! How do you manufacture something defective! It’s called BOTTOMLINE! Same with the AR-15, If you drop it in a puddle it’s a 50/50 chance it will jam. Almost every vietnam era soldier autobiography I’ve read has said it had caused the death of many frontline grunts. But stopping manufacturing now is a little too late! The republicans will backpedal this like everything else they approve of.

  • http://www.facebook.com/LADDIED Larry Dennis

Guns do not kill people. People kill people. The number of violent crimes has fallen as the number of gun owners has risen over the last few years. Criminals do not like confronting armed citizens. If a nut case wants to kill a bunch of kids a car bomb does an excellent job. Look at the far East. If you want to reduce gun deaths then disarm police. Police killed over half of the yearly gun fatalities. 900,000 people died last year from medical mistakes. Lets ban Doctors.
I hate the thought of innocent children being killed. It is the ultimate insanity. The problem is bad people, not bad guns. We have the highest rate of infant mortality, in the industrialized world, because we have a lot of bad Doctors who are more interested in making money then healing people. Address some of your anger in that direction.
If every teacher in that school had been armed and trained in weapons handling, how far would this killer have gotten. If we disarm citizens, criminals will still get weapons. They can then slaughter unarmed citizens at their will, just as the maniac did at this school.

Larry, Larry, Larry – YOU are a crazed criminal with a weapon. YOU are a danger to us all. So, you say a BETTER way to kill a bunch of kids would be a car bomb. I have three wishes; 1) that I could use all the profanity in my mind on this page.
      2) that I could meet you face to face.
      3) that some day you have to look down the barrel of a “Bushwhacker”, or whatever the hell it’s called, at close range, look in the eyes of some deranged coward like yourself, take 11 shots into your body and stay alive for a long, long time. You are just litter. You should be taken to the curb tonight to be picked up in the morning with the rest of the garbage. Most of us here understand that you and piszzhead or whatever his name is, are dysfunctional. You both have absolutely no capacity to learn anything and apparently can’t or won’t read. The real horror in this country is that there are so many of you. How come your precious NRA took down their facebook page? Your patron saint LaPelletier, or whatever, is a real hero isn’t he? I’ve got to stop pressing the “load more comments” button or I’m going to have a f***ing heart-attack.

Thank you archabsurp. That is the best reply I have read all day. I think it hit the nail right on the head. I am tired of hearing these sick owners complain about all the remarks about gun control. 28 innocent people dead because of a sick young man did not know right from wrong. Please go check out Japan’s gun control laws. Or check out Australia and their laws. The type of gun used Friday should be illegal. It should not be allowed in civilian hands.

At one time Japan had a large number of guns in civilian hands. They cracked on the crime committed with guns and made it hard to get a gun. Today guns in private hands is down to a very low number. Those who are interested in Japan, Australia gun laws , they are available if you want to read them. Norway also have very strick gun laws.

If the legislators feel that guns should be allowed in schools, churches, bars. etc, then why should they not be allowed in legislative offices, (political) convention centers, etc?
