Three times as many people are killed in or by automobiles than guns. And there are more alcohol related traffic fatalities than gun deaths. Not that it matters but there are far far more chronic and acute alcohol-attributable deaths according to the CDC.

So why not advocate for control of that which is deadlier – both vehicles and alcohol ??

I did not say that the man on the news selling the guns did not check out his customers…..he is just one trader. Many of them are honest. It is the ones who aren’t I am concerned about! How many of the gun sellers have been penalized? Never hear that on the news. Make the investments free, if that is what you have to do, for private sales. To me the main thing is enforcing laws we all ready have. The other end, those who are mentally unstable, is another subject. We have taken away the therapy for many of those people and they are now just offered medication….no one is working on the problem!

Of course there are laws being enforced at some gun shows! Some of the criminals who have killed have been seen and photographed at gun shows. Do you think they are just there to look? I agree that the laws are there….like everything else…it is the enforcement of those laws! The laws do not do any good if they are not enforced. I agree with Dominick except laws are no good without enforcement.

Despite agreeing with your points above, I doubt they really have anything to do with these one off wackos wheeling a semi-automatic weapon at innocent people and more recently kids.

I’ve never understood the almost revered attitude so many Americans have towards the possession of guns. They have a singular purpose: to kill and kill efficiently! Why do we harbor this attitude? Just because the Bill of Rights guarantees it so? If the context of the 2nd amendment has anything to do with understanding why it’s there (and I happen to believe it does), then why is, ‘ a well formed militia’ even mentioned and almost always left off when quoted? Because that’s the context of why the founders included it. There was no organized military at the time, and countrymen were often called upon to form a militia and fight. Hence the reasons for guns. There were more often used for hunting and providing for your family. Does anyone really believe that our guns today stand any chance against a tyrannical government uprising? You think your AR-15 is going to protect you against a Stinger Missile, or RPG? Who are you kidding? It won’t matter. If we ever get to that point, life as we know will cease to exist. We will already be imploding in on ourselves.

There has not even been 1 school shooting every year, so why do you say it is out of control? There are about 9,000 firearms murders every year, so these 2o or so school deaths are insignificant, regardless of how tragic they are.
If you are worried about firearm murders, then worry about pistols and shotguns, because they are used thousands of times more often to kill.

Constance Wilds, you are wrong because there is no such thing as an assault weapon type. Almost any weapons can be used as or modified for assault use. Shotguns and pistols actually are far more deadly. There is no way to ban that made up category effectively, and those proposing the bans know it. Actually they want to ban all private firearms, and that can’t be allowed. The US is supposed to have a citizen soldier army, where there is no standing military elite.

bchrista, you are totally wrong. Firearms prevent millions of rapes, robberies, and murders every single year. Police are never going to be able to protect anyone. Their response time is often over a half hour. And a dog is not going to help protect your car or if you break down in a rough neighborhood.

No you are wrong. Background checks cost $20 and are very difficult to do unless you are a licensed dealer. So background checks don’t make any sense until they are free and anyone can do them.

There are no laws not being enforced at gun show. The guy selling all those new weapons did a background check on every single one of them. The only people who can sell without a background check are individuals who want to sell an old used firearm to a private person. And until background checks are free, you can’t make private people use them for a private sale of used weapons.
