Actually, when you look at what oil prices are doing, this is the result of the Saudi’s and their allies in the Middle East attempting to make Russia and Iran overextend their financial situation in their efforts to keep Assad in power. If Russia and Iran both withdrew from that situation, you would see the price of oil go back up again.
There’s another aspect to this. By refusing to cut their production in the face of lessening demand, the Saudis are depressing oil prices so as to make the development of alternative energy sources cost non-effective (thus perpetuating global dependence on fossil fuels).
