House GOP Leader Offers Defense Of Deleted Anti-Semitic Tweet

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy is trying to defend a tweet he wrote during last year’s midterms, which was widely condemned for perpetuating an anti-Semitic stereotype.

McCarthy’s tweet accused George Soros, Michael Bloomberg, and Tom Steyer of trying to “BUY this election!” Soros and Bloomberg are both Jewish. (Steyer, whose father was Jewish, is often misidentified in the media as Jewish.)

McCarthy’s defense comes as he has been leading a campaign against Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) for comments she made about the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC), a pro-Israel lobbying group, which some have criticized as also anti-Semitic.

No Republican Sponsors For New Gun Safety Bill

Democrats are ready to use their new majority in the House of Representatives to take action on gun safety legislation in order to make schools, theaters, halls of worship, and everywhere else a little bit safer.

But not a single Republican is willing to support legislation banning high-capacity magazines like those used in the deadly 2017 Las Vegas massacre that killed 58 people and injured hundreds.

On Tuesday, Rep. Ted Deutch (D-FL) and Sen. Bob Menendez (D-NJ) reintroduced the Keep Americans Safe Act, which would ban any magazine with more than 10 bullets. Be Afraid! GOP Screams Green New Deal Will Ban Ice Cream

No, the Green New Deal will not ban ice cream, cheeseburgers, milkshakes, cars or air travel — as Republicans have ludicrously claimed over the past few days.
