The mistake I think the author makes is in wrongly assuming that just because the current crop of hate-filled, under-educated, racist, torch-carrying rubes call themselves "conservatives", they are, in fact, "Conservatives."

They ain't. William F. Buckley was the arch-type Conservative. The current GOP leadership and followers are an entirely different group who appropriated the "conservative" badge in the same way that "National Socialism" was appropriated by the Austrian paper-hanger in the 1930's.

Then and now, a convenient and outwardly innocent title is used as a shield to hide the actual intent and rationale of the anti-social rabble that will always be a part of any society.

Are they missing a chromosome or two? Of course they are. And they are only still with us as a result of being part of a species that has learned to side-track the usual Darwinian result of being anti-social. Any other species would have driven them out and into extinction long ago.

This guy has written a book on facts that we all have known for years. I can remember wondering if Rick Perry had been able to remember all of those departments in the government which he planned to close if elected, what would he have done with all those unemployed, hawkish, conservatives from states like Eric Cantor's Virginia who are sucking off the very Federal government they so ardently rail against? No doubt he would have taken his script from Dickens' Ebenezer Scrooge who was in fact a Republican. "Are there no work houses, no prison?."

AS A DEMOCRAT, THIS IS HOW I FEEL....

"I know of democrats and especially those on the far left who are disappointed. Do they hate him? No. In many cases people heard what they wanted to hear. They assumed that he'd end the involvement of American troops in Iraq and Afghanistan. They thought that all American soldiers would be home by now. They thought Obama would raise taxes on the "wealthy" and that he'd have more of an impact on the Bush economy than he has had. They thought he would stop any attempt to erode SS or Medicare or Medicaid. Instead he has said that entitlement programs are on the table. He abandoned the "public option" in favor of the mandate, in an attempt to compromise with the republicans. He walked away from letting the Bush tax cuts expire in a another compromise with the republicans so that he could get an extension to unemployement benefits. Many felt he should have been more confrontational and let the republicans attempt to defend their stands, instead Obama gave them a fig leaf to hide behind.

Many democrats, all across the middle and left, felt that they deserved a president who would fight. A guy who would do battle over the domestic agenda that they had voted for...

"It wasn't a case of people suddenly deciding that the republcans are correct. It also isn't the case that your characterization is widely held among people I've talked to....finding a handful of people who write blogs or online articles or even people who write for Newsweek that agree with you is not indicative of any hatred of Obama....and certainly not the opinion that he is a clown. "

What is the point about "free market" health care choices if you can't afford any of them?
What's the connection between a good defense and social programs? Methinks we are trying to muddy the waters here.
I wonder who caused the economic disaster in the first place -- any idea?
Finally the good old new party line "throw them all out" Then nobody will know anything about the new members bum rushed in by Republican Super Pacs.

HOW CONSERVATIVES DESTROYED AMERICA
Ruined our great Savings and Loan Industry
Closed Fairness Doctrine that has allowed Mush Dimbaugh types on our public airwaves
Closed Revenue Sharing
Since 1980, initiated our involvement in 10 foreign conflicts
Repealed Glass Steagall—took deposits in 7000 banks and put 80% in (10) Too Big To Fail
Modernization of Commodities Market—from Investment to Casino Derivative Of America
2 very dumb invasions of two of most poor -most unarmed nations on earth=OIL OIL OIL
Ruined our International Reputation as a Do Good Christian nation to Big Bully Devil.
Stood by as Freak Marketeers ruined our Housing Industry.
Stood by as Casino Derivative of America ruined the World Financial Industry.
Impeached a Great President for petty political gains that created long term animosity between two parties.
Attempted to destroy Safety Nets that make America great middle class
Implemented Tax Codes that permitted redistribution of Wealth to top (10%) who now own (73%) of all Net Wealth and (83%) of all Financial Wealth and take home (50%) of all individual income.
Today, they have taken America to ranking in oecd nations as (# 2) as Least Taxed---(# 2) as least taxed corporations and horror horror (# 4) on Inequality from bottom 5 in 1980.
Since 1980, their Spend & Borrow policies are, mainly, responsible for adding 14,000 Billion to a 1000 Billion debt
Fought the great GI Bill.
Fought the WWII Draft
Installed strict laws which created 57 % of prison inmates on Marijuana use charges which make us lead the world in prison population.
Refuse to control the drug Beer.
There are many many more baddies.
CONCLUSION:::: WANT TO SEE END OF AN EMPIRE YIELD CONTROL TO
REPUBLICAN CONSERVATIVES AS WAS DONE IN 2001-2002-2003-2004-2005-2006.
SIX OF WORST YEARS IN OUR HISTORY. IMAGINE IF THEY HAD 12 YEARS???

As nearly as I can tell, Rick Santorum and Newt Gingrich just proved that evangelical social conservatives are a minority within the minority. Given the routings of evangelicals whose primary focus is Christian concern for the poor and the planet they believe God made for us. The Michele Bachmanns may soon be a minority within a minority within a minority.

The problem is that their I'm-on-a-mission-from-God dedication to promoting their views gives them an outsized footprint at the polls and in influencing politicians. What we on the left have to avoid is matching their devotion to dogmatic purity and automatic denial of anything that deviates from their world view.

Yes, they're an annoyance and often a hindrance to progress. But, natural selection is already taking care of the problem. They eat their own. In the last half dozen years, they've driven out John Warner, George Voinovich, Mike Castle and Olympia Snowe. They're working dilligently to hasten their descent into a third iteration minority.

A little update on the National Rifle Assocations POSTER BOY TED NUGENT.
First I want to make this perfectly clear. I'm a Vietnam Veteran who VOLUTARILY enlisted in the Marine Corp and VOLUNTEERED to go to Vietnam. I served in 68 & 69.
I am totally disabled with PTSD which is no joking matter. I live with it still.
TED NUGENT bragged about how he got out of the draft back when he did his disgusting deed. For a week prior to reporting in he wore the same pair of pants. He didn't use the bathroom in a normal manner, instead he urinated and defecated in his pants then went in to report. They declared him unfit for service. What a FILTHY COWARD. Yet he bragged he would shoot all the hippies.
Once again I stress, he is the poster boy for the NRA and as far as that goes for the GOP along with Rush Limbaugh who s**** himself too. Also, Mitt Romney said it was an interesting time meeting Ted. Mitt said nothing about Ted Nugents threat to Obama's life.
