How does an Influence Peddler and Political Hack; gain access to any Politician’s ear? Yet, today, that’s what Norquist does. The Guy never held Office; and is part-and-parcel of what is wrong with Congress. Setting Term Limits, would greatly reduce his influence. Isn’t he the Guy that Brokers the deals between Crony Congressionals; and their Creepy-Greedy, Special Interests? This is the Guy the GOP signed on with – – dumping Radio Talk Show Host, Rush Dumbaugh, as the Party’s Leader. In my view, his, “Pledge;” that the GOP signed on to, is, “Treasonous!” When you try to undermine and obstruct the Work of the U.S., Congress – – what else can you call it! Surprised the Mainstream Republican Herd, bought in, to the, Pledge.”

The politician’s ultimate goal is to perpetuate himself. This means to stay in office.

With this goal then it is important to trawl for campaign funds. This is how influence is gotten. You gain influence by contributing the re-election of the politician.

There are laws governing funds distributed to the presidential elections but not at the lower level. There are many restrictions to the funds so this year both candidates declined those funds. This has resulted in the most costly presidential campaign on both sides.

In NYC term limits have turned into a farce with a mayor who manipulated the city council to exempt him from them to run for a 3rd term.

I see nothing being achieved with term limits on the national level since all it takes is for Congress to change the law whenever it wants. The only way that term limits is going to be really achieved is to have a Constitute Admendment and we know the chances of that happening.

One doesn’t care what the Politicians want. Our Founders never intended for members of Congress to be, “Career,” Politicians. In fact, they warned us about that concern. Let me call your attention to a fairly recent Book written by, Tom Coburn, Senator from Oklahoma: ” The, “DEBT BOMB!” Republican Senator Coburn indicates that, “Careerism,” IS THE PROBLEM in Washington. Ideological differences are a Ruse! Tom says, deal with the problem of Careerism, and the Debt Problem can be solved in two days! Can’t have a Democratic Government; when the Rich and Powerful bribe Congress, in exchange for Campaign Contributions. Why? We cannot afford the $100 Billion in Corporate Subsidies and Earmarks that are extended every year. That kind of Welfare for Rich Corporations; makes the attack on Social Welfare Safety Nets, seem small, in comparison.

So, we do Term Limits by Constitutional Amendment. Makes sense! With that done; Coburn says we must strictly limit – – with heavy penalties – – outside Contributions from the like’s of Rowe’s Dark Money Cartels. Money cannot be permitted to determine the outcome of an Election.

Third; it works for the Aussies, and Western Europe; Limit the Campaign Season to just 90 days before an Election. We cannot have Congress out fund-raising, during half the time of their entire term of office. They need to get back and focus on the People’s Work; which neither Party seems much interested in doing. Your final point is a good one: we cannot afford to spend $2 Billion Dollars on a Campaign. Nor can the Nation put up with the total incivility of the process, as people choose up sides; and, dig in! The hate, rudeness, and unkind comments, are not a path to; getting along; and, promoting unity in a Country that seems to be coming apart at it’s seams.

I would like to make some small corrections to your post, truther4u. If you closely examine the House of Representatives you shall quickly see that a Representative starts begging for contributions and running for the next election the minute he wins an election (even before he takes office) so the majority of Representatives spend ALL of their time in office begging and politicking. The majority of bills are written by a combination of lobbyists and staff members with the Representative depending upon said staff & lobbyists to tell him/her how to vote. The Senators do have a period of time when they COULD do their job but they also tend to depend upon staff and lobbyists since they are the experts at nuts & bolts while the elected person (Senator or Representative) is merely an expert at politicking.

          • truther4u

Thanks for the detail and clarity on the Process. I couldn’t agree more, with you.

Now, what can be done about it – – if anything?

          • ralphkr

I fear that there is no absolute cure for politicians relying upon staff (not bad itself) and lobbyists (can be disastrous) as that is the nature of all Democratic Republics.

  • truther4u

Fat always Floats! So, don’t count the evil-weasel out, just yet.

  • ARepublicanNorthlandGrad

Would he float in the toliet? Isn’t he the one that said Obama called Romney a “poopey head”?

  • JohnRNC

Norquist tried to re-create the kind of unified front that propelled Newt Gingrich to Speaker of the House in 1994 (the so-called “Contract with America”). That exercise eventually produced a balanced budget and budget surpluses BUT not without compromise on both sides. This crop of “Pledges” has not served anyone’s interests and should be abandoned.

If the politicians don’t have the backbone to stand up to a bullying coward like Norquist, then the voters should put them all out on the street in 2014.

  • We can flush him out of our system on 1 Jan. 2013 Him and turd bottom can both just disappear down the drain.

  • I part of ” those people” the WMWW club (White MidWestern Women) who can’t stand Grover Norquist because he is & always will be a biggoted hate leader who can’t see past his big white nose. It is people like those that are going to be the doom of the Republician Party. I vote for TERM LIMITS! lET’S KICK THE IDEOTS OUT!

Ohhhh my…. Klempy…. you are too stupid for words. Let’s examine the musings of a fool. Here’s what you typed:

The worst thing in the world you can do is to write that someone else is an idiot, and misspell it. You do understand at least this bit of irony, don't you Klempy? The same goes for the moron who "liked" your post.

      Have a nice day!

"Better to remian silent and be thought a fool than to speak and remove all doubt." – Abraham Lincoln, but others have attributed elsewhere. I like Lincoln though, so he gets the credit.

  • jarheadgene

Some one needs to SMACK that loud mouth lobbyist down. Grover Norquist go away, you are no longer wanted, and any GOP candidate that does want to deal with you, NEEDS TO GO!

And now…. the REAL Cartoon of the Day!

    Have a nice day!

“You can only confiscate the wealth that exists at a given moment. You cannot confiscate future wealth — and that future wealth is less likely to be produced when people see that it is going to be confiscated.” – Thomas Sowell

It just confirms that austerity measures don’t work.

      • ObozoMustGo

et… please tell me what the alternative is. I am interested to hear your ideas.

        Have a nice day!

“You cannot make the poor man rich by making the rich man poor.” – Winston Churchill

        • Yappy2

Who says you have to make the rich man poor in order to help the poor man have a fair chance of at least having the necessary things of life, like food, a decent place to live, education and access to healthcare?

          • TVulgaris

Well, that’s what most of the rich say. They always say that without the slightest shred of evidence to support that statement, since it’s incorrect. But constraint by evidence and argument by supporting fact are superfluous if one is rich. QED, they would say.

          • ObozoMustGo

Yappy… Who pays for all that free stuff?

            Have a nice day!

“Socialism is a philosophy of failure,
the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy,
its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery..”
            — Winston Churchill

          • We’re not asking the rich to support us, dumb ass.. How they made their riches and what they do with it is their b’ness. What we demand is to contribute toward taxes like the rest of America does. Don’t hide you’re profits.. PAY YOU’RE TAXES!!.. Don’t play in gray areas and loop holes.. BE A CONTRIBUTOR TO THIS NATION. Jobs aren’t contributing, jobs are there to make the rich wealthier, the worker still has to (gladly) pay taxes.. If the elite paid their taxes like all of middle America then we would stop insisting. But you being at least one of they’re trolls, I’m certain you will find a way to make them the victim.

“Capitalism’s concept of competitive man who seeks only to maximize wealth and power, who subjects himself to market relationships, to exploitation and external authority, is anti-human and intolerable in the deepest sense”
            Noam Chomsky

          • ObozoMustGo

            Turdy… Several points:

            1) You are obviously one of those people who thinks it’s acceptable to be entitled to benefits paid for by the labor of your neighbor. I’m willing to bet you’re net taker from the system.

            2) You have no idea what you are talking about when it comes to who pays what taxes. You can access the IRS income tax data yourself, but the facts will not comport with your emotional committment to the false notions of class envy. This is why you choose to live ignorant. Here is the data that is available from 2009. Hat tip National Tax Payers Union: link is ntu(dot)org/tax-basics/who-pays-income-taxes(dot)html. Replace the (dot) with a period.

            Percentiles Ranked by AGI
            AGI Threshold on Percentiles
Percentage of Total Federal Personal Income Tax Paid

            Top 1% $343,927 36.73

            Top 5% $154,643 58.66

            Top 10% $112,124 70.47

            Top 25% $66,193 87.30

            Top 50% $32,396 97.75

            Bottom 50% <$32,396 2.25

Note: AGI is Adjusted Gross Income
            Source: Internal Revenue Service

So you see. The facts belie your mistaken emotion. The top 10% pay 70% of ALL taxes. How exactly is it fair that a small minority of us must pay the vast majority of taxes? It's not. We should all pay exactly the same rate. No deductions, no loopholes. Only when we are all treated fairly under the law will we actually have a fair taxation system.

            3) What kind of moron says that "jobs aren't contributing"? Really! What kind of idiot thinks like that? So all the people that work at jobs are not earning a living and paying for things they need and want in their lives? Dude, you are dumb as a box of rocks!!!

            4) And the kicker….. anyone that quotes Noam Chomsky is flat out nothing short of a leftist freak. Your mind is diseased with jealousy and envy, the hallmark emotions where all socialist feelings and thinking…. errr…. confusion begin.

Have nice and oblivious day, dope!

"The difference between being stupid and being a fool: A stupid person at least has an idea about their own inadequacies. The fool is oblivious to them, and is more inclined to believe their own fantasies and lies as truth." – ObozoMustGo

  • Keep on ignoring posters you know who.

  • The Dems and decent Republicans should take their tails out from between their legs and start to bark back at the Radical Righties and Tea Party. Take this obstructionist message of the Radical Righties right to the public and tell them what the consequences will be if they follow Norquist agenda (McConnell, Ryan, Bachman etc.). We’ll have a Third World country for sure. It’s almost that now with 2% controlling most of the nation’s wealth.

  • No, he’s a turd and will sink to the bottom of the cesspool along with his GOP friends.

  • Katstiles

Can I get crude here? When will States stop electing Senators and Congressmen that go to DC and and promptly give Grover a BJ?

  • Willnieto57

It should have been a toilet instead. Time to flush!
