CINCINNATI (Reuters) – President-elect Donald Trump kicked off his post-election “thank you tour” on Thursday by railing against globalization, promising the return of manufacturing jobs to American workers, and vowing to shut U.S. borders to some Middle East migrants.

Speaking in an arena that was about three-quarters full, Trump rallied the crowd by repeatedly attacking the “extremely dishonest” media and invoking the populist message that resonated with millions of voters.

“There is no global anthem, no global currency, no certificate of global citizenship. We pledge allegiance to one flag and that flag is the American flag,” Trump said.

“From now on it’s going to be America first, okay?” Trump said as he stressed job-creation spurred by trade deals he intends to renegotiate, including the North American Free Trade Agreement.

The New York real estate magnate also announced that he would nominate Marine General James Mattis – calling him “Mad Dog Mattis” – to be his secretary of defense.

Noting an attack on the Ohio State University campus in Columbus earlier this week by a Somali immigrant, Trump said such threats against Americans were “created by our very, very stupid politicians; refugee programs.”

In order to keep the United States safe from further attacks, Trump said he will suspend immigration “from regions where it cannot be safely processed,” including some countries in the Middle East.

“People are pouring in from regions of the Middle East. We have no idea who they are, where they come from, what they’re thinking and we’re going to stop that dead, cold flat,” Trump said.

In the past, Trump also has said he would stop the entry of all Muslims into the United States.

In a Twitter message earlier on Thursday, Trump said: “ISIS is taking credit for the terrible stabbing attack at Ohio State University by a Somali refugee who should not have been in our country.”

The Council on American-Islamic Relations accused Trump of seeking to exploit the “tragic situation in Ohio.”

SAVING JOBS

Trump’s remarks came at the end of a day in which he also traveled to neighboring Indiana to celebrate a decision by the Carrier Corp., an air conditioner maker, to keep about 1,000 jobs in the United States rather than move them to Mexico.

That decision came after Trump, during the long presidential campaign, publicly called on the company to retain the jobs in Indianapolis and threatened to punish American companies that move operations abroad with stiff import tariffs.

The company, which is owned by United Technologies (UTX.N), still intends to move 1,300 other jobs from Indiana to Mexico.

In the run-up to his Jan. 20 swearing in as president, Trump is expected to tour cities in swing states, like Ohio, that contributed to his shocking election victory on Nov. 8.

During a nearly hour-long speech in this southwestern Ohio city, Trump promised to deliver new tax cuts to the middle-class, roll back federal regulations that he said hurt companies and build a wall along the southwestern border with Mexico.

While he promised in the speech to talk about the “action plan” that would guide the beginning of his administration, Trump did not provide new details on policies he has been pushing since announcing his White House run in 2015.

In mocking detractors who did not think he could burst through the “blue wall” of states that have typically voted for Democrats, Trump proclaimed to roaring cheers, “We didn’t break it, we shattered that sucker.”

Over the past few weeks, Trump has mainly been holed up in the Trump Tower in New York City, weighing who to name to top jobs in his incoming administration.

He has interviewed several candidates for secretary of state, including the 2012 Republican presidential nominee, Mitt Romney, who attacked Trump throughout the 2016 campaigns but lately has spoken glowingly of the president-elect.

On Wednesday, Trump said he would nominate former Goldman Sachs banker Steven Mnuchin to lead the Treasury Department. Trump named Wilbur Ross, a billionaire known for his investments in distressed industries, as his nominee for commerce secretary.

In an interview with Fox News, Trump said he has whittled a list of potential Supreme Court nominees down to “probably three or four” and that an announcement would be made soon.

A seat on the nine-member Supreme Court has been vacant since last February, when Justice Antonin Scalia died and the Republican-controlled Senate refused to consider President Barack Obama’s choice of Merrick Garland.

Trump stirred controversy in recent days by suggesting that those who protest the United States by burning the American flag should possibly lose their citizenship or serve a jail sentence.

While flag burning is protected under the U.S. Constitution, according to a Supreme Court ruling, Trump nevertheless returned to the issue again on Thursday, telling his audience in Cincinnati: “If people burn the American flag, there should be consequences.”

27 Responses to Donald Trump Congratulates Himself During ‘Thank You’ Tour

  1. No one on the face of the earth praises himself or herself as much as Trump does, and having him elected offers ample opportunity to study up close a man who epitomizes the very opposite of what a saintly person should be like. Strangely, this polar opposite in character is a real-life expression of the imagery recounted in the Old Testament about Satan being cast out of habit. Trump’s ascendancy has caused me and others to see the wider implication of the casting out of Satan, and another Biblical quote about “pride goeth before destruction”.
Concerning the casting out of Satan, it should be clear to the discerning and rational-minded that this is a metaphor, because how can you be cast out in a physical sense?
So, one alternative explanation is that in the Spiritual Realms of the Creator(referred to as “God” in English, “Allah” in Arabic, and “Yahweh” in Hebrew) is a reference to ego, materialism, and immorality having no place in the presence of “God”, that the qualities of ego, debasement, lechery, greed, and the like are incompatible with spiritual qualities which have their source with this entity called “God”. Which would make people such as Trump the human equivalent of “Satan”, the metaphor for immorality/amorality.
When we consider the verse regarding pride going before destruction, this is a portent of what happens to egomaniacs, narcissists, and the like eventually headed for a catastrophe to some degree or another, either in this life and/or the life to come.

There have been Hitlers, Stalins, Nixons, and the like throughout history, but neither went so far as to be so infatuated with himself like Trump has. Trump is truly one grand anomaly unlike anyone who has ever walked the surface of the planet—PERIOD!!

Historians should take careful note of this man’s every tweet, rant, and all the visual cues that Trump has so far expressed, and insure that our posterity has a clear unbiased record of the egomaniac we had to endure, assuming that there is still a planet left with written records undamaged.

    • Very well said Aaron. As a Christian I’m appalled at the behavior of this person set to become the 45th President of the United States ???????? The nightmare vision he saw of America under President Obama was garbage. Unfortunately now that nightmare vision he described will become our reality. We live in dangerous times & he’s either too naive or too stupid to realize that his actions as President will have real consequences. Our only hope is if there truly was election fraud the recounts now underway in Wisconsin will show that we may be dealing with an election stolen to put him in the WhiteHouse. His efforts to sue to stop the recounts already makes me very suspicious. If he has nothing to hide try to stop the recounts ?

      • I agree…..if he’s SO sure that he won these states fair and square, you’d think he’d be fine with the recount. Apparently, deep down, he’s afraid that he’s going to have the presidency snatched away from him and he’ll be put back in his mediocre life!

      • Election fraud? Stop it! With a landslide such as this there is no debate. You and most people on this board MUST live in one of these counties.

There are 3,141 counties in the United States.
        Trump won 3,084 of them.
        Clinton won 57.

There are 62 counties in New York State.
        Trump won 46 of them.
        Clinton won 16.
Clinton won the popular vote by approx. 1.5 million votes.

In the 5 counties that encompass NYC, (Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Richmond & Queens) Clinton received well over 2 million more votes than Trump. (Clinton won 4 of these counties, Trump won Richmond)
Therefore these 5 counties alone, more than accounted for Clinton winning the popular vote of the entire country.

These 5 counties comprise 319 square miles.
The United States is comprised of 3, 797,000 square miles.

When you have a country that encompasses almost 4 million square miles of territory, it would be ludicrous to even suggest that the vote of those that encompass a mere 319 square miles should dictate the outcome of a national election.
And, this is why our forefathers created the Electoral College.

        • Okaaaaaay you have a very interesting definition of what constitutes a landslide. To me a landslide is like 1984 when Reagan pretty much wiped the floor with Mondale who won only 2 states. With Trump losing the popular vote by a huge margin 2.5 million & winning Michigan by a mere 10,000 votes is not a landslide it’s called a squeaker. He has no mandate by any means & has been gifted a strong economy with low unemployment. Do you honestly think that 4 years from now assuming he’s not impeached first that this nation will be as strong ? The Electoral College was created to keep out people like Trump who doesn’t know what he’s doing. Taking calls from Taiwans President was a definite breach of conduct & it’s only going to get worse. So no I will not stop talking about Election Fraud until we see the outcome of the recounts underway

          • It could be construed as an Electoral landslide given the polls and pundits view of what was to come. It’s a waste of time and money.

You should appreciate the breaking of protocol and having a conversation with a trading partner such as Taiwan. Do you not ever question why it would be considered taboo? It’s time we began showing China that we will talk to who we want when we wish to do so.

          • So you’re ok with Trump starting an international skirmish with China no less before he’s even sworn in ? Seriously? That is a serious breach of conduct & is considered to be very ill mannered. As to what constitutes a landslide in your book is just splitting hairs. Even if you go by the EC vote it was no landslide for an election that wasn’t decided until 3am ET the next day. Even now there are serious questions regarding the close outcome in 3 states which is why they’re conducting a recount that could flip to Secretary Clinton. Assuming Trump takes office he’ll be a minority President and there’s no way of getting around the fact that more Americans chose Hillary Clinton over Donald Trump.

    • Well, so far, he’s hired the dregs of society to change all the rules so that he (and they) make even more money for themselves and to hell with the rest of the nation. They are all for themselves and have not a care for the American people!

  2. A thank you tour? Or a watch me watch you thank me tour? And now….I will accept your undying adulation..What an insufferable hambone. Somebody please tell me how this ends… As I haven’t the stomach to watch for myself. It’s like watching reptiles mate.

  3. Trump needs a crowd of adoring fans around him at all times. He needs to hear cheers telling him he is great. Does this bother anyone else as much as it does me? If the media doesn’t praise him with their every word they are evil. Is this because of his large ego or because he needs constant reassurance that he matters.Did his Dad beat him down so much that he must be told he matters by people over and over just to make it through his day.

  4. George Washington was asked if Britain was to become our perpetual enemy. George Washington said, “We need all the friends across the water we can get.”

  5. This isn’t a “thank you for voting for me” trip….this is a trip that he uses to feed his narcissistic me, me, I, I crap! He enjoys the pomp and the crowds of his followers at these rallies. It’s just sad that so many still believe he was telling them the truth….he has NO way of doing most of the things he’s saying he’s going to do…….he knows it, but they don’t. I wonder how long it will take before they find out that he conned them!

  6. One yr ago I finally quit my old job and that decision was a lifechanger for me… I started to work from my house, over a website I found over internet, for a few hours every day, and I profit now much more than i did on my office job… My pay-check for last month was for $9k… The best thing about it is that now i have more free time with my family… http://chilp.it/13548ef
