I cannot speak for states other than North Carolina. However, in the Tar Heel state, we have a virtual monopoly by Blue Cross & Blue Shield. Only Cigna and Coventry appear on the information pages for enrollment in the ACA in North Carolina, alongside BCBS. This monopoly makes ONLY costly policies available to the people of North Carolina. Competition reduces costs to the consumer, and years of preventing competition in NC on the marketing of health insurance products has managed to do two things – it has enriched those government officials who have made this the way of life, and it has made it very difficult for the average North Carolinian to buy affordable health care.
Robert this has been true of many states the big insurance companies have basically agreed not to compete with one another. Thereby ensuring no competition and a captive consumer audience. In essence what the carting cartels have been doing throughout the country no different than the mafia. Substantial campaign contributions made such practices common place.
Our government doesn’t allow the insurance companies to compete between states. If that was allowed, the prices would go down. That was one of the things proposed in the Republican plans that were not allowed out of committed.
Well, why is it not allowed in North Carolina. Now that the ACA has become law, implementation of such a move would enhance the efficacy of the ACA. North Carolina has a Republican governor and both legislative houses are controlled by Republicans, so why don’t the Republicans just do what they say they think is appropriate, and allow open competition among insurers? I find it difficult to believe that a state controlled by the Republican party cannot overcome any impediments to open competition and let the free market do its job.
I think its a federal law not State.
Health insurance, as with pretty much ALL insurance, is regulated, state by state, by individual Insurance Commissions. In NC, the Commissioner is an elected official. Crop insurance is federally regulated, and the feds have control of flood insurance, partially. But health insurance is entirely up to the states. However, with the ACA, federally mandated standards will require insurers to change many policies to meet at least minimum standards. The insurance industry is an excellent example of why the “free market” does not work. So many different products out there, many of which do not even do what they are purported to do. All private insurers have managed to do over the past forty years is enrich themselves and their stockholders.
It is the states that don’t want insurance sold across state lines because they would not be able to regulate companies in other states. The Federal government through interstate commerce could regulate the interstate insurance marketplace but the states do not want to give up their right to regulate the insurance companies in their state. .
So, you know how all your credit cards seem to come out of South Dakota? That’s because, at least before Democrats created the CPFB over the kicking, screaming not actually dead bodies of the Republicans in Congress, South Dakota would let credit card issuers get away with anything. That’s exactly what all the Republicans demanding interstate insurance sales want to do to health insurance.
Very good got a Republican talking point out, but that is not what we’re talking about. There is nothing to stop insurance company from setting up shop within the state they simply have chosen not to make that chose. Why because they would prefer a captive audience they all got together and made this decision. In any other business it is collusion and it’s illegal.
Please find in the below link the pros and cons of cross state insurance sales, make a decision for yourself. For myself I think it would be a good idea as long as they’re are minimum standards set, otherwise it would just be a race to the bottom.
Danziger, a reading of local papers would show where you’re wrong. The phraseology should read: “…and we don’t want NOBODY else to have healthcare.”
And now…. The REAL Cartoon Of The Day!
Obozodon’tcare is a sheet sandwich and everyone, except the most committed believer of Obozo’s bald-faced LIES, knows it now that they are getting a taste. This is why his poll numbers are dropping like a stone. He deserves it. I’m shocked they are as high as they are in the upper 30’s.
Have a nice day!
“If you like your health plan, you can keep it. PERIOD!” – Baroke WhoIsInsane Obozo LYING repeatedly to Americans for 3+ years when he knew beforehand that it was not in the least bit true.
Keep hoping you’ll take your own advice…
Get back on your meds.
I guess you haven’t been watching the more recent numbers, or do you have your Fox news on a constant repeat from three months ago? While there are still some problems with the site, over a million have managed to get on, get registered, and get their new policies, and the number is increasing by thousands every hour.
Ohhhhh Hasty…. not true at all. Not even that incompeten flack Sebelius is claiming that they have a million people signed up. She claimed like 350,000 give or take under oath giving testimony. You’re confusing site visitors with people that actually enroll, which is very small compared to the visitor totals. Mostly curiousity seekers. Besides, the real problem is not enrolling. My kid could make a working website that does that. The real problem is the extremely high error rate in getting enrollments processe with the insurance companies. And they haven’t even tried a full cycle that includes a doctor providing service, logging the service, billing the service, and then getting paid. This is a whole new level of disaster coming down the pipe. Like I said, the website is just the wrapper on a sheet sandwich. Just wait until 10’s of MILLIONS start getting their notices that they are losing their health plans with their employers. Obozo is getting white washed in November and he knows it. This is why he’s out there demagouging absolutely every single issue he can make up in order to fight the tide he knows that is building against him. Mark my words, Hasty. Obozo is in big trouble. He knows it. Most people know it. The only ones that don’t are the remaining few who are still drunk on his cult of personality clutch over you.
Have a nice day!
They haven’t even written the pay part yet. They still don’t know how the money will get to the cash register. Where the millions figures come in, is how many policies will get canceled when health plans are not paid by their employers.
Right on with that one, Fun. I find it interesting how all of these leftist freaks claim to be so compassionate and care for the “poor people” enough to give them more free stuff in healthcare, yet when the reality of MILLIONS of American losing their health insurance plans that they had and that they liked are stacking up, their compassion seems to dry up. Not only does it dry up, they protest with righteous indignation that those people deserve to lose their health plans because they were “not as good as they are supposed to be” so in a sense, you get a collective “flock you” from them. What a bunch of hypocrites and POS’s.

I hope you don’t think that the majority of us on the NM voting your mentally deficient garbage down are actually wasting our time viewing the trash you post!! Because if you do, you’re even more clueless than all of us on the NM believe!!!
You wouldn’t be so pissed off at me if I didn’t do such a good job pointing out how stupid you leftist freaks really are.
Thanks for reading!!!! 🙂
If someone thinks that it’s worth the time, effort and cost for you trolls to post your insanity, they’re even more idiotic than all those corporations and 1%ers who poured millions/billions of dollars into the 2012 election in a wasted effort!! Nothing could be more of a waste than you idiot trolls posting on the NM!!!!
Like the BILLIONS the union thugs spend on DemonRATS every year…. correct? Oh… that’s right…. they are allowed to have political voice, but no one else from the political opposition, right? Hypocrites!!! One and all!!!!!!!!!!!
According to 2 different news networks today, so far only 364,000 have gotten registered and no one knows if they have their new policies or not.
Funny… when the leftist freaks don’t like the message, even when TRUE and spoken by their own dear leaders from their own fetid pie holes, what do they do? They attack the messenger. Classic leftist freak tactics.
You are so right, I have been asked (or ordered) to give court type proof and so on. I have posted articles from liberals and then I hear that can’t be true, even though it was written by their own. Its the old trick of trying to yell louder than anyone to win your point. Never did work and never will.
So, if the ACA is so bad, why did the Republicans in 2009 participate so heavily in devising it? After all, there are many Republican suggestions and proposals that are included in the ACA. And, IF The Republicans are so opposed to the ACA, what do they offer as an alternative, what do they think will provide the American public with the financial relief and security of the ACA?
You are seriously boring. Have you run out of new rants or have you just smoked a little crack and are waiting for the hallucinations to kick in.
It isn’t the people in the South that don’t want the Affordable Medical Act it is their Republican governors, and legislatures and the insurance companies that operate in them. The ugly three wants to keep everyone broke paying for insurance policies that don’t really cover anything or keeping people broke paying medical bills so they don’t have a chance to realize that they and the rest of the Country is being raped by Republican and Tea Party policies. A rape that won’t stop until they are voted out of office or this Country as we know it is destroyed and becomes a Country with only two classes of people the very very rich who have all the rights and the very very poor who have no rights not even voting rights.
