Kind of an incendiary subject line I chose, isn’t it? Well, as long as the Republican candidates for the nomination keep drooling over the prospect of catering to Israel’s wishes by bombing Iran back to the Stone Age, I cannot think of a better analogy to describe their incessant fawning of the Israeli lobby.
Ever since Richard Nixon’s Presidency, every occupier of the Oval Office has bent over backwards to appease the Israeli government, even Jimmy Carter. President Obama is the first Chief Executive of the United States who has repeatedly held the Israeli Government’s feet to the fire concerning the treatment of the people of the Occupied Territories and the illegal settlements that Israel does not officially acknowledge (wink, wink, nudge, nudge).
The fact that Bibi does not get along with President Obama is a good thing. This shows that unlike Ariel Sharon wrapping GWB around his little finger, we actually have a President who is capable of saying NO to everything Israel asks for. Bibi wants our guarantee to cover his butt if he unilaterally decides to bomb Iran. President Obama should tell him that Israel is on its own if Bibi decides on that course of action.
But watch – Mitt, Rick and Newt will be climbing all over each other in claiming their support for Israel with their Ethnic Cleansing and Apartheid practices in the hopes of garnering the Jewish vote (as they have thrown away the non-Cuban Hispanic vote and Black vote).
