‘House of Cards’ Makes T.V. History With Emmy Nod

LOS ANGELES (AFP) – The Netflix political drama “House of Cards” made entertainment history Thursday, becoming the first online-only series ever to be nominated for a major Emmy award.

The FX miniseries “American Horror Story: Asylum” collected 17 nods, the most of any TV show, in the run-up to the 65th annual primetime Emmy awards ceremony in Los Angeles on September 22.

But “House of Cards,” starring Hollywood veteran Kevin Spacey as a shrewed and cunning U.S. congressman, broke fresh Emmy ground, scoring nine nominations including best drama.

Inspired by a BBC series from the early 1990s, “House of Cards” was made exclusively for Netflix, the online movie streaming website, which put all 13 episodes online in February in one fell swoop.

Other nominees for best drama included “Breaking Bad,” “Downton Abbey,” “Game of Thrones,” “Homeland” and “Mad Men” — marking the first time no series from a mainstream U.S. television network has been nominated in the category.

Up for best comedy were “Modern Family,” “The Big Bang Theory,” “Girls,” “Louie,” “Veep” and “30 Rock.”

Not because Trump doesn’t have any responsibility for the attempted coup and attack on the Capitol on January 6, 2021. He does. Sununu thinks that all the insurrectionists “must be held accountable and prosecuted.” Except one: the man he’s voting for in November.

Iran has launched a swarm of missile and drone strikes on Israel from Iranian territory, marking a significant military escalation between the two nations. Israel and Iran have been engaged in a so-called shadow war for decades, with Iranian proxies like Hezbollah rocketing Israel from Lebanon and Syria, and Israel retaliating by launching air strikes on Hezbollah missile sites. Israel has also launched strikes on Iranian targets in other countries, most recently an airstrike on part of the Iranian embassy in Damascus, Syria, which killed several top Iranian “advisers” to its military, including Mohammad Reza Zahedi, a senior officer in Iran’s Quds Force, an espionage and paramilitary arm of Iran’s army.
