Proud to be a Liberal, and proud of the work they do, Yah!!

Liberalism
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Liberalism (from the Latin liberalis)[1] is the belief in the importance of liberty and equal rights.[2] Liberals espouse a wide array of views depending on their understanding of these principles, but generally liberals support ideas such as constitutionalism, liberal democracy, free and fair elections, human rights, capitalism, and freedom of religion.[3][4][5][6][7]
Liberalism first became a powerful force in the Age of Enlightenment, rejecting several foundational assumptions that dominated most earlier theories of government, such as nobility, established religion, absolute monarchy, and the Divine Right of Kings. The early liberal thinker John Locke, who is often credited for the creation of liberalism as a distinct philosophical tradition, employed the concept of natural rights and the social contract to argue that the rule of law should replace absolutism in government, that rulers were subject to the consent of the governed, and that private individuals had a fundamental right to life, liberty, and property.
The revolutionaries in the American Revolution and the French Revolution used liberal philosophy to justify the armed overthrow of tyrannical rule. The nineteenth century saw liberal governments established in nations across Europe, Latin America, and North America. Liberal ideas spread even further in the twentieth century, when liberal democracies triumphed in two world wars and survived major ideological challenges from fascism and communism. Today, liberalism in its many forms remains as a political force to varying degrees of power and influence on all major continents.
A twenty-first century development is an emerging new liberalism that is centred on the concept of timeless freedom (ensuring the freedom of future generations through proactive action taken today).

What Have American Liberals Done for The United States?
What did the Liberals do that was so offensive to the republican Party?
I’ll tell you what they did, Liberals got women the right to vote. Liberals got the African-Americans the right to vote. Liberals created Social Security and lifted millions of elderly people out of poverty. Liberals passed the Civil Rights Act, the Voting Rights Act. Liberals created Medicare. Liberals passed the clean Air Act, the Clean Water Act.
What did conservatives do? They opposed them on every one of those things, every one. So when you try to hurl that label at my feet ”Liberals” as if it were something to be ashamed of, something dirty, something to run away from, it won’t work, because I will pick up that label and I will wear it as a badge of honor.
While the new healthcare law may not be perfect it has many good things. I paid $700 a month for health insurance after my husband died until I was eligible for Medicare. Any pre-existing onditions were not covered and the deductibles and co-pays were so high the insurance company hardly ever paid and they raised the premiums every 6 months. The healthcare law means insurance companies can't exclude pre-existing conditions and your son or daughter still living at home can be covered under your policy until they are 26. Medicare and veterans healthcare are run by the government and they do an excellent job. Everybody should be able to get healthcare at an affordable price and people with insurance end up paying for those without insurance since we are charged more at the hospitals and doctors office. Most states mandate you have to have car insurance if you want to have a car so why is it wrong to mandate that everyone should have health insurance.

President Obama get alot of flac, for doing what needs to be done to get this country of ours back on track. Yet, the flac almost always comes from the Republicans, who seem to forget what the previous Republicans have done. For example Regan star wars project that never got done. Where did he get the funds for this star wars? He was the first to use the Interest from Social Security. That cost the Social Securities problems about having enough money. Clinton paid the National Debt and some of the Social Security and left office with a surplus. Next Republican President Bush the younger one goes against the Generals recommendations and puts us in war in Irac and Afganistan used all the surplus that Clinton left and borrowed more money to finance the war.

Those Republican Governors who turned their states around should be thanking President Obama for the billions he wasted saving their states from collapse. I especially liked Governor Daniels of Indiana spouting off in his answer to the State of the Union speech that Obama "borrowed and blew" all the money in the Obama Recovery Act while ignoring the fact that the $2 Billion he got from the Recovery Act was all that saved Indiana from going down the drain and also ignoring the fact that the reason Obama had to borrow the money was because Bush had thrown away Clinton's surplus.

As an immigrant I enlisted in the US Air Force for the Korean War and have used the VA Hospital since my discharge in 1953. The care has been exemplary and I cannot say enough about the quality of treatment. The staff are respectful of the service Vets gave for their country and I've never heard any complaints from the guys in the waiting room.
I feel very proud to be a member of such company and very fortunate to have the VA taking care of me.

In Canada, the radioactive implants that killed my prostate cancer cost me twenty-six senior's subway tickets ($1.60 each). That's 25 for my daily radiation, five days a week for five weeks, plus one on the day of the implants. Total cost: $41.60. In Arizona, it would have cost $43,000. I priced it out. So don't tell me the Canadian single-payer health care system doesn't work. I'm living proof that it does.

A said day of affairs when, the most powerful country in the world cannot provide affordable health care to all Americans. I am a disable Vietnam Veteran with the luxury of having veteran health care as my sole provider, I rank the system a 90 plus. During the 1980's and 1990's I watch my personal health care plan increase by 10% to 20% annualy, until no longer affordable. To insinuate any government run program is inefficient, implies you have both hands in the cookie jar, removing more than one cookie. I will pray for you.

Isn't it ridiculous that the United States spent $8,402 on health care per each and every man, woman, and child in the country in 2010 and there were still millions with no access to health care. Those detractors of civilized health care claim that it shall bankrupt the US even though absolutely no civilized nation with universal health care comes close to spending what the US spends per person and their life expectancy is longer than ours. The last figures I have seen is that the most expensive health care is in Switzerland (about 75 per cent of what the US pays per capita) and that is probably because their system is run by insurance companies. It is especially striking when you consider that the average per capita cost of health care in civilized industrialized countries is approximately half of what our extremely flawed system is costing the US citizen.

Mr. Ackermann, you denigrate government run health care such as VA but people who currently have VA health benefits are deathly afraid that they shall lose their superior care and those on Medicare are also fighting to retain that system. The really funny thing is that because they have drunk the TEA Party Kool-Aide many of those same people also state that they are adamantly against government run health care systems while completely ignoring the fact that their favored systems are definitely government run health care system.
