Obama Urges Congress To Reach Consensus On Deficit

November 14th, 2011 1:09 pm Associated Press

HONOLULU (AP) — Sounding increasingly frustrated as a deadline for action approaches, President Barack Obama accused lawmakers on a congressional supercommittee of refusing to budge off their rigid positions and find a solution to the country’s yawning deficit.

And with Republicans unwilling to cooperate on his jobs bill, Obama said it might take a new Congress to get his jobs package done.

It is about time he started being firm and direct. Up to now he has tried to be a nice guy, but it hasn’t worked. Get tough and pointed.

It is far past time the Republican Leadership “QUIT” their attitude of “Just say NO”
Americans need to feed their family and get their houses back..that means jobs. The Economists nationwide said his bill would put 1.9 million back to work. Are they just going to hurt the poor and middle class until the election to blame Obama? Jerks, all.

Congress may find that their new slogan of “Nothing ’til November” may come with a twist – they may find that the people got tired of having nothing and their doing nothing while they waited for November.

He tried to keep his promise of a bi-partisan administration, but Republicans believe that bi-partisan means both parties do what Republicans want. Unfortunately it’s time to forget bi-partisan and go for what’s needed. People need jobs and the country needs money.

Is there anyone in congress, other than Bernie Sanders, that actually cares about the American worker? What is the actual goal of this so called super committee? I thought it was to reduce the deficit, but how can that be when the Republicans are pushing to reduce the highest tax bracket from 35% to 28%? If we are honestly going to reduce the deficit then we shouldn’t reduce any revenues.

Why is it class warfare whenever there is a protest or objection to give the wealthy tax cuts, but it’s not class warfare to reduce benefits for the needy? And they say this is a Christian nation?

Eliminating the Bush tax cuts would substantially reduce the deficit, and if congress could find the courage to renegotiate our job killing trade policies we would add jobs/revenue.

One could use an analogy, likening the state of our economy to a high stakes poker game.

Our government, Uncle Sam, used to own the “house”. Sam made all the rules in his establishment. Everyone was welcome as long as they played by the rules. Over time, Sam has steadily lost control of his house as the “chip stacks” of “players” at the “table” grew. You know, the players like Wall Street, big oil, and that big ol’ health care/insurance dude over there in the corner…

…Now, Sam has been reduced to merely another player at the table. Sam is our (the 99%’s) only real representative at the table. The problem here is that these other players have gotten real good at this game and at getting into Sam’s head. They’ve got Sam second guessing himself. Sam’s chip stack is getting smaller.

And now, even though Sam is the only true representative of “the 99%” at the table, many among us still root for the other players and against Sam. The last election saw many elections won on the mantra ‘LESS GOVERNMENT’. Wouldn’t a better slogan be ‘SMARTER GOVERNMENT’. If more of us would get behind Sam, our chip stack may begin to grow again and Sam could once again gain control of his house. 99% of us would be better off, even those who don’t realize it.

yes Mr president continue to push congress to pass your job bill. however i believe his most effective means would be bypassing congress and using his executive power to push federal agencies to do more for job creation. His number one push should be job and he can create demand thru agencies, by ordering them to spend their funds on prject that like school repairs. The president should hold the line on any spending cuts. spending cuts in this economy means jobs and jobs means demand. we need to focus on creating demand in every aspect of the econony.

Since the Republican Debates have become such a shambles, it is time for the Republicans to select the man behind the curtain who is telling all of of the candidates how to vote. Elect Grover Norquist for President!

out here in the private sector we have to create to make a dollar. We don’t have to create a tax to get paid. We wish we could just tax the govt workers just like the govt taxes the private sector workers. Then, you could feel some of what the private sector feels. If the govt keeps taxing private business with regulations that make being in business too unprofitable and difficult, then, private business will close and go where business is good, which is NOT IN HIGH TAXED OR REGULATED STATES.

In a recent post on my wordpress blog, I mentioned how the Clinton administration made it their priority to place the economy & jobs as 1 & 2 on the agenda. Running into a buzz saw following the 1994 mid-terms, in which Republicans gained a vindictive majority, showed just how determined Conservatives were in working to halt an “in-process” recovery. The difference then, was that President Clinton already KNEW what was the best remedy for economic recovery. Engaging Conservatives in relentless intellectual warfare, he overwhelmed them w/his depth of knowledge & commitment to getting the economy solvent & people working. By eliminating the Reagan era tax cuts, the problem of both the deficit AND revenue was resolved instantaneously! As “Green” energy technologies have even greater potential than the budding communications technology boom of the mid-late 1990′s, disconnecting another tax-cut “obstacle” to this current economic recovery, should not even be up for discussion. What would be of even greater benefit would be to eliminate Republicans from the debate altogether, by President Obama declaring a verdict, via an executive order. The worst that could happen? His decision would prove a success!

To my adopted God Son. I realize that the “adopted” notion is “my thang”. However that is how I feel about the way you recall meeting me at the State Fair in Springfield, IL when you were running for U.S. Senator and I was sitting in your path with your oppositions T-Shirt on and I told you “he paid us to do this, but four busloads of people that he paid for of voting age will be voting for you. Yes I am the lady with gray and white hair with the red glasses. You remembered me through the young man who was running your office in North Las Vegas during the causus. I was a volunteer. I was born and raised in Chicago and remember you well when you beat the socks of an apponent of Tony Precwinkle for 4th Ward Alderman and the YVI Basketball Tourniments in Hyde Park. I was one of the organizers.

Keep the pressure on. It is my prediction “The gop and the tea party will re-elect you. There too many poor people that will vote. There are to few wealthy people in comparison when it comes to counting votes and that is the bottom line. Check out the Occupy Wall Street effort.

President Barack Obama again in 2012. President Clinton for Vice President 2012.
I like Joe Biden. But that thought sounds good to me.

There are mistakes in my previous post. Should have been: I was born and raised in Chicago and remember you well when you beat the socks off an opponent I was a campaign worker for and you represented Tony Preckwinle for Alderman of the 4th Ward. I also warmly remember the YVI Basketball tourniments you participated in in our neighborhood, Hyde Park. I was one of the organizers. I raised my children in Hyde Park.

This is my post to ugly posts I see on the internet about you.

“Barack Obama” is the President of the United States of America. Elected President of the United States by the citizens of the United States. HAIL TO THE CHIEF! GOD BLESS AMERICA. I just copy and paste it in replys.

Obama’s “rope-a-dope” strategy is working. While we thought he was too accommodating, it turns out we were the ones asleep. Like any good long-distance runner he’s been saving up for the final lap. He’s got his second wind now. Go Obama!

  • in.the.flood.zone

…that can wave a magic wand and unilaterally chase away the blues. The president has two powers granted by the Constitution: the veto and the executive order. He cannot “order” federal agencies to create more jobs…especially out of thin air. The issue is the money to fund those payrolls, and that is up to Congress.

@ jberry50: This nation was running a surplus under the Clinton Administration, which essentially ended a prolonged period of equitable taxation and banking regulation. It has been proven over and over that deregulation and tax windfalls to the high-income brackets do not promote prosperity. Europe is staggering under the economic collapse engendered by AMERICAN financiers, but in other respects European countries are much more stable and certainly easier to live in for the average-income person. They have both strict regulation and realistic taxation. So tell me to go live there if you want, but we can have that in the U.S. too.

The next time I learn a blog, I hope that it doesnt disappoint me as much as this one. I mean, I know it was my choice to learn, but I truly thought youd have one thing fascinating to say. All I hear is a bunch of whining about something that you may repair should you werent too busy searching for attention.
