I'm not surprised that the Bush administration would question the travel expenses of an appointee who was not making trips for political purposes, but rather for professional purposes. This was the president who had a pricey consultant who told him to roll up his sleeves when on a post-hurricanes trip to Florida in 2004, to make it appear that he was physically working. This was the president who, a year later, flew to California to pick up a guitar and then went to John McCain's birthday party in Arizona, but had Air Force One fly over New Orleans so he could observe the "great job Brownie" was doing. This was the president who was flown in a trainer onto the USS Lincoln that was maneuvered around so that it wasn't obvious they were barely offshore of San Diego, at the cost of millions for a photo op that served no other purpose.

When Carmona told the truth, Bush's attack dog Beato attacked the messenger, since the message itself was 100% accurate.
