In this week’s episode of the Trump transition on Saturday Night Live, the president-elect (Alec Baldwin) compulsively retweets various admiring nimrods, including a high school student, while his security briefers grow increasingly despondent. Sitting beside him, spiritually bereft adviser Kellyanne Conway (Kate McKinnon) explains candidly why his contentious Twitter patter remains so vital to her boss: “He does it to distract America from his business conflicts and all the scary people in his cabinet!”
Naturally, “Trump” denies that — just as persuasively as the actual Trump dismisses SNL’s devastating parody. It’s far too close to reality for comfort. And funny in that dark, unnerving way to which we must now accustom ourselves.
