Perry Double Dips State Salary And Pension

December 16th, 2011 8:52 pm Associated Press

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — Texas Gov. Rick Perry is a double-dipper, collecting a salary and retirement benefits simultaneously, according to a personal financial disclosure form made public Friday.

The report filed with the Federal Election Commission shows that Perry is collecting his $7,700 monthly state pension in addition to his nearly $133,000 annual salary as governor. State law allows any employee to begin collecting retirement benefits if their years of military and state service plus their age adds up to more than 80.

Rick Perry is one of those who keeps telling Americans that we need to “suck it up”.
Well, he figured out one way to “suck it up”. He is “sucking up” a lot of former taxpayer money in Texas. Really sick.

Let’s double check the amount on his double dip: Is he getting $7700 per month, as the story reads? That would be about 92k annually. Or is he getting a $7700 annual pension, paid in monthly increments of $641? Either way, it’s egregious.

Not surprised – been living in Texas all my life and still can’t figure out how this man has been Governor this long!
Never hear about / from him until elections come. Slick individual who works in the shadows and surfaces for re-elections only! Has gutted Education and brags about his A&M Education – quite sure they wish he wouldn’t mention that fact.
We would love to get him out of Texas, so this State could begin to heal from his tenure as Governor. He could show America once and for all, that things could actually be worse than they are, and the “War on Terror” would end because they would retire and watch the U.S. implode upon itself with him at the switch!!!

Why would anyone be suprised at anything this idiot does, or says? hankk, MI

This is just more of the me-me-me selfishness of the Rethugs. What a spoiled brat!

  • TSO

If this is the case, then why is this idiot so against entitlement?? Remember the “Ponzi Scheme”?? I feel sorry for Texans living under this dictator.

Perry is showing himself to be a man of the people. That is he is one of privilege and he deserves it. Meanwhile the rest of the public employees are suppose to suck it up and live with reduced retirement. What a fraud.

I would not vote for Rick Perry if his poll representatives gave out free Dove Bars, however, I support his right to take what he earned. He is not violating any law. He took jobs that had as a benefit a pension at the end with no stipulation as to retirement. My wife worked 45 years as a teacher with a contract that stated that when she retired, she collected. She took other employment in the same field (different state but still as a teacher) and collects her pension and her paycheck. She put in the years, paid for the benefits with both deductions from her paycheck and years of dedicated service and I do not see why she shouldn’t double dip. A pension is no different than buying an insurance policy. When you have met the requirements of the policy, it pays you.

If Governor Perry cheated the public, he should be called to task. If the public set up a system that gave a pension for one job while working in a different one, then, he should take what he EARNED—the key word being earned. I think the man is as close to the village idiot as it is possible to be but the citizens of Texas elected him instead of a failed comedian. You get what you pay for!

the fact that he gets a pension and double dips is no sin and in fact is his right. As it should be for anyone. HOWEVER, the fact that him and his party decries this for all public sector workers is sickening and if he is against it he should cease taking it. What a typical hypocritical republican deception and filthy lie.

We’re in a double dip recession, and Perry’s in a double dip reception. I thought he was plain stupid watching him in the debates. Here he has us all bamboozled with his with his nit-wit antics, laughing all the way to the bank.

Very sad, but Welcome to America.

As a state employee, to double dip I would have to retire from my position, and not rehire for at least 90 days. While I doubt he has done much governing in the last 90 days, I do not remember him retiring either.

Republican, Democrat, TX, NY, CA, and others….Rick Perry is not the only government politician/employee taking full, if questionable, advantage of compensation and pensions as a civil servant. It make no sense, but welcome to US government.
