WASHINGTON — They say that President Obama is a Muslim, but if he isn’t, he’s a secularist who is waging war on religion. On some days he’s a Nazi, but on most others he’s merely a socialist. His especially creative opponents see him as having a “Kenyan anti-colonial worldview,” while the less adventurous say he’s an elitist who spent too much time in Cambridge, Hyde Park and other excessively academic precincts.

Whatever our president is, he is never allowed to be a garden-variety American who plays basketball and golf, has a remarkably old-fashioned family life, and, in the manner we regularly recommend to our kids, got ahead by getting a good education.

Obama’s seemingly indifference to Israel would suggest his Muslim leanings. Israel, the only democratic country in the Middle East and one which has garnered more awards for medicinal breakthroughs and other research to benefit the whole of mankind, is being largely ignored by Obama. Doesn’t this indicate something?

  • JohnBurns

Lets wait and see what Sheriff Joe says , come march 1st at his scheduled press conference. You Lefties employ saul alinsky tactics when it comes to Obama s real identity , Ridicule the opposition , because in your heart of hearts you lefties know we have been usurped , Well it wont work ………….
If Bush was concealing his records , like Obama , you lefties would be having a conniption fit 24/7 ………… , Funny how no college classmates or ex girlfriends have ever come forward and say , I remember him from College , Why won’t Mr Transparent release his college / Passport records ? Hmmmmm

  • JohnBurns

How many times did you lefties compare Bush to Hitler ? Seems you have a ” selective memory ”

    Hypocrisy abounds on the left

  • FrankTeunissen

I can never rid myself of the feeling that at the root of all the ridiculous and vitriolic slurring of the President lies a slumbering, but deep-rooted, racist outrage at the thought of a black man in the White House.

  • jimackermann

Let’s all just be nice to the President that has wasted nearly a trillion dollars on a stimulis plan that didn’t work and cramed a health plan down our throats. I remember the left spouting “I Hate Bush” all the time. The right does not hate Obama, they just want him gone. And my opinion is that he sees himself as a king that can and should do whatever he wants; forget about what the people want. Yes, he does remind me of a dictator. But I still don’t hate him, I just want him retired.

  • norsketroll8

We can only hope and pray that President Obama will be returned to the presidency. He is a wonderful human being, a great family man, and one for whom our nation can be justly proud. He has and continues to provide the outstanding leadership qualities so necessary and important to the office of the president of this great nation of ours. All caring citizens of our country must ensure a rousing victory in the next election. President Obama has my vote in November, and I trust he has yours!

  • freethinker

When Obama came into office, he immediately started creating ‘czars’ and indicated he wanted his own private police force. To those who remember history, this was certainly alarming. Since then he co-oped private enterprises, bypassed laws he didn’t like and ignored others, passed bills requiring private companies to offer products and Americans to buy products, and made illegal appointments. These are the things that were done in 1930’s fascist states. So excuse me if I am alarmed at this man’s concept of governing.

  • jimackermann

I’m here to “rid” you of something; us that do not like Obama’s policies do so because we do not like his policies, not because of his race. If you want to throw the race card, be ready to prove your accusition. Race would be a very convenient way for you to explain away others thinking without having to prove anything.

  • norsketroll8

I am a devout supporter of our beloved president, and I will back him 100%. Only he can bring our dear country back to greatness. He is a true statesman and has the respect from other countries around the world. He is brilliant – has
strong leadership qualities, and he is our only hope for maintaining our status on the world stage. Hail to our chief!

  • tomb215

If E.J. sends me a mailing address I’ll see to it an ostrich suit is sent out today.

  • colescuttle

…and the beast’s name is racism, transparently cloaked in the guise of Christianity, patriotism and public concern. Lying seems to be the native language of the unscrupulous and ignorant on the right, Mr. Dionne, but why are you and other self-appointed spokesmen of the center and the left so reticent to speak the truth? Name the beast.

  • JohnBurns

Its not that Obama is half White that bothers me , Its the fact that he is all RED !
When Libbies throw the race card , They lose the debate by default , its all they have , Those who scream racism are in fact the real racists
If I am Racist , Why do I long for the day to see Allen West in the White House ??? DOH !
Record Unemployment , record deficits , record gas prices , Iran obtaining Nukes , record # of welfare recipients , Record # of Food Stamp recipients ,How long before America Under Obama burns like Greece ? My assumption , 4 more years of Obama and you can kiss America Good bye , George Soros and the NWO are inching closer and closer thanks to the Puppett Obama , When it happenes and you libbies realize what your ignorance has done , It will be too late , “If we as Americans lose our Freedom , there is nowhere to run , this is the last stand on earth” – Ronald Reagan

  • adlerman

Repugnants have no guts- everyone knows their attacks are racially based but they lie through their teeth- weak minded, cowardly- most didn’t serve – they don’t deserve to live in America. At least the KKK had the guts to say they hated blacks and Catholics even if they didn’t have the guts to show their redneck faces.

  • whitewater

This trivial pointless dead end debate of US citizenship needs to stop. We as a nation have real issues to address and solve. Get over it and get real gop.

  • concernedusa7

He rescued the USA & World from the Great Recession (G W Bush’s Depression).
He saved millions of employed jobs by coming to the aid of the AUTO & AUTO SUPPLY Industry.
He passed a sorely needed Health Care Program.
He is phasing our country out of the ignorant wars in Iraq & Afghanistan.
He and our Allies returned Libya to the Libyan people.
He eliminated a treacherous murder of American residents on American soil.
He is overseeing a resurgence of our economy despite Re/TeaPublican resistance.
He is typical of a caring average “99%” American.
By “He” I refer to the Obama Administration.
The LUNATICS will not like my truthful comment or your truthful article EJ, but the facts can not be ignored, God Bless the Obama Administration as they continue to restore our economy and Democracy. God Bless America the land that I love!

  • VlastaMolak

Obama’ speeches themselves indicate that Obama either never read Koran and Hadith and history of Islam and Mohamed, and thus says whatever CAIR and OIC tell him to do, or he is helping white wash Islam as a “peaceful” religion, for some ulterior motives, which are endangering US and the entire civilized world.

It was an ABOMINATION that at 10th anniversary of 9/11, no mention of islamists was mentioned but event was treated as some natural disaster. The terrorists of 9/11 (mostly Saudis) did not shout Hail Mary, Our Father, Shema Israel or OM when plunging those planes into WTO, but Allahu Akbar, which had become a war cry of all Islamists committing crimes against humanity, including domestic born and educated Muslims, like the army psychiatrist at Fort Hood, who shouted Allahu Akbar when murdering 13 of his collegues. It is Islam, STUPID!

Islam is INCOMPATIBLE with either US Constitution or the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and that is why Obama is helping violate Frist Amandemnet in US by muzzling telling trugh about Isla,, which is a supremacist ideology of hate of non-Musliims and promotes apartheid (dhimmitude), slavery, misogyny, pedophilia, polygamy and murder fro Allahu Akbar.

It is ISLAM ITSELF that is a root cause of terrorism and horror around the world, which Obama is trying to white wash. ANY American who votes for Obama is voting against democracy and human rights We do not behead “witches” and hang gays of murder those who chose different religion, as Saudis, Iranian, and other sharia-ruled countries DO!

  • PatrickHenry

I see concerned american bought into the propaganda we’re all the 99% fighting against the wealthy 1%. By the way, your so-called Bush recession officially ended over 2 years ago, so now it’s the Obama recession PLUS Trillions in debt, new taxes and More Spending. S.S. & MEdicare is bankrupt, yet Obama does nothing and even takes 1/2 Trillion more $’s from it. Unemployment has been at record lows for 3 years, and Obama isn’t even counting people that gave up looking, PLUS Millions of Baby Boomers started retiring during Obama’s administration, leaving the workforce and STILL it’s terrible. I suppose you think that is caring for the 99%. Just because you are a Democrat doesn’t mean you have to walk around with partisan blinders on, open you eyes for God’s sake!

  • Howz 1

Did the term magical thinker ever come up in the same sentence with the Republican party? It seems they have forgotten that George W Bush was ever president, or at least want to pretend that he wasn’t. So let’s burst the magic bubble. All the issues that John Burns mentioned occured as a direct result of W’s policies. The demonizing of the President is the way that Fox and Friends avoid talking about what really happened. The economic meltdown occured on his watch not Obamas, the bailout of Wall St was done by Hank Paulson A Republican, the 500 point drop in stock prices happened on his watch. The origional budget deficits were as a result of 2 unfunded wars, and an unfunded drug program for seniors. The layoffs were a direct result of the collaspe. The Republicans have more of the same policies like tax cuts for the rich that got us in trouble. Romney want to take the regulations off of Wall St and go back to the boom or bust days. So the only thing they have is to start making people believe Obama is either a socialist (health care reform) even though it was very similar to Romneys plan. Ending the combat mission in Iraq was an agreement with Bush and Maliki, the reduction of missles was started under Reagan. The only thing that the Republicans have is lies, lies lies

  • FloydBowman

I have read all all the comments and everyone that is from the right and has out landish comments about President Obama, just simply makes these statements WITHOUT ANY FACTS TO SUBSTANUATE THEIR POSITION. Tell me, for instance, some detail about him asking for a special police force of his own. He and every President gets just exactly that the minute they are elected. That is one of the most rediculous claims. I want to know what laws he by passed and what ones he ignored. You can’t get by with just making a statement like that. Tell us what you are referring to.

Again one of you is saying the stimulis money didn’t work. What do you think has brought about 3.7million new private sector jobs since the stinulis. The auto industry would be completely gone with at least one million jobs, if it hadn’t been for the stimulas. And by the way Chrisyler (sp.) has paid back all the money it was given to recover and GM has all but 26% which the government still owns. They are holding that 26% until stock rises a little more and then that will be sold.

The economy is bouncing back at a fair rate and could be much more and faster if he had had any help at all from the Repbulicans in Congress. All these things he has accomplished and a lot more, without any help from Congress Republicans.
As far as a health plan ramed down your throat, I have heard that many, many times from Republican Congressmen, but not one that I have heard tell specifics that are so wrong with it. Nothing but generic statements. You righties just try to play on emotions and you never come up with facts. I have a blog “Opinions Based On Facts.” If I can’t prove it I don’t say it. I haven’t heard one word from the Republican Presidential candidates that give specific facts.

  • agentam

I really like my neighbor,he is a family man, plays golf. He is friendly, always waves, plays basketball with his kids. A college graduate, never served in the military, goes to church with his family on Sundays. He has, according to Mr.Dione, all the qualities required to be President. The fact that he has no experience as president of anything or that he has never shown any leadership qualities should make him acceptable to become President of the United States. Come on people, lets admit we made a mistake and before it too late get somebody who can turn this country around. Our nation was built by statesman and is being ruined by politicans. I don’t know who can do this but I certainly know who can’t!!

  • toney70

I am looking forward to it

  • PatrickHenry

Howz1 seems to forget that under Bush’s last 2 years in office Democrats completely controlled Congress, House & Senate, and the “crisis” was created by the Subprime Loans enacted by Frank & Dodd, Democrats. The Tea Party actually is angry at the spending under Bush, but his spending is “nothing” compared to what Obama is doing to this country. By the way Floyd, even if Obama did create all these jobs, I think it breaks out to $1.3 Million per job, WOW, that is some accomplishment, plus Trillions in debt with more planned. Why can’t Liberal Democrats just admit that Obama’s policies have failed? Other Democrat Presidents were never this bad.

  • JoeDutra

Our POTUS simply provides the citizenry with an enormous wealth of comedic material to work with.

  • faithworkr

As a born again Christian baptist minister, I have had enough of these so called Christians misrepresenting me. The Word of God says that we are should love our neighbors. These so called christians have not shown OBAMA any love. The Word of God says they will know us by our love not our hatred. I didn’t agree with Bush policies but did I call him a non christian. He has proven time and again that he is qualified to be the president. As a Christian, I am prochoice for pro- life. God gives us choices. He doesn’t choose us we have to choose him.In order to be a christian you must Choose God so if God gives us choices then why don’t we want to give anyone a choice. The problem with the Republican party is they have become the Party of No instead of the party of yes you can.

  • crockerherrick

Whatever ‘The Destroyer’ [Obama] may be, he is certainly not an American.

  • Millie

The subject was the title of a You Tube that was on line a year or so ago. In it, Obama looks straight into the cmera and says “I am a Muslim, I was born in Kenya.” then he foes on to tell you his recollections of the Koran which he pronounces Kohrahn like a true Muslim would pronounce it.

Good article.Right wingers jumped all over this one. This guy put up with you birthers and released his birth certificate. Now this crazy guy wants him to release his college transcripts and passport.Don’t look now, but this article was for you.I’ve come to the conclusion that its not so much right wing media who is responsible for this behavior. It’s the right wingers themselves. Hannity and fox are really not intelligent people, which is painfully obvious. But merely getting the ratings.Even the politicians. It’s a song & pony show.Say something ridiculous, wait and see if the ponies start clapping, and boom its done. More like a bad popularity show indeed.

  • Austin00005

Some of these comments scare me.The intelligent factor for most of these comments is down to about a 1.5 1 being the biggest circle of stupidity known to man.All fifteen of the republican party body showed up to comment. The one I can respect is Obama is no American. It’s actually refreshing to see q conservative Christian speak some common sense. Please keep it up, cause some of this stuff is scary.Good luck to you.

  • Austin00005

Sorry wrong guy.Obama is no American, you are not a good guy, or a good conservative Christian with common sense.Faithworkr, you my friend keep up the good work.

The NEOCONS are protecting their houses of cards. Suppose in an Obama second term, the president demands the congress Audit All War Funding from 2001 to 2012. Uh Oh. The Houses of cards will collapse and prison will be awaitng hundreds, maybe thousands.

  • emac

You would think that after the stranius last 3 years, he would be qualified now?

  • Bentley

Dionne has said it well. There is not an iota of evidence to support the vitriol which comes from the extremists on the right. Our president, whoever it is, deserves the respect that goes with the office he holds. Those who insist on repeating the many lies told about Obama should be dismissed as too ignorant to command an audience. That we continue to aire the views of the likes of Franklin Graham; the shallow views of those candidates and their minions who profess to understand history while opening their mouths and proving that they know no history really taxes my patience. If Santorem and Gingrich and Romney want to be taken seriously, they should treat the President with respect and talk policy differences, not just criticize with harsh words instead of substance. Thus far, they have failed to explain any of their criticisms with provable substance.

  • Jim Groom

I’ve always found the insanity contained in so many of the anti-Obama postings disturbing. Just what are so many of our fellow citizens so afraid of? Obama is certainly not a Muslin (as if that should matter), not a socialist, not a Nazi and by any definition not a far left ideologue. As E.J. has clearly shown Obama is a rather mild middle-of-the-road politician. He came into office when the country had just been plunged into the worst economic mess since before WWII, along with two unfunded wars being added to my grandchilds credit card. A political system of governing that had become a national disgrace and polluted by poison-pill commentary. At yet he has managed to stay above the inflammatory rhetoric while be attacked by some of the most hypocritical people on the planet. His biggest failing is that he wasted nearly three years trying to work with trogodytes and obstructionist in Congress. Fear of the black-man is a curse that this country has yet to deal with in an adult fashion. If you doubt that just read some of today’s comments.

  • yes we can

Republicans lie… Bush never won the peoples vote!!! he didn’t win his election he brought it! he never declare war but funded it!!! but with deaths of our young men for what? not terrorism !! not wmd’s for greed!!! and pride of self, which will be the republicans down fall.. very soon say Nov 2012

  • MaryLongleyHalperin

These comments show that the folks who believe the lies they are repeating from watching Fox “News” are the most under-informed people in America. They have worked themselves up into a frenzy over the lies told by idiots and liars in our media.

  • politicalhack

So many of you folks seem to have forgotten what the article says. How could our president be both a Muslim and a secularist. How could he be a socialist when the stock markets have risen to their post recession highest. Have you forgotten logic and depend on the sick implications of Frank Graham and Fox news, as well as the racist assertions of Newt Gingrich.

And more than one of you is actually defending George W. Bush, a man who now occupies a position as the second worst president in American History, just above Richard Nixon……and I think that is giving Richard Nixon a great disservice. While I despised his megolamania, he at least did a few good things. They both shared, however, an obvious disregard for the constitution and the country of laws which they headed. Nixon waited several years before revealing his idea that the president was above the law. Bush showed it in office, by issuing more “signing statements” than all other presidents combined. These statements controvert the constitutional disallowance of the line-item veto, by saying in effect, “I am signing this legislation into law, but this portion does not apply to me.

He also cut taxes, especially for the rich, then turned around and went to war based on a series of lies, and raided Social Security to finance the first part of it. The rest was paid for by China. Is this a Man you want to allude to and praise?
President Obama has used some of the concepts of Keynesian economics to help get us out of the mans economic mess, Yes, there is government spending, but that is called for……it worked before, after a decade of free market decadence moved us into the Great Depression. He also caught Osama Bin Laden, the true enemy of our country, rather than Saddam Hussein. He got through a health system, that has been the goal of presidents ever since Teddy Roosevelt. And that health system highly resembles the alternative in the nineties suggested by Bob Dole, republican senator.

So all your claims and off the wall statements are just that. Not founded in fact.
and only mirror the irrational voices of right wing pundits from cable news…SHAMEFUL!!

  • GuessWho54

Eight years of unfunded warfare and tax cuts for the wealthy is what it took for GWB to completely destroy our economy. Now, after three years of hard work (fought at EVERY STEP by the radical Republicans and their smear machine) we are finally seeing the end of the nightmare. The wars are ending, our boys are coming home. Several of the worst terrorists the world has ever known have been dispatched to their Maker. The economy is, slowly but surely, turning around. The markets are improving. Joblessness is on the decrease. The auto industry in America has been rescued.

Now, just like three years ago, the only thing the Right can do is start up their old, worn-out spin machine and start spouting the Muslim, or birther, or Socialist diatribe again. All they can do is resort to spreading fear, hatred, and hysteria.

The ONE thing that has been proven by GWB’s tenure is that the Right’s way doesn’t work. It didn’t work for George I, or George II, and it won’t work now. When you have no solution, your only alternative is to spew venom.

  • tom kustron

All the Obama haters should realize they are firing up the Dems as well a Independents.Obama will be re-elected handily!!!!!

  • peteserb

It saddens me to read the comments of the left. Suppose Obama is a saint the left depicts. Then as the informed left you could answer the following questions. What were his college grades? What papers did he publish? Why doesn’t people who knew him in college step forward to tell about his college days? Where are all the girlfriends this brilliant individual knew? When did he speak out about his mentor Reverend Wright (Who hates the USA)? How about his close friend Bill Ayers ? Why don’t people question his voting present while in the senate? Why did he challenge his opposition so vociferously in local races so they dropped out and he had no opposition? Why does he not address these issues if he is so open and caring? Only the Manchurian candidate knows.

  • sleeprn01

I’ve learned to expect nothing from a pig but a grunt. In my 60 years I’ve never heard such vile hatred expressed so openly and believed by so many. May God bless our president and may God help America.

There are lots of Swift Boat writers out there today I see. I can only say that we know the facts and where to find them, so swift boaters we just see what you write and laugh at your lack of Patriotism to our Nation. President Obama will have another term and with it will regain the house and keep the senate and together we will make your mess go away as good Jobs are added and the economy grows,no more welfare for the wealthy & corporations and the debt will disappear and FDR’s regulations will once again make the USA a great nation. hankk, MI

  • Dave DiDo

I personally think President Obama is a good man, a loyal American and a good president. He has done nothing to make me think otherwise. I am pro-life- back in the seventies I picketed abortion clinics. I consider myself a social conservative and, like E. J. Dionne, I did not agree with the way President Obama initially handled the contraceptive issue in the health bill.Hoever, he did try to make a compromise with Catholic leaders over that issue. He acted reasonably toward those with whom he did not agree. What I can’t understand is, why the vitriolic hatred that some Americans harbor toward this president? I read a lot of history and it seems to me that no U.S. president has received such hatred since Abe Lincoln. We all know why Lincoln was hated, mostly by Southerners, for threatening to raise the black man to equal citizenship with the white man. Some will argue that the issue was really “states’ rights”, but I don’t believe “states’ rights” would engender the kind of hatred that was directed at Lincoln. And so I say to jimackermann above that you ,sir, may not have racist tendencies, but the only way to explain the absolutely irrational hatred that some people have for our President is that it stems from latent racism.Just my opinion.

  • Baron Cormac

I am a liberal Democrat and made no bones about my dislike of the job President Bush was misdoing during his eight years in office. Nor did I make my opinions about his election by five people in 2000, and by a series of improperly programmed voting machines in 2004. However, in all that time I never denigrated the Office of the Presidency, unlike some of my associates on the far-right. In fact, I recall those same individuals saying things like “how are we gonna get rid of this guy?” back in 1993 after the last Democrat was elected, too.

  • GuessWho54

Peteserb, because nobody really cares, except for the radicals who have to find something, anything, to throw up to discredit the President.

I’m in my mid-fifties. Nobody gives a rat’s patoot what grade I got in American Government, English, or Basket-Weaving back in the late 70’s. It has NOTHING to do with my ability to do my job today.

You ask, “Why does he not address these issues if he is so open and caring?” Simple. Because none of those things matter in the job he has. Besides, as we’ve all learned from the “Birther” issue, even when he does release something, there will be those who will still insist that it’s not enough.

But the conspiracy nuts right will keep on hammering about useless issues like these, and other social issues dear to their heart, simply because not a one of the TP/GOPers have anything to offer on the economic/job crisis except more of what got us into the pit in the first place. It would be amusing if it wasn’t so serious.

    Actually, it’s amusing anyway.

  • grjohnsonlaw

I don’t usually agree with EJ Dionne but his remarks about Obama being criticized for what people think he is are right on the money. Anyone who thinks that the people who call Obama a Muslim, a Nazi, or a socialist are not racist need to get their heads out of the sand. It doesn’t help that some left wing extremist called Bush a Nazi and that Hitler might turn over in his grave that Obama is being called one. The hate for Obama is simply not justified based on his policies. Herbert Hoover was not so disliked. There is more than enough to citicize the President about. If one were to question his willingness to take a stand on tough issues that have any likelihood of being resolved such as the Simpson Bowles deficit reduction plan I would agree that perhaps the President should grow a couple. It isn’t just a coincidence that the majority of white males don’t support Obama. Now I ask these Obama critics to tell me: exactly what is there about him that white men do not like?

  • Indy

Despite everything else, the conservatives have not come up with anyone better than Obama. So there is really no other choice.

  • MAMAS4

I have no problem with anyone disagreeing with President Obama’s politics and methods of carrying them out. That is our right as Americans. My issue is with those who insist on labeling him as “not a real American” because of his ancestory and his name. If anyone has found a way to choose the family he’s born into I hope that person makes a fortune selling the formula.I suppose he could have changed his name to something more AngloSaxon like Steven Kennedy or Bush, but then he would have been denying his heritage and dishonoring his ancestory.Stick to the facts.I personally feel he’s doing the best with what he was given. If you disagree, disagree with that alone.

  • merman

When all the RNC assasination attempts failed, those pulling the big money and power strings resorted to character assassination. The character assassination includes techniques used by Nazi Germany which equates to (1) dehumanizing him in every way possible – aliens works with some people; (2) Calling him any name in the book that incites fear among the ignorant (Muslim; Illegal; Racist; Communist; Nigger) anything they can think of to propagate fear using lies; (3) This is backed up by hundreds of millions of dollars and 21st century technology. (4) the 21st century technology includes this very medium – the internet, E-Mails, Blogs, and an army of paid bloggers who go on every site like this to spread their hate, their lies, in as many places and to as many people as humanly possible.

Those perpetrating the assassination and those pawn duped into beleiving the propaganda are allowing themsleves to be influenced and controlled by the dark forces including Lucifer himself. Why Lucifer?? He himself likes to see the suffering chaos and evil acts brought about by the true beleivers of the lies and propaganda who can’t tell truth from the illusion created. He also knows that when people “act out” in anger hate and cause other human brothers to suffer and die, he will receive a steady supply of Obama haters in hell for him to torture endlessly.

What happened to empathy? This world is the only one we have and I think it would be a good national policy to stop making enemies overseas and solve our own problems. It is a shame that Rupert Murdoch and a lot of Big Money panders to what a lot of us want to believe. However, they wouldn’t do it if a large portion of us didn’t want something like Fox News and Big Money didn’t want to stoke our fear & hate to take our mind off the real causes of our problems at home.

  • SteveHarp

There’s a well known term for these kind of nonsensical rants from the Right that Dionne is describing. The term is “psychosis”:

“Psychosis is a loss of contact with reality, usually including false beliefs about what is taking place or who one is (delusions) and seeing or hearing things that aren’t there (hallucinations).

    “Psychotic symptoms may include: Disorganized thought and speech; False beliefs that are not based in reality (delusions), especially unfounded fear or suspicion; Hearing, seeing, or feeling things that are not there (hallucinations);
Thoughts that “jump” between unrelated topics (disordered thinking).” – US National Library of Medicine web site.

The “War on Terror” these people are engaged in is an internal Terror of a world more ambiguous and complex than they are prepared to deal with, hence the completely irrational terror projected onto Obama (among many “others”).

  • OzJMK

    E. J. Dionne is quite right in his frustration with But as a Christian American myself, I contend that Rev. Franklin Graham’s turning the plight of persecuted Christians abroad into “proof” that President Obama is probably a Muslim after all, should not be seen as a slur, just blatantly and demonstrably untrue. President Obama’s conversion to Christ and his efforts to follow him should be clear to those who know Jesus…our job is to pray with and for President Obama on his difficult journey of being a Christian who is president of a very diverse people, all of whom he is pledged to serve, not just the right-wing Christians.

I am sad for Dr. Billy Graham that his son has strayed so far from the Gospel and from his father’s wonderful example of explaining Jesus and calling all to him, and leaving it between God and the believer, his or her development and exercise of faith. He prayed with and counseled presidents and never attacked them.

There seems to be a double standard. Right-wing Christians like Rev. Franklin Graham, were silent, even congratulatory when President G.W. Bush [like President Obama, a convert to Christ as a young man] presided over or allowed actions here and in the rest of the world that were clearly and blatantly against Jesus’ teachings, such as not insisting that Israel stop building settlements on Palestinian land [perhaps they are ignorant of the fact that Palestinians were amongst the first Christians and 50% of residents in Bethlehem [in the occupied Palestinian West bank]are Christians. Jewish settlers are working there to take land that was to be used for a children’s hospital, desperately needed because of the hours it takes for Palestinians to get through the check points to the nearest hospital in Israel.

On the other hand, President Obama has been fighting for an end to building of settlements, not to go against Israel [the majority of Israelis [60%] are against the settlements], but because building more settlements is stopping any progress on peace for our Christian Palestinian brothers and sisters, our Muslim Palestinian and Israeli friends, and our Jewish Israeli friends.

So Rev. Franklin Graham, try to emulate your father who went to the White House to pray with and counsel Presidents, and would not even think of publicly questioning the faith of any of them.

    E. J. Dionne is quite right in his frustration with President Obama’s STILL being the object of these absurd paranoid fantasies. But as a Christian American myself, I contend that Rev.

Billy Graham that his son has strayed so far from the Gospel and from his father’s wonderful example of explaining Jesus and calling all to him, and leaving between God and the believer, his or her development and exercise of faith. Dr. Graham prayed with and counseled presidents and never attacked them.

My kind must be ignored. I am the white, conservative, democrat that voted for Clinton,Bush, and Obama. Clinton was an economic genius whom I would re-elect in a heartbeat. Bush was an illiterate embarrassment with poorly thought policies and Obama is a Goldman-Sachs/Federal Reserve puppet. And none of these three I voted for seem to give a damn about the constitution. But I am probably just a hate-filled racist right?

i always start my comments with “My dear fellow Americans”I was was going to stop saying that but my conscience convinced me that you are really only an unsubstantual number like .0000000000001% (made that number up,but it seems to fit) of the American population) why don’t you re-read e.j.dionne’ commentary and then run as fast as you can to the mirror, maybe if you do that you might get a fleeting glimps of who and what you really are(mentally)do you really think that Americans would install a man like hitler in office? (Obama) has been called that.If you think that Americans are so stupid to put another hitler in office, you must be out of your minds.Admit it,you just can’t stand a man that very well might pull America up from obscurity. Why do you keep making up bad things in your minds.Parania & schizophrenia seems to be the rule, rather then the exception with a lot of you.some are lacking in compassion, love, evenhandedness and many traits that make man seperate from the Pig, jackells and other preditors.Hatred drips from your lips,i view the people on line that only ask for: peace, understanding, tranceparency(Racial)and fair play as Blessed amoung men and women.By slandering president Obama, do you realize that you are slandering an office, one that has been held by many, many great men. Peace
