As a journalist, commercial-or even government– use of private drones is intriguing. However as an individual there are foreseeable problems relating to personal privacy issues. Imagine your neighbor [or Sheriff] having “Home-drone-Surveillance” while you are skinny dipping in the “privacy” of your backyard pool or doing what Californian’s do in Hot-Tubs. [Q-How many Californians does it take to screw in a lightbulb? A- None, Californians don't screw in lightbulbs, they screw in Hot-Tubs.] Alternatively, networking of video/audio-surveillance equipment fixed on telephone poles, etc. can and do facilitate law enforcement in apprehending criminals and securing video evidence. If home-owners and business would partner with law-enforcement [and visa versa] to mount and give internet access to law enforcement of the view of the video/audio surveillance equipment, [Home/business owners purchasing their own surveillance equipment] and, as in the live-streaming by Tim Poole of OCCUPY WALL STREET, allowing law enforcement to view the results, the cost to law enforcement would be minimal and would greatly enhance their ability to do their job. New technology does need some regulation, but the conflict with air-craft space is surely only one concern. Those Republicans against BIG GOVERNMENT will surely balk at government regulation, but that is what government is for.
