Romney’s Big Speech To Evangelicals Avoids Mormonism

May 13th, 2012 9:35 pm Associated Press

LYNCHBURG, Va. (AP) — Mitt Romney’s Mormon faith has shaped his life, but he barely mentioned it as he spoke to graduates at an evangelical university Saturday.

And he hardly touched on hot-button social issues like abortion and gay marriage, instead offering a broad-based defense of values like family and hard work.

“Culture — what you believe, what you value, how you live — matters,” Romney told graduates gathered in the football stadium on Liberty University’s campus in the Virginia mountains. “The American culture promotes personal responsibility, the dignity of work, the value of education, the merit of service, devotion to a purpose greater than self, and at the foundation, the preeminence of the family.”

Instead of a red-meat conservative policy speech, Romney discussed his own family and offered a defense of Christianity, saying that “there is no greater force for good in the nation than Christian conscience in action.” Still, he was inclusive: “Men and women of every faith, and good people with none at all, sincerely strive to do right and lead a purpose-driven life,” Romney said.

He had one sustained applause line in a 20-minute speech delivered days after President Barack Obama historically embraced gay marriage. “Marriage is a relationship between one man and one woman,” Romney said to a cheering crowd of students who have to follow a strict code of conduct that considers sex out of wedlock and homosexuality to be sins.

of course he didn’t mention it, if he had the crowd would have promptly gotten up and walked out.

The guy is so clueless….it would be funny…if he really wasn’t trying to be our President…His own Party doesn’t want him. No one wants to endorse him. This is like some bad joke on all of us

I was always under the impression that” Church and State” were separated…Why is this an issue?
This will all come down to individual beliefs’ in my point of view…At the end of the day it will not matter as to where this candidate speaks!!

I thought the Mormons call themselves, The church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints ? ? ?

If you look at a Mormon Temple you will see a “golden” staute crowning the Dome. This is the Angel Moroni he that appeared to a young man named Joseph Smith. Moroni revealed the golden Tablets upon which Joseph Smith formulated a new “Religion” based on information from the “Golden Tablets”. In the beginning this group took the name Mormon. There was a schism down the line, Joseph Smith died and the mantle passed down to a man named Brigham Young who, by many, is considered the Patriarch of the modern Church. The name has been changed from Mormon to The Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter Day Saints or LDS for short. Sounds like a latter day take on Moses and the Ten Commandments he received on the Maountain doesn’t it.

Mittens will never be president. He is a bully, a racist, a bigot and stupid. Does anyone really believe all those stories about how he made so much money at Bain and also saved the Olympics. He had lots and lots of help – people he never thanked, people he never recognized because they were the “little people”. He is an arrogant jerk and now it turns out, a bully, as well. Go away Mittens and ride up and down in your car elevator and take these fools from Liberty University with you.

Does Liberty University still have a dinosaur on display with early man? The last place Mitt should have spoken was at that university.

sheilab2: You really sound like a deprived democrat. Maybe Obama should use more of my tax money to fund your catch up with “Mittens”.

What Mitt Romney believes, and what he values, is a complete mystery to most of us. What he supports depends entirely on his immediate audience. As such, I don’t take anything Mitt says seriously.

  • Safronia11

He just says whatever the people in front of him want to hear??? This is a guy who said that
Seamus, the dog he tied to the roof of his car for hours..”enjoyed it” He & his wife laughing like it was a great joke. I guess the dog was having such a good time he pooped enough that it was running down the side of the car. Along with the vomit from fear. Mitt said the dog ate an entire turkey before they strapped him up there for the fun ride. And that is the reason he got sick. I wonder if that was just off the top of his head or they had to conspire to come up with that. Nice that he can so easily blow off the cruelty it took to even think of doing it, much less actually doing it. Whadda a guy..whadda wife…whadda family.

Of course his faith has directed his life. It kept out of the draft and that dust-up in South East Asia. I hate to be the bearer of bad news to Mitt and the GOP, but family values and the value of hard work are not political. The GOP or the Democrats don’t have a lock on either of those. Maybe if we all live long enough just what the heck Romney actually believes in will become obvious to all…that is besides talking out both sides of your mouth at the same time.

What do Christans know about Mormonism and Mitt Romney? How do they feel about the three kingdoms of heaven? There are 3 kingdoms, the highest is the Celestial Kingdom, where the people that get there will become a God and have their own kingdom. Mitt will be a GOD in his own kingdom, in his own universe, where he will run and control everything that goes on there. Most Christians believe that they will be reserrected(?) and live with Jesus under the father of Jesus who is the only God in the universe. If I am wrong about this, will you correct this and explain where I am wrong? Thank you.

  • Melvin Chatman

This clearly shows the flexibility Mitt has within him.
You can never pin him down on an issue because he just switches positions and takes credit for the outcome if it’s positive – a rare skill set that few people have!
I was watching a Lizard the other day and was reminded of Mitt when the Lizard would change colors from limb to leaf and back again, and this was a big tree with many branches and leaves. I named the Lizard, Mitt because they had so much in common!!

My good friend and next door neighbor is a member of the LDS. His take on multiple marriage is that a man has got to be stupid to take on more than one wife at a time – and his wife agrees with him 100%. But – they are not the LDS of Warren Jeffs so I guess that makes them heathens like they rest of us????

  • oldtack

    BS
By your reply I assume you must be a follower of Warren Jeffs and the Fundamental Church of Latter Day Saints? Do you have more than one wife? If so, were any of your wives under the age of 16 whne the “Church” joined you in Matrimony? If so I’m sure the FBI will want to visit you on this matter. They do peruse this site you know.
