Senator Cruz

  • RobertCHastings

Typical Republican hypocrisy. Advocate smaller government, even in areas like disaster help and reflief, except when the needs occurs in your corner of the world. He doesn’t want federal money EXCEPT 1) Medicaid, 2) disaster relief, 3) support for education, 4) unemployment, 5) military, 6) research and development, 7) etc., etc., etc.

    • td5676

This after the state has cut away almost all regulation enforcement. Now they want the Feds to pay for it? This was a man-made disaster, not a natural one… and those who have prioritized the spending in Texas over the years have had a hand in creating it.

  • Obiejuan

With all the threats to secede from the union, I can’t help but wonder how much better off the rest of the country would be without this leech of a state. We could get rid of 1 million NRA members in the process! Win – Win

    • Allan Richardson

The only things we would be losing are the Johnson Space Center and the cultural scene in Austin.

      • Obiejuan

All reasonable people will be given time to leave before the “McCain-Cruz” fence goes up. Or we can just erect a toll booth and make the geniuses in Texas go back for a “shit-load of dimes”

  • CrankyToo

What should we expect from a Repugnican POS?

“In the first place God made idiots. This was for practice. Then he made DemonRATS.” ― Mark Twain, Following the Equator: A Journey Around the World

    • english_teacher

Sorry but the actual Twain quotation is “In the first place God made idiots. This was for practice. Then He made School Boards.”

      • ObozoMustGo

Of course I know that. I would expect that you would know that also, teacher.

        Have a nice day!

“Don’t let schooling interfere with your education.” – Mark Twain

english teacher, if you have been reading the National Memo and checking out the comments post, you know that must go always twists what famous people have said to suite him posting and does not post the truth. A question for you that doesn’t anything to do with the cartoon. you go by the name of English teacher but don’t capitilze the e in English, why? just wondering?

        • english_teacher

I know that OMG likes to misquote and twist but he shouldn’t always get away with it.

As for your question about capitalizing the “e” in English, let’s just say that my favorite poet is e.e. cummings.

          • Barbara Morgan

The poet’s name sounds familiar but not sure if I have ever read any of his or her poetry.

    • Allan Richardson

I hope you can get some help for your delusions.

    • WhutHeSaid

Still smarting over a black man kicking your ass, eh? Get used to it.

    • RobertCHastings

And when did Mr. Twain say that? It was probably well before the time when the Republicans of his era were the party of the people, of progress, and of populism. In case you have been totally historically unaware, during the years that Mr. Clemens was a thriving writer, the Republican party was respected, and the Democratic party was still the party that was against Emancipation and the 14th Amendment.

  • ralphkr

I do not understand what all the criticism is about. I was born and raised in an ultra-conservative uber-Christian state and we were taught in school that you judge your politicians by how much money they bring home from the Feds. Cruz is merely following the Republican principle of fighting against federal spending anywhere other than in his state.

    • Barbara Morgan

If you don’t realize why Cruz is being cristicized you have a major problem. Cruz voted against helping thousands of people after he was sworn in office in January that had lost everything they owned,,people who had been injured during hurricane Sandy, who had family members killed who didn’t have jobs to go to because of their places of employment had been destored by Sandy. Also there were blizzards hitting the same areas that Sandy hit and a lot of people didn’t have heat because of hurricane damage and were in danger of freezing to death. The damage and loss of lives in West Texas didn’t happen because of nature but because of greed and I read that the town didn’t have over say 5,000 people if that many living in it. Cruz is being called hypocrite because he voted against helping thousands in the Northeast that needed help and now expects to get tax money for a town with less than 5000 people because the town of West allowed homes, and businesses( like a nursing home) to built next to the plant instead zoning the area as a no build zone in order to protect people in case of an explosion like the one that happened. Notice you don’t give the name of of your ultra-conservative uber christian state why not? Shame of the fact that your conservative state thinks it is ok to bring as much federal money as it can get from the federal government and yet not have any of the rich that live in the state pay taxes.

      • ralphkr

Obviously,Barbara, you missed the entire point of my post which was that Cruz was merely living up to the only reason for him to exist, namely, to bring as much Federal money to his state as possible while keeping the Feds from wasting money in other, undeserving, areas of the Union. It is also my understanding that Texas does not believe in zoning since that is considered an infringement upon property rights.

        • Barbara Morgan

My point abour Cruz and what your post said is that no matter what state a member of Congress represents most of what he or she votes for or against effects all states all times. Members of Congress should think about what effect their vote will have on all of the Country not just their state before voting on anything.
Members of Congress can no longer act like you say you were taught they were suppose to do when growing up, All their actions effects people in 50 states not just one anymore
All states pay taxes to the Federal government(some more than others) so no area should be considered undeserving no matter how the area voted during election.
Cruz and fellow Republicans voted against aide for Sandy victims because most of the Northeast voted for the Democraic Presidental candidate not the Republican candidate. The Republican vote against Sandy victims is punishment for
daring to vote for who they wanted to be President instead of the Republican candidate. Because he voted to punish the victims of Sandy, which has thousands more victims than West, Texas has, I hope Congress members from the Sandy Hurriacaine but major limitions on what kind of help FEMA can give West. I do not live in either area, but feel when a disaster that could have been avoided like the one in West, Texas happens, disaster aide should be limited and the people that caused the disaster be made to pay for the clean up and recovery of the area.

Ah yes, in the past Alaskans had much the same philosophy.
