#EndorseThis: Colbert Reveals Motive Behind Russia Hack

Learning of Vladimir Putin’s reported personal involvement in the US election hacking by Russian operatives — an “artisanal hack” by the former KGB officer — Stephen Colbert can’t believe the real motive is an old vendetta against Hillary Clinton.

More likely, the Russian leader hopes to guide his American acolyte on more current issues: “Don’t worry, Donald, I’ll handle the intelligence briefings. You go meet with Kanye.”

Meanwhile the Trump inaugural team is struggling. Sir Elton John denied the claim that he will perform at Trump’s inauguration; not a single Washington-area marching band has asked to join his parade; and even dangling ambassadorships hasn’t lured any A-list musical talent. But the Late Show host suggests a down-home entertainment alternative that shouldn’t require any bribes.

Was This The Most Blatant Trump Lie Of The Campaign? Study What Happened

Donald Trump lies early, late, and often. But it isn’t every day that he utters an outrageous falsehood about an incident that was recorded and witnessed by thousands. He is so arrogant and reckless as not to care whether videotape instantly proves that he is lying — as the intercut clip below does clearly enough to make any decent person wince.

To set the scene: On Friday, President Obama was speaking before a big, mostly African-American audience at a Clinton rally in North Carolina when an older white male heckler with a Trump sign, clad in a military jacket and insignia, interrupted him. Angered, the crowd started to boo and chant.

Stop right there, and let the Republican nominee tell the rest of the story, as he did at a rally in Pennsylvania later that day. According to him,  the president began “really screaming” at the elderly heckler. “If I spoke the way Obama spoke to that protester,” Trump grimaced, “they would have said ‘he became unhinged.’ He spent so much time screaming at this protester. It was a disgrace.”

To understand just how badly the president behaved, said Trump, “You have to go back and study, and see what happened.”

Yes indeed, Donald. Everybody should watch, study, and see what happened.

Now most Americans probably wouldn’t be surprised by the president’s actual behavior. And most wouldn’t be surprised by Trump’s shameless fabricating. But even now, it is stunning to observe that contrast unfold in such dynamic juxtaposition — and to contemplate that this demagogic bozo, who belches out such stinking whoppers so effortlessly, could become America’s next president (H/t Deadspin).
