This Week In Crazy: How I Learned To Stop Worrying And Love The ‘Gay Bomb’

Gay bombs! Sexy radicals! Obama’s long con to nuke his own country! Welcome to “This Week In Crazy,” The National Memo’s weekly update on the wildest attacks, conspiracy theories, and other loony behavior from the increasingly unhinged right wing.

5. Ann Coulter

CoulterAnn Coulter and Nomiki Konst, founder of The Accountability Project, appeared on Fox & Friends Wednesday to discuss the very real problem of our disastrously uninformed electorate.

Konst proposed that the country should invest in civic education to engage more people to show up at the polls and make informed decisions. Sounds reasonable.

Coulter said we should reinstate literacy tests to make it “more difficult to vote” and that “there’s nothing unconstitutional about literacy tests.” Sounds like disenfranchisement.

As for giving people more civic education, well that’s just “twelve years of Chinese-style propaganda” that only makes people dumber. In characteristic fashion, Coulter shouted “That’s nonsense!” at Konst when she began to recite some pesky facts, and made some smarmy specious asides, such as accusing Democrats of stuffing “bushels” of phony ballots as part of a long history of voter fraud.

But she did earnestly ask the question: “Is a completely ignorant voter better for the Democratic Party or the Republican Party?” I’ll go out on a limb and say that if Coulter saw these photos, she might be somewhat less eager to send only literate voters to the polls. Just a wild guess.

4. Craig James and “Tom”

Last Wednesday on Washington Watch, the Family Research Council’s daily radio show, substitute host Craig James fielded a call from “Tom,” who had some interesting ideas on the origins of gays and lesbians in America:

I know this is going to sound off in left field. But if you Google “Pentagon gay bomb” […] the Pentagon was using certain chemicals and aphrodisiacs to spray to put on the soldiers so they’d be attracted to other men as a kind of weapon  Did some of those techniques get used on the American people? Just a thought.

“Sounds kinda out in left field, like you said,” James replied. He preferred to chalk up our current state of moral degradation to Americans simply stepping away from God. “I don’t know about any ‘spray.'”‘

It’s hard to say which of them is closer to the mark.

3. Ann Reed

AnneReedWhat’s the difference between being gay and being obese? Well, according to Ann Reed at noted hate group The American Family Association, being gay is the much deadlier “lifestyle choice.”

So Reed asks: Isn’t Michelle Obama’s Let’s Move initiative just a tad hypocritical? After all, why should the First Lady be encouraging exercise and good nutrition, while President Obama speaks out against the (abusive, dangerous, and discredited) practice of “gay conversion therapy”? The First Couple, she argues, have made a narrow decision, informed by their cultural bias, to fight junk food rather than fighting “misguided sexual desires.”

She writes:

If the Obamas really understand and care about the importance of teaching a child correct behaviors at an early age when it comes to nutrition and exercise, why is the concept inapplicable when it concerns damaging sexual cravings and behaviors?

Just two months ago, Reed reflected on her experience of being humiliated in school:

“Embarrassing” would be an inadequate word to describe the teasing I experienced when I was an early teen. I remember the hot, sudden rush of blood into my face and ears when kids on the bus made fun of me…

I hope she can empathize, then, having experienced some fraction of the bullying that gay and lesbian children endure at a level beyond that of their straight peers — and perhaps she can consider how much more vicious and damaging it is for children to be treated that way at home, under the guise of “love.”

But I doubt it.

2. Alan Keyes

Alan KeyesIn a recent column for WorldNetDaily, Alan Keyes enjoins Americans to snap out of their stupor, come to their senses, and realize that President Obama has made a devil’s bargain with Islamic militants, empowering them to strike at us — and we are all going to burn as a result.

You might ask, sensibly, what the President of the United States has to gain from the destruction of said United States. You just don’t have the stomach to accept the level of evil collusion at work, or the mental gymnastics necessary to process Keyes’ baroque paranoia.

The fact is Obama and his supporters, among them Hillary Clinton, have conspired to empower ISIS and Iran with nuclear capability so they can impose martial law and establish dictatorial rule. And when America’s enemies nuke the Reichstag, so to speak, the “consolidation of tyrannical power” will be complete.

It’s yet another example of the right painting Obama as both Chamberlain and Hitler, sissy and tyrant, either piloting the country into certain demise through ineptitude or as part of some long con to be king of the ashes.

1. Daniel Lapin

DanielLapinWashington Watch again. Rabbi Daniel Lapin went on an edition of the show hosted by Family Research Council president, Tony Perkins, to explain to us that liberals are sexually attracted to Islamic extremists. Hear him out.

“There’s a sexual dimension to this,” he began, referring to liberals’ relationship with radical Islam. We have apparently become submissive and weak as a nation, thanks to the “epidemic of leftism that has swept its sordid stain throughout America.” Gone are the days when we had strong masculine role models — “dad in The Waltons” and John Wayne are held up as totems. Now, under the insidious sway of “metrosexuals,” the “feminized American Left” finds itself in a Stockholm Syndrome-like dynamic with Islamic militants:

The Left has fallen in love with the masculinity of Islam. We are attracted to the masculine strength and brutality of Islam. This is the girl in the high school being attracted to the bad tough guy. And that’s really what’s happening.

“That’s interesting,” Perkins says more than once. Yes. Interesting.
