GOP Lawmaker: Fracking Is Fine, Because ‘Indians’ Used Methane-Filled Water For Warmth

People have many differing opinions on the merits of fracking. But they’re usually not as creative and nonsensical as that of Republican Colorado state senator Randy Baumgardner.

On right-wing activist Gordon Klingenschmitt’s Pray In Jesus’ Name show, Baumgardner argued that fracking must be okay for the environment, because having methane in water is totally normal.

He knows this because apparently “Indians” used this water for warmth, and because he’s gone to “fracking seminars” that left him feeling very educated on the topic.

“I’ve been doing a lot of the fracking seminars, and if people haven’t been, then they really don’t understand it,” he said. “They talk about methane in the water and this, that, and the other, but if you go back in history and look at how the Indians traveled, they traveled to the burning waters. And that was methane in the waters and that was for warmth in the wintertime.

“So a lot of people, if they just trace back the history, they’ll know how a lot of this is propaganda,” Baumgardner said.

He seems confused that people are concerned at all about fracking, as according to him, “since the 1940s, when they first started fracking, there’s never been one reported incident.”

This not only ignores all of the risks of fracking, but the reports of earthquakes and toxic emissions that have already been linked to the controversial practice.

If you want to be as educated as Baumgardner is on the subject, it’s apparently really easy. As he stressed in the interview, “most of these seminars are free!”

But this is far from the craziest moment on Klingenschmitt’s show. In the past, Klingenschmitt, who is a Colorado state House candidate, told his audience not to worry about same-sex marriage bans being struck down, because Jesus has the power to overrule the Supreme Court and send all gay men straight to Hell.

Klingenschmitt is also convinced that people get high because of demons.

There’s clearly lots of rational thinking happening on this show.
