Seth Meyers Hilariously Lambasts Trump’s Attempt To Capture The Black Vote

Then there were the antics of Trump’s most prominent African-American surrogate, Ben Carson.

This past weekend, Trump made his first campaign stop in a predominantly African-American community in the hopes of ameliorating his disastrously low polling with the demographic. Despite his campaign being built on hate and racism, with an obvious appeal to white nationalists and KKK members, Trump believed he could “overcome all that by going to a black church in Detroit, and awkwardly swaying back and forth like a dad who brought his kids to a Demi Lovato concert,” Seth Meyers joked on Tuesday evening’s “Late Night.”

“Also I love how anytime Trump engages in even the slightest physical activity, he has to check to make sure his hair is still there,” Meyers observed.

“Still it wasn’t as bad as Trump supporter Ben Carson who escorted Trump to Detroit, Carson’s hometown. Because while everyone else at the church was dancing, Carson, who was standing right up front, was caught checking his phone,” added Meyers. “Trump is trying to capture the black vote, Carson is trying to catch Pokemon.”

But that wasn’t the last time Carson proved to be a less-than-effective surrogate for Trump. In an interview following a tour of Carson’s neighborhood, the former presidential candidate was asked by CNN’s Jeremy Diamond what he thought Trump took away from the trip.

“But Carson was clearly distracted,” Meyers noted, before showing a clip of Carson looking shocked to discover he was missing something.

“Oh! My luggage!” Carson exclaimed and ran off before even answering Diamond’s question.

“That’s a doctor,” Meyers told the audience. “Hopefully, his patients never saw that face after operating on them,” he joked.

Among Trump’s biggest problems in recuiting black voters is his persistence as a birther. After publicly doubting for years that President Obama was born in America and repeatedly questioning the legitimacy of his Hawaiian birth certificate, Trump’s new position that he “doesn’t talk about it anymore,” just isn’t going to cut it.
