The Loch Ness Monster Is Real, And Five Other Insane Lies Taught By Louisiana Textbooks

Louisiana Governor and possible vice presidential nominee Bobby Jindal has championed the most extensive school voucher program in the nation, slashing funding to public schools and rerouting the money to private institutions — up to 80 percent of which are religious in nature.

There are plenty of reasons to oppose school voucher programs like Jindal’s, but one of the most dramatic is the fact that these programs use taxpayer money to promote some truly outrageous curricula.

Bruce Wilson of Talk To Action has compiled a list of outrageous lessons being taught by the three of the textbook companies — Accelerated Christian Education, A Beka Book, and Bob Jones University Press — that write the books used by many of the schools that benefit from Louisiana’s voucher program.

Here are six outrageous lies that thousands of Louisiana children will be taught in school; all are quotes from Wilson and Rachel Tabachnik’s documentary, “School Choice: Taxpayer-Funded Creationism, Bigotry, and Bias.”

“Are dinosaurs alive today? Scientists are becoming more convinced of their existence. Have you heard of the ‘Loch Ness Monster’ in Scotland? ‘Nessie’ for short has been recorded on sonar from a small submarine, described by eyewitnesses, and photographed by others. Nessie appears to be a plesiosaur.”

The KKK Were Actually The Good Guys

“the [Ku Klux] Klan in some areas of the country tried to be a means of reform, fighting the decline in morality and using the symbol of the cross… In some communities it achieved a certain respectability as it worked with politicians.”

The Great Depression Was A Lie Made Up By John Steinbeck

“The Great Depression was exaggerated by propagandists, including John Steinbeck, to advance a socialist agenda.”
