2 Responses to A Trove Of Leaked Documents Reveal How The Wealthy Stash Their Cash Overseas

  1. Greed once again is exposed as the culprit in human affairs and the way we are strongly oriented towards being greedy. Which should make any person who is inclined to take the time and wonder as to why we are here on this planet—and for that matter, ponder why we were created in the first place—to take the time to reflect on the human condition as the early poets and thinkers, such as Emerson, Thoreau, and Luqman–the Ethiopian who was bought as a slave but showed a remarkable ability to perceive deep implications, for which his master freed him in light of Luqman’s abilities. An entire surah in the Qur’an is named after this prescient individual, Baha’u’llah mentions him in some of His Tablets, as an example of a person who thought deeply and inquired into matters not readily apparent.

Greed—is it a quality instilled in humanity on purpose as a test of our ability to discern the value of avoiding greed? This revelation, Trump’s personality, the Western world’s obsession with crass materialism, Russian oligarch’s inordinate greed, and greed as expressed in every culture across the globe, would suggest that the things of the world are both for our enjoyment on.the one hand, and necessary to make progress in this realm. But can also become a trap for the weak-minded and those who become enamored with possessing stuff and as much money as possible.

To test this assumption, we need only refer to two sources(although there are countless others)—one from the Bible, and a short epigram from the Writings of Baha’u’llah.

    1) From the Bible, we have the statement attributed to Jesus in the New Testament which states: “And again I say unto you, It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.” (Matthew 19:24).
    2) And from one of Baha’u’llah’s ‘Hidden Words’, we have the following admonition:
“O SON OF BEING! Busy not thyself with this world, for with fire We test the gold, and with gold We test Our servants.”

Neither of these sayings are intended to mean that we should avoid money, because in another passage, Baha’u’llah talks about how the wealth of a person can lead her/him to be a major positive influence on the well-being of humankind, if she/he acquires that wealth honestly and intends to use it for the betterment of humankind.

Specifically, “…Well is it then with him, who, being rich, is not hindered by his riches from the eternal kingdom, nor deprived by them of imperishable dominion. By the Most Great Name! The splendor of such a wealthy man shall illuminate the dwellers of heaven even as the sun enlightens the people of the earth!” (Hidden Word #53—The ‘Persian’ section).

Baha’u’llah’s further elucidation on this theme is in conformity with the intent and spirit of the verse in Matthew. It’s just that humans today need to be the message in a stronger form, commensurate with our capacity at this stage in human evolution.
