The first casualty of war is truth. The second casualty is civilians.
Jeff Danziger: committed enemy of Israel, Jews, and Zionism; committed friend of Arab terrorists, murderers, and nazis. Always the same. Can’t stand the fact that for the first time starting in 1948 for over 2000 years Jews have a strong army and weapons and will not let themselves be slaughtered by anti-semites…to the dismay of Jeff Danziger.
Seems they can do no wrong, at least in your eyes. I guess it’s time they just nuked the Gaza strip and eliminated the problem, right?
You do know we can be justifiably critical of Israel while still supporting their right to defend themselves, don’t you?
What they did in Gaza is too much. While they profess to take care, they exhibit a reckless and wanton disregard for civilians.
And don’t even get me started about the idiocy and belligerence of settlements in the West Bank.
I support Israel, but I do not support bullies and thugs who kill, displace, and disregard the lives of others (I’m looking at you, too, Cheney)
If you think Israel, the only democracy in that entire region, the only country with free press, free elections, freedom of religion, vigorous political debate, the rule of law, an independent judiciary, is the nation of bullies and thugs and Hamas is the innocent victim then you are a purposeful enemy of Israel regardless of any statement of support. Israel is doing all it can to AVOID civilian casualties; Hamas fights purposely in the midst of civilians; forcibly uses human shields, stores weapons in schools, mosques, and hospitals purposely and has engaged in bloody terror from the day they brutally seized power by murdering their fellow Palestinians from the PA who were the lawful government in Gaza.
This is a war–if terrorists across the border of the US for years indiscriminately lobbed thousands of missiles for the sole purpose of killing Americans..no guidance system in the missile, how do you think this country would react? Perhaps you also bleed for the nazi German civilians killed during WWII in the bombings of Dresden, Hamburg and Berlin? You are a direct AND anti-semitic liar when you accuse Israel of a wanton, reckless disregard of civilian lives..the IDF goes to the extreme of wherever possible WARNING civilians to evacuate. I know your type….you are the hand-wringing people who think its terrible when Jews are murdered en masse but the moment Jews have the military power to defend themselves, out comes your innate anti-semitism. You and your ilk fool nobody and as far as I am concerned Hamas must be exterminated to the last stinking murdering terrorist no matter what it takes.
Please try to pay attention. Go back and read my comment again. Notice where I say that I support Hamas? No? Well, that’s because I don’t. Much of the rest of your comment is based on either a) your fabricated and willful, yet false, belief that I do, or b) your own inability to wrestle with complex issues without resorting to oversimplification.
There is no innate antisemitism here. It is quite possible to support Israel over Hamas, and at the same time support Palestinian independence and condemn Israel for brutal and callous practices, while supporting the state of Israel and Israeli people – which I do. But sometimes, being Israel’s friend means telling them when they’ve crossed the line or are about to.
The world is not black and white, and I support good and innocent people, whatever their color, nationality, or beliefs.
Calling Israel a nation of “bullies and thugs” is anti-semitism in my book. You are very seriously misinformed about the middle east. I would suggest you get from the library an excellent and fairly objective book by an eminent Israeli historian: RIGHT TO EXIST; A Moral Defense of Israel’s Wars by Yaacov Lozowick (Doubleday). Dr. Lozowick was at first relatively sympathetic to the Palestinians..it is a well written and accurate history of the entirety of Israel’s struggle with the Arabs going back to 1917 when the latter launched their first pogrom murdering Jews…30 years before there even was an Israel.
Thanks for the suggestion Elliot, and I will look for the book. However, I maintain that Israel has not always been the nicest or most moral neighbor either. Certainly better than Hamas, but “right” isn’t a sliding scale.
Oh, and I’m not uninformed, I hold a different perspective and opinion, one that allows for what I see as necessary nuance and complexity.
