It seems to me that the stumbling block in every argument is the 2nd Amendment which is held to be a sacred right passed down from God and cannot be tampered with in any way. It puts me in mind of another ‘holy’ text that tells you to stone adulterers to death. Civilized society has managed to move past that ‘God-given’ injunction – why can’t we move past the other? I’m not an American, so I’m not overly familiar with Constitutional Law, but isn’t it possible to modify an amendment to make it more compliant with the times we live in, yet still respect people’s rights?
