WATCH: Gibbs Slams Romney Over Tax Returns

Mitt Romney’s release of his 2011 tax return seems unlikely to stop the Obama campaign’s attacks against his personal finances.

During an appearance on “Fox News Sunday,” Obama campaign adviser Robert Gibbs made it clear that two years of tax returns was not enough to satisfy the campaign’s curiosity.

“He gave his accountant 20 years and the American people two,” Gibbs told host Chris Wallace. “What’s he hiding? Why does he have corporations in Bermuda, investments in the Caymans? Why is somebody who says they’re going to get tough on China investing in the Chinese state oil companies and banks in China?”

“I think that the American people deserve to know a lot more about Mitt Romney’s finances, because he hasn’t been straight with the American people about those finances,” Gibbs continued. “And he hasn’t been straight with the American people about what’s going to happen with their taxes.”

The public appears to side with Gibbs and the Obama campaign on the issue; polls have consistently shown that voters want Romney to release 12 years of tax returns, meeting the standard set by his father George Romney in the 1968 presidential campaign.
