Wishing For A Reagan At A Super Tuesday Precinct

At a Super Tuesday church precinct in Fayetteville, Ga., businessman Glenn Valencia crisply assessed the pros and cons of Republican presidential candidates in a way that could make Mitt Romney swoon.

Rick Santorum: “Christian man, has done well with the common person, but at the end of the day can he beat Obama?” Valencia asked. Newt Gingrich: “Great intellect…. “Hometown guy. But he’s got a lot of baggage.” Ron Paul: No comment.

    Sorry, Republicans, but you would brand Reagan as a “Fellow Traveler” were he active in politics today. All the things you claim he stood for were never borne out in his words and actions. Given today’s political climate, it is unlikely that St. Ronald of Reagan would even win a primary election to run for School Board.
    Oh, and for the record, he raised taxes multiple times, raised the debt limit in order to increase the deficit, and had the second largest growth in the size of the Federal Government under any President other than George W. Bush. Add to that a Cabinet that was undertaking extra-legal activities without his knowledge on a regular basis, and outside of being a great communicator, his Presidency would have been judged a failure based on modern “conservative” standards.
