Colbert Reclaims His Super PAC (Which Raised $1 Million)

Stephen Colbert triumphantly reclaimed his Super PAC from Jon Stewart — who had been watching over it while he flirted with a run for president — Monday night. Check out the video of Colbert chasing Stewart through the streets of New York before seizing his money:

Tuesday, January 31st was the FEC filing deadline, meaning Colbert has to disclose his fundraising totals (unlike 501(4)(c) independent groups, Super PACs do have to reveal their donors). He used the occasion to mock the election regulators:

Dear Sirs and Sirettes,

Americans for a Better Tomorrow, Tomorrow (ABTT) would like it entered into the record that as of January 30th, 2012, the sum total of our donations was $1,023,121.24.

Stephen Colbert, President of ABTT, has asked that I quote him as saying, ”Yeah! How you like me now, F.E.C? I’m rolling seven digits deep! I got 99 problems but a non-connected independent-expenditure only committee ain’t one!”

I would like it noted for the record that I advised Mr. Colbert against including that quote.

Sincerely,
Shauna Polk
Treasurer, Americans for a Better Tomorrow, Tomorrow, Inc.

Some noteworthy contributors: former President Jimmy Carter and California Lt. Governor Gavin Newsom. Cynical ploys to earn another appearance on the show, or genuine support from members of the Colbert Nation?
