Debate Fallout: Even Conservatives Are Appalled By Republican Mendacity

Share

For people who so often accuse Hillary Clinton of lying, the Republican presidential candidates seem to feel perfectly free to bend, twist, and shred the truth at will. Unsurprisingly, that is just what several of them were caught doing in their free-for-all CNBC debate. They prevaricated about themselves, their policies, and their opponents, without blinking an eye – and for the most part, they got away with it.

Do nice people tell self-serving lies? Perhaps they do, because it was terribly nice Ben Carson who uttered one of the most blatant whoppers of the evening.

To loud booing from the partisan audience, moderator Carl Quintanilla asked the soft-spoken neurosurgeon about his long and lucrative involvement with Mannatech, a nutritional supplement manufacturer that has been cited for false health claims for its “glyconutrients.” (How bad was Mannatech? Bad enough to provoke a fraud action brought by Greg Abbott, the former Texas attorney general who is now that state’s very conservative governor.)

“I didn’t have an involvement with [Mannatech],” retorted Carson. “That is total propaganda, and this is what happens in our society. Total propaganda.”

What Carson’s noisy fans probably didn’t know is that this was no “liberal media” setup. The doctor’s decade-long relationship with Mannatech – which turns out to have included a written contract, paid speeches, and a video endorsement on the company’s website – was exposed last year by Jim Geraghty of National Review, the flagship publication of American conservatism. Following the debate, Geraghty slammed Carson for “bald-faced lies” and “blatantly lying” about his relationship with the supplement firm.

Equally mendacious about his own personal history was Marco Rubio, who “won” the debate according to many observers. When Becky Quick of CNBC asked a predictable question about his checked financial affairs, which have included foreclosures, liquidations, phony expense accounts, and other embarrassments, the senator from Florida shot back: “You just listed a litany of discredited attacks from Democrats and my political opponents, and I’m not gonna waste 60 seconds detailing them all.”

Discredited attacks? Actually, Quick’s question was premised on facts that are not in dispute – as even Rubio himself acknowledged in his own campaign book. So frontally deceptive was his response that an outraged Joe Scarborough, his fellow Florida Republican, called him out on MSNBC’s Morning Joe the next day.

“Marco just flat-out lied to the American people there,” Scarborough complained. “And I was stunned that the moderators didn’t stop there and go, ‘Wait a second, these are court records. What are you talking about?…Becky was telling the truth, Marco was lying. And yet everybody’s going, ‘Oh, Marco was great.’ No, Marco lied about his financials.” Not incidentally, Rubio also lied about the effects of his tax plan, claiming his tax cuts would mostly benefit lower-income families when in fact its biggest benefits would accrue to the top one percent, as Republican tax schemes almost always do.

Another brand of lie was pronounced by Carly Fiorina, who drew attention at the last GOP debate by insisting she had watched a grisly Planned Parenthood video that doesn’t exist. This time, she reached back to the 2012 Republican campaign to invent a factoid about women’s employment.

Fiorina tries to sell herself as the candidate tough enough to take down Clinton, and tries to prove it by making stuff up. At this debate, she huffed:

It is the height of hypocrisy for Mrs. Clinton to talk about being the first woman president, when every single policy she espouses and every single policy of President Obama has been demonstratively bad for women. Ninety-two percent of the jobs lost during Barack Obama’s first term belonged to women.

But as PolitiFact quickly established, that statement was false in every particular. Not only did women not lose “92 percent” of the jobs in Obama’s first term, the number of women employed during the period from January 2009 to January 2013 grew by 416,000. Naturally, as she did with Planned Parenthood, Fiorina angrily repeated the lie when challenged.

Fiorina isn’t the only Republican who doesn’t like being exposed. Rubio ridiculously claimed that the “mainstream media” is really a Democratic SuperPAC. And now RNC chair Reince Priebus has reneged on the party’s debate agreement with NBC News. He and his candidates just couldn’t handle two hours of sharp but thoroughly polite questioning.

They constantly insult Clinton, but how would any of these slippery blowhards survive something like the 11-hour Benghazi grilling she breezed through on Capitol Hill? If you want to understand who they are, just listen to them whine.

Our media have lost their teeth, their brains AND their BALLS!! Call these liars OUT, when they lie… The entire Republican bran has become an Orwellian soup of doublespeak, lies and propaganda.

The FACTS prove them to be liars, yet they blithely sail along, unimpeded by having to answer easy questions truthfully.

You apparently have no idea just how far right the GOP has gone – to the point of being absolute fascists!! True conservativeism is only a concept that the vast majority of Republicans claim to believe in, but actually have totally forgotten the meaning of that term. Most true conservatives would be banned from today’s GOP.

Yes, I do. Measured at Politifact, the two Dem candidates’ and 10 of the GOP candidates’ truthiness factors:

      Bernie 73.5%
      Hillary 70.7%
      Kasich 68.5%
      Jeb! 68.3%
      Paul 67.4%
      Christie 66.0%
      Rubio 60.9%
      Fiorina 50.0%
      Huckabee 50.0%
      Cruz 33.3%
      Trump 25.4%
      Carson 18.8%

Their claims about Democrats lying, such as claiming that President Obama lied because he did not know that less than 1% of policy holders had substandard healthcare policies and had to upgrade them to comply with the ACA’s minimum standards of coverage, are designed to give the impression that lying is commonplace, and to deflect attention from their personal and official records.

Not a single Republican – anywhere – since Richard Nixon has told the truth. Every last one of them has lied to the American people. There are probably more before Nixon — Stevenson comes to mind — but it seems to be a policy of the Republican party to just lie your way out of any problem. I’ve been wanting to blame the moderators, but have realized nothing could possibly be accomplished in a two hour time frame with 15 candidates. It’s a waste of voter’s time. If you like your insurance plan you can keep it. President Obama
For months our President told us this lie in order to get support for his signature health care plan. Obviously he will say anything to get what he wants.
Benghazi was a spontaneous attack brought on by a video. Secretary Clinton
During the recent hearing it was positively shown that the Secretary was fully aware the attack was planned immediately yet she stuck with the video lie for weeks.
If the MSM is gong to accuse GOP candidates lying during a debate it makes one wonder when they will go into outrage mode over these two examples.

If you like your insurance plan you can keep it, provided the insurance company YOU have chosen meets the across the board standards all insurance companies have to meet under ACA rules. If yours chose not to, then no you couldn’t keep it. That is the fault of the insurance company, if you couldn’t keep it. I kept my insurance policy because my insurance company met the standards.
Oh brother, you’re really digging for example aren’t you? LMAO
You have no proof that video did not influence the attacks. Why? Because no one can say what inspired them for each individual involved. The entire “scandal” surrounding Benghazi was an invention of the right. None of the prior attacks under any other president has been given a thought or bothered the right in the least.
There’s pages of lies the GOP has told to keep their flock in line . Those lies are to evoke feeling and fear because facts would not have done so.
Candidates for the highest office in the land coming out the gate lying lets everyone know it’s how they do business and they have absolutely no qualms about it.

Obama – You can keep your insurance – however didn’t that refer to those plans that were not garbage policies..
Benghazi – I would think during and immediately following it was complete chaos, you know a state of complete confusion and disorder: Not to mention the other events taking place throughout the Middle East simultaneously. Haven’t authorities said the intelligence reports were continually being supplied, analysed and changing by the intelligence community? What has been proven in these investigations is Congress needs to fund the security for our Embassies and Consulates with whatever it takes, we should not rely on host countries to protect our personnel and property, we need to upgrade all our brick and mortar and we really need to improve the working of our intelligence community and how they share information and report information.

Obama was not responsible for insurance companies changing or dropping their plans. They do it every year. What he was saying, for those that didn’t understand, is that you could keep your plan as long as the insurance companies allowed you to keep it. The government did not take over the insurance companies but did mandate that they sell the same thing so that people could compare the costs from each company knowing that each was offering the same minimum covered benefits.
I had many insurance companies drop of change the plan I had every year.in fact a few times the company went bankrupt and the government had to take over until they could get another company to honor the policies..

All you had to do was ask the insurance company when they told you yours was going to change. Written right into the law was an opt-out clause that required the InsCos to keep YOUR policy in place if YOU called them on it. There’s that damned PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY thing again. Seems like the GOP and conservatives just can’t do it.

As others have pointed out, Obama did not lie about being able to keep your doctor and policy. The ACA legislation GRANDFATHERED IN all existing policies. It was the CEOs of more than 1/2 a dozen health insurers who had lied to Obama.

During the development of ACA more than 1/2 a dozen health insurer CEOs met with Obama and promised him that they would abide by the ACA legislation which grandfathered in their existing policies. But as has been pointed out, private sector health insurers routinely cancelled policies at the end of each year, so they could adjust rates and actually drop people who were costing them too much money.

On top of that, ACA gave health insurers the opportunity to scam the people they insured by claiming that they were cancelling their policies to comply with the ACA guidelines, which ACA did not require, just so they could foist people into more expensive policies – and many did this without informing their insureds that they could shop for cheaper policies on the health insurance exchanges. A number of health insurers, including Humana, ended up having to pay millions in fines for the fraud they were perpetrating on their customers.

And with respect to Benghazi, why is it that everyone is ignoring the fact that the mastermind of the attack HAS IN FACT STATED THAT IN THE BEGINNING HIS MAJOR INTENTION FOR MAKING THE ATTACK ON THE CONSULATE – WAS IN FACT THE ANTI ISLAMIC VIDEO!! WAKE UP, THE VIDEO WAS IN FACT THE ORIGINAL DRIVER OF THE ATTACK ACCORDING TO THE GUY WHO MASTERMINDED THE ATTACK!!

You make a sound argument on both counts but you’ll never convince the pointless sleepers who take they’re info from the same organizations who are lying to everyone. They criticize liberals who have compared both their St. Raygun and that twit Dubya to what they’re accusing Obama of, saying that was then and this is now yet they totally over look both the crimes and misdemeanors of their current leaders by comparing lies thus giving the impression that if one lies (that has always backed up on them) then it’s totally acceptable for the other side to lie instead of becoming angry at both. They will never believe you’re truths, you’re facts no matter how much you upper case (yell) it out for them. Lying is a crutch for the weak minded, to become a successful liar you first must..

Yes it does matter. When the right does it with regularity then projects it on the left to meet their twisted agenda, it matters.
I think each time the right has done so, the left should have made a news worthy correction. There’s been too much silence on that front. It’s time we call them on all of it.
The facts on Carson are out there and should be repeated and forwarded over and over. He can call it anything he wants. Facts remain facts.

We do not have prove they do the most, only convince the press it is alright to confront them on it.

The question “should” be: Why isn’t there a political fact checker at each debate?

The answer is the truth is not what is sought or valued in American politics. The people who finance campaigns don’t care about the truth. The people how are the most well off don’t care about the truth as long as it is their guy telling the lies. Not even most of the voters care about the truth unless it is the other party that is lying!

Lying is acceptable behavior in the pursuit and retention of power. People all throughout time and still, all over the world equate a political career with lying!

The fact checkers are a recent element in our politics and they do illuminate the most egregious of liars but again most people don’t care because of their bias.

I think we can add all the fact checkers we want–and I would like to add them, but it won’t affect much until people value the truth and arrest their biases

Lastly, if we don’t sanitize our politics SOON, we might have one or two more generations before a remarkable violence and social upheaval make us look like Syria!!!!

In Syria, and many other places like that we find the government (what passes for leadership) was so oppressive and biased towards the King and the people so insecure that it became the perfect vessel for destruction from with in: The young able body men are fleeing rather than fight for the country because there is NO HONOR in the leadership.

That could happen here if our leaders CONTINUE to disregard us!

When government acts in America the most well off benefit the most or suffer the least and that is our current situation: especially under republican leadership. When republicans say they want the government out of their lives that is how they bid for a greater client government–as Bush Cheney demonstrated.

If republicans get what they wish for they won’t feel safe in their beds at night!

There have never been a shortage of dishonest politicians, but when all of the top presidential candidates of a party are caught telling multiple lies and continue to keep repeating them – that party is in big trouble. It may work for their followers, but when they get to the actual contest – it is just not going to cut it. Gerrymandering does not work for the Presidential election. It is amazing, but we are actually watching the Republican party implode.

I only have one Qua-draped left and it has accumulated 8000 miles. We owned a custom bicycle shop for 3.5 years and only sold custom built cycles. At one time we were the second largest seller of tandems in the country. We also specialized in recumbent cycles. My wifes full air suspension titanium nudged 17 lbs it also cost nearly $400.00 a pound. We had a full suspension tandem and in Utah after pedaling up a mountain we thought it would be fun going down. After hitting over 70 miles an hour because we could not stop we had to get new saddles. I am to old now to cycle but I do miss it.

We bought frames from a lot of custom builders. My wife bike was a specially built bike just for her and at 5′ 2” that took some doing.. It was a dual front and rear air suspension boulder. Our racing team used them and won most of the races in the Washington Oregon area. Our top racer won a 100 mile bike race in the mountains. He said the suspension let him go down hill a lot faster and kept him from getting so tired. We sold merlin but they weren’t all that special. The minimum build had to be over a 1000 dollars but they were usually 2 to 4 K. The custom tandems were more costly. This all happened back in the mid 90’s. I will have to lookup Madone and waterford they were after my time.

You live off MY tax dollars every time you get your butt on that bike on one of the roads MY taxes pay for. Since I live in one of those Dems states that gets a lousy 55 cents for the $1 we pay and federal taxes and your states is eating up anywhere from $1.35 to 1.87 for the taxes YOU barely pay, I’d say your big mouth and bigger butt is all you have to show off your balls.

Try again shitforbrains. Your swaggering, drawling, shitkicker BS is not impressing anyone but yourself.

As for booze, You and Jack Daniels have been pals since your teens. Get sober before you post any more of your narrow minded right wing BS. You live in a society where you get as much as you give. With a mouth like yours, ISIS would love you to join them. Get to it.

PS …I divorced him the minute I realized he’d been a boozer since his teens. Sorry if I don’t fit your ideas those big boom b. big haired, tattooed women you pick up in bars. I have an education. I don’t need booze. That’s the difference between a dipshit like you and good mental health.

Do you even know how to read? The taxes we pay for infrastructure are partially funded by both the federal and state government.

No..you don’t pay more taxes than I do asshat…I live in NJ. Ours are the highest taxes in the US.

Illinois is at the top of the Dem states who get more than 55 cents. Sorry moron, but check the GAO. NY, NJ, MA, CT, NH and VT all get an average of 55 cents for each dollar we pay in taxes. You Corn Pones in the midwest also get tax subsidies for your Agri-Industries to the tune of $50 billion a year.

Shut mouth and get an education.

First thought you were talking about the disparity that State take in as opposed to what they paying taxes. Not what you personally paying taxes. Now I live in Illinois we enjoy the highest sales tax in the nation as well as the second highest property taxes in the nation is the state. Here in Chicago rom just raised the property taxes to record high levels so I’m sure that my property taxes and my sales tax is far exceeds yours. And you’re so stupid did not realize the only reason some red State get more and tax dollars is because they have military bases in those states dumbass go back to your booze

Wrong. NJ pays the highest property taxes in the country. That’s been in every US tax roll record for more than 2 decades. My property tax rate is nearly $3.10 per sq. ft. So, in 2014, my 3/4 acre, 3-bedroom, 1200 sq. ft. home cost nearly $5,300 in property taxes.

It’s about damn time your property taxes were raised. I’m happy Rom raised them. I hope he raises them until you are paying exactly what NY, NJ, CT, MA, NJ, VT and RI are paying. I hope he taxes hell out of a bigass big mouth like you. I hope your property taxes go through the roof of that McMansions. That way, you can start paying your fair share instead of sponging off those of us working harder than you ever have or will.

Thats funny because I was paying 6300 on a house with no garage in Logan Sq Chicago way back in 2006 and the current owners added a garage their assessment went up and they now pay 15000/ yr …Of course all of this is before Rahms new property tax hike that was necessitated by all of the Public Union pension debt ..And all his Tax hikes are doing is forcing productive tax payers out of the city as well as jobs .. Thats why all the jobs are going to Texas …Illinois as a State is second in out migration and Chicago as a City is first in out migration for Citys over 1 million…Yes the Democrats are doing for Chicago what they did for Detroit …So it looks like you lost another argument because I pay more than my fair share and so does everyone else who lives in Democrat States…

You have problems with “The Big Guy in the Sky”? (Whatever or whoever that is). I don’t know of a big guy in the sky. That’s a bygone, man-made concept that was appropriate for people centuries ago who needed a metaphor to help them understand that which is unknowable

In this era of more maturity(although circumstance seem to contradict that expectation) the thought of imagining a “Guy in the Sky” puts you in a position of being greater than that “Guy” because what you imagine is confined to your mind which then makes you greater than that image. That may be too hard for you to wrap your head around but give it some thought.

In summary: Whatever you can envision renders it finite. The infinite can’t be encompassed.

The corruption that has overtaken our Legislature with the leagues of lobbyists, and business experts with their teams of lawyers has reached obscene proportions.

    ENOUGH!!!

$$$Money$$$ for influence in our sacred legislature has so corrupted our representative republic that now, the interest of the vast majority (aka: the middle class or “we the people”) has become a mere after-thought (if it is given any thought at all) for consideration in our current GOP.

Policy, from the repeal of The Glass-Steagall Act (Gramm, Leach, Bliley) that separated Commercial Banks from Security Firms, to the current tax code that favors wealthy millionaires, billionaires and corporations over “we the people” that make up the vast middle class, to Free Trade Agreements that have exchanged USA working class jobs in exchange for larger Wall Street and Corporate gains, to Citizens United vs. FEC that has corrupted our sacred representative democratic elections in favor of an Oligarchy that represents $$$MONEYED$$$ special interest.

That the GOP has turned its back on the interests of “we the people” as well as that of the United States of America as a whole, while demonizing everything USA government, in favor of $$$moneyed, special interest$$$ is becoming all too clear.

The divisive, disingenuous, and down-right deceptive rhetoric used to create a false narrative about their “heart-felt pain” for “we the people” and our “hard-earned tax dollars” they are fighting so hard to keep the “Big Bad Government” from “stealing…,” even as they funnel every cent they can into the coffers of “multinational” corporations, the Banks, and The Wall Street financial sector, leaving same “hard working tax payers” they have hoodwinked and abandoned on the hook for the $$$Hundreds of BILLIONS in corporate tax breaks and other favors they legislated into law.

When the jig is finally up, the GOP will not be trusted to haul our garbage. Hopefully, by then, it’s not too late to repair the damage…

It would seem to me if a moderator is going to ask a direct question as to any specific remark or writings a candidate has made, that clearly SHOULD BE QUESTIONED AND EXPLAINED, he should be armed with the actual article, writing, or video showing what was said, like Tim Russet used to do…..NOW that is a gotcha “truthful” question, but it’s was and should be that these clowns lies get’um………I knew Trump was lying because I had already read what he was questioned about, and not at all surprised when he lied, so typical of him and he did it with such ease…. When Fiorina’s mouth is moving she is lying about something easily provable to the contrary and that could also be more than easily said about Ted Cruz, he is a liar’s liar….. he lies with great conviction……and I don’t really believe it matters how many lies Cruz utters as he panders to his fanatical base. They love what spews from his hateful demagogue’s mouth, the more outrageous the better. That which most discerning Americans saw coming from afar in earlier stages of years gone by is now coming into clearer focus for the majority to see.
However, large sections of America will refuse to admit what their outer eyes see, and will proceed on the assumption that nothing new about the divisive campaign of the Right has been shown and that there is no need for concern about the nefarious affairs of a political wing that persists, and insists, on driving a wedge between Americans.

What is your definition of dividing? Is governing from a stand-point of striving to show concern for all Americans more divisive than a policy aimed primarily at “trickle-down” economics, or similar voodoo policies,
which maintain the widening the gulf between the rich and poor, between blacks and whites? The latter strategy since the 60’s has been the primary modus operandi of a particular party that even you should be able to clearly identify.

If this isn’t clear, then nothing will shake the cobwebs from your eyes and mind.

No one doubts the wealth of the country. It’s just that you utterly fail to understand that most oligarchs got their wealth as a result of taking advantage of cheap labor of European indentured servants first, tried to force the Native Americans to be their slaves(a failed attempt) then transitioned to the use of slavery to work the cotton, tobacco, and sugar plantations in the early centuries.
Thus capitalism got its sordid and dubious start as an economic model.
But you’re not an idiot and already knew all of that, right??

Hmm, i’m not sure why slavery is something you decided to bring into the conversation. Slavery ended in the 1860’s. I’m a native American and I know what role we played in this country. The fact is since the early 1900s the US because of capitalism has created more wealth, and innovation then any other country. As a result of that we are the most generous country on earth. Your not an idiot right? You know that right? You do also know that without the US Germany or Japan or the soviets or even China would already rule the world. Btw,you do know that it was the Black’s in Africa that started the slave trade right? Most of the wealth in this country was created through innovation, which created opportunity and jobs. No Willy. I read history books. I just don’t read history books written by unadulterated biased ideologues, nor do I obtain my history from FOX news or talk-shows. Those outlets are for those who abhor the thought of reading beyond the headlines or who rely solely on sound-bites. Are you in that category??

First off Obama and the left have supported rhetoric and agendas that are totally divisive . Obama has worked tirelessly through his choice of words to divide this Nation on Race …They have undone everything Dr King worked for and set Race relations back 70 years . They have divided on religion on class on gender ..asThe list is long . And income inequality was at a low point in trickle down days ( which itself Iis a term made up by Liberals ) . Now it is under obamanomics that we have seen income disparity grow at its fastest and greatest rate . The rich have had their portfolios enrichened by the QE policies of the Fed ..And Obamacare has decimated the middle class just as it was designed to do . The part time exemption has caused most large employers to transition people from full time benefitted position to part time with no benefits …But now those people qualuify for SNAP and EBT and also Free Obama plans . This is born out by Dept Labor Statistics showing a workforce with the largest percentage of part time workers as well as the greatest number of them in this Nations history . This is proven and backed up by average yearly incomes being down $4000 to $5000 / year . This is also backed up by the doubling of those in poverty and food stamps . We have gone from 27 million to 49 million on food stamps

Let’s have the same questions asked of both Dem candidates and Republican candidates without moderators framing their questions with their own Liberal bias …Oh I know I’m dreaming the Den candidates would never go for that

I suggest you extricate your head from your rectum. There were no winners in that “debate”, but the loser was the American electorate. If I was a praying man, I would be praying for a Hillary matchup with Cruz. Just reciting a litany of his statements and his associations, she would mop the floor with him. After his ignominious defeat, the far right can splinter off into a rump party, throughly isolated from the rest of us who want to move forward.

We can only hope the FBI retrieves those emails she wiped ” like with a cloth or something ” because the ones she didn’t wipe already show what a liar she is …Did you know she took Sniper fire at that airport ? Well you can confiscate the total wealth of everybody in this country making over $250,000 a year and you will end up with about 4 trillion dollars that would fund the federal government for nine months under current Obama socialist spending levels. The reason you can’t use the same questions for the Democrat candidates as the Republican candidates is that the Democrats are having the “adult” debates about things that are actually important to the country, and ignoring ignorant right wing leading Fox News talking points like: Who would build the bigger wall? Who would go the furthest to defund Planned Parenthood?

These are the sort of questions the kindergarten clownidates on the “All entertainment no substance” stage are answering and arguing over.

Sorry to see you go for the delusions of those idiots who stood up and blatantly lied about almost everything, then whined “gotcha” when asked reasonable questions. You think the Fox News team was too liberal? They did, because to their credit, those people occasionally followed up or challenged an answer. Yes, Ted Cruz was right about the triviality of some of the questions, but he should appreciate that if they asked more serious ones, he and his colleagues would have lied even more flagrantly and obviously. Guess you didn’t read that part about how the National Review’s columnist who documented Carson’s relationship with the supplements company and pointed out that his answer was a “bald-faced lie.”
Hillary may not be a pretty sight: she is neither the liberal I want nor the saint you seem to demand of the Dems, while accepting liars, thugs, morons, and the certifiable as GOP candidates, but compared to the GOP loonies, she looks damned good.

Fair enough, so long as the person isn’t simply someone who considers himself better versed, or is better versed in lies about the subject. Certainly, delusional may be thrown about a bit too much in individual cases, but it’s hard to resist when the target appears to buy into the delusions and / or lies of others. More importantly, intolerance as I and most others here understand it is usually an attempt to punish a dissenter, usually using the force of law or extra-legal threats. I’m sure you disagree, but in my experience this is far more characteristic of the right at this time, while the other form you mention – to the extent it exists – is more characteristic of the left. And most people from the right here talking about intolerance are just projecting their own on others because their cause has been hurt by their actual intolerance of either or both types in an attempt to mitigate the legitimate charge against themselves.
It’s much like the charge of “gotcha” questions which are in fact questions the candidate would much rather not answer – honestly, at least – and usually would prefer potential voters wouldn’t think about. I said that the specific items Ted Cruz cited that I heard were petty and insulting, and are pretty typical of the modern media: not the “liberal” media, but the media. My recollection is that even Newt Gingrich admitted that all the talk about the liberal media was mostly just “gaming the refs.” Actual facts showed – last I heard – that over 80% of the “experts” consulted on ALL channels were from conservative think tanks. It shopuld also not be necessary to point out that CNBC – the most recent of the targets of such accusations – was mostly all-Monica all the time back when that was the thing, and – from what little I’ve seen since – is very far from a “liberal” network, not to mention that liberalism is largely dead in America aside from a few marginalized individuals and small groups. Bernie Sanders may make a splash now, but in the extremely unlikely event that he gets the nomination, his electoral results are likely to emulate George McGovern’s and should he by some miracle become president, he is likely to spend four unhappy years getting support from virtually no one in Congress. Bill and Hillary Clinton are about as moderate conservative as they come, and – despite all the hysteria – Barack Obama isn’t much more adventurous. Think what you like, but don’t come here reciting GOP talking points and saying nasty things about “liberals” and expect a friendly and respectful reception. We have only so much tolerance for the lies and arrogance of the GOP and their attempts to LEGALLY silence and punish those who disagree with them.

Why do you think there’s always a massive wave of panic about “liberty” and “freedom” every time a Dem wins the presidency? The GOP is terrified the Dems will use all the unConstitutional crap the GOP rammed through when they were in power against them, plus all the other illegal and legality-stretching dirty tricks the GOP uses routinely.

The crowd roared their approval last election when the moderator suggested people without insurance should be simply allowed to die rather than treated, and they haven’t gotten any better in four years. It’s revealing that two of the three people you picked to cite as “taking those…to the shed” are among the most dishonest, petty, and spiteful of the lot, and Rubio’s no saint.
Even the GOP clowns claimed the Fox people were biased; why should the Dems prove it for them?

I regret to see that you seem to think government decisions of life or death should be based on male insecurity, there are WAY too many people who have already shown themselves to be of this childish inclination.

You have two “Latino” senators, one of which wrote an immigration bill and then backed off and voted against it because he hadnm’t the courage to stand against the bigots in the party. You have a female CEO who ran her company into the ground, shipped the jobs she didn’t eliminate overseas, and lies about it non-stop. You have a highly-successful blowhard who promises paradise and other impossibles when he’s not talking about how great he is or insulting his competitors. I’m sure he’d do really well with a man like Putin and the Chinese president. He might negotiate us a double-deal: war with both of them. Finally, you have a “real” African American who may be brilliant in his field, but is incredibly dishonest when he’s not being so completely incoherent and self-contradictory that one is hard-pressed to figure out what he’s talking about, never mind whether it’s true or not.
None of your candidates is under investigation because it’s self-evident most of them are too dumb to pull anything worth the effort, and many of the people in the Justice Department were appointed illegally by Bush’s little plant from Liberty University – they certainly exercise a LOT of liberty with the facts – and the others are intimidated by the lunatics who “oversee” them in Congress.

And there you go demeaning a woman who rose from the typing pool to become CEO of one of the greatest companies in the World ..wow …

Actually the media is not that liberal, it’s all owned by big corporations. But if the republican presidential candidates want something to complain about it should be the amount of time each has on TV. Seems like every news broadcast features something about Trump–where are the rest of the R-candidates? Why aren’t they getting equal time to express their opinions?? Is this fair? Is every candidate going to get the opportunity to appear as a SNL host? The media gives more time to Trump than any other candidate, seems like he’s their man and they are pushing him on the electorate.

I don’t think the MSM are purposefully pushing Trump, but he’s the most outrageous, so naturally the media spotlight is going to shine on him. The rest of the GOP clowns should be thankful for Trump, because if it wasn’t for him, no one would be watching these so-called “debates”. They are all losers.

The “liberal media” spiel is an old lie built up like plaque on bad teeth. Media is built on ratings and dollars. That is why news folks are so easily misled.

Full marks. That is a wonderfully put together summary.

Personally I’d love to see any of those compulsive liars put through an 11 hour investigation into their pasts.
I don’t think any of them would last five minutes.

Actually the 11 hours was just Mrs Clinton’s own interrogation.
The investigation (smear campaign) has been going on for well over 2 years.
I’m a Sanders supporter. I think that Hillary Clinton will pull the now traditional) DNC bait & switch, (running as a progressive in the primaries, but triangulating to the center for the general election, and actually governing somewhere to the RIGHT of Richard Nixon if she’s elected)
Even with all that, if she wins the Democratic nomination over Senator Sanders, I WILL vote for her in the general election, because she’s still better than the Republican alternative

Hillary Clinton has been a liberal in all respects since her college days, like most of us with the same experience. I have no clue where you got this nonsense, but nonsense it is. She is more liberal than Barack Obama based on her record, her platform, and her utterances. The old DNC bait and switch is a figment of your imagination.

You’re the one writing nonsense; Bernie Sanders is probably the only liberal to run for president since Walter Mondale, and Mondale was vice-president to one of the most conservative Democrats since the party switched from the racist, pro-slavery party of the Civil War era. Bill and Hillary Clinton would easily fit as moderates in the Republican Party of saner times, before it discovered it could gain power by welcoming the racists and other right-wing lunatics; in most respects, so could the “communist socialist” Barack Obama. You’re just too used to “conservative” being applied to people from whom even Barry Goldwater would recoil in horror and disgust; only that could explain how you could label Hillary a “liberal.”

If you are saying that Hillary Clinton is not a liberal, we have nothing else to discuss. I talk to crazy people for a living, but this is too much.

Maybe you should go back to talking to the lunatics who constitute your peer group rather than criticizing those who have the brains and knowledge to disagree with you.

Your fingers are attached to your brain, directly, what you type says very plainly who you are, how well you exercise reason, who you think you are, and your capacity for critical thinking. I know who your peer group is, and I know you better than you would be comfortable with. Live with it.

Bernie can do what he has always done, sit on the sidelines kvetching at the top of his lungs. Hillary is now, and always has been, a liberal. And what the hell would you know about Barry Goldwater anyway? Or the republican party before Nixon smooched the racists?

Don’t think you should make assumptions about your fellow posters without some kind of evidence. I know plenty about Barry Goldwater and about moderate Republicans, despite the fact that both are now extinct.
