Everyone Needs To See Bill Clinton Make The Case Against Gun Violence — In 1993

In 1993, newly elected President Clinton was making a case for a sweeping crime bill that enacted the Brady Bill on background checks, an assault weapon ban and put 100,000 police officers on the street. Watch this speech he gave the Memphis Church of God and you may think he’s talking about the violence on the streets of Chicago today.

Clinton’s reforms were put into law.

Though it may have cost Democrats the Congress, the violent crime rate, which peaked the year the laws went into effect, was nearly cut in half by the end of Clinton’s second term.
