Ivanka Trump’s Flammable Scarves Yet Another Trump Product Not Made In America

The New York Times reported last night that Ivanka Trump’s line of scarves has been recalled by the Consumer Product Safety Commission after failing to meet fire safety standards. While no injuries have been reported in connection to the apparently highly flammable scarves thus far, the CPSC told consumers via its recall notice that they should

immediately stop using the recalled scarves and return them to the place where purchased for a full refund. Consumers who purchased the scarves online will be contacted directly by online retailers with return instructions.

The scarves were manufactured in China, as are many Trump-branded products, despite Donald Trump’s insistence that he would bring American manufacturing jobs back home. As Trump has repeated countless times during his presidential run, “We’re losing all over the world with trade deals. Every country. No matter what country you talk about, you can just pick a name out of a hat, they’re beating us in trade.”

On the campaign trail, Trump has denounced China with an obsessive fervor, and yet still manufactures Trump-branded clothing and other apparel in China and elsewhere overseas.

“I talk about my ties in speeches. I’m open. I say my ties many times are made in China,” Trump told CNN in July. “It’s very hard to have apparel made in this country.”

A recent PBS report found that none of Ivanka Trump’s 628 products were produced exclusively in the United States.
