GM Attemping to Revamp Bureaucracy

From replacing non-qwerty keyboards to killing production of the Hummer, Mary Barra, head of vehicle development for GM, is looking to send a “shock” through that company’s “famously plodding corporate culture.” At a recent meeting with employees in Milford, MI, Barra listened to complaints that GM was “too slow to adopt new technologies” and “wasn’t focused enough on quality,” and assured the people in attendance that that was about to change. Vice Chairman Bob Lutz praised Barra, saying “she’s got good judgement, great common sense and she doesn’t put up with any BS.” This self-proclaimed shake-up could help restart the production of new vehicles for the automaker.
