#EndorseThis: Colbert Praises Trump’s Good Behavior In UK — ‘Like A Dog’

Stephen Colbert offers a pungent recap of Trump’s state visit to the UK — including his strange side trip to the VIP lounge at Ireland’s Shannon Airport for a photo-op with the Taoiseach, Leo Varadkar.

Much went wrong, of course, but even more could have — which was why Sky TV chat host Piers Morgan rather sycophantically praised the Trump for his “good behavior” around the Queen.

“Is this what we’ve sunk to?” cries Colbert. “We’re complimenting the president for good behavior like he’s a…like he’s a dog?”

Well, yes. Click and wince.

At Meeting With Ireland’s Taoiseach, Trump Promotes His Irish Golf Course

Trump on Wednesday turned a photo-op with the prime minister of Ireland into an infomercial for one of his money-losing golf properties.

It was yet another brazen attempt by Trump to try to profit off his presidency.

“I’ll be leaving from Doonbeg,” Trump told reporters in Ireland of his plans to travel to Normandy, France, on Thursday morning to commemorate the 75th anniversary of D-Day.

Doonbeg is a Trump golf property in Ireland that is currently operating at a loss, losing $100,000 in 2018, according to the Irish Times.

“I love to come to Ireland and stay at Doonbeg,” Trump added — throwing in a nice little promotion for the property.

Trump initially wanted to meet with Irish Taoiseach Leo Varadkar at his Doonbeg golf course, and threatened to cancel a visit to the country if Varadkar refused to meet him there.

The meeting with Varadkar ultimately took place at an airport in Ireland, and Trump will simply travel alone to his golf property and stay there overnight.

Trump often tries to stay at properties he owns when traveling around the country and the globe. And when he does so, it means the U.S. government is putting money into Trump’s own pockets.

One reporter at Wednesday’s photo-op with Trump and Varadkar specifically asked if Trump only traveled to Ireland in order to promote the club.

Trump claimed he hadn’t, and that he simply wanted to travel to Ireland because it was “very important” because of the “relationship” he has with the Irish people.

Gallup: British Disapproval Of Trump At 64 Percent — Before He Landed

Gallup: British Disapproval Of Trump At 64 Percent — Before He Landed

Trump loves to claim that the U.S. is “respected again” after he took office.

But a Gallup poll shows the exact opposite.

As soon as former President Barack Obama left office and Trump was sworn in, Britons’ disapproval of American leadership skyrocketed.

During his last year in office in 2016, 59 percent of Britons approved of Obama, while 32 percent disapproved.

Those numbers more or less flipped in 2017, the year Trump was inaugurated, with just 33 percent of Britons approving of Trump and 63 percent64 Pe disapproving.

In 2018, Trump’s approval rating plummeted even more, with 26 percent of Britons approving of American leadership and 64 percent disapproving.

In fact, Trump’s dismal 26 percent approval rating among Britons is even lower than his 31 percent approval rating worldwide, according to Gallup.

Such dismal approval numbers paint a good picture for why tens of thousands of Brits took to the streets to protest Trump’s state visit.

Armed with pithy signs and a massive balloon depicting Trump as a baby, the protesters turned out in force to tell Trump he is not welcome in their country.

Trump doesn’t seem to be taking his cold reception very well.

Rather than let the protests roll off his back, he took the ridiculous route of claiming that the throngs of people protesting him don’t actually exist.

It’s a fake narrative that Fox News was happy to play along with.

In all, Trump’s trip to the U.K. has been a major flop.

Aside from the protests, Trump has received negative headlines for everything from bringing his children along for the state visit when they weren’t invited, to the fact that he was snubbed by a British politician he endorsed to be the next prime minister of the U.K.

What a fail.
