I hope nobody is surprised by Donald Trump’s popularity in his home state, and in much of the country. Between our love affair with celebrities, the free media he has enjoyed throughout his campaign, his anti-establishment rhetoric, and the highly effective use of fear and prejudice, what would have been surprising would be a Cruz or Kasich win. The only question at this point is whether or not he will win the 1237 delegates to clinch the nomination before the Republican Convention. Even if he doesn’t, it will be suicidal, politically speaking, for the GOP to deny him the nomination.
The best thing we can do at this point is to prepare for a fight against Donald Trump, and it is not going to be pretty.
As long as Ted Cruz’ folks are better at positioning their own people for delegates, it doesn’t matter how well THE DONALD does. He will be short of the 1237 needed, and in the second round, many of “his” delegates will go to the Worthy Gentleman from Alberta. If Cruz does not take the 2nd Round, it’s anybody’s ball game.
I’m betting on a full on donnybrook with all candidates floating in the wind. All we will lack is Vince McMahon ring side.
Even if he is short by just one delegate, it will be very difficult for the GOP to overtly deny him the nomination. The obvious question that millions of Republicans will ask is what is the sense of having primaries if their wishes are ignored by those who pull the strings in the conventions?
If the GOP establishment hands the nomination to someone else (I don’t think it will be Cruz), Trump will call foul, and will run as an Independent, splitting the pseudo conservative vote to the point that the Democratic nominee would win by a landslide, regardless of who he/she is.

I am still not a Trump supporter, but we must admit he has raised a new awareness in our political system. People now know more about how primaries work and how political parties make their own rules when choosing a candidate.
Some of the issues now in the middle of the debates are there only because of Trump. He has shown how pissed off people are at our government just by being there. He has shown how angry people are at being told one thing and the elected officials doing the opposite.
I agree with much of what you said, although I don’t believe that Trump was as unaware of how the system works as he pretends to be.
I suspect that the reason so many elected officials deviate from their campaign platforms, is because they become fully aware of the responsibility of their office as soon as they take the oath. Effective governance requires dialogue, compromise, and protecting the needs of ALL Americans, not just the members of the party a politician belongs to.
Obama and Hillary’s war crimes.
Remind the families of the passengers in Pan Am flight 103, how innocent Qaddafi was. That thug deserved what he got. The problem is that we did not have a plan in place to replace him.
Qaddaffi has payed for his crimes. Hillary is allowed to run for the highest office in the land. Where’s the Justice. Obama recently stated Libya was his biggest regret and mistake. While Hillary blamed Russia for destabilizing the Middle East
What we really need is a box added to the ballots that says “none of the above”. In a country as great as America, how have we allowed such poor choices for our next President?
Nevada gives you that option.
