Donald Trump angrily lashed out at congressional Democrats on Thursday, demanding a stop to ongoing impeachment investigations of his administration.
Trump spoke out after the House Intelligence Committee interviewed Acting Director of National Intelligence Joseph Maguire regarding the whistleblower’s complaint against Trump that has set off an impeachment inquiry.
“What these guys are doing, Democrats are doing to this country is a disgrace, and it shouldn’t be allowed,” Trump shouted. “There should be a way of stopping it, maybe legally through the courts, but they’re going to tie up our country.”
“We can’t talk about gun regulation, we can’t talk about anything, because frankly they’re so tied up, they’re so screwed up, nothing gets done, except when I do it. ”
Trump’s pleas, no matter the volume, are unlikely to be heeded by Congress.
The whistleblower’s complaint was declassified and released to the public on Thursday morning, and it has triggered more questions and demands for a more widespread investigation.
The documents detail efforts by Trump and his team to solicit campaign dirt on former Vice President Joe Biden from foreign powers, along with a possible cover-up system involving the relocation of transcripts of conversations between Trump and other world leaders.
Democratic leaders, like House Intelligence Chair Adam Schiff, have compared Trump’s rhetoric and actions to those of a mob boss, rather than that of a president of the United States.
Trump’s angry demands bolster that imagery, rather than defuse it. The chances of him getting his way with “the courts” are essentially nonexistent.
