MILWAUKEE (AP) — President Barack Obama’s administration launched a multi-pronged assault on Mitt Romney’s values and foreign policy credentials Sunday, while a fresh set of prominent Republicans rallied behind the GOP front-runner as the odds-on nominee, further signs the general election is overtaking the primary season.

A defiant Rick Santorum outlined plans to leave Wisconsin the day before the state’s contest Tuesday, an indication that the conservative favorite may be in retreat, his chances to stop Romney rapidly dwindling.

“I think the chances are overwhelming that (Romney) will be our nominee,” Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell said Sunday on CNN’s “State of the Union.” “It seems to me we’re in the final phases of wrapping up this nomination. And most of the members of the Senate Republican conference are either supporting him, or they have the view that I do, that it’s time to turn our attention to the fall campaign and begin to make the case against the president of the United States.”

Both Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Vice President Joe Biden went after Romney Sunday, underscoring the belief inside Obama’s Chicago re-election headquarters that Romney will — sooner than later — secure the right to face Obama this fall. Their involvement comes as both sides sharpen their general election strategy, perhaps weeks before the GOP contest formally comes to an end.

“I think Gov. Romney’s a little out of touch,” Biden told CBS’ “Face the Nation” in an interview broadcast Sunday. “I can’t remember a presidential candidate in the recent past who seems not to understand, by what he says, what ordinary middle-class people are thinking about and are concerned about.”

The line of attack is likely to play prominently in the Obama campaign’s general election narrative. While Obama is a millionaire, Romney would be among the nation’s wealthiest presidents ever elected. And he’s opened himself to criticism through a series of missteps.

I always appreciate seeing Biden criticize someone else. The day always needs a little comedy.

Yes and Biden Got it Right! Romney proved to be an idiot and thank God other countries listening knows NOT to listen to his Out of Touch, no foreign policy experience Wannabee Rhetoric!

Just shows what money can do. Romney is buying the nomination. Trouble for him is the conservatives are not behind him. Every state showed a conservative majority against him if you add the votes of Santourn,Paul and Newt together. Ending the primary race now would cause the conservatives to sit it out and the enthusium would dwindle. The Obama administration can now go on the attack full steam. He knows little about Russia or seems to not understand how the global oil market works. Wouldn’t it be great if we found that Bain is behind the oil speculation and the rise in gas at the pump!

I thought the sos was supposed to keep her big mouth out of politics!! Won’t we ever get her out of our face !!!! I hope so….

    • I can see why you’d feel so threatened by such a powerful, intelligent savvy woman.

      • Nancianne

She is merely a product of her own PR machine. Also you should research all the shady things she did the last time she occupied the white House. If you can’t find them I will email them to you.

Willard Charlatan Mitt is such a out of touch Ken Doll, trying to relate in the real world. He can’t possible be a good President for All of We The People because in his almost 7 years of running for President he still has yet to learn how to relate to the majority of Middle Class. How in the heck can he possibly aid and assist honestly with our issues when he never thought to take even a week or two putting himself in a situation to actually relate and walk among the very people he claims to want to service…Do you go to your Corporate Heads wanting to hire you without knowing anything about their Company business, their financial status, their pros and cons and what you have to offer in relations to what their needs are?? Do you Mr Willard Charlatan Romney? NO YOU DON’T. So why would you in all your 7 years of Wannabee Presidential would you not give us that same consideration?? Because you are a Corporate minded, tunnel visioned out of touch, self centered Charlatan who really knows not how to even pretend to care about the very voters you seek trust from. You underestimate our intellect and you believe as long as you out spend your opponents and cater to your red meat Right Wingers that the rest of us won’t matter. The big boys $$$$ will override the little Middle Class Voters. Well don’t count us out Mr Charlatan, there’s a lot more substance to us little Middle Class Voters and we come in a hell of a lot more numbers when we need to stop the likes of Wannabees like you!

This is such an entertaining election. With the negativity artificially created for Obama his approval sank so low that the GOP just needed a reasonable person with an IQ of at least 110 with no skeletons. Couldn’t do it huh? Romney was always second choice and this just wasn’t supposed’s too hard for him to happen as 1 by 1 candidates embarrassed their party. Bachman thinks vaccines cause retardation, which brings us to Perry who suffers from it. Then Herman Cain the sexual deviant. Gingrich showed his idiocy trying to outspend Romney on negative ads. Santorum didn’t come around till too late so it’s for him to gather support. He’s also a religious nutjob. This was fated to happen Romney is king of the idiots! Romney is a somewhat intellegent man with the capacity to be reasonable but he too had skeletons. Thank you repugnanats for this election all presedentail stuff asside the 2 party is going to lose it’s seats in 2016 and in 2013 they are sure to lose some too. It didn’t have to happen this way if your media gave Paul a little credit and actually spoke his name you might not have too look at another four years of Obama. Or even rally behind those boring other safe candidtes Pawlenty or Huntsman. Romney hasn’t bought the election the voters sent the wrong competetition aggainst Romney. A Romney predidency means war on the middle and lower class though so beware voters. He may claim to be for the middle class but his 76 page tax reform plan says otherwise.

Republican voters are left with their age-old dilemna… how to choose the GOP candidate they hate the least. It appears that this year its Romney.

If Biden get something right…STOP THE PRESSES! Romney didn’t have any Olympic experience either, but he does have common sense which is truly in short supply around the White House.
