WATCH: Obama Directly Attacks Republican Speaker Over ‘Reckless’ Shutdown

Rockville (United States) (AFP) – President Barack Obama on Thursday directly attacked Republican Speaker John Boehner, saying he could end a “reckless” U.S. government shutdown in just five minutes.

“Take a vote, stop this farce and end this shutdown right now,” Obama said during a fiery speech in the Washington D.C. suburbs.

Obama said that Boehner could reopen the government and send hundreds of thousands of people back to work “in just five minutes” by passing a temporary operating budget with no partisan strings attached.

“Speaker John Boehner won’t even let the bill get a yes or no vote, because he doesnt want to anger the extremists in his party,” Obama said.

He continued: “That is what his whole thing is about.”

“There’s a simple way to prove it. Send the bill to the floor, let everybody vote.”

“It will pass. Send me the bill, I will sign it. The shutdown will be over and we can get back to the business of governing and helping the American people. It could happen in the next half hour.”

Boehner has made it perfectly clear that his loyalty is to the Tea Party and to protect only the interests of the super rich. If he allowed Congress to vote on a stand alone spending bill, he’s afraid it will pass; he’s only looking out for his donors and his own re-election, putting party first and the American people last.

Boehner is afraid ot the t potty. What we are seeing is an example of anti-Democracy. The ACA passed with a 2/3 majority vote. That is how Democracy wiorks. It was also upheld by the Supreme Court. The government shutdown is an example of bullying.

Boehner, stand up and be brave. You will be a better man for fighting subversion in the government. Stop being a coward.

I fear for the extremists, the Koch bros, Cruz, Basted Boehner, et al., Because the longer this goes, there might just be a revolt with them figuratively and possibly literally: THEY PUT THEMSELVES IN CROSSHAIRS.

Boehner and Republicans in Congress have taken the government and economy hostage, threatening serious damage to both; their betrayal to the United States should be considered an act of treason. Its exactly what we should have expected from elected people, who openly profess to hate government, not to govern. The sequester, budget or even single appropriations bill have not been finished due to their constant obstruction. In March, Congress voted 267-151 to fully fund ‘Obamacare’ and it was enacted into law with the Congressional Budget Office projecting that the ACA will lower both future deficits and Medicare spending. Democrats in the Senate negotiated and agreed to lower the debt budget. ‘Obamacare’ is not negotiable with this bill, because it is the law and has nothing to do with the budget; but the President is willing to amend the Affordable Care Act separately, only after Congress agrees to increase borrowing and reopen the government. Boehner needs allow Congress to vote on a ‘clean’ stand-alone bill stripped of health care provisions, get the Tea Party extremists inline, and put the American people before his own personal interests.
