A very accurate assessment, except for one thing. The bit about ‘no conscience’. Drones are still operated by people. They may not be on board but they still have ‘eyes on a target’ and they still make a decision to fire or not fire.

Another thing a drone can’t do is urinate on the bodies of the people it just killed – that’s a big disadvantage that nobody is talking about.

Alot has been made of the potential for the Govt to use drones domestically to spy on or kill us in our homes. The Govt could do that now if they chose and we as citizens would be unable to stop them – even with our Bushmaster assault rifles.

If Obama breaks off the ‘war on terror’ and we get another major attack, he will be blamed for not doing enough to keep us safe. If he continues the ground war, he will be called a ‘war-monger’ and a liar for not ending the war in Afghanistan. He is already being held responsible for every civilian casualty as well as the death of every american soldier to serve under his tenure. The drone option allows us to keep the pressure on while minimizing our exposure both in terms of lives and cost

American colonists ‘invented’ guerrilla warfare during the American Revolutionary War. They did so because we were being outmatched by the British in every conventional engagement. Farmers versus professional soldiers. So we broke the rules and were lambasted for being uncivilized and held responsible for the looming descent of the world into chaos and eternal damnation. Well, here we go again.

Well stated John. Reminds me of that oft repeated quote, with a slight variation.” You can please some of the people all of the time, and all of the people some of the time, but you can’t please all of the people all of the time”. There will always be detractors of our Country’s policies, and especially the Obama administration’s policies. I’m for whatever saves the lives of our military men and women in combat areas, and which also has the ability to seek out and destroy so called high ranking al-queda without putting our ground troops in the line of fire.

Of course, you know that you have twisted a sentiment first said by P.T. Barnum. Simply replace the word “please” for “fool”. Other than that, I am in complete agreement with you both.

Actually, I thought it belonged to Lincoln, “you can fool some of the people all of the time, and all of the people some of the time, but you can’t fool all of the people all of the time.

Upon doing a Google search it appears that both Lincoln and PT Barnum have been credited with this quote. Although Lincoln seems to have been talking about a specific person when he spoke these lines and not the general public.

You remind me of a quote of George W. Bush’s, “You can fool some people all the time and those are the ones you should concentrate on”.
