‘Doonesbury’ Excerpts New Palin Bio

If you’re counting down the days until the Sept. 20 release of Joe McGinniss’ “The Rogue: Searching for the Real Sarah Palin,” consider your prayers answered. Garry Trudeau, the man behind the popular political comics strip “Doonesbury,” was given an advance copy and is incorporating excerpts into his strip. McGinniss gave him a copy because he was amused by the way Trudeau had portrayed him in earlier strips.

Trudeau had some difficulty finding the juiciest snippets from the 300-plus-page bio, saying it contained “an embarrassment of riches. .?.?. And, of course, there were revelations that didn’t make the cut because I couldn’t figure out how to make them work as comedy.” Check out today’s strip, which reveals this gem from a former security staffer: “You know what she was? A housewife who happened to be governor. I’d fly cross-country with her many times and she’d spend the whole trip looking at People magazine.”
