A Case For Hope

WASHINGTON — “Blessed are they who expect nothing, for they shall not be disappointed.”

It was the early 20th century socialist Eugene V. Debs who pointed to the utility of this extra Beatitude. You don’t have to be a lefty to appreciate its relevance to our politics after the shutdown disaster.

Cynicism about the political future is a default position with a great deal of evidence behind it. We seem incapable of reaching compromises or even finding ways to differ productively. Even elections don’t seem to settle things.

Against this grain, I suggest that we allow ourselves a margin of hope in the wake of the decisive defeat of the extremists who closed the government down to accomplish absolutely nothing. It is a hope tempered by humility. Giant leaps ahead aren’t in the cards. But some important things changed for the better because of this battle.

It almost certainly ended the GOP’s routine use of threatened catastrophe as a form of leverage. In an interview with National Review’s Robert Costa, Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell was direct. “A government shutdown is off the table,” he said. “We’re not going to do it.”

True, McConnell doesn’t speak for the conservative fringe. But the costs of this escapade were so high that Republicans know how much they’d be hurt in the 2014 elections if they tried a shutdown again. As for not raising the debt ceiling, House Speaker John Boehner blinked before throwing the nation into the abyss, and thank God he did. Because it’s now clear that the debt-ceiling weapon is so toxic as to be unusable, Congress might rid us of this relic of World War I finances.

With contrived crises off the table, there is the possibility of normal governance. The Democrats’ overlooked victory (other than avoiding an economic meltdown) is the instruction that the House and Senate, having passed two very different budgets, sit down to work things out.

Outside groups: Please stop touting a “grand bargain.” There can be no grand bargain right now because Republicans are not inclined to agree to any new revenues and Democrats rightly won’t concede anything on the big retirement programs unless revenues are on the table. Pushing for a grand bargain now will only invite disappointment. And those who seek one even if it contains no new revenues will be revealing that their true priority is slashing Social Security and Medicare rather than achieving sustainable fiscal balance.

But Republicans and Democrats could come together around what we might call confidence building measures, a Cold War term sadly appropriate to the moment.

Debs’ opinion was definitely true on the issue of healthcare reform. When President Obama first proposed healthcare reform I was convinced that was a non-starter, not because it lacked merit, but because of the impact it would have on some sectors of our economy and the power of money in American politics.
I was disappointed when the Single Payer proposal was abandoned, but upon reflection I was delighted to see the Affordable Care Act become reality, regardless of its limitations or flaws. Like every government program, and many corporate policies, it will have to be modified as we determine which facets of ACA are working effectively, and which ones need to be modified or eliminated. Regardless of how bumpy its implementation may be, I am delighted to finally see an alternative to the draconian healthcare system we had throughout much of the last century, and the end of insurance industry practices such as the pre-existing condition clause, caps, lack of portability, etc.

    • Lynnette Gentry

      I Agree!!!

    • elw

Good point and one that is ignored by the media. I too really hoped for a Single Payer System but understood that ACA was the best compromised that could be made at the time. But that is the big difference between people like you and I and the Radicalized Right, they fail to see the big picture. I wish more people would point out to them just how much more unhappy they would have been with the real goal of the Progressive of a Single Payer System. At least they still have a system based on the private market place and they do not have to give up the health insurance they currently have.

    • lana ward

Ocare is a complete failure, so is OHitler

      • iamproteus

Ah, Lana, still spreading your bovine derived fertilizer, I see!

        • lana ward

Jay Carney admitted OHitlercare is killing off health insurance policies that Americans currently hold and that OHitler knew that was what would happen as long as 3 years ago. Yet he LIED over and over saying we could keep our current policies and keep our Drs. He is a dirty rotten lying America hatting nig*er. He is purposely destroying our country!!!!!!!

      • Russell Byrd

I guess we should really call you, Lana O’Shit. What else can you expect from someone that uses a false name that is ANAL backwards. Yet, . . . somehow, it is very fitting.

        • lana ward

Your nastiness won’t change the truth. OHitlercare is a complete failure. So suck on that, typical commie dem

          • Russell Byrd

Actually, in a sick sort of way, you are right. I can be nasty, or not, but you will still be a LIAR. Obamacare has not been a failure, in spite of evil, sick sh*t like you claiming otherwise. So ANAL FREAK, how do you like those apples.

          • Eleanore Whitaker

HIS nastiness? Lady your cheese has slipped off your cracker. Your posts are by far the most disgusting attempts to get your way. What’s the matter? Big Daddy isn’t putting more butter on your tender little patties? Does it not occur to you that educated people do not EVER use silly, childish, hatefilled names for the President of the United States? Or, is it that you still suck on that fine good ole bois Confederate teat for your existence? You are one pathetic babe. Go take your Thorazine. You need to do the Thorazine shuffle down the hall of the nearest mental health facility…which the rest of us will end up paying for…Good little contard…always on the federal teat for what she needs. Everything except a real job with a real paycheck.

          • lana ward

You sound like a fat, big yapped old hag. I am thankful I still have my job. Thousands of people are being fired or hours cut back because of OHitlercare. We are now a part time working country thanks to that communist muslim terrorist!!!

          • Russell Byrd

You sound like a psychotic, self-starving, self-loathing closet queen, my dear MR. ANAL.

Oh, please define what a communist muslim is? By definition, there is no such thing, but if you know what it is, please share!

Well, we have an enigma. You lied in the first six words you wrote. . . .

By the way, did you read the article?
How is your comment even remotely on topic?

The only O-homo here, is you, you gender bending poser.

          • Eleanore Whitaker

You still have your job? YOu mean the one at Walmart? The Walmart that tells its employees to supplement their Walmart paycheck with welfare? We are a part time country because “ignernts” like you can’t own up to who makes all those CEO chief decisions…Not the President Tootsie…Your own employer. Grow the hell up. Your inability to find full-time work was sabotaged by your own GOP. They know that the minute corporations have to stop using China’s $11 a month laborers, your paycheck is going to cause them loss of profit. Now..can you please get an education? I have 3 jobs…to your one.

          • Russell Byrd

            Love it! :-)

  • FT66

I really praise the brave of this President. He sat down while or may be he became a Senator and thought how he can help those who really need help. In his mind it came: Affordable Care for All”. He campaigned vigorously about it. I remember I was in New Hampshire in 2008 during one of his campaigns, witnessed women shedding tears when he told the crowd how important it is that every and each individual should have Affordable Health Care. I get difficulties to understand when I hear from the extremist Cruz saying that people don’t like it. Really!! Who are those people he is talking about? Are those who have nothing and looking for some help from someone and every where? These people must live like me and you and the extremist Cruz, as living has no boundaries.

    • jmprint

I hate with a passion when Cruz says he is working for 26 million Texans. Half of us do NOT care if he exist.

      • Allan Richardson

That would be those who are being “Cruzified” by low wages and no health care.

      • Eleanore Whitaker

26 million Texans do not an entire United States make. And, he’s an unmitigated liar. His state gets a return of $1.72 for every dollar they pay in federal taxes. Mine and the rest of the blue states are lucky to get an even break..most of our states get an average of 65 cents for every dollar. So..Looks like the blowhard braggart swaggering drawling Cruz needs to stop playing ultra conservative off MY state’s tax dollars. Swillers at the federal trough. Time to cut off all those Big Oil tax subsidies and tax breaks TX gets just for being Big Oil.

Big Oil doesn’t need $13 billion this year, $14 billion next year and if the GOP House can wangle its way, $15 billion the following year. Are we serfs of Big Oil? Or does Big Oil owe US taxpayers big time? They don’t even pay the cost of the fines for their own oil spills. They wait until a GOP president like Bush takes office and then dump 50% of those spill fines on taxpayers. Talk about big balls?

  • Charvi3

I have said that fasting and praying that good things will come is very very powerful….I trust and have the Faith I have in the man that died on the cross for my sins…and I know that if I stayed in fasting and praying that peace would be between the Republicans and the Democrats…I have a prayer for that especially too that I have taught to others to be praying it with me…also, that recipe of psalms that I meditate in for at least three hours…the Beatitudes…didn’t bring this miracle about…those psalms did…and I mentioned…that something good was going to come out of something bad…even when you have a doubting spirit…God, will bring prayers through with people who believe in Him and Trust in Him…it did it on the election night, also…when, my Doctor from, Pakistan, called me and said he was worried…and I told him not to worry, that I would go into meditation and Prayer and within two hours it was a done deal…so, just maybe….we need to look towards, Jesus Christ, and depend on His help…a lot more….than looking directly at politics and all the evil people that are in it and make all that money….paid to them by the taxpayers…so, stay in prayer and stay focused on the God…that is in charge of everything…not man….and so many people are saying that their insurance went up…but, they don’t realize that these insurance companies are charging the processing fees charged to them through the Federal Government….to the people purchasing the insurance….the government isn’t charging the people themselves…just like when I moved into housing…they run a background check on you with the police…and the people that owned the housing property doesn’t pay for that background check it is you the tenant…so, again..I am glad that people with pre-existing conditions are now able to purchase health insurance that is awesome…it isn’t about the “ME” generation it is about the “WE” generation and what we can do for others in a caring and a loving manner…God, put, Obama, in the White House….I know that one…he cares about each and everyone of the American People….it has been a hard road…but, I told him for about a year and a half it would be hard..but, after that things would get easier…the burdens have been on the middle class taxpayers..because the rich didn’t have to pay taxes..and it is the taxpayers that pay the people in congresses salaries and their payments on their homes as well as the salaries of the people in the House and the Senate and give them their spending monies and pay for their health insurance..just like the people in the arm services the men’s salaries and their families health insurance…it was all on the middle class to pay for it all…and for many other things they paid for…the rich didn’t have to..

    • Independent1

Charvi, I agree with a lot of what you’re saying about having more faith that God will see that better days are yet to come, but it’s not the middleclass that’s had all the burden of paying for America’s expenses – your last comments “it was all on the middle class to pay for it all…and for many other things they paid for…the rich didn’t have to..”

I’ll agree that many of the more wealthy Americans seem to go to the extremes in trying to find ways to get out of paying what many of us would consider to be their fair share of taxes. I think the fact that America’s maximum tax rate is no 39.6% and the average family making more than $1,000,000 in income pays an average tax rate of 20.4%, highlights the effort that many rich make to pay as little as is possible in taxes.
And having said that, I don’t begrudge people from trying to reduce their tax burden, I certainly do. But when people, and even corporations, go to the extreme opf using overseas accounts and every possible gimmick America’s convoluted tax code allows them, I think the people that do this are very unAmerican. And not only that, I think these people are proving clearly to God that money means more to them than anything else. Which is exactly the people Jesus was talking about, when he said that: It would be easier for a Camel to jump through the eye of a needle (an impossibility), than for a rich man to get into heaven.
Jesus wasn’t referring to people who are rich and understand the responsibility that being wealthy lays on them, to be truly caring about others that they can well afford to help; Jesus was talking about those who are not only RICH in the sense of money, but also who go overboard in focusing entirely on trying to obtain as much worldly goods as they can in their short time on this planet. You cannong mix God and Mammon (he desire for everything worldly).

      • Charvi3

Independent…I am an ordained minister and know the word inside and out…also….all of my family worked for the government and I have a friend, for 37 years that was on the board of commissioners in St. Louis…also….Senator Ryan McKenna and his dad used to be a Congressman for MO I know very well they are my neighbors…so, in Amendment 16 it states and you might want to look it up…that the rich should have to pay taxes as well as the middle class..and it is the Taxpayers money that when Bush put us into a war on lies..which he should have been impeached…I am sure that secret society, Skull and Bones….which many Presidents belonged too..kept him from being impeached…the servicemen’s paycheck and their families health insurance were paid by the taxpayers monies…also….Congress is always giving the tax cuts to the very “Elite Groups”…meaning the millionaires and the billionaries…I am very very educated…look at Mitt Romney….the “Narcissitic personality”…a con artists to say the least…and when he worked for the Bain Company did not pay any taxes for 10 years….the biggest form of deception is what you don’t tell about yourself or what you don’t show when asks to do so…as many other Presidents did…so, again…I can see through people very well…and know for a fact the Republican Party don’t care about the needy….the poor or the middle class….when you try to get out of ways of paying your fair share of taxes…that is being deceptive…period…and I know a lot more about the parties than you think…there are many Secret Societies that rule also……but, take Rick Perry…and how hw has done away with many programs for the poor…and my one friend for 37 years went from being a Republican to a Democrat because that very reason….the one male working for Newsmax…Aaron Hoag is always finding out how he will not have to pay any taxes just like a lot of people…this is so wrong…the people in the Congress earns $197,000 a year…the people in the House and the Senate earns $174,000 a year and the taxpayers pay for everything for them and they pay the rents on their homes aqs well as the governors homes..etc…this is so wrong…they should pay their own ways….period..again…my father…my husband worked on Lunar projects for the government and my sister sold helicopters and did a lot in the government too..so, I am very familiar with government workers and who pays into that awesome program Social Security that FDR an awesome Democrat instituted so, when people would retire would have an income to live off of and when they became handicapped would have an income…and it put in as a “Trust Fund” then we had Lyndon B. Johnson…come into office and said that money could be used for anything and everything…then Bush used it to go into a war..we didn’t need to get involved in…so, again..I am stating the facts…not the percentages that you quoted..because a lot of people are getting away with not paying any taxes through so many other means…and if you reduce what you pay into taxes you are not sharing the full responsibility that everyone else has to…and that is deception and not wanting to help the other Americans that are paying their fair share…so, it is an abomination not legally paying the right amount you should pay like the people that do…it is a big lie.

        • Independent1

I don’t disagree with what you’re saying but in reality, take a look at the average percentages that the IRS says that different income groups in America pay:

People earning 30-50,000 average paying 4.8% of their gross income.

People earning 50-100,000 average paying 7.7%

People earning $1,000,000 plus average 20.4%; with higher than 2 million plus earners actually paying less than those earning 1.5-2Million.

It’s the 1.5-2 million earners who actually pay the highest average tax rate of between 24% and 25%.
I’m certainly not trying to dispell any of your comments, only that there are some in the wealthy group that do pay ‘THEIR FAIR SHARE’. I’m only trying to be fair.

I’m as discouraged as you obviously are that so many wealthy obviously choose to be unAmerican, and pay accountants to find them every possible gimmick in the book, so they can do just that ‘GET OUT OF PAYING THEIR FAIR SHARE OF TAXES’.

          • elw

Averages do not apply to what is actually happening. especially when you have multi-millionaires like Mit Romney paying less then 15% a year. For example, during the period I was earning 50 to 100,000 a year I was paying 25% of my income in State and Federal taxes alone simply because I had no ways to hide any of my income (not that I ever would). The more money you make the more able you are to hind what you truly make. I know I have a family full of millionaires and they love to talk about the ways they hind their true income.

          • Independent1

You’re right that the averages don’t always apply – as you noted, there are millionaires like Romney who has played every trick in the game and probably averaged paying a lot less than 10% each year (the high percentages he paid in the 2011 and 12 year were obviously fudged), which means that for the millionaire average to be 20.4%, there also have to be millionaires paying close to 30-33%. But I would be surprised if there were millionaires who paid much more than that (no where near the 39.6 max), unless they never hired an accountant and were completely clueless about all the deductions available to them.

And of course the same applies to the 50-100,000 which the IRS said for 2012 came out with most filers paying around 7.7% – there obviously those with large families and large mortgages and other deductions that probably ended up paying under 5%, while there are those who ened up paying in the 12-13% range.

But the point I was trying to make is, that whatever Americans end up paying, it’s quite a bit less than Europeans in similar living situations are paying. That’s not to say that it’s something anyone likes to do, pay taxes, but someone has to pay for keeping the lighs on, the roads repaired and everyone protected from some form of disasterous event.

          • elw

I have always paid my taxes without complaint, simply because it is my moral obligation to do so. I agree there are cheaters in the lower tax brackets as well as in the higher ones. What really get to me more than anything is that the people who have gotten the most out this Country as far as dollar wealth are the biggest complainers and the most unwilling to meet their moral obligation to their Country (I agree there some who not that way). You would think they would be grateful for all they have instead of worrying so much about the small amount that they contribute to the common good of Country. The truth is the 25% of my income that I paid in Federal and State taxes hurt me far more than the 39% does the very rich and yet they think they should pay a smaller percentage than myself.

          • Independent1

I agree completely with your comments here too – I feel exactly the same way. It’s hard for me to even understand how people who make $400-500,000/yr could have fought so hard over 10 plus years to keep from paying another 4.6% in MAX tax rate, when that might have meant that the amount they would be keeping after taxes was $350,000 instead of 360,000, when the vast majority of Americans live reasonably good lives while being able to keep less than $50,000 after taxes. How can someone complain about having to live on $350,000 after taxes??? It’s beyond my compehension. (And forget about those who make more than 1 million who will fight tooth and nail to keep another $10,000.)

          • elw

Money has a way of twisting some peoples. I have some very rich close relatives and I could fill pages writing about the things they have done to keep or get just bit more money. It is like their entire happiness is based on their bank account and their most recent new toy. It is beyond me and I hope it always stays that way.

          • plc97477

A very smart person once said that taxes are the cost of civilization. Can you imagine what our lives would be like without taxes?

          • Independent1

In doing some research I’ve discovered what even reducing government spending to too low of levels can do (forget about eliminating taxes all together) as many GOP governed states have done in their misguided efforts to govern with severe austerity budgets. Sadly many of these states boast about how they ‘balance their budgets’, but at what cost – degradation in the lives of the residents living in the states they govern.

I’ve posted several times on the NM statitics for red states which show that the GOP’s propensity for cutting budgets not only greatly increases the incidents of poverty and therefore welfare help in the states they govern, but also results in increased violence of all sorts (probably due to reduced police presence); increased instance of infant mortality (probably because they shortchange assistance for women living below the poverty level), and even increased levels of fatal auto accidents (again, probably due to decreased driving regulations or police presence). And not only that, but all 15 of the states with the shortest projected life spans (longevity) in America, are red states.

(Also all 15 of the states that lead the nation in infant mortality are red states and 23 of 25 states that lead the nation in auto accident fatalies are red states.)

      • Germansmith

You are obviously forgetting (or maybe NOT) that working people pay far more that Federal Income Tax.
There is State Income Tax, Property Tax (unless you live in Govt. Housing) State Sales Tax, Local Sales Tax, School District taxes and not to mention tolls, gas taxes, liquor, tobacco and many others.
By the time you take that $1,000,000 of “earned” income, their actual spending funds came down to 450K and some of that needs to be spend in health insurance (no govt. subsidy for this wealthy ass, actually tax him some more) car, house and umbrella, because if you live well, some envious lazy bum is going to try to scam you with a false accident.
And God forbid you are an small business owner and you died and have more $5mills in combined wealth and try to leave it to you children….Uncle Sam will get you
        Not that rich anymore
I always find amusing Democrats railing against GOD the Bible and divine connection and his rules UNTIL it comes to skin the rich for more money, them is OK.
Darwinism is GOOD as long as we cover the part that we came from apes, BUT when we get to the principal point of the “survival of the fittest”, then, is not good anymore. And they call it “Social Darwinism”

        • Independent1

Yeah! I was only responding to Charvi’s comment about the “middleclass shouldering the whole burden”. I’m very familiar with all the taxes that American’s like to add up so they can complain about America’s taxes. But keep in mind, that for Europeans, they also pay VAT taxes which are charged on virtually everything they buy and use (when we were in Germany 50 years ago, you paid them if you owned a radio or highend appliance) with very few exceptions which often run from 15-30%, on top of their 40% plus in income taxes (actually 50-75% for quite a number of countries) – such that the European’s tax burdens FAR EXCEEDs what U.S. taxpayers have to pay even when they add everything up.

          • Germansmith

And that is probably why so many European athletes and entertainers become US Citizens because taxes in western European countries are insane, the economy flat, unemployment high.
Maybe we should imitate them and get different results?

          • Independent1

Sorry, any kind of sales tax or flat tax, puts A FAR GREATER BURDEN ON THE POOR THAN ON THE RICH. It doesn’t take much of an example to prove that – when a rich person (say earning 500,000/yr) buys something like a car, with a flat sales tax of say 6%, he ends up paying $1,200 in sales tax which ends up being .024% of his income. While the guy earning only 50,000 per year buying the same car with the same $1,200 tax, would be paying 2.4% of his/her income.

A person with an even lower income who ended up buying the same car, may well have had to really scrape to just afford to buy the car, forget about paying the $1,200 sales tax. Which makes a flat or sales tax totally unfair for a tax designed to fairly support everything that suffers when people drive their car – the roads, the pollution, the depletion of the planet’s natural resources, etc. For the wealthy person, the $1,200 sales tax is like pocket change.

          • Germansmith

I guess them, you are missing the point of being rich or fiscally responsible. The guy making 50K is not supposed to buy the same car as somebody making 500K
If you are making 500K per year, you are not buying an $18,000 Toyota, you will be buying a $50 K Lexus or $60K Mercedes and therefore if you are paying 6% of 60k is far more than 6% of 18K.
Same applies to wine and beer and clothes and even food and restaurants….What is the point of getting an education or open a business to make more money if you are going to be buying the same stuff as a teacher or factory worker. The more expensive stuff you buy, the more taxes you pay.
Now, I have seem many people living in an slum, have no decent clothes or food for their children and they have an Escalade or a BMW parked in front of their houses. I have no respect for those people.
if you want everybody to be the same, then is Communism what you are seeking

          • Independent1

Oh come on!! Are we being a snob now or what?? You can’t be that clueless to believe that everyone who earns 1/2 a million a year is clueless enough to believe that they have to pay $50,000 for a Mercedes that won’t get them from point A to point B any better than a $20,000 Hundai Sonata?? I’ll guarantee you that there are many families earning 1/2 a million that drive a car costing under $30,000.

  • TZToronto

I disagree that the Tea Party obstructionists won’t try it again. Look how effective it was last time! They shut things down for more than two weeks. If they just work harder, they think, they’ll be able to end all entitlements (for the poor), slash taxes to the bone (for the wealthy), and take America back to the good ol’ days (when people knew their place)!

    • FT66

Oh! come on, you might take them as if they were effective, BUT who did benefit from their shutting down of the government? I do think, we need to discourage them and not encourage them. If one does something good let them be praised, BUT doing the opposite, shouldn’t get the same praise.

      • TZToronto

You missed my sarcastic point. The point is that they’re so dumb that they think doing the same thing again will finally succeed. They will not learn from their abject failure.

        • FT66

Am so, so, sorry TZToronto, I read your comment in a hurry. I now get your point. Once again, SORRY!

          • TZToronto

No problem. Thanks for the reply.

    • Canistercook

Perhaps if we changed the word ‘entitlements’ back to ‘handouts’ more people would take responsibility for themselves and their offspring so we could help the deserving needy. Since when have others become ‘entitled’ to the fruits of another man’s hard work, effort and conservation.

      • elw

Except you do realize they are not handouts. Medicare and Social Security recipients pay into the system for decades before they get the benefits they are promised.

        • Independent1

You’re absolutely right – but then the troll ‘Canistercook’ wouldn’t realize the truth if it bit him in the arse.

          • elw

Oh no doubt about that, but I always hope that someone who reads and is not sure of what he says will get some information that will make them think.

          • Independent1

I agree with your honorable intentions.

          • elw

            I am not surprised:)

      • Independent1

There you go again clueless – trying to distort the meaning of the word ‘entitlements’. When you talk about ‘handouts’ THAT IS WELFARE!!!

ENTITLEMENTS are Social Security and Medicare – two programs that everyone who participates in them HAS PAID FOR JUST AS THEY PAY FOR INSURANCE. And that’s why they are called, ENTILEMENTS – you paid for them, therefore, YOU ARE ENTITLED TO RECEIVE THE BENEFITS OF THOSE PROGRAMS.

But since you’re really talking about WELFARE, things like Food Stamps and Medicaid and SSDI, I hope that you realize that in reducing them or eliminating, BY FAR doing so would negatively effect REPUBLICANS far more than DEMOCRATS. Given that more than 75% of food stamps go to Red State residents, and the same is true about Medicaid. And why? Because 21 of the 23 states with the most people living below the poverlty level, those who QUALIFY FOR WELFARE, are red states!!!!!

    • elw

Too funny, thanks for the laugh.

    • plc97477

I agree with you. cruz is already planning his next crappola. Learning anything even a lesson needs the intelligent to understand the message.

  • Eleanore Whitaker

147,000 Americans to date have filed applications for ACA healthcare. 147,000 Americans who formerly were dropped from HMO roles or were unable to afford price gouged, padded premiums, copays and deductibles. 147,000 Americans now are willing to pay for their own healthcare and not have their costs tacked onto other Americans premiums. Remember that number…147,000 in just a few weeks. If this many Americans have needed healthcare insurance and have been locked out by greedy HMOs, it explains why medical bankruptcy was an inevitability and lack of quality healthcare an absolute.

    • elw

Well put. It took 6 months for the Bush drug plan to get up and running and even then there were problems to sort out. The glitches will iron out and by this time next year there will be millions of Americans who finally have health care coverage, that can only be a good thing, I think 147,000 Americans is a very good start.

    • Independent1

Eleanore, I think far more than 147,000 have been submitted. Although people say the process is still slow and unacceptable, according to CNN, 500,000 applications have been processed:

WASHINGTON (CNN) — Nearly 500,000 people have filled out applications for Obamacare coverage despite the highly publicized problems with online sign-ups, administration officials told CNN Saturday.

      • Eleanore Whitaker

        I stand corrected. Thank you.

        • Independent1

I passed along the update because I thought you might be pleased to see that the implementation was actually going fairly well, even given all the snafu’s that seem to have been encountered.

I know I’m very pleased to see that despite the problems, 1/2 a million people have submitted applications for ACA already. And from what I’ve seen via some of the news outlets – ACA is going to make a big difference in millions of people’s lives. Not only through reduced premiums, but also through reduced deductibles, expanded coverage in many cases and even including allowing many to get insurance they were either previously unable to afford, or weren’t even offered coverage for by an insurance company, because of a pre-existing condition.

Even on twitter, which I’ve seen noted on posts, the overwhelming emotions of joy can be felt even through their truncated twitter tweets. How great that is!!!!

          • neeceoooo

Like you, I am thrilled that healthcare is available for everyone. I see patients every day that are going through very expensive radiation treatment for cancer, with no coverage. Our doctors, because they are kind and believe in treating the patient, write off these accounts. This is great for the patient but bad for everyone else because we pay for it

          • Independent1

It’s nice to hear that there are doctors who will accept patients with serious illnesses that have no insurance coverage. I’ve read a number of posts from people who say that they’ve had doctors refuse to accept them as patients because they either did not have insurance, or the doctor would not accept the insurance company which was providing their insurance coverage.

As you pointed out, these doctors cannot afford to be providing healthcare to all these folks truly ‘free of charge’, they have to be reimbursed in some way, and it’s by others subsidizing those who cannot pay via higher doctors’, labs’ and hospital’s charges (which translates sometimes into higher insurance premiums).

          • neeceoooo

Thanks for your response, I have seen some of these posts and I wonder how much is truly accurate. I have worked in healthcare for many years and I have never seen a doctor refuse to treat the patient either because they have no insurance or because they do not participate with their plan, there may be one out there, but I have not seen it. The statistics indicate that around 60% of all bankruptcies are medical bills that can not be paid but the patient. If the physician does not participate with the plan, he may still see the patient but he will not take the non-allowable write off and therefore, the patient is billed for the full amount. I for one, am very hopeful this does work and that the GOP stay out of it.

          • Eleanore Whitaker

Actually, since most US doctors were formerly under the jurisdiction of HMOs they accepted, they were overruled by HMOs as to which patients they could and couldn’t accept. My doctor has complained bitterly about being turned into an HMO employee. HMO doctors are told how many patients a day they must see in the network as well as how much time they are allowed to spend with each patient. Hence, the drive by healthcare we in the US have been receiving of late. It’s always always been about HMO profit. Not healthcare.

          • Russell Byrd

I totally agree. The great rise in medical costs over the years has seemed to follow the takeover of non-profit hospitals by the “for-profit” corporations.

          • Independent1

Thanks for the refresher. I wasn’t aware that HMOs had that much sway on doctors; as to being able to dictate what patients they could accept and how much time they could spend with each patient. That’s obviously something that should never have been happening. And hopefully, as ACA gets more and more Americans insured, in a few years, America can look at moving to true single-payer coverage for all, which will cut the for-profits out of healthcare picture, at a time when the economy is in a much better position to do that, than it was in 2009-10.

          • Eleanore Whitaker

It’s always been my belief that in this life there are some issues that cannot exist within the for profit domains. Healthcare is one of these, war and death are others.

Human life dangling at the mercy of a profiteer is neither humanely just, nor is it a conscionable link to profit. From the moment certain profiteers began to invest in the health and lives of other human beings, we remain their slaves.

          • nirodha

All people should have food, shelter, clothes and medical care, without regard for the profit motive. There are more important things in our existence than money. I believe that a number of important humanists have espoused these notions, including the Buddha and Jesus.

      • lana ward

Ocare is a complete failure, as is it’s creator!!! Bye bye middle class

        • Russell Byrd

Middle class must have the ACA and continue to improve it in order to survive. All wages, except for the greedy rich, and some professionals, are dropping like rocks, when adjusted for true inflation.

Obama has not failed, in spite of all the vicious, evil, racist attempts to ruin his tenure. As well, the ACA has not failed, in spite of you MAGGOTS.

Since your name is really ANAL, I suggest you at least pull your head out of your *ss.

          • lana ward

Dems are turning against OHitlercare too. Loser!!

          • Russell Byrd

Another bold-faced whopper by an idiot that has an allergy to all truth. . . . No change in this situation.

          • lana ward

6 dems have turned against this God awful law, and more are sure to follow–I told you I know more than you, I watch REAL NEWS!!

          • Russell Byrd

Yes, “freshly” manufactured news, I am sure. The kind that has not even happened yet, and likely won’t. Isn’t insanity wonderful. Oops, I am not referring to the Faux host.

Yet, insanity can seal out all that bad that we call truth and reality. Unfortunately, I am unable to share your bizarre universe.

        • Russell Byrd
          • lana ward

dailykos is communist, no wonder you’re so fu*ked up!!!

          • Russell Byrd

Then why are you “fu*king” here? Hmm?

Only a complete idiot would spend so much time here and hate it so badly. You did not come to read or learn anything, just mouth off your tired, senseless, sick lies. Is this all that your life entails? Does this give meaning to your life?

If so, then you are one sick, bent, Hell bound piece of filth. A piece of filth that is likely to stroke out at any moment. Please, please, please, do so soon!

Don’t bother with the hurt feelings, you will be wasting your time. After you just threatened a sitting President, you will find that I am proud of what I have said.

          • lana ward

Fu*k you!! I didn’t threaten the bastard!!! I just pray someone takes him out before he destroys the whole country!!!

          • Russell Byrd

Yeah, you did. And I have logged it, so you can delete it if you are running scared.

I would respectfully suggest that you “fu*k” yourself and raise your own little b*st*rds. . . . Well, forget respectful.

          • lana ward

I’m not running scared, freak. I didn’t threaten, but if I had the chance, I’d take OHitler out myself. I sure pray someone does!!

          • Russell Byrd

You just made another threat, FREAK. I am praying that someone takes you out. It would be the kindest thing, putting you out of your misery, and ours too.

          • lana ward

            Cry baby, cry

          • Russell Byrd

I will not take up your wimpy habits. A real man does not act like you. Of course, you are too stupid to understand.

    • lana ward

Ocare will kill the middle class, it is a complete failure, as is it’s creator

      • iamproteus

Lana Ward is a complete failure and her posts prove it beyond a doubt!

        • Eleanore Whitaker

This is the Confederate mentality…From their mouths to God’s ears and back again. Too back they can’t put sentences together that make a particle of common sense nor have any validating proof. She hates Obama…he’s the wrong color. She, like many others of her brain limitations can’t own up to their racism.

They now are seething with rage that this president dared to put them right back in the places…common, ordinary Americans with no more power than the rest of us.

          • lana ward

You’re a bitch and a racist, not me!! I would LOVE to see Dr Ben Carson, Allen West, Herman Cain, Tim Scott and other blacks be President. I wouldn’t care if OHitler was purple, he’s a traitor and a terrorist. He’s a shyster, a low down thug!!!

          • Russell Byrd

If you were female I would call you a bitch. The kindest thing I can call you is a FREAK.

Of course, you would love to see an Uncle Tom or a racist turncoat be President. The only thugs I have seen all vote for T-Potty scum.

          • lana ward

You’re a nasty racist pig. Now go to hell. Blacks are decent. OHitler is a nigger, he’s NOT black!!! he’s not decent

          • Russell Byrd

So I am the racist, and you are not. How humorous you are, in a rather sick way. You can call yourself Einstein, but you will still have an IQ smaller than my shoe size, Freak!

        • lana ward

Republicans were right to want to defund this God awful Ocare. It is going to destroy the country

          • Russell Byrd

What is your plan to replace it with and do what Christ told you to do. Nada! We already know without an answer.

Once again, why don’t you help make the ACA work. Then if it fails you can crow from the rooftops. Of course, we know the answer to that as well. You are a hypocritical freak that when you even mention God’s name you are committing blasphemy.

YOU are a bigot and a racist that wants suffering and pain to be rampant.

          • lana ward

Everytime the dems do anything, it makes a situation worse– quit using my word freak, thief. Be original, not a copy cat

          • Russell Byrd

Freak you, you freakin’ FREAK. And an ANAL FREAK at that.

          • lana ward

Sorry you are beside yourself because your muslim terrorist is a COMPLETE FAILURE!!! LOL

          • Russell Byrd

No, I am not. I would rather great things happen, but I am content with the fact that great things take time. Especially, when faced with evil, greedy, psychopathic liars as opposition.

I do not need to resort to insane rants and binges of lies to get what is right. Which is all that I want.

          • lana ward

All I want is what’s right too but that won’t happen until OHitler is gone. 5 years of him and this country is all but destroyed. Some transformation of America!!

          • Russell Byrd

Why are you here? You add nothing to any conversation. You make incredibly wild claims. Is your goal to tell such huge, breathtaking lies that we will not have a response? Well, your lies are so bad that it is almost embarrassing to try to reason with you. EVERYONE, knows you are lying. Even most of your crazy compatriots steer clear of you.

One day soon, the hatred that you are building up by dwelling on these whoppers, added to your ingrained lack of sense and fair-play, are going to cause you to explode. I really do mean it, when I say “stroke out.” You will become a dead FREAK or one with a lot more brain damage than you already have.

      • Eleanore Whitaker

LanaWard…Can you prove beyond a doubt it is a complete failure? You can’t. You know full well why your kind don’t want ANY healthcare reform. Your kind love to dump the cost of YOUR healthcare on MY healthcare premiums. Sorry lady…time to act like a responsible adult. For a neocon who purports to be so conservative, how is it a bunch of Tea Party Freeloaders are fighting SOOOOO hard not to pay for their own healthcare? Is it because the red state Confederates lap up all of MY federal tax dollars into the billions for phony SSDI?

SS is already more than 75 years old. Your kind like to say it’s a failure. No program that is EVER implemented in government or corporations is 100% on the first try. Need proof? Ask Bill Gates how long it took before he arrived at today’s Microsoft operating systems. Yeeesh…The Contards say it, so it’s law…until we start passing the laws they don’t like and then, they fight for immediate repeal…Shopping around for laws you like and those you don’t, doesn’t cut it anymore Magnolia blossom.

        • lana ward

Ocare is a failure as is OHitler. The sad part is, he knew it would fail( as did ALL the Republicans) that’s why they wanted to defund it. The US has the worlds greatest software companies, but instead of any of those, OHitler chose politically connected contractors from Canada and the result is a nightmare. He knew long ago it was going to fail!!! NOW what are we all going to do???

          • Eleanore Whitaker

Lana…Seek professional help. The saddest part is your Stars and Bars ragbag flag is only a great substitute for Charmin. As for boozies broads who drink all day and swill at the public trough…need any reminders your Tom DeLay, Speaker of the House was forced to resign just like Tricky Dicky Nixon? Oh ..and now..for the greatest of all…Rip Van Romney, Madoff’s favorite apprentice is being investigated for RICO violations along with his Bain Capital…for fraud…well hoochie coo…What have you to say about that? And by the way…You best get a move on…We’ve yet to see Loozy The Calgary Croozie’s birth certificate.

          • lana ward

Hasn’t your communist news told viewers Tom Delay has been vindicated?? He is free as a bird. Dems ALWAYS throw accusations against ANY Republican that they don’t like or are afraid of!! ALWAYS. Just to ruin their career. LIARS!! That’s all the dems know how to do. And talk about fraud, you need to check out the history of all of your communists.–the dems communist policies have turned America into a cesspool. Nasty, Godless freaks is all they are

          • Eleanore Whitaker

Hasn’t your ultra contard news told YOU YOU YOU that no one in the rest of the US places ANY faith in TX government that hangs innocent men and then allows a thief like Tom Delay to get off? The GOP smug BS has gone as far as it can go. You either prove what you say in a US court of law outside of TX lady or you are a liar. Were I a betting woman, I’d opt for you being a liar.

Oh and by the way, since YOU try to vindicate Tom DeLay, you want to explain why he had to RESIGN as speaker of the House for misconduct? Or do thudheads of the right think misconduct is in the eye of their beholders?

You’d best try again Toostie Wootsie…DeLay was one..you want to explain why Kenny Boy Lay magically died 6 weeks before he was to arraigned for massive Enron fraud? You want to explain why Jeff Skilling, Lay’s honco in thievery ended up in prison? Was that because it was all a lie?

Go change your underwear…Your pampers are muddy. You can’t win one with lies when truth is soooo much easier to prove. I can prove what I write…You can’t. That makes you a liar. Stand down before those lies knock you down.

          • lana ward

You’re a freak!! Your leader is a terrorist–the country is finding out. LOL. You sound like you are just about beside yourself knowing OHitlers signature achievement is ONE BIG FAILURE!!!
Republicans tried to warn you fools!!!

          • Eleanore Whitaker

And Lana the Looney strikes again. If I’m a freak, you obviously have no idea what your posts sound like. Don’t talk about failure…until you deal with your own loser life. You can rant and rave until the guys in the white suits come for you. Then, your GOP bull tyrants will no doubt try to see to it your mouth is duct taped to prevent you from causing them any more embarrassment. You can’t lick O’bama’s boots Tootsie…Now shove that Stars and Bars ragbag flag up your anal cavity. Who cares what a loony freak thinks any way?

          • lana ward

OHitlercare is a failure which will lead to a one payer system just what OHitler and the dems have wanted for years. This has failed in every country, why does smart OHitler think it will work here–it won’t , boot licking tootsie. OHitler has ruined our country with his “transformation!!!

          • Russell Byrd

Hey “anal,” is their any paint or wallpaper (or padding) left on the walls of your domicile. I can just see those jaws of yours gnashing like a big termite ripping away at everything in sight.

Of course, maybe I am wrong, and you just foam at the mouth.

          • Eleanore Whitaker

President Obama for you slugs of disrespect for the President of you own country (or is Jefferson Davis still your only president?) is anything but a failure. Here’s why. He came into office with 2 wars Bush and Cheney pushed the US into in their 8 years soley to help Cheney’s Halliburton get a no-bid contract for work in Iraq. Now? You YOU YOU are the taxpayer billed for that $350 billion and counting Halliburton earned by padding our bills and handing our military substandard equipment.

You don’t have a country, you little twit. President Obama to you you disrespectful swine snout, was held hostage in 2009 by your GOP bulls ..you know the ones who feed your ass our tax dollars? First your bois decided that unless the rich asses got a 4th tax cut in 2009, they would “Get rid of Obama.” That was Mitch the Bitch Boi McConnell’s statement in March 2009…Well loser? Obama was re-elected…guess you slept in too late to realize you you you were overruled.

Comes 2010 and again the GOP bull tyrants try and hold this president hostage by refusing to release FEMA funding to states who suffered massive flooding and wildfire…unless all solar energy funding was removed. Sorry Mrs. Nuthead…Solar is doing so well despite all attempt by Big Oil to crush the life out of it. And, the beauty of solar today is that all that bitching about the loss of Solyndra was just another ruse to pump more of MY tax dollars into the Aholes in Big Oil. oh gee…didn’t work Tootsie did it? Do try to keep up with the present…This isn’t the antebellum south in the days of sharecroppers living off Big Daddy Plantation owner’s scraps.

President Obama is smarter, wiser and far more capable than you Texas cowboy EVER was. He has already reduced the deficit to below the percentage of Reagan, Bush 41 and Bush 43…some failure. You are failure…because you live like a welfare queen off federal tax dollars. Now…do us all a favor and get that red state ass moving in a real job so you can finally start to pay your fair share of taxes you freeloading moron.

          • lana ward

OHitler is a terrorist out to destroy the country. He will go down as the worst p-resident in history. Bush Loves his country, OHitler hates America. Still don’t know if it’s the country he was born in or not now do we!!! 5 years of his bullshit has all but destroyed us. We are MUCH worse off than when he took office. Wake up you old fat hag!!!

          • Eleanore Whitaker

You’re the terrorist. Do you wear a burque? A hajab? Sorry Bush your Hero goes down as the worst. It wasn’t this president who had 8 years to see that Sept. 2008 financial meltdown coming…It was Bush and Cheney. You are bullshit…I weigh 128 lbs…you tub of lard Daisy Mae porch monkey. You don’t know who your old man is…don’t talk about people not knowing where the President was born. If your brains weren’t in your ass, you’d know that ALL Presidents are vetted properly before they can take office but who expects the two-steppers from backwater DogPatch to know anything but how to grow more hate. Is that the only product turds like you know how to grow?

By the way, does Walmart allow all of its employees to sit on their asses and post hour by hour hateful BS? Wow…some really valuable employees the Walton Billionaires hire. NOT

          • Russell Byrd

Repubs have not been warning anyone except about the need to keep themselves and their true constituents flush with OUR cash.

Your a total idiot for not seeing that. The worst part is “anal,” they will pick you clean right after they finally get done with the rest of us. You will find you are not that special.

          • lana ward

The dems are the ones abusing Americans. Their policies have turned most into cry whiney, give me, give me sponges. Dems have deleted self respect from people and that is criminal–they should ALL be HUNG!!!!

          • Russell Byrd

Democrats did not create you, so you must be wrong again. You are nothing but a senseless whiner. With people like you, America would be living in mud huts and burning people as witches.

          • lana ward

            Ohomo OHitler=the food stamp p-resident

          • Russell Byrd

The only o-homo here is you, Mr. ANAL. At least, the Democrats try to care for those that are hurting. Your heroes just want people to starve.

Think about it. We Liberals are saving your worthless lives. If you had your way, we would wind up with a nation in revolution. The poor and disaffected would be out cutting your worthless throats. Of course, you are too stupid to understand that.

Use a little logic. If your methods actually worked, then we would not need food stamps. Your methods don’t work, so we need food stamps. It is really that simple.

          • lana ward

Under OHitler, over 6 million jobs have disappeared, thousands out of work, half of the country is on food stamps, he’s pit everyone against everyone–he WILL go down as the worse p-resident in our history!!! Watch and see!!

          • Russell Byrd

Well, anal o’hitler, under your capitalist, thieving idols, we have lost 6 million jobs. All they want is the profit. Screw everyone else.

Think about it. Oops, that won’t happen, but look at the calls by the right-wing to reduce government. Lay-off people who then cease to be contributing consumers. You thieves think the solution to everything is to destroy, then come in and scarf up the pieces. Whether in the public or the private sector, its all the same. Just in the public sector you cannot automatically get your way, and that p*sses you off to no end.

America, for all its many faults, WAS NOT BUILT THAT WAY and DID NOT BECOME GREAT being parasitic of its own people. PUT PEOPLE to work and tax the rich based on what they can easily afford. It is not like the rich “earned” their money with their own back breaking labor. They got it from OUR labors.

Of course, you are against this course of action. If things got better, your lies would all be seen for what they are. You would have no further reason to live and would have to immolate yourself at the local landfill.

          • lana ward

All of the regulations OHitler has put on businesses, he has put them out of business!! If he would put the same regulations on Gitmo, it would close tomorrow!! : ))

          • Russell Byrd

Anal O’Hitler, please name all those regulations that Obama has personally put on businesses.

What does this have to do with “Gitmo”? In fact, can you even spell the real name of the place? If Obama put the same regulations that you are lying about, then what would happen? NOTHING, you stupid loon.

You are a loon that I enjoy watching waste his time. . . .

          • lana ward

If OHitler would put as many regulations on Gitmo as he has on small businesses and they’ve had to shut down, Gitmo would be forced to shut down just like businesses have had to!! Hey then that would FINALLY be ONE promise that OHitler has kept!! It’s still open the last I heard

          • Russell Byrd

Anal Ohitler, please read carefully. I am making this simple.

            1. Your post is totally off-topic. It is your usual lame attempt to keep your lies and idiotic arguments in play. When one lie is busted, tell another one. Then retell the first one, when that one goes down. I call this turbo-spin. You can never be held to a point.
            2. What you keep attributing to Obama often has nothing to do with him. You can claim anything you want, but you never prove anything.
            3. “Gitmo,” because you are too stupid and illiterate to know what it is, much less to spell it, is NOT a business. It is a military installation under their rules.

            4. “Gitmo,” is open mostly because your right-wing heroes will not let it close. Your mob is the one that wants it open, but like everything, you want to blame Obama for it. EVERYONE with a brain know, that if Obama closes it, you gangsters will scream from the rooftops about how weak a President he is. AND you will run the lie about Obama being a Muslim into the ground. Oh, you already tell that LIE until you are blue in the face.
            5. The fact that your lips move, or your fingers can type, means you are busy producing more lies. Become an American before someone drops a house on you. . . .

          • lana ward

OHitler never lets Republicans get in his way when he wants to do something so why didn’t he close Gitmo, another promise broken

          • Russell Byrd

            . . . never lets Republicans get in his way . . .

            THANK GOD for Obama!

          • lana ward

Wrong. It’s Satan you can thank for OHitler. He is one evil bas*ard!!!!

          • Russell Byrd

Jesus, as the Son of God, taught LOVE. You teach HATE. Which team are you playing for again?

          • lana ward

On YouTube, there is a video of OHitler thanking Satan. Whos’.side is he on now??

          • Russell Byrd

            You’re just teaching more of your true master’s hate. . . .

          • lana ward

Coward! You’re afraid of seeing Satan OHitler saying, Thank you Satan

          • Russell Byrd

If I were afraid of anything, it would be stupidity. I worry that you may be contagious.

          • lana ward

            OHitler thanks Satan–isn’t that special

          • Russell Byrd

Might be if it were true. We both know that it is you that thanks Satan every day. Unfortunately, the only thing “special” about you is your empty headed lying.

          • lana ward

Watch it. OHitler thanks Satan. It’s right there on Youtube for all to see

          • Russell Byrd

Who cares? Why should I watch your manufactured, self-aggrandizing BS? Really, we both know that your vid is amateurish nonsense, so why should anyone care? Well, one of us knows it’s fake.

I was going to ask if you had ever, EVER, really seen Satan, but you probably live with him, so I guess that was a moot point.

          • lana ward

Can’t bare to see OHitler thank Satan?? Coward

          • Russell Byrd

I refuse to watch anything that would destroy brain cells and make a person dumber. I guess you have it on “loop” so you can watch it over, and over, and over, and over, and over. . . . :-)

          • Russell Byrd

I did not watch it, but I did research it. You are a lot sicker than I thought. You cannot tell vicious, evil, fakery from fact and truth. Truly sick and evil you are, oh servant of Satan.

I have told you before that you are recruiting for “US.” We know that we can never get through to the stupidest segments of the population. Those narrow, evil minded haters. The refuse of our population that thinks sneaky, nasty lies are cute and funny. Especially, like you, those that think you can just make up the facts to fit your hateful outlook.

Yet, anyone with any intelligence and decency will turn away from your lies and evil. You will win the war for us. YOU ARE winning the war for us.

          • lana ward

LIAR!! You didn’t research it and not find it! I just watched it!! Type in Obama thanks Satan–it takes you right to it

          • Russell Byrd

Actually, I have a tab on my browser right now with all that reworked and edited garbage. Right there with the Obama cartoons, voice overs, video splices. Any moron can do better.

            http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=satan+and+obama&oq=satan+and+oba&gs_l=youtube.1.0.0.982.2669.0.5085.8.4.0.4.4.0.108.315.3j1.4.0…0.0…1ac.1.11.youtube.7-nrlqWl7SU

BUT why would any normal person want to have anything to do with your lies? So you like cartoons that much? I suppose I must be dealing with an evil nine year old. What is your real name . . . Damian?

          • lana ward

There is a video of OHitler on Youtube thanking Satan!! Whose side is he on!!

          • Russell Byrd

More lies and hate. You are a poser, a fake. . . .

          • lana ward

Check it out before you call me a liar, coward. It’s there, I saw it—Oh and the OHitlercare web site crashed again. LOL!!!

          • Russell Byrd

You are the evil coward. You are scared of the truth.

Remember, what I said about the old Eleanor Roosevelt joke. The site will get up and running, and you will still be a liar.

Why don’t you do something “christian” rather than doing jumping through hoops to do evil for your real master?

          • lana ward

You’re the liar, you said the site was running. The whole OHitlercare is a cruel joke OHitler played on Americans. The site won’t work and OHitlercare sure won’t work

          • Russell Byrd

Well, Anal Ohitler, I have twice responded to that statement, and you have conveniently ignored both responses. As I used the analogy (anal-ogy, very fitting for you) of the old Eleanor Roosevelt joke. The site will be back up and running, and you will still be a liar. . . .

As well, a number of states are still registering people without any problems. Once again, you conveniently failed to address the issue and just responded with your usual arsenal of LIES.

Really, whether you like it or not, I address the LIES that you tell. You never really respond to my posts at all. You just ignore, and then spin the conversation to something else.

With that in mind, you will never “win” an argument, regardless of how much need you have to do so. You probably even cheat at solitaire.

          • lana ward

Right now the site isn’t running, so I’m not the liar , you are. You said the site is running. I believe it will never run, that doesn’t make me a liar, wit. Jay Carney admitted OHitlercare is killing off health insurance policies that Americans currently hold and that OHitler knew that was what would happen as long as 3 years ago!!!! He promised over and over we could keep our policies and we could keep our Drs. He is a dirty rotten lying America hating nig*er!!!!!

          • Russell Byrd

Thanks for proving your racism, Anal Ohitler.

Remember, ELEANOR ROOSEVELT! It WILL run, but you still will be a LIAR. No change in the situation at all.

As well, you have never made a response to my other dozen or so points. Wonder why?

          • lana ward

The dems were all mad when Joe Wilson yelled–YOU LIE!! to OHitler and the WHOLE world saw!!! They know now Wilson was telling the truth–OHITLER,YOU LIE!! That was one of the greatest moments ever!!!!

          • Russell Byrd

Except that the whole world KNOWS that Schmo Wilson —LIED!

Anal O’Hitler, if you got your head out of the sh*t pot, oops T-potty, you would know that the world thinks your sick a** is crazy. The majority of Americans know that too. You lost the election by the same margin that Reagan won HIS “landslide.” Obama may not be that popular, but YOUR platform has become hated by at least 80% of the population. That 20% that support your nonsense are widely considered by EVERYONE to be bat-sh*t crazy.

          • lana ward

Jesus is life. All life is created in his image. Christians are for life. Dems are the party of death. They believe in murdering unborn babies. Is that teaching love???

          • Russell Byrd

I believe in giving the people the right to make their own decisions. Right or wrong. You want to control other people while you demand complete freedom for yourself.

Beyond being pro-fetus you are not pro-life at all. You are against anything that helps your fellow humans. Especially children. You hate and you teach hate.

Liberals, roughly speaking, follow the teachings of Jesus, whether we are religious or not. You just believe Christianity gives you a blank check to do whatever you want. Regardless, of how much damage you do. In other words, you are a hateful, evil hypocrite that mouths the word Christian as a magic talisman. YOU DON’T BELIEVE.

          • lana ward

God turned his back on America when the Supreme Court said it is legal to murder babies

          • Russell Byrd

God turned his back when evil ones like you pirated his name to cover the evil that you do. . . .

          • lana ward

What is more evil than murdering babies–nothing

          • Russell Byrd

I have never murdered a baby. I do not know anyone that has. I believe women have a right to make their own decisions. They do not need or want my input. The same should go for you.

On the other hand, I want “real” children to be happy, healthy, be educated, and have opportunity. You want the fetuses that you force women to bear, to become starving children.

            Which of us is pro-life?

You always try to control conversation by changing topic again, and again. Unfortunately, you are not any good at making your point. As always, your argument is just based on what YOU want. To Hades with everyone else! Right?

          • lana ward

Liberals are murderers. It’s a child, not a choice

          • Russell Byrd

Liberals are not murderers. The only murderer around now is you.

Biblically, it is not a child.

In any case, it is not YOUR choice.

          • lana ward

LIAR!! Liberals ARE murderers. Killing an unborn baby is murder–and God who allowed the baby to be conceived is watching

          • Russell Byrd

And God can re-conceive the unborn, and God can stop this if He wanted, and if you want to commit blasphemy by telling God what He can and cannot do, then I think you should get your asbestos drawers ready for use.

As I said, Liberals believe in personal freedom, you believe you have a right to control. You are the real murderer, Liberals do not kill anyone.

          • lana ward

All dems are good at is spin, you’re no acception. You’re pretty good at it too!!! Does that make you proud??

          • Russell Byrd

What right-tard morons like you miss is, if you tell the truth, then replies become easier and spin is unnecessary. . . . :-)

          • lana ward

Everytime you answer it’s a lie

          • Russell Byrd

Every time you answer it’s a lie. Thanks for the my next answer. I threw in the edit for free. . . . :-)

          • Russell Byrd

By the way, unlike myself, you never address any common sense question you are asked. You just keep lying. Hell, as they say, is not half full. How many thousands times can you break Commandments, never ask for forgiveness, but still get into Heaven. I guess, you may as well keep lying, because your soul is already spoken for elsewhere.

          • lana ward

Sorry the truth hurts–not!! You can’t name ONE time OHitler has told the truth, because not ONE time has he told the truth.

          • Russell Byrd

So, what you just said is, the truth cannot hurt you. In other words, no matter how much truth we throw at your lies, you will not care at all. No surprise there.

As far as telling you anything, that is for you to do. You are the one that is doing all the anti-American whining. Obama tells the truth. Why should I care to quote anything to a illiterate whiner like you?

Why don’t you quote the EXACT lies YOU are talking [LYING] about?

          • lana ward

OHitler said he would get to the bottom of Fast and Furious, instead he put up road blocks. He said he wouldn’t rest until he got to the bottom of what really happened in Benghazi, instead he lies and covers up the truth. He said he would get to the bottom of the IRS targeting Conservatives and the Tea Party, nothings been done. He promised with OHitlercare, you can keep your own Dr , you can’t. He said we would save $2500 a year, instead people have seen their premiums double, some tripple!! A lot of Drs. are leaving their practice because of OHitlercare. Businesses are cutting workers hours to avoid paying the higher premiums of OHitlercare. He’s a LIAR. Not ONCE has he told the truth about anything!!! Tell me just ONE TIME he has told the truth–JUST ONE!!! You can’t, he hasn’t!!!!!!!!!!

          • Russell Byrd

The only liar here is you, ANAL OHITLER! Everyone of those lies you have told has been disposed of many, many times.

Businesses are cutting mostly to make a political statement that they think will force the ACA to fail.

There was not much beyond Repub desire for scandal at the bottom of “Fast and Furious.”

The IRS SHOULD be targeting conservaconartists that are posing as non-profits. NO T-Potty group actually qualifies as a charity. BY DEFINITION.

Drs. are not leaving their practices. The number of doctors is falling when compared as a percentage of need, but that has been happening for years.

You still are LYING about Obama. You still have not produced one lie.

            DONE, you’re busted, all ANAL O. lies disposed of. . . . :-)

          • lana ward

You really are one dumb freak. You wouldn’t believe the truth if it smacked you upside the head. We’ll see who knows what’s going on now, won’t we!! You are one ignorant deceived fool!!!

          • Russell Byrd

Anal Ohitler, we have been over this many, many, many times, and your arguments have always been found wanting.

Only a fool tries to predict the future using LIES.

I am quite happy with the truth, though it makes you writhe in pain. Well, that is what we are taught evil like yours will do.

          • lana ward

You are one dumb hopeless freak!!!

          • Russell Byrd

You should change your name to chicken-sh*t little. Always complaining the sky is falling and you haven’t enough sense to get out of the road.

          • lana ward

Beard(Michele) OHitlers Princeton classmate is the Executive at the company that built the OHitlercare site, no wonder it’s a COMPLETE failure!!! LOL

          • Russell Byrd

From this day forward the stinky closet queen f.k.a. anal draw, will henceforth be known as analdraw hitler. Doesn’t actually capture the propensity for stupidity, but it is fitting based on “its” attitude.

You know anal hitler (this is the shortened, affectionate form), why don’t you work to better the world, rather than sitting in your hidden closet and posting “stupid.”

          • lana ward

COMPLETE FAILURE!!! And it will get worse IF they ever get the site running!!! LOL

          • Russell Byrd

Anal O’Hitler, the crazed self-loathing closet queen, is not smart enough to realize that the site is working for the majority of the population.

How stupid are you, really? Don’t bother, you are very stupid. If it were not for the fact that it comes naturally, you would be too stupid to even breathe. I bet you have been wearing Depends since

          • lana ward

How stupid are you. The site IS NOT up and running!! OHitler said he has the smartest minds working on it. If he had chosen an American company to get it up and running in the first place, instead of Canadian, there would have been no problems to begin with. He would have had the smartest minds from the start!!! WHY did he chose Canada over America for his”signature achievement’ anyway, the dumb ass!!!!

          • Russell Byrd

No where as stupid as you. . . . Really, when everyone sees your name pop up, ANAL Ohitler, they automatically assume lies and nonsense. As well, your gender bending does not say much for yourself when you take the side of the very people that would stone you in a public place.

Long ago everyone, except for a few newbies, ceased to listen to anything you say. Most of us just string you along to see how much stupid you will produce. Yes, you are the pain in the a** that you want to be, but we know that we cannot actually get rid of you.

As I have always said, I never lie . . . unless it suits the situation, and then only on rare occasions. Unlike yourself, that lies as a vocation.

By the way, have you ever heard the old Eleanor Roosevelt joke. Well, let’s just say, the site will be running soon, but you will still be a liar.

P.S. A number of states are signing people up as we speak. Kentucky is going at about a thousand a day. So, I did not lie. :-)

          • lana ward

The site is not up and running right, that’s why Americans are working on it. Why would OHitler chose Canadians over Americans when America has the best software companies in the world?? You still didn’t answer, when has OHitler ever told the American people the truth??

          • Russell Byrd

Already answered multiple times, Mr. Anal Ohitler.

I have answered, many, many times. You are just too dishonest and stupid to bother or care to read.

On the other hand, actually give us a TRUE case where Obama is lying. You are the one making all the claims. False claims at that.

Really, why don’t you explain away all the lies that Gush, Fux, Insanity, Pecker, Boehner, McConnell, Ryan, Issa, etc., etc. have told.

Well? By the way, do you even have a job? With your sickening negativity, I cannot see you making a living even as a toady. Too dishonest and negative. . . .

          • lana ward

You really are an idiot. All things I said are things OHitler promised. He lied about everything. Just what is wrong with you. You so far up OHitlers ass you can’t see and hear what he has said and lied about?? You are a pitiful wit!!

          • Russell Byrd

Hold still, I see your legs kicking. I will be over in a minute to pull you out of Rupert Murdoch’s a**.

          • Russell Byrd

Actually, Delay has not been vindicated. He just has powerful friends.

As well, describe what your definition of communist is! It’s not anybody that thinks differently from that sack-o-crap named ANAL. Oops.

          • lana ward

Tom Delay is innocent, his accusers are liars!! Now we all know they’re ALL liars

          • Russell Byrd

No, we don’t. It was proven Delay was guilty, but friends in high places can get you out of deep sh*t with their pull and money. Ollie North was the same, and Reagan too, for that matter. Both committed treason, unless you buy the sh*t that Ronnie slept through everything.

          • lana ward

DeLay ISN’T guilty. Dems lied about him to get him out of Gov. That’s the only way they can defeat the opposition. And talk about sleeping , your muslim terrorist went to bed while 4 Patriot heros were being murdered in Benghazi. Sleep was more important to Little pansy queer boy who hates the Military and everything they stand for

          • Russell Byrd

DeLay IS guilty. Obama went to bed, because it was time for him to do so.

Where were your complaints when over 100 people were killed in 10 embassy attacks under Bush? Oh yeah, your puppeteers at Faux did not stick their hand up your sock puppet a** and make you wiggle.

ANAL, we all know that you are a posing, self-loathing, closet queer. That tension and hate that you keep bottled up is making you insane. No jokes on that point. . . .

          • lana ward

OHitler is a terrorist and a murderer, nothing will change that. Go bother someone else, freak

          • Russell Byrd

Why don’t you get up off your freakin’ a**, get the freak out of here, and go some freakin’ place else, and go freak your own freakin’ a** on someone else’s freakin’ doorstep? Do it, FREAK!

          • nirodha

I would certainly not want to have the karma that Delay has accrued.

          • Russell Byrd

I’m not wiping my butt with that rag. But, I would crap right on it if I had a chance!

“Anal” is really rather insane. No information whatsoever. Just wild claims of persecution. I think “she” has been ready for the “white jacket and tie” delivered by the people in white coats. I often use the term “going formal” when I think of Anal and “her” kin.

          • Eleanore Whitaker

When you think about it objectively, it’s important these days to correctly identify mental illness no matter at what level it becomes a problem. Raving, ranting, fanaticism, narcissism, schizoid sociopathy have retreated back to the 1600s when these kinds wandered the streets mouthing all manner of indistinct, unproven fiction. It’s how Hitler and the rest of the megalomaniacs rose to power.

          • nirodha

If you recall, when he was governor of California, Reagan closed down many residential institutions for the mentally deficient, and essentially turned them out onto the streets. It seems that certain people who post their unhinged rants here belong under psychiatric care which they are unable to get, because it does not fit in with the republicans’ “free market” drive to maximize profit, despite the human costs.

          • Russell Byrd

It is frightening, isn’t it? Yet, so true. If I may be so bold, I think you have described a lot of the world’s terrorists, and our very own domestic crazies to a “Tea.”

I have believed for some time that there is nothing, and no one, that is really “normal.” I have believed for some time that the average T-Pottier is more than halfway to a mental inquest. Yet, it is hard to concentrate on the fact that the entire concept of the T-Potty is one rooted in mental illness or mental deficiency.

Maybe, because it is so early in the morning, but you started me to thinking. Just how bad would it really get if these freaks of nature were to actually gain the control they seek? Could we throw them off? Would the average American care, if it meant taking some real action?

After all, the T-Potty is basically a primary function. They win all the low turn-out elections. Of course, why do average Repubs vote for the crazy TP candidates that win those primaries. If they could not vote for a Democrat, why don’t they stay home.

Repubs have often portrayed Democrats as party controlled automatons that vote automatically for the candidate selected by the party. Yet, it seems that this is a phenomenon that is more correctly a right-wing one.

I guess arrogance and ignorance carry more weight in right-wing circles. As has been said many times, “not all Conservatives are stupid, but most stupid people are conservative. At least they claim to be.

I enjoyed your well-reasoned reply, but I do find the connotations rather scary.

          • Russell Byrd

I think one of the problems with mental illness in general is our perception of it. For instance, I worked in a factory that was family owned. In other words, it was a sizable operation, but nothing like General Motors.

The Plant Manager of the building I worked in was incredibly abusive. He even physically assaulted employees, but was
allowed to get away with it. His philosophy was, “when employees are mad, they produce more.” His exact words. He also was always trying to entice people to be informers on their fellow employees.

What was the worst, however, was his propensity for lying. Everything was someone else’s fault. For instance, if an employee said a machine was unfit to run, he would force them to do so anyway. When it failed, often spectacularly and dangerously, he would immediately run to the head office to heap the blame on the employee. This went on everyday.

Manyof his employees, including myself, were complaining about being depressed. Some of the people were complaining about anxiety, as well. This crap was getting home to these people’s families. These people were walking into a hell everyday and suffering for it.

However, we all needed the job. The one thing the company had that was excellent, was their medical plan. A lot of our employees had family, but few other employment prospects, so they hung on in spite of poor pay, no (other) benefits, and bad treatment. Yet, it was literally killing some of them.

Those people that sought treatment were stigmatized by the company. (The owner’s daughter monitored everyone’s
medical records.) This just made matters worse. Several of our employees even threatened to kill the guy and were disciplined for it. Though no one was fired that I know of.

Now, to the point. This guy was a sociopathic, paranoid loon. However, he was happy and well adjusted at being an evil SOB. He asked for no help, therefore, he was considered NORMAL. The rest of us are pulling our hair out, begging for
help, and are considered mentally imbalanced, potentially dangerous psychotics. What was wrong with this picture?

I learned that NORMAL was not a word that really meant normal. How does this relate to theT-Potty? Most of their rank and file are out-right crazy, but as they are largely functional on a daily basis, no one gives a care (well, we do) until they cross that fine line into total insanity.

Hitler for instance, was a good example. He had more mental issues than just about anyone. Yet, he could appear to be quite functional on a day to day basis. Even attractive in a mesmerizing sort of way. So he attracted many other near dysfunctional individuals to his cause.

As to my former boss. When I “exited,” I made it very plain to the management, in writing, exactly what he was doing. I gave them more than a few examples of this guy’s dishonesty and meanness. I even told them that I knew he had a hard job, and that was why they tolerated him. I also knew that the owner apprenticed with this jerks father, and guaranteed him a job.

Did I do this with malice? Of course, but I did so calmly and stayed strictly to the facts. He had been the boss in that plant for seventeen years. He lasted eight weeks after I left. So justice did prevail. After an unacceptable level of damage had occurred.

Oh, and this may entertain you. The evil beast I have discussed was married to a forensic Psychologist that worked for the State’s Attorney General. Howinsane is that?

Ocare as you say it, has not failed at all. That is an outcome that may occur because of all you evil, beastly, moronic, hateful, bigoted, insane, racist, idiotic, conniving, vicious, sneaky, senseless, greedy, LIARS are working, like the MAGGOTS you are, to make it fail.

Even so, only a total fool would say that it HAS failed. That is what you want, and you are scared sh*tless that it will succeed, but FAILED, far from it.

Another good shutdown ANAL (lana) and we will not even answer your insane rants anymore. You T-Peckers will be DONE and no one will even bother sticking the fork in. You will go out in the trash where your insane a** belongs.

OHitler shut the Gov down because Republicans wanted to defund OHitlercare. Cry baby has to have things all his way or he punishes everyone. The sooner someone takes him out, the better!!!

Hitler is your hero and your life’s model hero. He has nothing to do with Obama, but he is a shining light to your racist compatriots.

I rather think it has always been the GOP that has done the crying. Cruz had his little tantrum at the cost of 28 billion to the U.S. citizenry. I mean real citizens, not treasonous scum like you.

The sooner someone takes you out, the better.

Ted Cruz is a true Patriot and is trying to save the country from that muslim terrorist in the WH. Real Americans are proud of what he did!!!

Raygunomics HAS killed the middle class. Instead of 10-20 to 1 income disparity between CEO’s and the top shareholders, hereinafter know as the TAKERS, AND the rank and file employees, hereinafter known as the WEALTH CREATORS (or “chumps” as you see them), the income disparity is from 1000-2000 to 1.

No nation can long endure this process of impoverishment of the vast majority of the people, in order to enrich a few greedy b*st*ards AND their evil *ss kisser minions like YOU.

You can’t defend OHitler much longer. His signature accomplishment is a complete failure.–and it will destroy the middle class. 5 years of him and the country is headed for hell. Give it up, loser!!!

NOT a reply to my post. Keep soap boxing. You sound like the gullible moron you are. Lapping up the rich man’s hype like a sh*t eating dog.

The ACA has just begun, and except for software glitches, is already proving to be a success. The glitches WILL get fixed, but your tired spiel will still be a pack of sick lies.

Just think, you have three more years of Obama, two of it will probably be under complete Democratic control. Then it will get even “better” with another Democrat president for at least 4-8 more years. You will probably explode, though that would help make your neighbors grass greener next summer.

Government is not working for the ‘people’, the taxpayers are!

    • Independent1

Pure BS. I’m really surprised that on the NM you got 4 thumbs up. I thought posters here would know better.
Exactly where do you think taxpayers would be today if Obama and ‘THE GOVERNMENT’ hadn’t provided monies for the auto bailout and stimulus back in 2009 to get the economy going again?? The taxpayers would be standing in bread lines. It was only doing those two things that kept America from falling into another world-wide GOP-created depression.
Where do you think a lot of taxpayer’s children would be today, those who couldn’t afford to go to college, if Obama (THE GOVERNMENT AGAIN), hadn’t taken it upon himself to cut banks out of the collegel loan process so millions more American kids could afford them?
And I could go on for quite a bit. Your comment is naive at best and ignorant at worst. You, like some other posters here are totally clueless about all the things THE GOVERNMENT DOES to make taxpayers LIVES BETTER!!! And even livable!!!

  • elw

Good point, I definitely would like to see an end to all the manufactured crisis’s that have filled the news the last few years. There are enough real issues to solve without the made up ones and enough real crisis with adding the stress of made up ones. In addition, as much as I disagree with the Conservative Right, it is getting painful to watch them commit suicide over and over again, so please give the Country a rest and take a break from the nonsense for the Holidays at least and actually get something done.

  • Germansmith

Well, nothing like stating the obvious
Cuts in budget are not popular.
    Taxes are not popular.
We get the government and the representatives we deserve.
Some politicians get elected by giving things away (as long as they do not pay for them)
Specially in a bad economy when people lose jobs and related benefits they would vote for anybody that would give them stuff….is just “government money”
Some politicians get elected by cutting taxes . If the economy is good and everybody is working and paying taxes, they mind that those taxes go to help the “permanently unemployed”. They will vote for the politician that promise to reduce their tax burden.

So look at employment and economic indicators to see who is to win the 2014 Congressional elections
Very few people vote with their conscience and integrity.

    • Independent1

“Some policiticans get elected by giving things away (as long as they do not pay for them).”
Being a GOP lover, my guess is, what you had in mind by “giving things away”, were “liberals’ working to provide benefits to the disadvantaged. Well sorry, but few of the things ‘liberals’ are wanting to provide to the disadvantaged can really be considered ‘GIVING THINGS AWAY”.
Even providing cell phones to the poor (which started with Reagan), is not ‘giving things away”. It’s been proven, that if government expects the poor to ever get out of poverty, the poor have to be able to get a meaningful job, and to do that, they need a phone that a company can call them back on should a hiring opportunity become available. So providing the poor with temporary cell phones, is the best way to get the poor off of welfare and for the government to save money in the long run.
And providing funding for programs such as Medicaid, which allows the poor to see a doctor and catch conditions that would end up being much more serious and possibly require hundreds of thousands of dollars in medical costs down the road, is also not ‘giving things away’. It’s actually a very cost effective means of keeping down future government costs.
And so it is with many of the other ‘Social Programs’ that the GOP seems fixated at cutting and eliminating – as is the norm, all the GOP knows how to do is cut off their nose to spite their face and fight for things that cost America BIG TIME later on.
Now, if you want to talk about polititians that really like to ‘give things way’ it’s mostly Republicans, who insist on either providing subsidies to corporations who are already making billions in profits, or to people who don’t really need them (tax cuts for the rich) that are ‘GIVING THINGS AWAY IN A BIG WAY’!!
And it’s also the politicians that sneak ear marks into legislation to pay for the military weapons or other projects which the Pentagon really never wanted, or their state really doesn’t need, that are ‘GIVING THINGS AWAY IN A BIG WAY!! And in case you haven’t noticed lately, its politicians like Cruz and other from mainly RED STATES, that are doing quite a bit of GIVING THINGS AWAY THAT THEY DO NOT HAVE TO PAY FOR!!

A Case for hope? Is Obama delusional? I was expecting some perfunctory contrition and token acceptance of responsibility from President Bystander during his Obamacare remarks in the Rose Garden today. I was wrong. The appearance was more of a pep rally, replete with upbeat promises and applauding supporters. Aides might as well have hung a large “mission accomplished” banner over Obama’s head. The fact that the Obamacare websites — a core element of the law functioning — are in total shambles and won’t be fixed for many weeks or even months were all but shrugged off as an
afterthought. I must give the man SOME credit though. He did admit that our federal employees were unfit for the job. Nothing new here! So now he’s bringing in qualified personnel from the private sector to fix it. After all, Amazon fills millions of orders an hour, 24/7 without so much as a glitch.

    • Independent1

Anyone who didn’t think there would be some level of glitches in the website rollout of ACA is absolutely delusional. NO internet rollout is free of glitches, especially considering the rollout of a website that’s suppose to handle nationwide enrollment of insurance type products which in and of themselves are complex. Admittedly, the rollout has seen more glitches than probably should have been expected, but as with almost anything of this nature, many are making far more of it than it deserves.

And despite the glitches, as of last Saturday, more than 500,000 applications for healtchare policies had been processed via the ACA website and exchanges. These include policies processed through the almost 30 some states that have made the effort to build their own ACA exchange websites. Here’s a little blurb on the successes from an article on how well the exchanges are working in Kentucky:

Though the federal HealthCare.gov appears to face serious technical problems, state-run marketplaces like Kentucky appear adept at quickly fixing problems and are successfully enrolling people. In Kentucky, 10,766 applications for health coverage were initiated on the first day and “6,909 completed and 2,989 families were enrolled.” Nearly 150,000 New Yorkers have signed up for Obamacare and 35,528 enrollments were completed in three weeks in Washington state.

So like so many other things, GOP lovers are delusionally going around trying to spread lies and distortions about a disaster that’s NO DISASTER, just like all the scandals that Rep Issa tried to create fizzled like lead balloons!!!!!!!!

      • bhaggen

Some level of glitches? The calculator, something that has been on every computer since the 70s, doesn’t even work. The “hotline” refers you back to the website. Oh, but look, we’ve got Ms Smurf from Delaware here; only took her 8 hours according to CNN. Obama’s a regular Ron Popeil. It slices, it dices, & makes margaritas too! I couldn’t keep my old plan, as Obama had promised, so now under the “affordable” care act my insurance has DOUBLED! As Jon Stewart (not a GOP lover) put it, “How are the Democrats gonna spin THIS turd?”

        • Independent1

The fact that your insurance doubled couldn’t be because you live in one of the red states that refused to do anything about setting up competitive insurance exchanges could it?? And if you tell me you live in one of the 20 some states that did make an effort to do that, many which have negotitated competitive rates that are as much as 50% lower, I’m going to call you a liar!!

          • bhaggen

Last time I checked, Californicate was NOT a red state. My Blue Shield is going from $390/mo $2500ded to $500/mo $5000ded so bite me bitch! I also happen to despise BOTH parties, so suck it!
I’m callin you on that 500,000 figure; even the President used the term “in the thousands”. Last “official” figure I can find is 48,500 enrolled.

      • Independent1

And it’s not just hope in the ACA, it’s hope in America’s future. Here’s an article about jobs returning to America; after almost 2 decades of companies like Bain that Mitt Romney headed which tried to destroy America by destroying companies in America and shipping their jobs overseas. You can take your typical GOP negativism and peddle it elsewhere – it’s going nowhere on the NM:

The trend of companies relocating American manufacturing jobs to low-wage China has started to reverse, as shown by recent decisions by Apple Inc., General Electric Co, Caterpillar, DSM, General Motors and even Chinese electronics giant Lenovo to scale up operations here.

The bottom line: For the first time in decades, several key economic drivers have created a competitive advantage for the U.S. that will encourage corporate strategic decisions on capital allocation and acquisitions for generations to come.

Just uncovered one more of your lies – federal employees were never involved in writing the code for the the ACA website – which is why the PRIVATE SECTOR CONTRACTORS ARE TESTIFYING BEFORE CONGRESS CLAIMING THEY DIDN’T HAVE ENOUGH TIME TO CHECK OUT THEIR CODE. DO PEOPLE LIKE YOU EVER STOP LYING????

      • bhaggen

Sorry, ya got me on THAT one. I must have misunderstood what the President meant by “our people”. The administration disregarded the warnings that the program was NOT ready for prime time. $634 million and 3 years? Federal employees were never involved? Who hired these people? I ALSO must have misunderstood him when he said my costs would DECREASE with his plan. He said it would be as easy as ordering a TV on Amazon! When your political point becomes a punch line for the liberals on late night talk shows & NBC anchors, you have a problem my friend!

        • Independent1

Yah! And I’m not at all sure that this fiasco with the super bad coding of healthcare webstite isn’t the GOP’s doing. Private contractors are mostly right-wing leaning – it’s hard for me to believe that any set of programmers could have created such a mess without it being intentional.

And if you’re so bad at doing research that you couldn’t find that more than 89,000 ACA policies had been processed, then I give your claims that you can’t find a better policy on ACA than you’re claiming just one more example of your poor research ability.

Here’s a recent article which shows that New York has signed up 150,000 by itself.

          From a CNN Interview

Though the federal HealthCare.gov appears to face serious technical problems, state-run marketplaces like
Kentucky appear adept at quickly fixing problems and are successfully enrolling people. In Kentucky, 10,766 applications for health coverage were initiated on the first day and “6,909 completed and 2,989 families were enrolled.” Nearly 150,000 New Yorkers have signed up for Obamacare and 35,528 enrollments were completed in three weeks in Washington state.

“Take a deep breath,” Beshear told CNN. “The only thing that really isn’t working right now on the federal level is the website. I’ll guarantee you that whether it’s a week from now, a month
from now, two months from now, they’ll get it up and they’ll get it working. People will be signing up.”

          • bhaggen

Didn’t the President state that I could keep my present policy AND it would be cheaper? Yes or no? I’m pretty good with research, but one can’t trust just any source. I figured the CDC would be trustworthy but I couldn’t find jack on their site. Only 37,000 have enrolled in New York. Where the F##k did you come up with 150,000? I’m gonna refrain from calling you a liar as you did me because I don’t roll that way & there’s very little reliable info out there. According to Forbes only 2 states, Kentucky and Washington, have had success, but they’re the exception.

          • Independent1

What do you mean, where did I come up with 150,000 – CAN’T YOU READ??? New York processed 150,000 applications – YOU’RE FORGETTING DIMWIT THAT ALMOST 20 STATES ARE RUNNING THEIR OWN EXCHANGES AND THAT THE 89,0000 NUMBER YOU HAD WAS PROBABLY WHAT WAS PROCESSED VIA THE ACA WEBSITE THAT’S HAD ALL THE PROBLEMS!! But the individual states that are running their own websites have handled over 400,000 additional applications.
And when the President said you could keep your existing policy, HE WAS TALKING ABOUT PEOPLE WHO HAD BONAFIDE HEALTH INSURANCE POLICIES – POLICIES THAT REALLY COVERED SOMETHING. THE PEOPLE WHO ARE GETTING THEIR POLICIES CANCELLED AND MAYBE ARE HAVING TO PAY INCREASED PREMIUMS ARE PEOPLE WHO HAD POLICIES THAT WEREN’T WORTH THE PAPER THEY WERE PRINTED ON!!!
The ACA legislation should not require that anyone should have to change doctors or policies, EXCEPT WHEN THE POLICIES PEOPLE HAD WERE WORTHLESS!! Policies that had huge deductibles, or excluded numerous illnesses that weren’t covered, or had ridiculously low maximum lifetime coverage, like maybe 25,000 dolllars. YES 25,000 MAXIMUM COVERAGE ISN’T WORTH BOTHERING GETTING COVERAGE FOR. I went just had an operation where I went in at 8:30 in the morning and got out at 2:30 in the afternoon and the bill from the Hospital was $17,000 for 6 hours of care.
So what exactly do you think a policy with a 25,000 lifetime max would do for anyone??? NOTHING!!! It certainly wouldn’t have helped one Iota with the problem ACA was trying solve – keep people from foisting their healthcare cost on everyone else!!!!!

          • bhaggen

“No matter how we reform health care, we will keep this promise to the American people: If you like your doctor, you will be able to keep your doctor, period! If you like your health care plan, you’ll be able to keep your health care plan, period! No one will take it away, no matter what. Again, the Affordable Care Act is for people who aren’t happy with their current plan. If you like what you’re getting, keep it. Nobody is forcing you to shift.”

President Barack Obama 2009, at the annual conference of the American Medical Association

Ain’t she a beauty? Only driven to church on Sundays by a sweet little old lady.

          • Independent1

And ACA does exactly what you just said. Nothing in ACA forces doctors to refuse to continue seeing patients; nor forces insurance companies to drop coverage. Unfortunately, Doctors and Insurance companies are not puppets. Despite the fact that Barak Obama would prefer that doctors not choose to drop patients because they take a dislike to some aspects of ACA IS NOT OF HIS DOING. Nor is it of Barak Obama’s doing that companies are now realizing that insurance policies they sold hundreds of thousands of people in the past were in reality not worth the $2-300/month they were charging people because of all the caveats they included which would have resulted in the majority of the people insured actually getting very little return for their premiums. I worked for a health insurer for 30 years and over those years did a lot of actuarial studies which showed that many of the polices we had offered were providing very little benefits to the insureds. And I’m fairly confident in telling you, any individual policy sold in the past that had a premium less than $400/month (unless you were in your teens), was not worth the paper it was printed on with respect to actually returning you enough benefits to warrant the premium you were paying.

          • Independent1

One thing I’ve forgotten to mention in previous posts is that a lot of what Obama said that you’ve been posting, was said before and during the development of the ACA legislation; and given that the GOP insisted on submitting well over 300 amendments to ACA, 189 of them which were enacted in the bill, Obama obviously did not get everything that he was wanting included in the bill. He signed it because he knew that trying to negotiate even further with the GOP would risk not even getting something passed. EVERYONE WITH AN OUNCE OF COMMON SENSE KNOWS THAT ACA IS NOT PERFECT AND NEEDS TO BE CHANGED. TRYING TO BLAME OBAMA FOR SOME SHORTCOMINGS IN THE BILL IS HYPOCRICY AT IT’S WORST!!!
So stop blaming Obama for aspects of the bill which doctors and insurance companies may not like, or which may cause them to drop patients or insurance policies WHICH MAY WELL BE DUE TO ONE OR MORE OF THE 189 AMENDMENTS THAT THE GOP HAD ADDED TO ACA!!!

Interesting that the article would begin with a quote from Debs, a radical who founded his party with a Communist, Hillquit.

What was it that this Liberal hero said? Oh, yes: “From the crown of my head to the soles of my feet I am a Bolshevik, and proud of it.”

    Yup, a Liberal hero!
