A prolific online troll and former intern of Milo Yiannopoulos has been charged with first-degree murder after allegedly stabbing his father to death in his Washington home. According to audio of the incident obtained by the Daily Beast, 33-year-old Lane Davis set upon his father after the latter called him a Nazi. “He’s chasing us around the house,” Davis’ mother told a police dispatcher. “He’s mad about something on the internet about leftist pedophiles and he thinks we’re leftist and he’s calling us pedophiles, and I don’t know what-all.”

Davis has entered a plea of not guilty, and his trial is scheduled for January.

The Samish Island native fits a disturbing if increasingly familiar profile. After dropping out of Washington State University in 2004, he developed a following on YouTube peddling conspiracy theories that ran the gamut from 9/11 being an inside job to vaccines causing autism. By 2014, he had become a fixture in Gamergate, a campaign of online harassment of women in the video game industry that included doxxing and death threats. Davis would ultimately renounce his fellow travelers in the movement, but that did not stop him from targeting Joshua Idehen, whose manager, agent and charity he contacted accusing the London musician of pedophilia.

Shortly thereafter, Davis began working for Milo Yiannopoulos, with whom he co-wrote an article accusing the MacArthur Foundation of promoting censorship on social media. Yiannopoulos, who was recently outed for his close collaboration with prominent neo-Nazis and members of the alt-right, has since released the following statement to the Daily Beast:

“Mr. Davis was a volunteer for me for a brief period of time prior to my founding Milo, Inc. I was unhappy with his work and discontinued the relationship. I then experienced his anger firsthand as he threatened me and later went to Buzzfeed making false and inaccurate accusations.”

Davis parlayed his short tenure at Breitbart into an unpaid blogging gig at a far-right website called, which features such verticals as “SJW Insanity” and “Campus Crazies,” and whose editor, Ethan Ralph, is serving an eight-month sentence in Loudon County, Virginia, for assaulting a police officer. Ralph’s wife pledged to remove all of Davis’ stories, which he posted under the name Seattle4Truth.

A fervent Trump supporter, Davis had grown increasingly agitated in recent months, so much so that his father had taken to recording his rage-fueled outbursts on his phone. On the day of his arrest, the Daily Beast reports Davis “retweeted posts celebrating the Second Amendment, bemoaning diversity, and spreading conspiracy theories that alleged Hillary Clinton’s campaign chairman John Podesta was involved in a child sex ring and DNC staffer Seth Rich had been murdered.”

“He just lives on the internet and he gets really worked up about everything that’s going on,” his mother told police. “He needs an intervention of some kind here.”

Minutes later, her husband was bleeding to death on the back porch, and her son had raised his hands in the air, awaiting his arrest.

  1. Sam Bufalini says:

A basic legal point your editors should know: It’s not a murder until a jury says it is and a judge agrees. Until then it’s a homicide. You might not like this guy, but he’s not a murderer … yet.

    • Marilyn says:

I don’t think he was called a murderer anywhere in this piece but he was charged with first-degree murder.

      • Sam Bufalini says:

        Did you read the headline?

        • Marilyn says:

Yes, I did That was what he was arrested for. That was the charge I don’t think I have ever heard the expression that someone was arrested for homicide. Usually someone is called a person of interest or if the facts seem strong enough, then the suspect is charged and that charge is listed. We hear the terms “homicide investigation” but not “homicide charge.”

          • Sam Bufalini says:

Look, I’ve been a copy editor for almost 50 years. The correct headline would be:

‘Alt-Right’ Figure charged with murder in father’s killing

As written the headline convicts the man before he’s had his day in court. It’s the kind of headline that could find a copy editor standing before a judge facing a possible contempt charge.

          • You’re not unlike a lot of “Africans” whose ancestors settled in Europe after migrating out of Africa. By that I mean your insistence on semantics overshadows your ability to comprehend the heinous act committed.

Like the arguments by Jews and Arabs about rather Abraham sacrificed Ishmael or Isaac, they forget about Abraham’s conundrum of being forced to choose whom to sacrifice, which is the heart of the story—NOT who was sacrificed.

And here you are obsessed with how a title of an article describing a man who murdered his father should be worded. The bigger issue you should try to focus on is the entire rabid and diseased atmosphere which the Alt-Right has created.

          • Sam Bufalini says:

I am “obsessed” with obeying the law as it regards journalism. I’m happy to admit this guy is a monster, but if he’s an American he has the right to a fair trial, whatever you might think.

          • Eleanore Whitaker says:

You fool no one Bufalini. You can pick up any Metro area paper or media outlet sight. When a man is dead and the police make an arrest, the charge is MURDER. Not manslaughter.

Stop trying to enable others to fall for BS.

          • Sam Bufalini says:

You’re right, the charge is murder. But to say in a headline, before the trial, that he has commited a murder is simply bad journalism. Suppose a jury finds him not guilty by reason of insanity.

          • Eleanore Whitaker says:

I am the last one to deny this POS due process of the law. But, I am also not an enabler who allows the ONLY perp at the scene of a crime and a dead body to believe he found a tiny mouse hole to escape through.

A jury in today’s climate will not find a 33 year old MAN innocent by reason of insanity. When did his insanity start? Or is this going to be first trial when a Trump alibi gets a murdering fool off?

I stand by my post. I can post similar headlines from various other sites and papers that have no reservations about calling a child molester arrested for molesting children what he is.

Your posts want an excuse for “why” this bad Daddy had to endure a 33 year old ADULT more excuses for childish behavior.

From the mother’s remarks, this sounds like another Mommy Mary Ann and Donny Boy Trump relationship. What next? Saying he was protecting his Mommy from Daddy? While he ate up every hateful thing on the internet Trump spews out every day?

Thank you for giving and enabling Trump fanatics an excuse for killing their parents. I am sure you will now feel oh so safe with YOUR adult children who want you gone.

          • Sam Bufalini says:

Ms Whitaker, why are you attacking me personally when we’re discussing the law here? This is a matter of jurisprudence, not politics. In any case, this will be my last comment in this conversation. My original comment was directed at the editors of this site, who presumably should know better, not its readers.

          • Eleanore Whitaker says:

Oh puhlease. I’ve been a freelance tech writer and novelist for more than 4 decades.

Obviously the state you live in is not NY or NJ. We print headlines like this EVERY DAY. Where have you been?

          • Sam Bufalini says:

Please, cite a headline from an American daily newspaper, not a political site, that fits your description. Again, I agree this guy is a monster who no doubt killed his father, but there are laws that journalists must abide by. That’s while all major news sites keep lawyers on call to vet potentially libelous heads and copy.

          • Eleanore Whitaker says:

…Want more? …These are only a few in major Newspapers online and off.…Sorry Sam. But you can’t be right all the time. As a freelance writer, I understand journalism as well as you do. I’ve ghost written more than 6,000 online articles and in my early years back in the 60s provided local and state newspapers with feature articles.

The Courier and NY Post are not political sites. And do you call CBC local a political site too just to prove you can’t ever be wrong?

You men of a certain age need to stop your damn bullying and trying to prove you are NEVER wrong.

          • Sam Bufalini says:

But don’t you see, the Courier headline illustrates my point.

Third person charged in Camden murder

They did not write: Third murderer charged … It’s a crucial distinction that copy editors learn early.

I’ve been called a lot of things before, but certainly not a bully.

          • Eleanore Whitaker says:

All we can do is feel pity for men like you. So many women have allowed you to be Numero Uno who can’t ever be defied, contradicted or disagreed with that you know believe you are always right.

YOU, not I, asked for similar headlines. I provided them. Now because you have a grossly insecure need to always be right, especially when it is a woman who is proving your wrong with your own words in your post, you twist the facts.

I feel sorry for men like you. Why? Because I know when you are wrong, like Trump, McCONMan, Lyin’ Ryan, Weasel Sessions and Boozer Boy Bannon, you are not man enough to say these words EVER: “Sorry. I was wrong.”

Get thee to a confessional. Penance is a great form of self contrition and hopefully you will be absolved of your insecure need to be omnipotence personified.

          • Sam Bufalini says:

Ad hominem attacks do not advance your case.

          • Eleanore Whitaker says:

Men with your mentality need a full effacement before you make judgments of any woman. A woman brought you here. Try it sometime. Then tells how how that 20 seconds men like you invest in the birth process was so laborious.

I stand on the courage of my convictions that men who do and will not admit when they are wrong are cowards.

Funny how the most Neanderthalic men in this country pepper their posts with words like “attack” when you guys left your prehistoric caves with clubs ready to attack TRex. You didn’t win that battle and your attacks failed then, just as they will fail now to stop women from fighting for what we know is right.

The problem with men like you is your inability to severe your biased gender proclivities long enough to see when you are wrong. Wake up. You put a sexual predator in the White House who can only marry women desperate for money. They used to call men like that “pimps.”

            Time for some mental maturity.

          • Sam Bufalini says:

As with Ms Whitaker, I ask you to cite a headline from a major daily or broadcast news site that uses the word “murderer” (not just “murder,” to describe an accused before he has his day in court. I agree, this guy is a monster, he did it and will burn for it, but until he gets his day in court U.S. law says he has been “charged with murder,” not convicted of it. I’m not sure I can put this more clearly.

      • Eleanore Whitaker says:

Duh…Is his father dead? Did Mommy do it for Sonny boy? If not, someone is a murderer. I am sure the judge will take into consideration that being a Trump supporter, this murdering fanatic was just “draining the swamp” of “establishment.”

    • dbtheonly says:

Article points out trial is scheduled for January. Also does use the “allegedly”, so common in news stories.

  2. Dapper Dan says:

So this is the kind of people listening to Steve Bannon. These mentally unstable people believe every conspiracy theory under the rock. While lamenting the unborn being slaughtered in the womb they don’t hesitate to kill even their own family members. I seriously think people are having a major mental break and this loudmouth in the WhiteHouse isn’t helping

  3. dpaano says:

    Another Trumpster….are we not surprised?

  4. The activities of the Alt-Right and its followers should serve as a vivid and dismal reminder of the decadence of a morbid condition infecting all who subscribe to this nihilist outlook of a small group of males with light complexion, and who for some strange reason think their pigmentation has some magical properties that suggests to them that they have a right to act like asses and savage beasts. Nothing could be further from the truth as to what is expected of us.

Is this what the Alt-Right think is their purpose for existence—to promote the decay of society by embracing an attitude that they have the purpose in life to be like beasts??

This sad tragedy, Milo’s degenerate nature, Bannon’s abysmal confusion as to what his purpose for existence is, Trump’s alarming amorality, screams volumes of a segment of society intent on transforming themselves into the very opposite of the purpose for why they were created. And since the current status quo Religions are no longer able to inform them of the purpose of our creation, it is my responsibility as a Baha’i to at least point my brothers and sisters whatever their current state of mind of why we’ve been created.

The short version is that humans were created to carry forward an ever-advancing civilization by working towards a recognition and acceptance of the Vision by Baha’u’llah that “all humanity are members of the same human family”. To regard one’s self as being more important than his/her fellow human being is forbidden. This should have been apparent to even a casual follower of any of the Religions previously revealed. But apparently, this Message is not reaching the hearts of such as the Alt-Right.

“O CHILDREN OF MEN! Know ye not why We created you all from the same dust? That no one should exalt himself over the other. Ponder at all times in your hearts how ye were created. Since We have created you all from one same substance it is incumbent on you to be even as one soul, to walk with the same feet, eat with the same mouth and dwell in the same land, that from your inmost being, by your deeds and actions, the signs of oneness and the essence of detachment may be made manifest. Such is My counsel to you, O concourse of light! Heed ye this counsel that ye may obtain the fruit of holiness from the tree of wondrous glory.”

  5. Eleanore Whitaker says:

33 years old and still living off Mommy and Daddy’s Social Security and Medicare? Another lazy bum who thinks it should all be handed to him on a silver platter.

There is nothing wrong with adult children moving back to the nest when they pull their own weight. Bums like this sit on their butts all day and then have the gall to bitch at their parents who paid their life dues for decades?

Now that Boozer Boy Bannon is on a dry drunk which can make the alky far nastier sober than drunk, his idea is to empower punks like this.

If I was his daddy I would have this bum committed to a mental institution. Or insist that a judge pronounce a lifelong sentence of deprogramming.

Where these middle aged punks ever got the idea they would boss their parents around is a mystery.

  6. 1standlastword says:

This is a gift from heaven against MAGA! Throw this mutant in prison before the campaign season ends so he can be made the poster child for Trumpism. Republicans would stoop to this level and if Moderates want to defeat this scourge they need to weaponize stories like this. He’s the kind of guy Trump would appoint as secretary for DHHS
