Obstructing, denouncing, and demonizing Barack Obama are so central to the existence of the Republican Party today that its leaders simply ignore the real purposes of the president’s proposed immigration orders. So someone should point out that his imminent decision will advance priorities to which the Republican right offers routine lip service: promoting family values, assisting law enforcement, ensuring efficient government, and guarding national security.

Much of the argument for immigration reform, and in particular the president’s proposed executive orders, revolves around the imperative of compassion for immigrant families. That is a powerful claim — or should be, at least, for the self-styled Christians of the Republican right. If they aren’t moved by empathy for struggling, aspiring, hard-working people, however, then maybe they should just consider the practicalities.

America is not going to deport millions upon millions of Latino immigrants and their families to satisfy Tea Party prejudices, even if that were possible. Attempting to do so would be a gigantic waste of taxpayers’ money, an unwelcome burden on thousands of major employers, and an inhumane disgrace with international consequences, none of them good. It might or might not be “legal,” but it would surely be stupid.

Instead the Obama administration aims to relieve the terrible pressure on immigrant laborers and their children, and to direct resources where they will best accomplish national objectives, by deporting serious felons and other illegal entrants who may endanger security. By insisting on those broad yet clear distinctions, the president will protect the innocent and prosecute the not-so-innocent – exactly what he should be doing with the support of Congress.

Those wise objectives don’t interest the congressional majority, compared with the chance to rile their base by muttering threats against Obama. Just the other day, a tweet appeared under the name of Chuck Grassley, long among the dimmer members of the Senate, warning that the president is “flagrantly violating his oath” and “getting dangerously close to assuming a Nixonian posture.” For the Iowa Republican, that’s subtlety. In case you missed it, he was blustering about impeachment, and he isn’t alone.

Like so many of the familiar accusations against the president, complaints that his executive orders on immigration are “Nixonian” or “lawless” lack merit. Such orders are well within the recognized authority of his office, and considerably more conservative than the official conduct of some of his predecessors, such as George W. Bush – who issued about a hundred more executive orders than Obama has done so far.

With respect to constitutional principle, the camouflage favored by Obama’s antagonists, their flexibility is telling. The separation of powers only matters when they say so. They say nothing when the president uses executive orders to tighten immigration and deport more people than all his predecessors combined. Indeed, when the outcome pleases Republicans, then nobody needs to worry about executive overreach, let alone high crimes and misdemeanors.

Nor does a presidential executive order – even one granting “amnesty” to immigrant children – trouble the Republicans when a Republican president implements that kind of reform. When Presidents Ronald Reagan and then George H.W. Bush took action to keep immigrant families together during their respective administrations, refusing to wait for Congress to move, there was no barking from the likes of Grassley. (According to The Hill, the two GOP presidents made those adjustments following the passage of the 1986 Immigration Reform and Control Act, which created a “path to citizenship” for about 3 million undocumented workers. It was signed by the sainted Reagan.)

Republicans in the Senate and House have rejected every legislative opportunity on immigration, including measures to strengthen border security. That’s because they prefer partisan confrontation – and that is what they will get. The consequences for their party promise to be politically devastating – and still worse if they are foolish enough to believe their own rhetoric about impeachment.

When efforts to save our economy from collapse, when implementing a healthcare programs designed to provide preventive medical care to people who never had it before because they could not afford it, when fighting for equality, and when fighting for desperately needed immigration law reform become articles of impeachment in the minds of so many Americans, I think it is fair to say that we are decidedly moving in the wrong direction. What happened to the days when Republicans and Democrats tried to find common ground and compromised on issues that were, sometimes, anathema to their respective orthodoxies? What happened to the days when Republicans became champions of environmental issues and major government endeavors such as the construction of the national highway system, and Democrats supported progressive welfare reform? What happened to our purported “Christian values”, at a time when loving thy fellow man, compassion, tolerance, and helping the poor and the infirm are considered four letter words?
The truth is that over hatred, intolerance, greed, and political priorities designed to win elections and deflect attention from a dismal record are more important to some among us than doing what is best for the American people and for our country.
Instead of demonizing the poor with images of a welfare Queen driving her Cadillac to the welfare office, shouldn’t we try to determine the root causes for the plight of so many Americans at a time when our economy is growing at 4.6% per quarter, when unemployment is down, when good paying jobs are going to foreign professionals because most of our unemployed don’t have the skills needed to fill those vacancies? How about a major retraining program? Funding nurseries so that single mothers can go to work knowing that their kids are being taken care of and are fed two meals a day? How about recognizing the contributions of undocumented immigrants to our economy and pursue solutions that do not necessarily mean amnesty, permanent residency and a path to citizenship?
Instead of the destructive and vengeful solutions being advanced by the disciples of the anti-Christ, the most greedy among us, the most intolerant and hateful, and those whose ideological convictions border on fanaticism and paranoia, we, the majority, put forth meaningful, comprehensive, and progressive ideas designed to help everyone, strengthen our economy, encourage job creation, repair and modernize our infrastructure, educate those who have been left behind, even when their plight is the result of their own decisions, and do everything we can to protect our national security?

      Excellent! Thank you!

Can I add one thing…The Keystone pipeline will produce a net of about 300 jobs…these people will monitor the SCADA that will monitor the pipeline. What’s really galling, is that the POTUS put forth an Infrastructure Jobs Bill that would put 3-5million Americans to work, rebuilding America. The Republicans have said no to American work and workers and yes to Canadian oil…what does the Constitution say about all enemies….foreign and domestic? At this time, I am ready to call the Republican party and their leadership what the are…DOMESTIC TERRORIST! THEIR ATTEMPTS TO BRING DOWN THIS GOVERNMENT, TO ME, IS TREASON.
Don’t get me wrong, I left the Democratic Party…when 25% of your Caucus runs from their party leader and the leadership, puts pressure, on the POTUS, to delay, delay, delay, their base was not happy. If you look at the Democratic leadership, they are a passive bunch, more like The Over The Hill Gang, than a fired up, take no prisoner leadership.

      • God. Just how blind and stupid do you have to be NOT to see that this fraud is destroying our country? I would say that anyone supporting the “fundamental transformation of America” are traitors, to America and its people. The Emperor is the biggest threat to America we have ever had. He Is a liar, a fraud, and an enemy to our way of life, and I can not wait to see him standing in front of a firing squad.

        • Eleanore Whitaker

Ignore this troll. He sits all day at his computer and has No job, other than calling the president a liar…which he knows he can’t prove in a court of law by a jury of his peers.

He hates Obama because Obama takes away all of little KennyboyDebbyGirls opportunities to rip the rest of us off like he does his McParents from whom he gets the lions’ share of the SS and Medicare.

          • Good one from the vile, nasty, stupid hag that lurks on the National Memo. I doubt you even know what a job is. You seem to make things up as you go, but lying is the norm for liberals, so you do fit in.

          • Independent1

And there goes Satan spouting off again!!!! I hope you ready for Hell because you’re going to be in it!!!

          • DAVE in VA

Independent, I don’t know who has given you the authority to judge on who is going to Heaven or who is going to Hell. The only one who has that say is Jesus, The King of Kings and Lord of Lords, EYERY knee will bow and EVERY tongue will confess that Jesus is Lord of ALL.
The word of GOD says that you must be Born Again. John 3:3 Jesus answered and said to him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God.
GOD is neither in favor of either party, Republican or Democrat . The only thing that he wants is for his people to LOVE him and do his will on earth. We can not be saved by good works or by anything else. The first step is asking JESUS too FORGIVE us of our SINS and to come into our lives and be our Lord and SAVIOR, by confessing our SINS and turning from our wicked ways.
Independent, I hope that some day we can sit down in Heaven and have a non political conversation.

          • Independent1

kenndeb knows what I’m talking about, its pathological lying!!

I’m not judging, I’m stating a fact. Remember Jesus brother James tells us that if you sin one thing, you sin in

And kenndeb continuously lies in an effort to deceive people. And here’s the list of those who will be thrown in the fire. Not that LIARS is in the last one in the list.

            Revelation 21:8

But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.

          • jmprint

Dave there have been guzillion born-again christian, that go about their merry way and commit crimes. If the spirit is not in the heart the born again rhetoric is just that.

          • DAVE in VA

We are saved by GOD’S grace. That doesn’t mean that we will not sin again. We are imperfect people, It’s a daily battle between good and evil. God had given us his only son, because we couldn’t pay the price because of our sinful mature. It’s the shed blood of Jesus that washes away ALL our sin’s.

          • MrMustard1

Yes, the disconnect from Tea Party is astounding. W. Bush, and Reagan added $14.6 trillion to our debt, but that’s never mentioned.

America pays twice as much for health care, and we’re the only industrialized country not to guarantee care for all, but that is never mentioned.

            W. Bush hid the operating costs of the two wars from the operating budgets, listing them as special expenditures but that is never mentioned.

Republicans fear government, yet have no problem with banks and health care co’s. literally stealing from Americans, but that’s okay with them.

I know government is not perfect, but at least it has the constitution to try and guide it.

Massive, corporations have only by-laws and profit-motive to guide them, and most show zero social responsibility to the country which allows them to be so prosperous.

Lastly, the actual Boston Tea Party was a revolt against taxation without representation, due to King George (gov’t) giving favors to East India Tea Co. (corporation), and the new Tea Party thinks monopolistic corporations are just great.

            Amazing, sad and dangerous.

The profit motive is both a great motivator and a great destroyer of society.

Everyone, everything with great power must have checks and balances, including, no especially private enterprise.

Frack, this is tiresome – cause Benghazi! Auggh.

Talk about blind!!! You have you’re head up your rectum so far you’d blow your brains out if you sneezed!!!!!!

        • dtgraham

A firing squad? Look, I get that you think your party has better ideas on a number of issues, but you really can’t shoot your political opponents on that basis. You’re not talking impeachment, you’re talking capital punishment. On what possible grounds are they going to shoot the guy?

          • My party WAS the democratic party, until the liberals quietly moved the party to the far left. Now it is the new communist party. We had wars to stop communism, now the dems are embracing it. I will never support a party leaning so far left. Both parties are corrupt, and self serving, but right now, all any true American has is the republican party.
I see the Emperor as the greatest threat America has ever had. His entire life is cloaked in secrecy, and lies. Once light is shown upon all his lies and deceit , he will be outed as a true enemy of America, and should be made an example of, for all future tyrants with the idea of deceiving the American people.

          • My party WAS the democratic party, until the liberals quietly moved it past far left to become the new communist party. We fought wars against the spread of communism. Both parties are corrupt and self serving, but the republicans are the only party left for real Americans to support. Anyone supporting the transformation of America into soviet style communist government are traitors to their country and the American way of life.

          • Dominick Vila

You were a Democrat until the Civil Rights movement, at which time you became a far right Republican because the latter represents your “values” a lot better than a party that focuses on freedom, democracy, equal opportunity and the rule of law for everyone, rather than just for the privileged ones.

          • dtgraham

You can’t blame me for being a little skeptical kenndeb. If the Democrats were really the “new communist party” and were actually trying to transform America into a Soviet style knockoff society, wouldn’t all private capital have been confiscated, and the means of production been entirely transferred to the public sphere in those first two years of the Obama Presidency? I still haven’t seen anything like that. In fact, I think the people on Wall street and the health insurance industry CEO’s would probably tell you that Obama has been the world’s worst socialist.

It’s sort of the same thing when I hear Obama being called the anti-Christ by the right. If he were really the anti-Christ I think he probably would have gotten more legislation passed but that’s just me.

        • Dominick Vila

A few weeks ago you wished ISIS terrorists would assassinate President Obama, now you can’t wait to see him in front of a firing squad. Are you sure you are not an old KGB spy or an Al Qaeda operative? If not, consider emergency psychiatric care.

          • Remember Khrushchev?

“We will take America without firing a shot…….We will BURY YOU! We can’t expect the American People to jump from Capitalism to Communism, but we can assist their elected leaders in giving them small doses of Socialism, until they awaken one day to find that they have Communism. We do not have to invade the United States, we will destroy you from within.”
Ever see the Manchurian candidate? The Emperor seems to fit the bill.

And just how much of this is now true under this tyrannical regime?

This list was originally printed in “The Naked Communist” by Cleon Skousen. It was entered into Congressional Record in 1963 as the 45 goals of “The Communist Takeover of America.”

            1. U.S. acceptance of coexistence as the only alternative to atomic war.

            2. U.S. willingness to capitulate in preference to engaging in atomic war.

            3. Develop the illusion that total disarmament [by] the United States would be a demonstration of moral strength.

            4. Permit free trade between all nations regardless of Communist affiliation and regardless of whether or not items could be used for war.

            5. Extension of long-term loans to Russia and Soviet satellites.

            6. Provide American aid to all nations regardless of Communist domination.

            7. Grant recognition of Red China. Admission of Red China to the U.N.

            8. Set up East and West Germany as separate states in spite of Khrushchev’s promise in 1955 to settle the German question by free elections under supervision of the U.N.

            9. Prolong the conferences to ban atomic tests because the United States has agreed to suspend tests as long as negotiations are in progress.

            10. Allow all Soviet satellites individual representation in the U.N.

            11. Promote the U.N. as the only hope for mankind. If its charter is rewritten, demand that it be set up as a one-world government with its own independent armed forces. (Some Communist leaders believe the world can be taken over as easily by the U.N. as by Moscow. Sometimes these two centers compete with each other as they are now doing in the Congo.)

            12. Resist any attempt to outlaw the Communist Party.

            13. Do away with all loyalty oaths.

            14. Continue giving Russia access to the U.S. Patent Office.

            15. Capture one or both of the political parties in the United States.

            16. Use technical decisions of the courts to weaken basic American institutions by claiming their activities violate civil rights.

            17. Get control of the schools. Use them as transmission belts for socialism and current Communist propaganda. Soften the curriculum. Get control of teachers’ associations. Put the party line in textbooks.

            18. Gain control of all student newspapers.

            19. Use student riots to foment public protests against programs or organizations which are under Communist attack.

            20. Infiltrate the press. Get control of book-review assignments, editorial writing, policy making positions.

            21. Gain control of key positions in radio, TV, and motion pictures.

            22. Continue discrediting American culture by degrading all forms of artistic expression. An American Communist cell was told to “eliminate all good sculpture from parks and buildings, substitute shapeless, awkward and meaningless forms.”

            23. Control art critics and directors of art museums. “Our plan is to promote ugliness, repulsive, meaningless art.”

            24. Eliminate all laws governing obscenity by calling them “censorship” and a violation of free speech and free press.

            25. Break down cultural standards of morality by promoting pornography and obscenity in books, magazines, motion pictures, radio, and TV.

            26. Present homosexuality, degeneracy and promiscuity as “normal, natural, healthy.”

            27. Infiltrate the churches and replace revealed religion with “social” religion. Discredit the Bible and emphasize the need for intellectual maturity which does not need a “religious crutch.”

            28. Eliminate prayer or any phase of religious expression in the schools on the ground that it violates the principle of “separation of church and state.”

            29. Discredit the American Constitution by calling it inadequate, old-fashioned, out of step with modern needs, a hindrance to cooperation between nations on a worldwide basis.

            30. Discredit the American Founding Fathers. Present them as selfish aristocrats who had no concern for the “common man.”

            31. Belittle all forms of American culture and discourage the teaching of American history on the ground that it was only a minor part of the “big picture.” Give more emphasis to Russian history since the Communists took over.

            32. Support any socialist movement to give centralized control over any part of the culture–education, social agencies, welfare programs, mental health clinics, etc.

            33. Eliminate all laws or procedures which interfere with the operation of the Communist apparatus.

            34. Eliminate the House Committee on Un-American Activities.

            35. Discredit and eventually dismantle the FBI.

            36. Infiltrate and gain control of more unions.

            37. Infiltrate and gain control of big business.

            38. Transfer some of the powers of arrest from the police to social agencies. Treat all behavioral problems as psychiatric disorders which no one but psychiatrists can understand [or treat].

            39. Dominate the psychiatric profession and use mental health laws as a means of gaining coercive control over those who oppose Communist goals.

            40. Discredit the family as an institution. Encourage promiscuity and easy divorce.

            41. Emphasize the need to raise children away from the negative influence of parents. Attribute prejudices, mental blocks and retarding of children to suppressive influence of parents.

            42. Create the impression that violence and insurrection are legitimate aspects of the American tradition; that students and special-interest groups should rise up and use [“]united force[“] to solve economic, political or social problems.

            43. Overthrow all colonial governments before native populations are ready for self-government.

            44. Internationalize the Panama Canal.

            45. Repeal the Connally reservation so the United States cannot prevent the World Court from seizing jurisdiction [over domestic problems. Give the World Court jurisdiction] over nations and individuals alike.

10 Planks of “The Communist Manifesto:”

            1. Abolition of private property and the application of all rent to public purpose.

            2. A heavy progressive or graduated income tax.

            3. Abolition of all rights of inheritance.

            4. Confiscation of the property of all emigrants and rebels.

            5. Centralization of credit in the hands of the State, by means of a national bank with state capital and an exclusive monopoly.

            6. Centralization of the means of communication and transportation in the hands of the State.

            7. Extension of factories and instruments of production owned by the State, the bringing into cultivation of waste lands, and the improvement of the soil generally in accordance with a common plan.

            8. Equal liablity of all to labor. Establishment of Industrial armies, especially for agriculture.

            9. Combination of agriculture with manufacturing industries; gradual abolition of the distinction between town and country by a more equable distribution of the population over the country.

            10. Free education for all children in government schools. Abolition of children’s factory labor in its present form. Combination of education with industrial production, etc. etc.

          • WhutHeSaid

Well, you can hardly blame the entire Democratic Party for the fact that you were drummed out of the service for bad conduct. And stop lying about ever being a Democrat — you are too stupid to be convincing.

The communism scare ended way back in the last century. So sleep with the night light on if you must, and snuggle up to your Joe McCarthy doll, but for the love of God stop whining about communists. It’s 2014, you moron.

          • Out of rehab yet again? I don’t think it’s doing you any good. Try serving anything but your self once in your life. You never served anything, I served my country proudly for a number of years during wartime. You sit and collect welfare.

          • WhutHeSaid

I don’t really think that serving time in the stockade counts as proud service despite what you may believe. What counts is that you are out here spewing despicable lies and hating on people while slurping up public benefits like they are going out of style.

Listen — nobody cares what you crusty old KKK refugees think, and there hasn’t been any communists around for decades. Go back inside your trailer and hate on yourself — at least then it would be justified.

          • dtgraham

I didn’t know that kenndeb had also been wishing Jihad John all the best in his quest for the President’s neck. I think that kenndeb had better tone it down. There are certain federal authorities who scan the internet for this kind of talk. His/her IP address could start getting monitored.

          • Dominick Vila

That is exactly what I told him when I read his post. The post disappeared a day or so later. I suspect the NM editors deleted it for obvious reasons.

          • There was never any post such as you lied about, Dom. You fabricated and twisted, as usual. There were actually 2 threads almost dedicated to me because of your lies, and distortions. It was never deleted because it never existed. And what I said here was my hope the Emperor is tried, convicted, then face a firing squad, like you say about the innocent police officer in MO.

          • Dominick Vila

I was not the only one who read your post. I wish the NM had forwarded it to the FBI. The same goes for the firing squad comment yesterday. I suspect your comments are influenced by ignorance, intolerance, hatred, and a lack of imagination that precludes you from making credible criticisms, but that does not excuse what you said.

          • Again, and you know it to be true, that you took an off color remark, turned and twisted it, added a lot of embellishment, then touted it on at least two different threads how I had threatened the Emperor. I DID NOT. It is has not been deleted because it never existed, and you know it. I guess that being a liberal seems to give you the right to lie as often as you can, and as a godless communist you believe it is the right thing to do. I asked you to produce the comment right after you lied about it, but seeing there was none, you never responded.

      • Dominick Vila

President Obama also proposed a Veterans Jobs Bill that was promptly rejected by those who wrap themselves in the flag…and forget its meaning when it comes to helping those who would benefit from our help, and giving handouts to corporations and individuals that need our help like a hole in the head.

        • angelsinca

Sorry, the but the Veterans’ Jobs Bill was based on politics and not on a real solution to helping veterans get jobs, according to this report. As a vet, I followed this one rather closely. The grandstanding was obvious, the disappointments are real.

          • Dominick Vila

OK, let’s assume the proposed Veterans Jobs bill was imperfect. Where are the changes or solutions advanced that Boehner’s House? Saying that something was rejected because it was imperfect is fine, as long as an alternative is offered. Otherwise, it is pure obstructionism, in this case bordering on treason.

          • angelsinca

Your definition of treason is grounded in rhetoric. What do you call the insistence by Dems to cling onto flaws within the present ACA, without offering solutions?

          • Dominick Vila

Since I don’t know any Democrats who oppose making changes to the ACA designed to make it more efficient and cost-effective I really don’t know what to call it.
The first one to acknowledge that the ACA was not perfect, and that he welcomed constructive ideas to improve it was President Obama. The GOP response? The only way to fix it is to repeal it.
The obsession with the ACA, and the insistence on repealing it, has nothing to do with whether or not it has helped millions of Americans, and it is likely to help millions more, the real reason is to deny President Obama his legacy.
President Obama’s “sins” have nothing to do with bad policies, but with his successes and his persona.

        • angelsinca

Also, the KP project will benefit tens of thousands of workers during the first two years of the project. In other words JOBS NOW! would help a lot of people get out from under the debt of student loans and growing debt. The environmentalist concerns seem like over-cautiousness and don’t take into account 21st century techologies to ensure safe passage of the media across land. A veto by Obama will likely be met with a majority override.

          • Independent1

Unadulterated BS!!! The pipeline would at best hire 1,500 to 2,000 on a temporary basis. Not even all of those would work for 2 years.

And that would be all the benefit the pipeline would be to America. The dirty Tar Sands Oil would be shipped overseas; it would have zero impact on oil/gas prices in America.

          • angelsinca

Please, please, please find more than one source of information that isn’t jaded in green or tainted in liberal half truth. You did say you would never talk to me again. That was one day ago.

          • Independent1

No!! It’s you that needs to stop being so gullible and believing everything you’re right-wing idiot websites tell you and start accepting reality.

The State Department had an independent organization do an actual review of what’s needed to build the pipeline and not rely on the grossly inflated numbers from a lying oil corporation that is trying to CON America into building something the Canadians themselves wouldn’t even allow.

See this excerpt from a US News article :

That perception, however, may outstrip reality – at least according to the State Department.

An independent review by the agency, made public Jan. 31, found that while the project would create about 2,000 short-term construction jobs over two years (or 3,900 if construction took only a year), actually running the pipeline would provide just 50 long-term positions. It also would support another 40,000 “indirect” or “induced” jobs across the country during construction, ranging from canteen cars serving food along the pipeline route to factories manufacturing construction equipment for the project.

The disturbing part of the Democrat reaction to GOP interest in renewing the Keystone project is its willingness to dramatically underestimate the project’s benefits just because the GOP wants it. Who said anything about price impacts, though it will anyway. The real benefit of the pipeline lies in further independence from Middle East oil.

          • Independent1

What nonsense, no one is opposing the XL pipeline b ecause “the GOP wants it” – what garbage. it’s being opposed because it’s one pipeline disaster after another just waiting to happen. There has already been one major disaster from a section of the pipeline in Mayflower Mo. And all you have to do is checkout “Nigeria Oil Spills” to see article after article on the damage that Big Oil has done to Nigeria over the past 40 years where vast areas of the country have been destroyed by pipeline oil spills.

But there’s also the matter that America DOESN’T NEED THE OIL. America is already refining more oil than America Needs and is exporting it abroad. See this excerpt from a CNN article which shows that America has increased the oil it’s exporting from 1.8m barrels/day to 3.2 million/day between 2008 and 2012, and that the increase is going to continue whether or not KXL is ever built – America doesn’t need it – especially considering the danger it poses to American soil:

            From a CNN article:

But it’s also true that exports of refined products from the United States will likely continue to rise.

Thanks largely to better fuel economy and higher prices, the long-term demand for gasoline in the United States is either flat or declining. That means the nation’s refineries are producing more gasoline, diesel fuel and other oil products than the country needs, and exporting the rest. Gasoline is actually one of the nation’s largest exports, going mostly to Latin America.

In 2008 the country exported 1.8 million barrels a day of refined products, according to EIA. By 2012 that number jumped to 3.2 million barrels.

“That trend will continue whether Keystone is built or not,” said Brian Milne, a refined fuels editor at Schneider Electric, an information provider

Once refined, it’ll be impossible to tell exactly where the oil that came down the pipeline went, but “with more oil, that [export] number will increase,” said Milne.

          • angelsinca

Why so selfish? If America doesn’t need it, then others do. THEY can be further insulated from price and availability fluctuations due to middle eastern uncertainties and developing regional warring concerns. Iraq is occupied with a slash & burn campaign by the well armed anti-Assad ‘rebels’, Iran’s enrichment program is still alive and well, and Israel remains at the top of a worrisome target list.

          • jmprint

It’s the deregulating that is mostly being opposed. With no restrictions, with no oversight our country is doomed at the Koch brothers gain.

          • Dominick Vila

I spent 12 years in an oil producing area in Venezuela from 1946 to 1958. Construction of a long pipeline requires between 2,000 and 4,000 workers during its construction, and a couple of hundred maintenance personnel to repair leaks and other problems after construction is complete.
Trying to justify the construction of a Canadian pipeline to carry highly corrosive sand tar oil to the Gulf of Mexico for export to China, at a time when job growth in the USA averages 200,000 new jobs a month is, as a minimum, disingenuous.

          • angelsinca

Did you work in the industry or just live in the region. Were ports designed and built, were rails laid, were regulators involved, who supplied the iron? It was a different world and different project then.

The potential impact of Keystone project spin off jobs could be 250k-553k according to an analysis by Forbes*. The number of direct jobs estimated by Trans Canada were as high as 20,000 in April 2011. By April 2013, that estimate was revise to about 8,000. The US government has estimated as many as 6,000 new jobs from the project, and as few as only 35 jobs as projected by the State Dept (of all sources).

What is disingenuous, to say the least, is the promise of 600,000 to 3.5 million jobs that were supposed to occur in the energy sector, we were told, in order to sell the obscene amounts of tax dollars thrown into the energy ring by Obama.

To avoid further disingenous comment, those 200k new jobs you cite is a monthly average. Aug 2014 had a disappointing 146k new jobs. But to the recovery’s credit, net jobs gained remain above net zero since Fall 2010. The labor force continues to shrink at a alarming rate, but that is a different discussion.

          • Dominick Vila

My first job was working for my Dad, the regional manager of a company that represented several American shipping companies, wholesalers of American products, and Customs brokers of Standard Oil Co. in the Eastern part of Venezuela. Our headquarters, and the city where we lived during the last 7 or 8 years in Venezuela is an oil port called Puerto La Cruz.
Of course Forbes would make the construction of the Keystone pipeline a job creation panacea. It isn’t. It would not make a ripple on the number of jobs that are already being created. BTW, there were many more jobs created to develop the Bakken oil fields in the USA, which helped us become the largest oil producer in the world, and reduced our dependence on foreign oil, than anything the Koch’s brothers can offer. The biggest problem, however, has nothing to do with job creation, regardless of whose estimates are correct, but with the danger of transporting highly corrosive Canadian petroleum through our heartland for export to foreign countries. Why do we have to risk endangering our environment to make sure a couple of entrepreneurs can accumulate more wealth than they already have? Since when is our country for sale to the highest bidder?

It’s not always on display. But those instances, like the Keystone, where it is. What corporate wants, corporate eventually gets. Example: Even given the benefit of the doubt, that politicians aren’t very versed in high finance. And may not have foreseen the unimaginable amount of basically unsecured credit that could be amassed on the rather stupid idea, that the value of real estate, any real estate, anywhere, was always going to increase in value. Some did, but were ignored. Why? Because corporate lobbied for, and corporate received, deregulation that facilitated the crisis that grew to such proportion, that it nearly destroyed the World Economy. So corporate wants the XL. It’s not a good deal. On the whole, it’s a terrible deal for the Country. Exxon, and Canada share the profits. China gets the fuel. And America the Country, shoulders all the long term risks. And those risks could be very high indeed. And, if the wrong thing happens, as sooner, or later, it always does. And, it happens in the wrong place, which it could. The damage could be catastrophic, irreversible, and of enormous consequence to our supplies of water used in not only food production, but depended on throughout our Western. and Mid-Western States. Something of dire concern already in, OK. TX. AZ. NM. And CA. But, our fundraising Congress, and it’s corporate owners push on unabated. And evidently, unconcerned about little else, but the next quarter’s profits. That they be higher than the last. My prediction is. If we can’t find someway to work ourselves out this predicament. And rebalance the dynamic between the influence of money always outweighing the influence of all other considerations, to do that which is in the best interests of the Country. They may as well build it. For if not the XL. that pollutes the American breadbasket. The next financial scam, or the vast inequity of wealth, that grows wider by the day. Or, something unforeseen, that is only now being considered in some distant boardroom somewhere, is going to be purposed to the Congress. With the usual obligatory pile of cash. And it’s going to lay the Country very low. And after that, I can’t say just what is to become of us.

          • Dominick Vila

If President Obama does not veto any bill pushing for the construction of the Keystone XL pipeline, he will be the one held responsible for any future damage to our environment. Nobody will remember who proposed the construction of that pipeline, the only thing people will remember 25 or 50 years ago is who was the occupant of the White House and who authorized the construction of the corporate dinosaur.

The root cause is the absurd tax rates and the, barely legal, money hiding and tax avoiding options designed to make sure greedy 1%er’s keep as much of they’re money as possible….and in addition to this devastating practice, huge corporations and phony “farmers” are the regular recipients of absurd amounts of “subsidies” (welfare) each year..and at the same time, these same corporations are constantly sending jobs that could be had by Americans over seas in an effort to enrich themselves to an even greater degree…
It is basic economics: You can NOT take more from an economy than you put into it, and simultaneously eliminate job opportunities for citizens of your country who keep you in business..and any republican with a reasonable level of intelligence knows this. But they can’t very well represent the interests of these job outsourcing, tax dodging 1% er’s AND serve the interest of the average Joe shmo they were elected to serve…So they have to create the narrative of the lazy, shiftless minority not taking responsibility to change they’re own “plight”, that Obamacare is the culprit, that unemployment benefits are the issue, that mental health services are the culprit, etc, etc. Any thing to divert the attention of the low information American away from the true causes, and into believing it’s everything that it’s not.

      • Dominick Vila

One of my greatest disappointments was President Obama’s decision to cave in on raising the tax rate of individuals earning over $250K. Hopefully he will not do the same with the Keystone pipeline.

        • One Cool Chick

I too was disappointed. But as I recall, that was the only way he could republicans to go along with any rate hike.

Until the GOP wakes up and accepts what is really needed to resolve this country’s need for governance, their hatred for our President will continue to blind them and stall Congress’ productivity.

  • Eleanore Whitaker

Obviously, the GOP men are still in their control freak mode. Do these lunatics think we don’t know “why” they are after impeachment? Read your Constitution. The GOP doesn’t have enough votes to vote down the President’s vetos. And WOWeeeeeeeee! Don’t they just hate hate hate that? (Gee…what else is new…they hate everything this president does).

So..when you can’t take over government one way, you use a fine old corporate control strategy…”We will get rid of Obama!” (Mitch McConnell in the 3rd month of a brand new presidency?) and that strategy is right out of the KOCH control freaks playbook: Hostile Takeover of the Executive Branch.

These idiot GOP men know they don’t have autonomous power…so if they “impeach” they weaken to the core anything the Constitution allows this president to do..namely VETO..the new 4-letter word that has McConnell running for the Kaopectate. The other four letter word you never hear out of their mouths? B-U-S-H.

So, yes Animal House Republican frat boys…do go ahead and try to impeach this president. And when you have a massive revolt on your hands trying to override OUR Constitutional right to elect the president WE want, that ought to peel back the real skin of GOP men…powermongering on steroids.

February 17, 2008, reprint – Psychiatrist Confirms: Liberalism Is a Mental Disorder.

As a clinical and forensic psychiatrist, Lyle Rossiter has treated over 1,500 patients and examined over 2,700 civil and criminal cases. Turning his hand to political psychopathology, the author of The Liberal Mind: The Psychological Causes of Political Madness, has diagnosed an alarming percentage of the population as suffering from the grotesque form of mental derangement known by some as moonbattery

The Liberal Mind is the first in-depth examination of the major political madness of our time: The radical left’s efforts to regulate the people from cradle to grave. To rescue us from our troubled lives, the liberal agenda recommends denial of personal responsibility, encourages self-pity and other-pity, fosters government dependency, promotes sexual indulgence, rationalizes violence, excuses financial obligation, justifies theft, ignores rudeness, prescribes complaining and blaming, denigrates marriage and the family, legalizes all abortion, defies religious and social tradition, declares inequality unjust, and rebels against the duties of citizenship. Through multiple entitlements to unearned goods, services and social status, the liberal politician promises to ensure everyone’s material welfare, provide for everyone’s healthcare, protect everyone’s self-esteem, correct everyone’s social and political disadvantage, educate every citizen, and eliminate all class distinctions. Radical liberalism thus assaults the foundations of civilized freedom. Given its irrational goals, coercive methods and historical failures, and given its perverse effects on character development, there can be no question of the radical agenda’s madness. Only an irrational agenda would advocate a systematic destruction of the foundations on which ordered liberty depends. Only an irrational man would want the state to run his life for him rather than create secure conditions in which he can run his own life. Only an irrational agenda would deliberately undermine the citizen’s growth to competence by having the state adopt him. Only irrational thinking would trade individual liberty for government coercion, sacrificing the pride of self-reliance for welfare dependency. Only a madman would look at a community of free people cooperating by choice and see a society of victims exploited by villains. [From The Liberal Mind; The Psychological Causes of Political Madness by Lyle H. Rossiter, Jr., MD]

Facts are that insurace companies colluded to directly enslave the consumer with little to no return on coverage. Fact is that before republican lies were used, 80% of all America wanted and approved of healthcare reform. Time to wake up! Republicans are no more than a poison that needs eradicating. Post 2014 election Democratic “SPIN” propraganda for the low informed voters, et al, to wit:
“Our party has a problem,” said Wasserman Schultz. “We know we’re right on the issues. The American people believe in the causes we’re fighting for.” (DELUSIONAL)
“But the electoral success we have when our presidential nominee is able to make a case to the country as a whole doesn’t translate to other elections. That’s why we lost in 2010. And it’s why we lost on Tuesday. (Not living in reality i.e. Dems are deranged in thoughts)

We absolutely believe in those causes. We just dont believe in your solutions.

I mean, seriously? After the shellacking you took at the polls you have the audacity to declare “We know we’re right on the issues?” If losing 17 seats in Congress isnt an indication that the American people rejected your platform, I dont know what is. (reprint)

          • Allan Richardson

Did you notice that EVERY referendum question, as opposed to elections to fill offices, went PROGRESSIVE by landslides, even in the SAME states where the SAME voters were voting for GOP candidates on the SAME ballot? In other words, they voted for the PEOPLE in one direction, but for the ISSUES those people opposed.

If you ask whether Mr. A who opposes issue X, or Ms. B who favors issue X, should be elected, you get a vote for Mr. A. But if you ask whether YOU as a voter support issue X, the vote goes the other way. It’s so much easier to get distracted from issue X when the PEOPLE are the main focus, but if you are asked about the ISSUE itself, that is ALL you are voting on.

And so, in state after state, voters who gave their votes to people who OPPOSE raising (or even having at all) the minimum wage, and OPPOSE marriage equality, ALSO voted FOR raising the minimum wage and voted down additional bans on marriage equality. That is the FACT behind what you call Rep. Schultz’s “delusional spin.”

Given that the 2014 election had the smallest turnout in several DECADES!! The election was a MANDATE ON NOTHING!!!

It was simply a reality of too high a percentage of Republicans turning out to NON REPUBLICANS!!!

Obama vs. Carter as Worst President
Most Liberals along with many Conservatives were likely surprised by reputable opinion survey rankings where Barack Obama beat out Jimmy Carter as the worst president since World War II. Of the 12 presidencies since 1945, one-third of the respondents ranked Obama’s in last place, while 28 percent picked his predecessor. Even Richard Nixon who resigned under the cloud of Watergate scandal did better than both of them with 13 percent of those polled rating him lowest.

For those of you stayed home, and didn’t bother to vote last week, y9u will soon be reaping the results of your lethargy, as the GOP begins the next 2 years of shut down politics, more tax cuts for job creators, Ted Cruse insanity, and more Rand Paul Voodo Economics, hidden in his recreated politial persona. And for those in the Red States who continuously vote GOP, despite your states having the lowest per capita income, education level, and standard of living, and continue to vote Right Wing, GOP, nothing will change for you or this Naiton until you wake up.

    • BiteMeLiberals

Don’t worry soon this country will be making criminals into Democrats and you can have a third-world country to match your third-world President.

      • Independent1

Sorry BiteYourself, but all the 3rd world parts of America are called “Red States”.

The states in America where people live 3-6 year shorter lives than people who live in BLUE STATES; and where violence and murder abound!! Not only that, but babies have a tough time being born because 12 of the 15 states with the highest mortality rates, infant mortality rates higher than even some 3rd world countries – are you guessed it – RED STATES!!

Not only do people live shorter lives in RED STATES, when survey company 24/7 assessed living factors by state across the nation, guess what: the states that 24/7 determined to have the Worst Quality of Life were; YOU GUESSED IT – ALL RED STATES!!

And not only the Worst Quality of Life, but another survey company assessed all the states and came up with the “10 Most Misserable States in which to LIfe” ; and you Guessed It!! All of them were RED STATES too.

And the largest, most populated of all the Red States is TEXAS, and Texas wins the award of being THE CESSPOOL OF AMERICA!!

YUP!! Texas not only has the most polluted environment in the nation, it also ranks in the bottom 10 (worst in the nation) of 23 subjective socio/economic measures comparing states: Like quality of its infrastructure, the Police and Fire Protection Texans get, the Corruption in its Government, the fact that it has the 6th highest percent of people living in poverty, the fact that it leads the nation in teen age births, and leads the nation in the percent AND number of people who can’t afford insurance. and on and on and on.

If you’re looking for a 3rd world state, just run to Texas; that ever GLORIOUS RED STATE!!!!!!.

MITT ROMNEY was more right than wrong about Herr Obama’s idiotic policies that were divisive to the USA and destructive to our Military, Economic, Health, and Foreign Policies.

If a President takes the OATH to PROTECT AND SERVE the Constitution and citizens and does not, there should be a faster way to remove them from AS President a of the United States.

Since the founding of psychotherapy as a medical practice, homosexuality was diagnosed and treated as a disorder (dubbed “Same Sex Attraction Disorder” or SSAD) no different than Schizophrenia and other mental diseases[1]. Under pressure from homosexual activists, in 1973 the American Psychiatric Association (APA) removed homosexuality as a mental disorder from the APA’s Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-II).

          • Melinda Killie

Yes, Joe T. I DID vote in the midterm elections. Did you? Or did you just sit back and let your republican, “bully boys,” do all of the bull crap jabbering for you?

          • Joe T

            Sorry….who’s the “bully boy”

          • Melinda Killie

I noticed that you DIDN’T answer the question, joe. The “bully boys” are your repubublican/tea party cohorts. Want to answer the question now, joe, or is the idea of the republican party’s antics and being squashed by the fact that your party is useless now because you can’t stop Obama’s possible veto on your traitorous plans? Are you peeing your panties because winning the midterms really WASN’T a win/win situation as you republican/tea party traitors thought it would be? LOLOLOL!

          • Melinda Killie

And ANOTHER item, joe, while we are conversing here on this thread. You DO know that the republican/tea party is being watched like a “bug in a bell jar” for the FIRST incidence of screwing up, as is completely expected of the so called gop/tea party? You won the midterms, Joe. What you do now WILL set precedence on the country’s view of the republican part for ALL time. Ditch the tea party “tea baggers,” Joe. The odds won’t be stacked quite as high against you if you end up “screwing the pooch,” as I and MANY others expect you to. You can’t help it. It’s in the republican genes and you CAN’T fix stupid…

          • Joe T

          • Melinda Killie

LOLOLOL! Childish answer, joe. And you STILL didn’t answer the question. What’s the matter? Too busy filling your republican diaper knowing that your traitor party is being watched for the screw ups we ALL know will come? That Obama will veto your bologna antics and your traitorisms? will predict that before THIS year is out, the republican/tea party/traitor party will AGAIN show the prominent of it’s two faces. bullcrap traitorism.

Newsbulletin…..Obama vs. Carter as Worst President! Read Latest Breaking News from

            Barack Obama’s Political Ideology
If this does not send chills down your spine, let’s look at Obama’s background.

We’ll examine his deep cultural and political upbringing and his personal radical ideology – missed by over half of the voters in America, and concealed by news networks.
I will examine his direct connections to Islam later.
Three of Barack Obama’s primary mentors in Chicago (known for its political corruption) were avowed Marxists. All three of these mentors were trained at the Industrial Areas Foundation, founded by avowed Marxist, Saul Alinsky. Alinsky’s goal was to destroy capitalism and establish Socialist/Marxist principles, not through violent revolution, but through slow, aggressive cultural takeover. His design was to accomplish this through “Community Organizing,” a silent revolution designed to overtake power in the US democracy, much like radical Islamic cultural jihad. Community organizing was designed to implement widespread public discontent, moral and cultural confusion and spark social uprising. The goal was penetration of political parties, churches and private and government institutions and place strategic Marxist/Socialist operatives in these organizations, including the news media. Sound familiar? Barack Obama became a proponent of the Alinsky techniques…..continue

Only if you restrict yourself to the right wing echo chamber. If you look at REAL news you will find stories about how we have been creating more than 200,000 jobs a month for quite some time now. The the unemployment rate has dropped below that vaunted 5.4% you people credit George Bush with. That economists rate the US economy the strongest major economy in the world, That Iran agreed to inspections in their nuclear program, the Libya destroyed the chemical weapons and that nothing — absolutely nothing — the the right wing fear mongers, propagandists and echo chamber have come true. THOSE, MY SORRY RIGHT WING FRIEND ARE FACTS!

Most citizens are aware of the Amendment and its limitations; for example actions for slander and libel or for speech that successfully leads to imminent violence that the speaker knew or should have known would result Rational citizens can judge whether utterly nonsensical rants —noisy, mindless outbursts with no real evidence–deserve any
thing more than toleration, but at the same time seeing it as clearly insulting to their intelligence and as simply still another speaker making a fool of himself.

I have read most of these posts from Joe T, there is really, really something very very wrong with this creep. His name calling alone is beyond contemptible and plainly full of hate, rage and mental illness. He probably has a white pointy hat and lovely white robes hanging in his closet along with a big ol’ Nazi arm band, (ergo, his continual use of German in his cowardly attacks) as a charming accessory to wear when he gets all dressed up and ready to party! Joe T wants to insure he is sending the clear message of just who he is!!!!! . Although I enjoyed your response Eleanore, and got a good laugh, with this kind of sociopath, I find it is better not to engage, although, admittedly, quite difficult at times with these kind of head cases!. Sometimes I wonder if nuts like this are for real or are they pushing peoples’ buttons because they love reading the responses for their own sick enjoyment. I mean really how can anyone like Joe T. be this stupendously stupid………….

The republican party’s whole agenda since January 20, 2009 is to oppose, obstruct, and deny any and everything President Obama or his administration attempts. The crew of 14 met secretly in D.C. on the President’s inauguration day (Jan 20, 2009) and swore out a pact to oppose, obstruct, and deny the President, than, McConnell made his speech about the most important thing to the republican party was to make President Obama a one term President…it wasn’t the economy, immigration, the war(s), unemployment, etc…it was, for the republicans, to make the President a one term President. It’s been racial among that Klan group who met since the beginning.

Now, come January, they’ll (republican congress) go into their pathetic role of impeachment and repeal, they’ll put those two as the most important thing to them. Such stupid little men……

    • angelsinca

” to make the President a one term President. ” That didn’t work out too well. Any more conspiracy theory explanations for Obama’s inability to work with Congress? If it weren’t for the Republicans ‘blocking’ Obama’s wild-eyed pork-riddled budgets, we’d be running a $1T annual deficit. We’ll just have to settle with the $18T debt. Soon to be $20T

      • Independent1

“Any more conspiracy theory explanations for Obama’s inability to work with Congress?”

        Conspiracy theory?? I think not.

It’s the result of a TREASONOUS PLOT by the GOP:

UPDATE: Eric Cantor Plotted to Sabotage US Economy in Secret Meeting with Hensarling & Luntz

        Here’s the plot:

FACT 1. In Robert Draper’s book, “Do Not Ask What Good We Do: Inside the U.S. House of Representatives” Draper wrote that on inauguration night, 2009, during a four hour, “invitation only” meeting with GOP Hate-Propaganda Minister, Frank Luntz, the below listed Senior GOP Law Writers literally plotted to sabotage, undermine and destroy America’s Economy.

FACT 2: Draper wrote the guest list included:

        The Guest List:

Frank Luntz – GOP Minister of Propaganda
        Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI)
        Rep. Eric Cantor (R-VA)
        Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA),
        Rep. Pete Sessions (R-TX),
        Rep. Jeb Hensarling (R-TX),
        Rep. Pete Hoekstra (R-MI)
        Rep. Dan Lungren (R-CA),
        Sen. Jim DeMint (SC-R),
        Sen. Jon Kyl (AZ-R),
        Sen. Tom Coburn (OK-R),
        Sen. John Ensign (NV-R) and
        Sen. Bob Corker (TN-R).

Non-lawmakers present Newt Gingrich – Failed GOP candidate for President

Here’s PROOF that the meeting took place:

FACT 3: Newt Gingrich confirms meeting took place in an interview with Al Sharpton’s Politics Nation on June 12, 2012

SHARPTON: In fact, let`s go to a book that Mr. Draper wrote about the night of the inauguration. There was a meeting at a hotel near the inaugural ball, about a mile away … He writes about that night the plan was to show united and unyielding opposition to the president`s economic policies … And Draper writes that you told the group — you, Newt Gingrich, “You will remember this day…you will remember this day the seeds of 2012 were sown.”

If there was a commitment from day one, before he ever took a seat behind the desk of the Oval Office, that everyone was going to obstruct him, then what he`s done has been almost unbelievable, against those kind of odds, Speaker Gingrich.

NEWT: The first is, it was an important meeting and I was glad and honored to be part of it … I said to Callista when we left the hall — because we were at the Capitol for the inaugural. As we left, I said, you know, if he sticks to the kind of moderation and bipartisanship he`s been describing, he will split the Republican Party. He`ll govern like Eisenhower and he`ll get reelected. Now this is — this is the inaugural day.

SHARPTON: I`m glad you admit you had it.

        • The only treasonous acts being performed are by the Emperor and his supporters. You show your insanity with each and every rant your post here.

          • Independent1

Ah so!! Anglesinca is one of you Heritage Foundation PAID trolls!! How interesting!!

And the above is hardly A RANT!! It’s facts of a group of Americans actually plotting to damage the economy of the U.S. which ARE TREASONOUS ACTIONS!!!!!!!!

          • It would seem it is the Liberals and the Emperor that are the ones destroying Americas economy and way of life. You won’t be happy until America is just like North Korea.
The only people that most likely getting paid to post are those rabid jackals that post regularly, such as yourself.

          • Independent1

More blatant lies!! As Al Sharpton told Gingrich, considering the unprecedented OBSTRUCTION that the GOP has confronted Obama with the past 5 plus years, what he has accomplished is almost unbelievable:

            1) The longest stretch of continuous positive jobs growth in America’s history – more than 55 months and counting.

            2) The tripling of the stock market in 5 plus years with it reaching levels NEVER SEEN BEFORE!!

            3) Managing America’s energy sector such that TODAY, America is the largest distributor of energy on the planet FOR THE FIRST TIME IN HISTORY!!

            4) Rounding up and deporting more troublesome illegal aliens that have been costing America billions THAN ALL THE PREVIOUS PRESIDENTS COMBINED!!

            5) Revitalizing America’s largest manufacturing sector, the Auto Industry, such that it’s recording profits that haven’t been seen since Clinton was in office.

            6) Reducing deficit spending FURTHER and FASTER than an previous president IN HISTORY (reducing deficit spending more than 1T/yr in 5 budgets)!!

There are more but those are enough to prove your comments are the rant of an insane person.

          • LOL… Quoting Al Sharpton really shows just how ignorant and stupid you really are. Al Sharpton? He tops the list of real racists along with Jessie Jackson, Sal Alinski, and the Emperors family.

          • Independent1

Just goes to show your stupidity!! I didn’t quote him per se: I used his comment in justifying my own statement. I said: AS Al Sharpton told Gingrich: I’m in total agreement with Sharpton’s comments as are virtually all the posters on the NM:

It’s short of Amazing and almost Unbelievable all that Obama has accomplished in the face of unprecedented opposition from the GOP. The GOP has been a total FAILURE over the past 6 years – just as it always has been. It hasn’t accomplished anything it has tried EVER. And just because millions of Americans are too ignorant of reality to realize that – DOESN’T CHANGE THAT FACT!!!!!

          • Using a racist for any example is just so funny, seeing you have continuously called me a racist because I do not agree with the Emperor, your god.

          • jmprint

            Missed the facts again huh!

          • jmprint

And you what’s your problem here everyday, repeating your parrot trolling feckless lies.

        • angelsinca

Nothing to hide there. This is common knowledge. A typical Obama campaign speech (aka anti-GOP rally) carries more damning rhetoric to damage the unity of the country.

  • AlfredSonny

Psychology 101: When Harry talks about Tom, actually its Harry talking about Harry. Therefore, does it mean that since GOP is insane, does it mean that their voters are insane, too? If that is the case, does it mean that the Red states are insane, too?

    • Liberals are the insane ones. Liberalism IS a mental disorder, but I doubt obamacare will cover it. You will have to wait until the ACA is repealed, and real healthcare put back in place. The ACA is a sham, just like your fearless messiah.

      • AlfredSonny

Anyone other than top 1% supports pre-existing conditions, discourages children between 21-26 years of age from having insurance coverage, prevents people from having coverage and encourages taxpayers to pay coverages for the uninsured is obviously insane!

The difference between rich liberal Democrats and rich “conservative Republicans is greed. Rich Democrats share to improve America. Rich Republicans collects monies for themselves. If you are among 99%, you should wake up, remove your blinders and watch out for your own life.

          • joe schmo

Seriously!….and that is the biggest crop of crap I have ever heard. What a hypocrite.

Koch’s just gave 25 million to the Negro College Fund plus they have contributed to medical research and the arts in the US. Reason I mention them is because your side is constantly bashing.

Middle class church going Christian Conservatives give more money to charity than any other group.

I could go on an on and on……

Look, dude……you just don’t get it. Did you even read the article? I think you need to keep those blinders on because you will never steer clear of that tunnel vision you cling to with an iron Communist fist.

As far as spreading the wealth…..If we had Corps or Millionaires pay more money in taxes, it still would not change the debt in this country because the Democrats always want more and more and more……. Why do you think there is a growing division between rich and poor. Thanks for nothing.

          • AlfredSonny

If these rich people, including Romneys and Kochs, are genuine Americans, why are they bribing their political puppets to develop laws to allow them outsource their $Trillions ($40-70T, I believe) to avoid taxes?

During Clinton’s administration, we had surplus. These rich people complained because they didnt want to have the responsibility to pay off taxes and demanded ‘temporary ” tax cuts for 10 years. Ten years passed. Obama wanted to restore to the same levels as in Clinton years. Instead, these rich people are spending monies brainwashing Americans to have faith in them instead of the current president.

I would recommend you to read John Grisham’s “Appeal” and be aware of the perception management tactics.

          • joe schmo

And you don’t think that Soros, Steyer and the Hollywood elite do the same? Give me a break. No matter how much you want to pin the conservatives the liberals are just as much as fault.

Ah Jesus! You really believe the crap in your second paragraph? Look Americans on the right and left are not all that happy with Corporations being able to outsource or keep money in off shore bank accounts but why hasn’t Obama changed it. You know he has that pen and that phone.

      • browninghipower

        And that ‘real healthcare’ is?…….

      • Bob Eddy

Yes. Crazy us. We think people in a civilized country should have access to health care. We think that someone, anyone, who has a job and works his butt off should have a living wage. We think that greed is not a virtue. We think that the government is here to serve the people…not that the people are here to serve the government. We believe in fair play, honesty and hard work….You’re right, maybe we are insane!

        • Boy, have got your wires crossed. The liberals are all for more government, and not government that serves the people, but government that is served by the people. Democrats have become the new communist party, and the Emperor is using that to gain more power. Liberal fools are helping a tyrant by supporting him blindly. Many have even compared him to Christ. Some have even described him as “god like”. He is a fraud that is taking advantage of peoples fears and greedy nature. Liberals and the Emperor have elevated lying and deceit to a new level, and you seem to support that. So, what does that say about you?

          • Independent1

Liberals are all for more government??? Why are you keeping up these lies???????

The federal government today is 330,000 workers smaller than when Reagan left office in 1989 AFTER ADDING 266,000 WORKERS TO OUR GOVERNMENT.

And after George W. Bush added 55,000 workers to our government!!!

Not only that, but if you count all governments in America combined, there are 700,000 less people involved in ‘GOVERNMENT’ in America today, than when George Bush left office in 2009!! After Georgie Boy managed to add over 960,000 people to not only the federal government but , state, local, county – YOU NAME IT.

          • Go seek help. The only ones lying are the liberals and their tyrannical leader.

          • jmprint

The liberals are for the government being for the people, by the people as it was intended.

    • Eleanore Whitaker

I don’t think the red states are insane…They just don’t have a clue how people in the most progressive populated states live. Their culture is so laid back. They assume everyone else lives in such a laid back culture and has the same “take it or leave it” politicians as they do.

I’m not fond of Harry Reid. Mostly because like all of the good ole, good ole boys network, he’s already too old and out of touch with the younger generations’ needs.

In essence, the GOP had back during the Gingrichian era, the opportunity to insure that healthcare was affordable. They tabled it. For the next 2 administrations, healthcare costs spiraled out of control making it the most unaffordable in the world. This is exactly what the GOP did with immigration reform.

Here is a statement from a Texas legislator regarding that “exception” TX legislators left in their immigration bill:

Texas state Rep. Aaron Pena, a Republican, said the “exception is a wise one. With things as they are today, her (The Riddle bill) bill will see a large segment of the Texas population in prison” if it passes without the exception,” he said.

“When it comes to household employees or yard workers, it is
extremely common for Texans to hire people who are likely undocumented workers,” Pena said. “It is so common it is overlooked.”

“The bills and other illegal immigration-related bills filed by
Riddle and others reflect an increased pressure from constituents for action on the issue,” Pena said. “Because the federal government isn’t doing its job, residents press state officials to act, he said.

Leo Berman, a Republican state representative, agreed that there
was a stronger voice from Texas voters on the issue. “Absolutely,” he said.

So, while $90 Billion has been spent on TX, AZ, NM and CA for border protection, that “exception” left in the Riddle bill allows TX to hire “illegals” they don’t register with the US government. What is that $90 billion used for then?

      • One Cool Chick

Red states are in a bubble where they constantly chew on the red meat of the scary, lazy minorities wanted to take their hard earned money to buy steak and lobster, and coming to rape their wives daughters. They trust republicans to protect them from this. It’s really not more complicated than that.

        • angelsinca

You mean just like the argument that without Obamacare, costs will rise and people will die? Or that the oceans will rise and people will die? Or that guns will go off and people will die? Got it

        • joe schmo

Well, I guess you must then mean most of the U.S. with the exception of some of the coastline, a tad up in the northern states and a snip down by the gulf. Everything else is Red.

Do you really think Liberals with their lax laws are protecting the populus? There is more crime now under all of this Liberal laxlusterness than there ever was in the 50’s and 60’s.

          • One Cool Chick

That’s debatable. There are vast differences between the way crimes were recorded, and reported in the 50’s and 60’s.

          • joe schmo

No, there were simply less crimes committed.

          • One Cool Chick

If you say so. I guess you’re the keeper of crime statistics.

          • joe schmo

Huh, Problem with most Liberals is that they love to jump the gun and spring onto the gravy train. They never look anything up statistically or otherwise.

Why pray-tell would I want to live in the insane populated areas of the Country like NY. Why they don’t even know that milk comes from a cow.

        • Don’t lump all of us in NY into that group. I grew up in NYS, with a rifle in hand, roaming freely in the woods most of my childhood. I’ve worked dairy farms as a kid, and on and off at other times. I know how to live comfortably in a sylvan setting, with not much more than a knife. I do agree that most of the liberal population that herd together in large urban areas would never survive without the help of government agencies. That herding instinct is why the term “sheeple” fits them so well.

          • jmprint

Great example as to why YOU shouldn’t dump all immigrants, and wage earners in the same group. Didn’t like it did you?

          • joe schmo

Totally can relate. Grew up in rural California where the same is true. Worked in Agriculture all our lives until we were pushed out of our jobs by Hispanics. City people can have their NSA, cameras and drones flying over the streets while people in the country know how to still live off the fat of the land. We’re a tough lot not afraid to take anything on. Fiercely independent and we are creative enough to be innovative and we can think for ourselves. We are not the weak of this land. We are what America stands for.

Advanced Psych: Since Harry and Nancy are dipsticks with little to no conscience or brain does that mean that the entire group of Democrats are stupid? As a result of their ineptness, the entire country has proceeded to disintegrate and suffer the consequences of an immature Dictator who has led everyone down the wrong path. I guess if the GOP were that insane they would have also voted for Obama.

As for the Blue states they seem to be headed in the same direction as Detroit. How do I know this? I live in one of the biggest ones.

      • AlfredSonny

You just proved my point. I rest my case.

        • joe schmo

No, I just proved that the Liberals are narrow-minded followers without the creativity to think for themselves.

          • All anyone has to do to see how insane the liberals are is to read comments and rants on this site. I have seen so many go off the deep end just because they do not agree. Eleanore is a great example of someone that is in great need of professional help, but I bet her obamacare won’t cover her pre existing conditions. So sad that so many have drank the kool ade for too long, and are now suffering perhaps irreparable psychiatric conditions.

          • joe schmo

Kenndeb; I think you might enjoy reading this….I try to go out of the scope of America sometimes to here a different perspective. Most of my family still lives in Europe so I know exactly what is going on over there. Unfortunately, they are following America’s lead right down into the sewer. This snippet is from Pravda regarding America. Of course, Putin has no respect for Obama….Gee I wonder why…..and the Liberals call us paranoid. We are in the mess we are in largely because of them and their progressive ideology:

            From Pravda:

“Many critics of American-style democracy have
argued that voting as a means of social change is nothing more than an illusion. Some have even argued that the only way to create a nation
where human rights are more important than corporate rights; where being”pro-life” does not just focus on birth and death, but also on
enhancing the quality of life during the years in between; where “natural” and “human” are viewed as more than just resources; and where
the Bill of Rights applies to everyone.

Unfortunately, it is too late. Tactics that have been rubber-stamped by America’s so-called “justice”
system-the indefinite detention, torture, and extrajudicial execution of American citizens; GPS, cameras, drones, and satellites tracking everyone’s movements; facial recognition technologies; and the unrestrained spying by the NSA, CIA, and FBI-will cause any revolutionary overtures to be decimated in their infancy.

So here America stands, a rudderless ship occupied by idiots elected or appointed by idiots. And when it sinks, Americans will only have
            themselves to blame.”

….and why have we gotten into the mess we are in today…..could it be our illustrious leader who has no respect from anyone in the world. Not even his own country. I you could call it his Country.

  • paulyz

I would think that if Americans of “any” political Party would be angry when a President acted beyond his authority & powers that are stated in our Constitution. I would be demanding ANY President, of ANY Party, to be reigned-in for disrupting the balance-of-powers of our Country, the “basis” of our Liberty. And if ANY President insisted on continuing this, especially after the American People clearly showed their disgust, then an impeachment would be necessary to ensure future President don’t endanger our Freedoms.

    • Eleanore Whitaker

The president is part of the Executive Branch. He has the power to veto…Read your Constitution. You didn’t “rein in” Bush when he and Cheney decided to march into a sovereign nation like Iraq did you?

      • Joe T

In December 2009, the U.S. Senate voted 60 to 39 for
Obamacare. The Washington Post reported “The Senate bill passed without a single GOP vote.” The Washington Post said of the Obamacare fight at the time “It has inflamed the partisanship that Obama pledged to tame when he campaigned for the White House and has limited Congress’s ability to pass any other major legislation.

        • Bob Eddy

It passed and you cry babies have been whining ever since. It isn’t his fault. It isn’t our fault that you don’t seem to have the maturity to accept defeat…oh, and it had absolutely nothing to do with the ensuing right wing obstructionism. They adopted that strategy on his inauguration day, long before this bill was debated for a year and then passed BY A MAJORITY. GROW UP!

          • angelsinca

You have to give credit to Democarts for being able to pass a flawed scheme through sheer deception, and then bragging about the fraud as ‘successful’, just like grown ups.

          • joe schmo

It’s actually too narcissistic for my liking.

          • Can you say Gruber?

          • joe schmo

Well, the election results proved one thing for sure. your side didn’t seem to be too happy with the way things were going with Obama otherwise they would have gotten out to vote. Now you ‘crybabies’ whining about the results and that immature president of ours thinks it’s payback time. Is this really the way to run a supposed civilized Country?

Well that supposed MAJORITY did not show up to vote this time around. Why don’t you grow some.

      • angelsinca

The sovereign nation that gassed its own people, repeatedly violated the UN peace keeping resolutions while terrorizing the population like ISIS is now, and the one that tried and hanged its own dictator? Strangely, the population welcomed liberation by America. The murderous insurgents weren’t so happy it. Neither are the ones that still whine about it.

        • Bob Eddy

History shows that they DIDN’T welcome the “liberation” but viewed it as an occupation.

          • angelsinca

‘History’ shows? Have any citations to back that up? The footage i saw and the reports I read were as supportive of the efforts to liberate the locals from the insurgents and Hussein as the left was in demonizing those humanitarian efforts because of its spite for Bush and Cheney.

          • angelsinca

If course, the left sided anti-American history is, uh, ‘unique’.

    • TMZ1928

Indeed. It was Republicans who went to the White House and told Richard Nixon he needed to step down.

      • Eleanore Whitaker

Actually now. It was the American public who were enraged by Nixon’s approval of the break-in at Watergate.

      • Bob Eddy

The difference is that Nixon committed a crime. Obama has not. Or is that subtle distinction too difficult for you?

    • Impeachment is not an option. I would rather see him arrested and tried for treason, along with his supporters and handlers.

      • TMZ1928

Impeachment isn’t an option because his base would riot, loot and burn our cities down.

        • Bob Eddy

f you. impeachment isn’t an option because he has not committed any impeachable offense. Republican leaders know that. You don’t. His “base,” BTW is just about anyone that isn’t dumb enough to be taken in by the right wing propaganda machine.

          • His base are the liberals and brainwashed democrats, and the dems are bailing. The ones that are too dumb to see what is in front of them are liberals. Treasonous communists that support an illegal tyrant.

          • atc333

Please define “Communists”, and Treasonous” for the ignorant Liberals, and how that definition applies to anything Obama has done while in office.

While you are at it, please define “Socialist” as that is another term the Radical Right loves to throw about.

Unfortunately most do not even understand the theory each term represents, but it sound good to them.

As it is, most experts and political observers consider Obama to fall on the conservative side of “moderate”.

History will find Obama has been one of our more successful Presidents, rebuilding our economic indicators to twice the level they were when Bush II left office, despite 5 years of GOP obstructionism.
Bush II had 6 years of the GOP giving him what ever he requested, and yet still destroyed the US economy, Such is pretty much a repudiation of all the current economic theory which has been, and is still hawked by the GOP as “solutions” for America’s problems, the very problems which those same economic theories created during the past 3 GOP Administrations.

            Go figure.

          • Power corrupts. Absolute power corrupts absolutely. Our rights started to be eroded big time under Bush, but the Emperor has taken even that to a new level. He was elected because people were tired of Bush, but at least Bush was an American, with American values.

Maybe you will find this enlightening?

          • atc333

Strange, if you consider the extensive list of “bad” things to create a Communist America in you link, it would seem the the GOP has been responsible for much of it.

As one example, the fact that American families now have to have two working parents to simply survive in today’s economy, created as a result of GOP economic theory, which destroyed the middle class, and increased the size of those living in poverty, making it impossible for one parent to stay home and raise their children,
The GOP created this economy, and the destruction of the American family, despite their claims they are supporters of family, Nation, and the American People.

Consider another, claim, which describes the effect of the Koch brothers on American politics, massive wealth now being spent to control the minds, and results of US elections, seeing more and more Elitist control of the American political system, .

Then we have the dumbing down of America, with “news” outlets such as Murcoch’s Fox News, which has misinformation, ranking of 66%, worse than MSNBC, and the other organizations.

Why don;t you go back and take another look at that list. Much of what the writer complained about was accomplished by the GOP Administrations, which, with its operatives and talking heads have become the masters of misinformation and distortions of the truth.

I especially liked the implication of the writers desire to seek atomic war, rather than a peacefull solution with the then USSR.

Now then, please cite specific examples of the “Emperor’s ” power, and his usurpation of citizens rights. While you are at it, prove why Obama is not an “American Citizen”.

          • jmprint

            He can’t it’s propaganda as he/she states.

      • Allan Richardson

If impeachment is not an option, neither is arrest and trial until he leaves office — that is, IF he were doing something criminal, which in the REAL world, as opposed to the right wing fantasy world, he is not.

Unfortunately, impeachment IS an option for this crowd because, despite the founders’ obvious intent to make it a last resort for the most egregious misconduct (such as the misconduct which caused Agnew and later Nixon to resign, or the illegal arms sales to finance illegal death squads for which Bonzo was never held to account), it has become an extreme tool of politics, because the DEFINITION of “high crimes and misdemeanors” has evolved into “whatever a voting majority of the House and a two thirds majority of the Senate want it to be.”

Look at our two Presidential impeachments and one near impeachment (and one resignation of a Vice President under possible impeachment) so far in history.

Andrew Johnson was a Southern Democrat who was forced to vacate his seat when his home state of Tennessee seceded from the Union, even though he did not favor secession. As an “elder statesman” no longer in Congress, he was picked by Lincoln as his running mate on the UNITY ticket (not Republican) for re-election, and became President on Lincoln’s death. The Radical Republicans (still known by that name in even Yankee history books today), who opposed Lincoln’s conciliation, had a two thirds majority in both houses, and could not stand Johnson for political reasons. They passed a law, over his veto, which anyone in hindsight could see was not constitutional, requiring Senate confirmation not only to appoint, but to FIRE a Cabinet official (Johnson wanted to fire the Secretary of War; the reasons are not relevant). The radicals passed the law, Johnson defied it, intending to take it to the Supreme Court. Before he could appeal it, they voted to impeach him. They had the two thirds vote in the Senate already rigged, but one Republican sacrificed his political career to acquit him. He was, however, the President in name only for the rest of his term, and neither party would nominate him for re-election (as we know, the Republican war hero nominee Grant won).

The potential (I don’t remember if it was ever mentioned by anyone in Congress, because the resignation happened so quickly) impeachment of Vice President Agnew was averted by resignation, and it was for unmistakably criminal acts, for which he was convicted and served time after leaving office, committed when he was Governor of Maryland.

The threatened impeachment of Nixon, for the arguably criminal acts of campaign espionage, and the cover up of his connection to it, was also averted by resignation.

President Clinton, like President Johnson (not Lyndon) was actually MANEUVERED into an impeachment trap by his Congressional enemies, who started out with an alleged crooked deal in which the Clintons were VICTIMS, and moved from one irrelevant and trivial charge to another trying to find SOMETHING that would stick, finally trapping hm with a choice between telling the truth to a question under oath and revealing his affair BEFORE the other partner was ready to reveal her part in it to the public, and “technically” committing perjury. He chose, as a Southern gentleman, to “protect the lady’s honor” at least until she was ready to confess for herself, and that was the “high crime” for which he was impeached. Although many days of Congress’ time were wasted, he was acquitted AND re-elected.

And now there is talk of impeaching President Obama for, basically, being opposed to the Republican agenda (the agenda of doing nothing). Let’s look at the score so far:

Two cases with a REAL criminal action involved: never impeached due to resignation.

Two cases with a BOGUS criminal charge raised for purely partisan reasons: impeachment trial resulted in acquittal.

If the GOP leaders want to make that second score three for three acquittals, which it would surely be (since even the NEW Senate does not have near 67 Republicans), they can make the people’s day.

And by the way, TMZ, it’s not the LEFT base which has threatened OPENLY that if the democratic process turns out against them, they will consider the Second Amendment alternative — as the right wing tried in 1861.

      • jmprint

Yes SIr Stalin, we know what you would rather want, you have verbalized plenty of times you don’t like the President.

Please check out prior Presidents use of “Executive Orders”. Where were you when the GOP Presidents were exercising those “unconstitutional” powers? Oops, I forgot, then because they were “Republicans”, it was O.K. , now , because it is Obama, it is not.

That is the bottom line. Facts for Republicans have no meaning.

It is no surprise why the Great White Angry Middle Aged Males in the US are all hot to get rid of Obama. It’s for the same reason the GOP wants to impeach a president who knows the Constitution well enough to know he has VETO power when the Senate and House Majorities don’t have the 62% they need to override his veto.

Does this stop the angry little boys? You bet not. And why doesn’t it stop them? Because all of them live such corrupt lives that they cannot imagine having to earn a dime honestly or with any sense of ethics or integrity. They are corrupt to their cores.

Full of himself most of the time? Yes. Blockheaded “all” of the time? What else.

This guy is the icon for the Daycare Generation of Twerps dumped off like sacks of potatoes into daycare before they opened their eyes as infants. Think about it. Masses of little babies dumped into daycare centers all vying for much needed TLC and attention and all they get is some stranger who could care less about one single wailing infant. My theory is that these wailers grow into addicts for attention and learned before they were toddlers how to do that…shout others down, pull tantrums and generally scream and rant till they get their way or some pathetic fool falls for their gross need for attention. You and I know this is not adult behavior. Yet, you can clearly see the armies of these Daycare Generation former potato sacks all massing together as they did in daycare, all wailing for attention and all pulling childish tantrums. This strategy also explains a whole lot about why they appear to be such little bullies and have a paranoid need to be armed to the teeth in public.

  • Eleanore Whitaker

Just when we thought the Cowboys left DC, their Clown Show rodeo is back. With one caveat: They’ve polished up their GOP image to appear to be frat boys. Right…Animal House frat bois…Bluto Boehner, Flounder McConnell, D-Day Ryan and who can forget the preppies Cantor, Inohofe and Cornyn…all preening and puffing…like the bags of Animal House windbags they are.

  • ExRadioGuy15

(Sarcasm) You mean to tell me that the GOP are insane?!? Nooooo, really??? (end sarcasm)
I’ve been correctly saying and writing for more than two years that one of the 10 Tenets of the GOP is insanity….the Cons are Fascist psychopaths; the Tea Partiers are Fascist sociopaths and the “Firebaggers” (Libertarians), whether in their own party or the GOP, are Fascism-suborning sociopaths.
Sociopathy and psychopathology are mental illnesses, therefore, the GOP are insane.

  • 2ThinkN_Do2

Were the families that people speak of being separated, forced to come here? So who is separating who? What about all the families here, from here legally that are homeless, jobless, hopeless, what about them? We seem to be more concerned about illegals than legals in desperate times . . . . and the walls come crumbling down . . .

    • Bob Eddy

No. We are just as concerned about those homeless and jobless people as we are about other families. It is YOU and the republicans that don’t seem to care about them. The Republicans who have left a jobs program that passed through the Senate a year and a half ago to sit on Bonehead’s desk. You and the Republican party that refused to consider extending unemployment benefits to those without jobs. You and the Republican party that won’t let and normally slam-dunk highway bill even be voted on. You and the Republican party that has done nothing for the past five years but vote on bill after bill to “repeal Obamacare” and live tens of millions without medical coverage once again. I could go on, but you probably are already totally confused by FACTS since the right wing echo chamber is entirely devoid of them.

      • 2ThinkN_Do2

No confusion here, when I was out of work for 17 months and there was only 9 months of unemployment on 2002 era, I spent my savings to survive, I worked odd jobs to pay the bills, including child support and medical care for them. When I finally found work, I eventually worked two jobs, 5 day a week at one and the other 2 days at another. Did that so I could get out of debt and still to this day, I pay for medical care for my now adult children 21 & 24. When I was that age, I paid for my own medical care through my job. Extending unemployment does not put people to work, FYI.

        • jmprint

It does not put people to work, but it helps them survive while they look for work, keeps them off the food stamps and off the streets.

      • Just how many bills were stopped by Reid because they did not meet HIS agenda? Try again.

        • jmprint

But again why were they stopped if not because every last one of them has and attachment against ACA.

Who is Barack Obama? Is he merely a typical politician, at heart a political activist or a “liberal” ideologue? Some members of major news outlets, entertainment figures and political activists have painted him as a kind of political messiah. He is the first recipient of the Nobel Peace prize, without having accomplished anything warranting the award, other than writing a book – containing content that is dubious at best. Even in Hollywood, during a public performance actor Jamie Fox portrayed Obama as a kind of world savior……….albeit a charlatan…ehhhh!

    • Independent1

albeit a charlatan?? Wow!! This charlatan has sure been prolific here in America – his “charlatan” activities have accomplished more for America than what the 4 GOP presidents since Eisenhower accomplished ALL PUT TOGETHER!!!!

      – Obama’s policies have achieved the highest
level of consumer confidence in the past 7 years.

      – Obama’s policies have resulted in a stock
Market that’s at the highest levels in history restoring the retirement accounts for millions of American seniors that were trashed under the Bush administration (the market has virtually tripled in the past 5 yrs).

-President Obama has been the smallest spending president since President Eisenhower by averaging less than 2%/yr budget increases compared to those of President Reagan and G.W. Bush which averaged more than 8%/yr; and the increases of President G.H.W. Bush which were 5.6%/yr and even President Clinton who averaged 3.6%/yr.

-President Obama has reduced deficit spending faster than any president since Truman; cutting deficit spending from the 1.4Trillion/yr that was passed to him in the last budget of G.W. Bush to under 500B/yr within his 5th budget.

-There have been more than 54 straight months of job growth (the longest continues period of positive job growth in American
history) with more jobs created in the last 5 years than were created in all 8 years that G.W. Bush was in office (When President Bush left office there were more than 400,000 less people working in America than when he took office in 2001).

-President Obama ended the war in Iraq – as he promised; arguably saving the lives of potentially hundreds of American

–The 9/11 perpetrator, Osama bin Laden, was eliminated and al Qaeda has been severely weakened.

-The war in Afghanistan is virtually winding down – as President Obama promised.

-President Obama’s diplomatic efforts have gotten Iran to rework all their uranium into non-weapons grade form such which has made Iran far less of a nuclear threat to the world.

-Millions of students are receiving college loans the past couple years cheaper than ever before because President Obama
used an Executive Order to cut the banks out of the loan process. And President Obama’s use of Executive Orders (EOs) is at the lowest pace of any president in office since 1900. (Every
president in office since 1900 except for President’s Ford and G.H.W. Bush issued at least 100 or more EOs than has President Obama and some presidents more than 1,000 more EOs.).

      – President Obama followed through on the bailout of the American auto Industry which was negotiated by President Bush,
which not only saved the industry from bankruptcy but many economists believe that the bailout together with President Obama’s Stimulus package are what kept the American economy from falling into a full fledged depression. The resurrected American auto industry is achieving profit levels not achieved by it since the 1990s.

-Our government has collected more than 150 billion in tax revenues over the past 5 years from auto industry related companies and workers which would have been lost if the industry had gone bankrupt. The approximate 10 Billion of bailout monies not recovered in the final sale of GM stock, have been far more than offset by the more than 50 billion in interest that our government has collected from the overall TARP loan program.

-In addition to keeping GM and Chrysler as viable, profit making, tax paying American corporations, the auto bailout saved more than 1.5 million American jobs; precluding the need to add billions to America’s debt in order to cover unemployment benefits for these potentially unemployed Americans.

-When first entering office in 2009, President Obama directed his administration to started a “war on fraud in the defense and
healthcare sectors” and because of that, the Obama administration has recovered more fraudulently charged monies (billions) and brought more crooks to justice than any previous president .

-In addition to his war on fraud, President Obama directed the immigration service to concentrate on rounding up and deporting troublesome illegal aliens (those illegals that were committing
crimes and therefore costing taxpayers excessively for their presence in America). As a result of President Obama’s war against troublesome illegal aliens, more of them have been rounded up and deported over the past 5 years than all previous presidents combined (more than 2 million).

-In addition to helping keep America out of a full-fledged depression, President Obama’s stimulus program also energized a number of American green energy related companies into successfully creating alternative energies (solar, wind, hydro and plasma) to such a degree that these alternative energy companies may well make fossil fuels obsolete within the next 10 plus years.

-The Obama Administration has made enough oil and gas drilling locations available to the fossil fuel industry, that gas and oil have been pumped out of the ground over the past 3 years than had been recovered at any other time in US in history. This has resulted in America becoming the largest energy producer on the
planet, recently supplanting Russia and Saudi Arabia for that title.

-Obama has accomplished more in last 6 years than any president
since FDR even those who were in office 8 years.

      • BS. More BS. And even more BS. Propaganda all.

Facts, Facts, Facts, you just can’t deal with them.

      • 2ThinkN_Do2

Seriously: “the highest level of consumer confidence” My confidence or not has nothing to do with Obama and the false image of our economy and society that is being painted through talking points and media, it is as I stated “false”. The societal instability, insecurity is festering like the magma under Yellowstone. You cannot read a book by it’s cover; that could not be a truer statement with regard to human confidence and happiness.

        • Independent1

You’re clearly watching too much Faux News and listening to too many right-wing pundits.

Fact is: The economy has averaged creating 200,000 jobs/month for the past almost 2 years. And if they’re not the greatest jobs, write your GOP legislator a letter and complain; the reason many jobs are lower pay is because:

          1) the GOP has refused to act on either of 2 jobs acts Obama passed them more than 2 1/2 years ago that would have created 3-5 million better paying jobs.
          2) the GOP has refused to even consider raising the minimum wage which the CBO has estimated would have lifted enough people out of poverty to have cut the SNAP costs by 46 billion dollars over 10 years (that would have cut the SNAP budget by 6 billion more than the GOP voted in the House to cut it)
          3) Republicans in virtually every red state have voted ‘right-to-work’ legislation that allows employers to pay their employees wages severely below the poverty level.
          4) GOP supporters like the Koch Bros and Walton’s, chain stores like McDonald’s, Burger King, Target and many others have insisted on not raising the wages they pay even though Senator Warren proved in a congressional committee that McDonald’s could have raised their wages from around 8$ to $10.10 by raising their price for ONE combo meal – raising the price from $7.15 to $7.19 without impacting their profits.

So if you’re not happy with the way the economy is going, the problem has nothing to do with Obama – he’s been more than trying – The problem is clearly the GOP’s refusal to agree to anything that would help the average American.

          • 2ThinkN_Do2

It’s not up to the Government to help people, it’s up to “the People” to help themselves. Minimum wage is worked out of, by your desire to achieve. Today, people want the free-ride; I want a good wage now! McDonald’s cannot afford to raise prices or wages; I quit going to all restaurants as much as I used to, because a Fast Food meal shouldn’t cost me $7 a person. A basic sit down meal shouldn’t be $13+ at the local diner type joint. The problem(s) are the responsibility of everyone who is in politics and who wield the power over the politicians and people. The problem(s) are not party specific, regardless of what many choose to believe.

          • Independent1

Your beginning comments are HOGWASH. Min wage IS NOT A WAGE TO BE “WORKED OUT OF”. It is a reality for many millions of Americans who are even trying to raise families. It is what is being FOISTED on more than 50% of the people who work at Walmart. These are not High School or College People that are working at Walmart and many other stores: these are sometimes single mothers who are trying to take care of families and can’t even afford to educated themselves.

And in right-to-work states, it’s the reality that a great many of the jobs open pay below the poverty level.

You are totally clueless about REALITY. Like I said in the beginning – YOU’RE LISTENING TO FAR TOO MUCH FAUX NEWS AND GOP PROPAGANDA!!!!!!

          • 2ThinkN_Do2

Actually I am listening quite well thank you. Just had physical recently, all is good. As for education, that is provided by our school system; that’s where I received mine. You know why so many are working in these jobs as older people; because they were let go from their better paying jobs, so the employers could hire cheaper labor. This has been going on for decade after decade; it’s not something new. I lost my job 15 years ago for that very reason. It took 11 years to get back to a decent wage, while I paid child support, medical care, etc.. I know too many out of work for the same reason, they were making too much, so they were let go. Two of them have been out of work over a year, why, because they can be (thanks to extended benefits); otherwise they would probably have taken a job somewhere. Personally I am becoming concerned about being overpaid once again at my current employment. I am not Union, I don’t demand raises, they give them, yet I might have been there too long; how sad is that? People used to work at places their whole life, today it’s almost impossible. As for your Hogwash comment, sounds like mud to me.

          • Independent1

Really, well you can thank Reagan for the practice today of letting older folks go to replace them with younger ones who get paid less. The practice all began about 1983/84 after Reagan destroyed the Air Traffic Controllers Union and let employers across the nation know that if the President didn’t have to negotiate in good faith with people working for the government – then neither did they. And he taught them too, that it was the bottom line that was all important – not a company’s employees.

You’ll wake up some day to the reality of the need for min wage.

        • Independent1

I forgot too mention, that 200,000 jobs/mo average for the past 2 years, is almost 3 times the average number of jobs that were created per month during George Bush’s disastrous 8 years in office.

Do you realize that when George walked out the door on 1/20/2009 that there actually over 400,000 less people working in America than when he took office in 2001!!!!!! Now talk about a terrible economy – the worst in 7 decades during his 8 years!!!!!!

    • I see you did read the article. Good. I found it very interesting.

    • Sand_Cat

He’s certainly not even remotely close to a “liberal ideologue,” and if you claim otherwise, you merely add your ignorance and prejudice to that displayed by most of the “conservatives” here.

What is the author going to do to relieve the terrible pressures on the more than 30 million of American citizens on welfare because your prescious species of law breakers known as illegal aliens.

    • Bob Eddy

11 million people, including children, have taken 30 million jobs? Even you should be smart enough to see through that pile of manure! What are WE doing about it? Fixing the destruction that the utter collapse of the right wing agenda created in 2008. Working to raise the minimum wage. Working to reverse the historical imbalance of wealth and income that 40 years of “trickle down” has created. Trying to get through an obstructionist Republican party bills to repair our infrastructure and even trying to reverse 40 years of right wing attacks on collective bargaining. What are you doing? Hoping that hysteria and histrionics can mask the failure of the conservative agenda.BTW, many of those people are not “illegal aliens.” If they were born in this country, they have every much a right to American citizenship has you do. It’s in the Constitution. You should read it sometime.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — The fate of a little-noticed ballot measure in strongly Democratic Oregon serves as a warning to President Barack Obama and his party about the political perils of immigration policy.

Even as Oregon voters were legalizing recreational marijuana and expanding Democratic majorities in state government, they decided by a margin of 66-34 to cancel a new state law that would have provided driver’s licenses to people who are in the United States illegally.

Obama is considering acting on his own, as early as this week, to possibly shield from deportation up to 5 million immigrants now living illegally in the country. Some Republicans in Congress are threatening a government shutdown if the president follows through.

“The Oregon measure tells you these measures are not easy or simple,” said Muzaffar Chishti of the Migration Policy Institute. “The political cost may be significant, even in blue states.”

      Full Image

The state law had seemed to be popular. It easily passed last year with bipartisan support in the Democratic-controlled Legislature and was signed Democratic Gov. John Kitzhaber, who was re-elected Nov. 4.

Opponents barely gathered enough signatures to put the repeal question on the ballot. Immigrant rights groups outspent their opponents 10-1.

Still, the measure failed in every county but the state’s most liberal one, Multnomah, home to Portland. Even there it trailed significantly behind other Democratic candidates and causes.

“It was really the epitome of a grassroots effort,” said Cynthia Kendoll, one of the activists who led the campaign against licenses. “There’s such a disconnect between what people really want and what’s happening.”

Obama made his postelection pledge on immigration despite the drubbing that Democrats took across the country. He said he had to act because Congress has deadlocked on immigration for years.

(AP) In this Friday, Nov. 7, 2014 file photo, people rally for comprehensive…

A bipartisan Senate bill to provide citizenship to many of the 11 million people in the U.S. illegally died in the Republican-controlled House, and with the GOP now holding a majority in the Senate, many believe it is unlikely any broad immigration measure could make it to Obama before the end of his term.

Allowing immigrants in the U.S. illegally to remain in the country generally polls well. Even 57 percent of the conservative-leaning national electorate that voted Nov. 4 favors legalization, according to exit polling for the Associated Press and other news organizations.

Immigration has been seen as a winning issue for Democrats because Hispanic and Asian populations account for an increasing share of the electorate, especially in presidential years.

Eleven other states have granted driver’s licenses to people in the U.S. illegally, and 17 allow them to pay in-state tuition at public universities.

But Mark Krikorian of the Center for Immigration Studies in Washington, D.C., which advocates more restrictions on immigration, says voters often are befuddled by complex immigration proposals and polling questions, overstating the actual support for an immigration overhaul.

The Oregon vote, he said, is proof of that.

“Whenever the public gets that sort of clear-cut, black-and-white issue for tougher controls — even in Oregon, when they’re legalizing dope — they support them,” Krikorian said. “It really highlights how this issue is not a Republican-liberal issue like, say, taxes and abortion, but an up-down issue, elites versus the public.”

Greg Olson, a lifelong Portland resident and conservative, was pleasantly surprised the driver’s license law was repealed by such a large margin in his liberal state. “Licensing for driving I think is a privilege for a legal citizen,” Olson said.

Oregon immigrant rights groups argue that the issue wasn’t as clear as opponents are suggesting after the fact. The state has a relatively small immigrant community — only 12 percent of the population is Hispanic and 3 percent Asian, below the national average for both ethnic groups.

Because relatively little money was spent on the campaign, voters did not know why they should preserve the licenses, said Andrea Miller, director of the Oregon immigrant-rights group Causa.

“This was a very nuanced, very complex measure,” Miller said. “Just because someone voted no doesn’t mean they don’t accept the immigrant community. It doesn’t mean that they don’t want immigration reform. It means they don’t want that particular solution for Oregon.”

Marshall Fitz of the Center for American Progress in Washington, which has argued that Obama should act, acknowledged that the first response of many voters may be unfavorable to immigrant rights groups’ cause.

“Is there an instinct toward security, hunkering down and against welcoming the other?” Fitz said. “That’s part of human nature. But that doesn’t mean instincts can’t be overcome by reason.”

And letting them stay would burden the great majority of ordinary Americans who are dealing with a jobs shortages and stagnant earnings. It is not impossible to get rid of them, it would not even be that difficult. Eisenhower deported three million in three months. It would also be a lot cheaper than letting them stay and collecting more in public benefits than they will ever pay in taxes. Enough already, it is long past time we enforce our laws.

    • jmprint

James where do I find this document that tell me he deported 3 million in three months. I can’t seem to find it.

      • Independent1

As usual, what Bowen posts is not supportable. See my response to him; only about 2.1 million immigrants were deported during Eisenhower’s 8 years in office.

Obama has deported more ‘troublesome” illegal aliens, those that are committing crimes and costing American money, than all previous presidents COMBINED.

        • InformedVoter

Once agan, my friend, you quote bogus stats. Your source in counting those turned away at the border as being deported! In addition, since there are many more entering the open borders, there are more to deport. As a percentage of the population, Obama’s numbers are the lowest in ever!

          • He always posts propaganda.

          • Independent1

You’re clearly one of those brainwashed GOP lovers. Border crossings are at their lowest levels in decades. They’re down over 1 million/yr since 2000. The children that were entering the country WERE NOT crossing the border, they were LEGALLY presenting themselves to border guards and asking for asylum.

Even Senator McCain says: “To somehow say there have not been significant advancements in border security defies the facts.”

Yes , there’s been a small influx at the very southern tip of Texas, but that influx is peanuts compared to what crossings were like during most of the Bush Administration.

(And by the way, despite the fact that the GOP constantly claims that we need to do something about stemming the flow of immigrants, they cut the budget for border security in both 2013 and 2014. Makes a lot of sense right???)

See this article from the NYTimes:

Apprehensions at the Mexican border — the single best indicator of illegal traffic — are still far below their peak: there were 356,873 last year, compared with 1.6 million in 2000.

But after nearly a decade of steady declines, the count has started to rise again over the past year, driven by the rise in the southern tip of Texas, where the numbers so far this fiscal year are up 55 percent. Since October, 94,305 individuals have been apprehended in the Rio Grande Valley alone, topping the count in Tucson for the first time since 1993.

Critics of the Senate legislation, including Senator John Cornyn, Republican of Texas, point to the influx in the Rio Grande Valley enforcement zone as proof that the bill must explicitly mandate “full operational control” of the border within a decade before any immigrants who were once here illegally could be allowed to proceed toward citizenship.

“If we don’t guarantee to the American people that we actually are going to get serious about stopping the flow of people illegally crossing our Southwestern border,” Mr. Cornyn said last week on the Senate floor, “I think we guarantee the failure of bipartisan immigration reform.”

Supporters of the bill say the surge in Texas is small compared with the steep overall decline in recent years, and the Senate legislation, while not formally mandating control all along the Mexican border, would provide at least $4.5 billion over five years for enforcement tools to help finish the job — a significant improvement that would come after two years of budget cutting.

“I have been on the border in Arizona for the last 30 years,” Senator John McCain, a Republican from that state who is one of the eight authors of the overhaul bill, said during the debate last week. “To somehow say there have not been significant advancements in border security defies the facts.”

          • James Bowen

“Kids”, most of whom were actually teenagers, have been a minority in this recent border surge. Most of the surgers were adults. The previous drops in border crossings before the surge began was due primarily to economic factors such as the collapse of the U.S. housing market (many illegal aliens were employed in housing construction, landscaping, contracting, roofing, etc.), as well as improvements in the Mexican economy, which has thus far weathered the recession quite well.

          • Independent1

I’m sorry, I’m not buying any of your MADE UP STATEMENTS. I’ve done numerous searches on some of your nonsense posts and proven that virtually all of them are figments of your IMAGINATION!!!!!!!

          • James Bowen

As you can see above, I don’t post made up statements. Interior enforcement in the U.S. is basically nonexistent right now, and that is why the border surge occurred. Most of them were ineligible for asylum–only those who were minors were, and they were only about 20% of the surgers. And even then they knew what they were doing–gaming the system.

          • Independent1

More BS. The interior immigration service has rounded up and deported more troublesome illegals over the past 5 years than all previous presidents combined. They’ve broken up so many Hispanic families that there have been demonstrations across the country from Hispanics requesting that the Obama Administration slow down its deportation actions. And I have no idea what right-wing wacko created that wikipedia article you posted – but IT’S A CLEAR CUT LIE!!!!!!

I was stationed in the service in Texas in the late 1950s/early 1960s and one of the biggest problems we had in San Angelo was from immigrants roaming all over the countryside.

          • James Bowen

No, they have rounded up hardly any at all. Interior enforcement has collapsed. The LA Times had an article about this back in April:

According to what I sent you, there was almost no illegal immigration in the late 50’s and early 60’s. Considering that we had a tight labor market at that time, that would seem to back those documents up. Frankly, I think those documents are more reliable than hearsay from you.

          • Independent1

Nobody said the Obama Administration has deported unlimited illegals. The Administration has focused on deporting “troublesome illegals” which is what I’ve said all along. And they’ve deported more than 2 million TROUBLESOME ILLEGALS. Those actually costing America money. More ‘troublesome’ illegals than all other presidents combined.

The Administration realized that non troublesome illegals BENEFIT AMERICA more than they cost us by contributing to the economy and performing jobs THAT AMERICANS BORN HERE SIMPLY WILL NOT DO!!! ESPECIALLY FOR THE LOW WAGES THESE IMMIGRANTS GET PAID – AND THERE ARE LOTS OF THOSE JOBS!!!

Now the original issue was your BS statement that Eisenhower deported 3 million illegals in 3 months WHICH IS TOTAL BS. THE EISENHOWER ADMINISTRATION ONLY DEPORTED ABOUT 2 MILLION ILLEGALS OVER 8 YEARS IN OFFICE. SO STOP BEATING AROUND T HE BUSH AND ADMIT YOU WERE WRONG!!!

And the fact that immigration was low back in the 1940s to mid 1960s HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH A TIGHT LABOR MARKET, it had EVERYTHING TO DO WITH A PROGRAM CALLED BRACERO – which authorized granting hundreds of thousands of work visas to immigrants in order to perform work that during the 40s there weren’t enough Americans to perform because of the war, but then later, they did work that Americans simply would not do.

See this from the National Center for Farm Workers website:

The United States entered World War II on December 8, 1941. To meet the challenge of war, industrial and agricultural production increased and much of the nation’s human resources were diverted to the military. Similar to their experiences in World War I, commercial farmers faced a high demand for their products, but growers were without sufficient labor to produce them.

The United States once again called upon Mexico to fill the labor void. The two countries signed the Bracero Agreement in 1943, which began the importation of laborers or “braceros” from Mexico to work in the United States.

Although originally devised to meet World War II shortages, the Bracero Program continued until 1964 under a variety of legislative authorities, ultimately employing 5 million Mexican laborers. Following the termination of the Bracero Program in 1964, farm employers turned to the H-2 program for their labor needs. This program, now known as the H-2A program, continues today.Click here for a link to the current H-2A program.

          • James Bowen

Did you read the LA Times article I posted? Those 2 million “deportations” are mostly border jumpers who used to not be counted as deportations. Also, read what I wrote more carefully. Eisenhower actually apprehended 1 million in the summer of 1954. The rest left on their own accord. By 1959 illegal immigration was for all intents and purposes non-existent. That changed around 1965 when President Johnson, long a foe of strict immigration policies, signed the Hart-Cellar Act, which open the floodgates for more immigration.

There is no such thing as a job Americans won’t do. It doesn’t get worse than coal mining, yet in West Virginia all the coal miners are native-born. The difference is they get paid well for their work. The labor market was very tight in the 50’s and 60’s. That is much of the reason why labor had much more political and negotiating power then than they do now. It was a tight labor market in large part because of strict immigration limits and policies which ended with the aforementioned Hart-Cellar Act. Getting rid of all the illegals and greatly reducing legal immigration would make the labor market tighter. It would open up jobs for unemployed Americans (which there are a lot of right now) and put upward pressure on wages.

Illegals are not a net benefit to the U.S. They are only a net benefit to their corrupt employers. The vast majority of Americans are burdened by their presence in the form of unemployment, depressed wages, and overuse of infrastructure. They are invaders who consume resources and take jobs and put back nothing.

          • Independent1

Get Real!! That LA times article is an opinion piece created by The Nation – a right-wing biased rag and it’s full of blatant lies!!

And you prove yourself to be nothing but a blatant liar also by trying to tell me: There is no such thing as a job Americans won’t do. Only someone mentally retarded like you are would make an obviously outright blatant idiotic comment like that!!

It’s been proven time and time again that there are TONS OF JOBS IN AMERICA THAT PEOPLE BORN IN AMERICA FEEL ARE BELOW THEM AND THEY WILL NOT DO!!!!!!

Conversing with you is like conversing with a 2 year old!!!! You don’t have intelligence to know the difference between right and wrong!!!!!

          • James Bowen

You have got to be kidding me. The LA Times is one of the most pro-amnesty papers in the U.S.

THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A JOB AMERICANS WON’T DO!!!!! Like I said, if they will mine coal in West Virginia, they will do anything. You can’t prove something that isn’t true. Native-born Americans form the majority of the workforce in almost all occupations in the U.S. What you are saying is not only false, it is also grossly unpatriotic and condescending to your fellow citizens.

          • paulyz

Impossible to reason with people on the Left James, that refuse to admit to “anything” that doesn’t conform to their beliefs. Like Jack Nicholson said, “You can’t handle the truth!”

i live in Maine where in order for potato and blueberry farmers here to get their crops picked every year they have to import pickers from Guatemala and other Central American countries. Even the American Park Service here, to get workers to go through the forests and thing stuff out they have to do the same thing.

Even in the hotels/motels in Bar Harbor, vitually every busboy, restaurant server, cleaning maid, etc
come here on work visa from Jamaica and other Caribbean Islands. And I could go on and on – YOU ARE A PATHOLOGICAL LYING FOOL!!!!!!!!!

          • James Bowen

They hire these aliens because they can get away with it. These aliens are scabs who will work for peanuts. Meanwhile, Americans are unemployed by the tens of millions. The supply of cheap foreign labor needs to be reduced drastically (be they legal or illegal). That would open up jobs and well as put upward pressure on the wages in those jobs.

          • Independent1

When Alabama enacted a strict immigration law a few years back, hundreds of companies threatened to leave the state or they would have to go bankrupt because virtually all the aliens they had working for them fled the state AND THEY COULDN’T GET PEOPLE BORN IN AMERICA TO DO THE

          • James Bowen

No, they don’t WANT to hire Americans to do the work. They want cheap foreign scabs who will work for peanuts and won’t complain about bad working conditions to do it. They claimed they couldn’t get Americans to do the work, but their claims were not backed up by reality. They just did not want to hire them. Unemployment in Alabama fell significantly after that law went into effect.

          • Independent1

Your lyting is so prolific it defies the imagination.

When the Alamama companies couldn’t find regualr Americans to work the jobs the aliens were doing, they tried to substitute for them with prison workers, but that wouldn’t even due because the prisoners just weren’t going to bust their butts like the aliens did.

            See this LIAR!!!!!

            From the Huffington Post:

The real-life story has taken a turn for the absurd, as Alabama is attempting to replace the migrant workers who have fled the state with prison laborers, who farmers admit don’t work as hard as their predecessors.

Turns out, Americans who’ve chosen a life of crime don’t have quite the same work ethic as Guatemalans who’ve walked through 500 miles of desert to feed their children.

It remains to be seen what the outcome of Alabama’s potentially disastrous legislation will be, but according to Colbert, desperate times call for desperate measures:

To preserve our precious BLTs we must do whatever it takes… other than offer these people any rights.

Watch the clip above and let us know what you think in the comments. And if you missed it last year, Colbert posted a Web exclusive clip of his entire testimony with a live audience, “Who are not a-holes.”

And I’m back!! And if everything was going just great, WHY IS IT THAT THE ALABAMA LEGISLATURE HAD TO REVISE THE LAW TO MAKE IT LESS ONEROUS????????

          • James Bowen

Again, say those who employed the illegal aliens. What was really going on here is that they didn’t want to raise wages and employ less docile American workers. If those Central Americans are so much better workers than Americans, why aren’t their nations stronger than ours and better places to live than ours? The unemployment rate in Alabama dropped significantly after that law went into effect, and the law was not changed significantly. The most important provision to deny illegals jobs, mandatory E-Verify, remained in effect.

Illegal aliens are invaders and being aliens have fewer rights than citizens and legal immigrants.

          • Independent1

And in case you think the Huffington Post is too liberal, here’s a similar story from Yahoo News which is a haven for right-wing posters and uses Faux News for a lot of its bylines:

(And note – the strict Alabama law drove away not only illegal aliens but also many here legally – and Mercedes Benz even threatened to leave the state because of the bad vibes that Alabama had created with ALL FOREIGNERS!!!!!!)

            From Yahoo News:

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) — Alabama’s strict new immigration law may be backfiring. Intended to force illegal workers out of jobs, it is also driving away many construction workers, roofers and field hands in the country legally who do backbreaking jobs that Americans generally won’t.

The vacancies have created a void that will surely deal a blow to the state’s economy and could slow the rebuilding of Tuscaloosa and other tornado-damaged cities.

Employers believe they can carry on because of the dismal economy, but when things do turn around, they worry there won’t be anyone around to hire. Many legal Hispanic workers are fleeing the state because their family and friends don’t have the proper papers and they fear they will be jailed.

          • James Bowen

Again, they were just mad that their cheap labor supply dried up, and they had to pay market wages to attract legal workers. They could carry on without aliens, as evidenced by the fact that life went on without those illegals.

There is no such thing as a job Americans won’t do. What is really the problem are greedy employers who don’t want to pay a living wage and hire alien scabs.

          • joe schmo

Yah, stupid, these people coming into this country do not stay in the jobs no American wants to do. They get all the jobs Americans WANT TO DO. How do I know this. I live in the most bias state of them all, CaliMexico.

            Thanks Joe!

          • InformedVoter

Talk about brainwash! The number of illegal border crossings has risen to the largest number in history. You may wish to speak with sheriff Joe or any of the other southern border folks about how many are streaming over the borders. Oh, you quoted the NYT? Weren’t they part of the media who said things like “Democrats were not not counted correctly in the polls? Or that the polls were biased towards the right” or, and I loved this one, the best the “Republicans could hope for was 50 Sentate seats and Biden would be the tie breaker”! Your sources, like Factcheck or Snopes are owned by the left Soros folks and, of course they present biased (if not out right false) facts. As I stated, the Obama numbers of deported include those turned back at the border. The number who are crossing through the open borders that Obama created is soaring! If we are to NOW accept the sources and numbers you quote, then the 2014 mid-terms must have seen what your sources claimed would happen. So, that being the case, the Democrats kept control of the Senate and almost took control of the house. OH, THAT DIDN’T HAPPEN? But, to quote you “Factcheck says it’s the truth”. Face the truth. Even in Texas, the two Republicans running on “send the illegals back and protect the borders” got 44% of the Latin vote. Even the Latins don’t want the borders open like they’ve been for 6 years. Why? Because the open borders destroy wages for the rest of the workers.
I can recall some of your posts made before the elections. To be honest, I’m surprised that you even have the courage to comment on behalf of the left after the beating they took. Face the facts, folks got fed up with Obama spending $500 million for his family vacations (proven) and his Islam agenda! To quote some who responed to my original post “you continually quote liberal propaganda but you never really make a valid case”. Here’s another fact for you to ponder — in the races that had the highest turnout, the Republicans won 90% of the time. So you and your sources who claim that the Democrats lost because the population didn’t vote can continue to bask in self-denial!

          • Independent1

I’m not even going to respond to your totally delusional rant FILLED WITH ONE DISTORTION OF THE TRUTH AFTER ANOTHER, other than to say: YOU CAN’T FIX PEOPLE WHO ARE AS STUPID AS YOU ARE!!!!!!!!

        • James Bowen

Actually they are. See my reply to jmprint.

Deportation numbers have actually collapsed under the current administration. The only reason why the numbers are as high as they are is because they started counting border apprehensions as deportations (something which was not traditionally done). In the meantime, interior enforcement (which is where true deportations come from) has collapsed.

      • James Bowen

It can be found in these two places:

About a million were actually apprehended, the rest left on their own accord when they saw the government had gotten serious.

    • Independent1

As with pretty much every thing you post – it’s a load of BS!!

Factcheck went back and contacted historians over some bogus estimates for deportations under Hoover, Truman and Eisenhower, and what they found out about Eisenhower is that at the maximum, 2.1 million immigrants MAY HAVE been deported during his 8 years in office, and many say that count is inflated.

      See this from FactCheck.Org::

Hoover did not use immigration policy to “create jobs” and never “ordered the deportation of all illegal aliens.” During his four-year presidency, roughly 121,000 persons were officially deported or induced to leave through threat of deportation, according to our analysis of official statistics. (We explain our sources and analytical methods fully in the “Where We Got The Numbers” section below.)

Truman did not try to “create jobs for returning veterans” by ordering deportations. In fact, he signed legislation protecting the rights of Mexican migrant laborers recruited legally to help harvest U.S. crops, and was unable to win congressional approval of measures to crack down on employers of illegal immigrants. During his nearly eight years in office, about 3.4 million were deported or left “voluntarily” under threat of deportation.

Eisenhower did not deport 13 million Mexicans. Only one-tenth that number was ever claimed by the federal officials in charge of “Operation Wetback,” and even that figure is criticized as inflated by guesswork. Officially, just over 2.1 million were recorded as having been deported or having departed under threat of deportation.

And with respect to your BOGUS statements on them not paying much in taxes, as usual these statements are also BS.

The CBO estimates that over 60% of illegals not only pay taxes via the payroll tax which they do not get refunds for by filing a tax return; they also contribute to the economy in many areas of the country. For example, in 2013, Texas estimates that illegals contributed about 18 Billion to the Texas economy, and the CBO says that illegals contribute about 7 Billion into Social Security which they cannot make use of because they do not build up quarter credits (their contributions are not filed using a social security number for which they can later claim credits). By paying the payroll tax, they also contribute to Medicare, another benefit which they can’t take advantage of.

      • James Bowen

I never said Eisenhower deported 13 million illegals. I said that he deported three million in three months. About 1 million of those were actually apprehended, the rest left of their own accord when they saw that the authorities were serious. One thing I didn’t mention is that Eisenhower did this with only about 1000 INS agents. If we can deport or entice to leave three million in three months with 1000 agents, it is very conceivable to scale this up to 12 million illegals.

Illegal aliens are a drain on the economy. They only help the economy from the perspective of the criminal employers who profit from their cheap labor. The great majority of Americans pay that bill in the form of lower wages, unemployment, and overextended public services–which brings us to your comment about taxes. Yes, they do pay taxes and yes, they do contribute to social programs which they don’t (supposedly) draw from. What you conveniently leave out, however, is that by virtue of the simple fact that they are here they use other public services and infrastructure (roads, schools, parks, etc.) that were not designed for so many people. In the end, they cost the taxpayer far more than they give back to the taxpayer.

        • Independent1

More pure hogwash!! If the Eisenhower Administration questionably deported 2.1 million immigrants in 8 years, there’s no possible way it deported 3 million in three months. That’s pure idiocy, AND YOU KNOW IT!! Just like everything else you post!!!!!!!!

  • joe schmo

No Republican wants impeachment…..those are lies your media spews.

The folksy Biden wants the top job for himself but Republicans see him as a potentially embarrassing one-man gaffe factory.

Joe Schmo, Republicans can’t impeach Obama because he hasn’t committed an impeachable offense. Could some of you guys read the Constitution?

    • Perhaps if everything was not cloaked in secrecy, and covered up by the liberals, even you MIGHT SEE .

      • J, Dial

I do respectfully understand why you believe there are cover-ups. We’ve seen them in the White House, the state houses, and the local court houses across the land for decades. I was a reporter for years and could tell you stories that would make your hair stand on end, and that’s just at the county level. But the fact is, in this cyber-age, less is likely to be concealed than ever. I don’t agree with the way the president has handled some things, mostly in some of his negotiating efforts. Still, never doubt his political enemies know all there is to know. And they won’t be impeaching him. What I’m hoping is that Republicans will concentrate on domestic and international concerns and make some progress. They will win some, lose some, as will the Executive branch. And we will vote for those people who best represent our views and values. That’s government. That’s politics. I wish you well, Kenndeb, and hope you’ll join me in letting our representatives know how we feel. It’s the best course of action for us all.

One last thought: Voters in countries who have had war on their soil from foreign enemies turn out in numbers above 50 percent. We hoped 9/11 would change our turnout numbers in the U.S. It did not. Even in our largest turnout years, we’re below 50%. Help register everyone you know and get them to the polls!

      • KnoKnees

        They refuse to see…

  • Ran_dum_Thot

What seems to have been forgotten by polittackians on all sides is that Congress is responsible for legislating. In days of old, after both sides huffed and puffed, compromise ruled. Why? Because that kept things moving. Today, party loyalty and spite are more important than following the dictates of the voters. They would rather shut down the country than stick to business. Our population is too diverse to make everybody happy, or unhappy, for that matter. Voters want immigration reform? We have laws on the books to cover legal entry. But let’s update these laws. No blanket amnesty. It’s degrades and insults all those that earned their citizenship or were born into it. I have friends that legally entered the country decades ago. Worked, paid taxes, ss, etc. But because they have no American relative to sponsor them, they cannot become citizens. That is wrong. Yet we want to give away citizenship to foreigners who entered the county illegally, just because they are here.

    • Canistercook

Perhaps that melting pot is not really melting. Seems these days we have a lot of workers and non-workers and the workers have woken up!

  • Eleanore Whitaker

The Republicans, namely Boehner and McConnell brought the impeachment threat to the public eye. It was NOT as some right wing Great White Angry Middle Aged Twerpie Generation males claim …liberal media. There IS NO liberal media…the 6 top media corporations are owned by the 6 top billionaire media titans: Adelson, Charles and David Koch, Rupert Murdoch, Ted Turner and Zuckerberg.

The Republicans don’t dare impeach this president. They made that threat to show their asses, nothing more. They can’t override his vetoes because the GOP hasn’t the required percentage of votes needed to do that.

So ..YES. The GOP would try to impeach, if for no other reason than to remove this president’s veto power which is his Constitutional right.

    • Independent1

But then again, they’re never going to get 13 or so Democrat votes in the Senate to make that happen; they need 67 votes in the Senate.

      • Eleanore Whitaker

That’s true. So why do you think they are pursuing this? Or, is it just to intimidate a president they hate?

        • Lynda Groom

They’ve got nothing of value to offer the American people, so they will continue to suck up to their ill informed and fearful base.

          • Eleanore Whitaker

I so agree. The bigger danger is the ultra right wingers who own the media. Their latest push toward mind control is to make us all believe that all of the states are “Turning Red.” Until you look at the records of how these red states economies survive nearly entirely on federal tax subsidies and exemptions paid for by blue states.

And, if these right wing media billionaires who own the Wall Street Journal, the New York Post, the NY Times and Chicago Tribune as well as thousands of cable TV stations and their subsids, can get all of us to “surrender” and turn the entire USA “RED,” what really is their subliminal message if not hostile corporate style takeover?

The growing number of red states are a huge red flag, because it is all too suspicious that Citizens United was passed, more states are “RED.” So..maybe GREEN$$$ is the NEW RED?

And let’s not pretend that turning ALL states red isn’t exactly what the GOP and right wingers have been after all along.

        • Independent1

Eleanore, I think one reason they’re pushing it at the moment is that they’re using it as just another ‘stalling tactic’. Anything to keep the current Congress from accomplishing anything…just like the sham law suit against Obama for supposedly exceeding his presidential powers – just another stalling tactic to waste time, and money.

          • Eleanore Whitaker

The joke is that now President Obama and the Dems are shoving the GOP’s approval of Reagan and Bush ’41’s using executive authority to push immigration reform. The GOP will look like idiots if they try to say that President Obama using his executive orders is unconstitutional when they allowed that very thing with two GOP presidents.

          • Independent1

Yeah! And Nixon used far more EOs than Obama and even used one to create the EPA – the GOP’s big bugaboo. And I’ve pointed out to a number of trolls that Teddy Roosevelt signed more than a 1,000 of them and Coolidge more than 1,200, both GOP presidents; Obama’s still under 200.

      • InformedVoter

You are correct about having to gather 67 votes to impeach, but why would they even try? It was the Democrats who suggested the Republicans would impeach. It was an effort to rally folks to go and vote. All the quotes from Republicans about impeachment are a direct result from being asked by the lliberal media (yes it does truly exist) about impeachment. But the real issue is why even try? The actions would have to wait until Jan. 2015. The process would take 12-15 months, so Obama would be removed only 3-4 months before his term expired. Why bother? Rather, the House, now controlled by the greates majority since 1920’s, establishes the budget. All they need to do is to revoke any funding for any program they don’t like and toss the budget to the Senate. With obstructionist Reid out of the picture, the Senate would pass the proposed budget. Then Obama could veto it. Without 67 votes, the veto stands. Then the government shuts down and it’s Obama’s and the Democrats who are responsible. The last shutdown, blamed on the Republicans by the liberal media, didn’t hurt and even helped the Repubilcans to their resounding victory in the mid-terms. With the thought of another shut down, enough Democrats seeking reelection in 2016, may cross over to override the veto.

    • KnoKnees

Forget about impeachment. It’s a complete waist of time.

However, if you honestly believe “there IS NO liberal media” you can’t read or recognize the English language! It’s 90% Obama’s media…lying, diverting, not reporting the truth, etc..just like Obama.
      It’s sickening.

  • Jambi

    High Crimes and Misdemeanors?….

  • fred

“America is not going to deport millions upon millions of Latino immigrants and their families to satisfy Tea Party prejudices, even if that were possible. Attempting to do so would be a gigantic waste of taxpayers’ money, an unwelcome burden on thousands of major employers…” So deportations would leave employers with vacant positions they would need to fill? How is that a bad thing when we have LEGAL workers without jobs? As long as there is even ONE U.S. citizen unemployed there is no excuse to let illegals work.

    • paulyz

Right! Besides, we wouldn’t need to “round-up” & deport Millions of Illegals, if we enforced mandatory E-verify and quit giving benefits to Illegals, meant for American Citizens & LEGAL Immigrants, many would leave on their own and many would not come, and those that do NOT return from where they came, can be deported as caught.

  • fred

Didn’t the 1986 Immigration Reform and Control Act get passed on the condition that the border be secured to stop future illegals from entering? It was supposed to be a compromise, but someone cut all the funding required to close the border.

    • paulyz

Correct. This was supposed to be a (one-time Amnesty) when there were 2.7 Million Illegals, and the problem would have been solved had the LAW been enforced! Instead what we got as just the Amnesty without a secure border & Mandatory E-verify, which is why we are still dealing with politicians’ BS. All we need to do is enforce those Laws. Anyone Illegally in the U.S. after 1986, are by Law, supposed to be deported. How many Amnesties must we have? Why Illegals keep coming here, they figure they will eventually be given “another” Amnesty. There IS a bill in Congress called the Promise of IRCA Act, which would just enforce this 1986 Law.

This Adminisrtation has no intention of actually securing the border or passing mandatory E-verify; indeed, they have opposed mandatory E-verify already and refuse to enforce our immigration Laws. Why would any intelligent person believe they would enforce “another Amnesty”? After 6 years, Obama & the Democrats have not done so.

Well, my hope is that Obama gets NO funding. We will be watching our representatives. They better not screw it up.

        • bckrd1

That is why there is a problem they cut funding from everything except the MIC and then they say it’s broken and get you riled up so you direct your anger at the wrong people. The Republicans are the reason nothing is getting done.

          • joe schmo

Yah, like they have a choice. Everything that is happening now has everything to do with Liberals and your ‘Emperor Man.’ Sad truly sad…..

    • Justin Napolitano

How the fuc do you stop people that fly here and come with visitor and student Visa;s from over staying their permitted time frame?
Are you going to have a law where everyone has to show their papers, on a daily basis, just to show the are documented? Grow up and get a life, 60 million people a year come here legally so who would go door to door, and verify their legality, the gestapo?

      • fred

We have records of those visa, including when they expire, so you make sure people inform the authorities when they go back to their home country. If the visa has expired and they haven’t left the US you put out an arrest warrant. If they get stopped for anything it will show up and the locals can hand them over for deportation. Not hard to do and I didn’t even have to insult you to try to prove the point…

  • dana becker

Reagan and Bush 41 both did it. Funny they seem to forget that imperialism from them.

    • joe schmo

You have a point but Obama has really taken advantage of the situation politically.

      • dana becker

He has used it less than any predecessor

        • joe schmo

Sure has and in a VERY divisive cutt-throat way. Believe me he is looking for judgement day on the Republicans. Who cares if he’s used it less, his orders are ruining this Country.

          • bckrd1

I think Bush ruined the Country and the Republicans did squat to help clean it up.

They wanted things until Obama agreed to them and then they didn’t want them.

Mitch filibustered his own bill and let’s be honest here.

Where was Mitch McConnell when W did the same thing? Why he was a high ranking sitting Senator of the Republican party. Hmmm. What hypocrisy.

He and his buddy Boehner were both there. They were also there passing every bill that wasn’t paid for on the Chinese credit card. Two taxbreaks, two wars that lasted longer than any other conflict that is now a Hydra called ISIS. Yes Obama is ruining the country. Sure he is.

          • joe schmo

Seriously, this is the worst it has ever been and we now hate each other. Nice, huh?

McConnell and Boehner better get their RINO asses together.

Obama just let the Middle East go to ISIS. He sure is ruining America. I can assure you of that.

          • Justin Napolitano

On your death bed Christ will probably decide that you were one of the defective Darwin people that existed and so will allow you and all ofd your pordigy die.

          • joe schmo

Wow, it’s gotten this bad huh? Just who do you think created the mess? The divide we are facing nowadays? Disgusting. Who’s the divide and conquer lord? Decades of progress eliminated with one lousy President. Don’t care who gets in but sure hope it changes in 2016. We need a ‘uniter’ not a divider……

          • One Cool Chick

Soooo…basically what you’re saying is that, even though President Obama has used executive orders fewer times than any modern president (maybe less than any president in the history of the united states America) it’s a moot point because President Obama’s executive orders have been meaner and country destroying. Yes? So using that logic, you’d be okay with him quadrupling his use of executive orders if they were “nicer” and YOU agreed they were good for the country. Yes?

          • joe schmo

The Executive Orders that this man has implemented with his pen and phone have helped in the ruination of this nation. They have gone for the jugular.

I’d agree if they were not bias and destroying the country:)

          • Justin Napolitano

Please die before you poison kills people that have a soul.

          • joe schmo

Dude, I feel so bad for you. You have been so indoctrinated. Wake up before it’s too late. Remember, it is your generation that will suffer the consequences. Maybe you don’t care but I would certainly think about it……

      • Justin Napolitano

        Shut up!

        • joe schmo

If you don’t like my comments then block or ignore me. This is still a free country:)

  • Justin Napolitano

The “secure the border” manta is a canard constantly voiced by the Republicans.
The border, by the way, is just not on land, it is the by the sky and by rail and sea. How do you close a border that allows 60 million foreigners access to the US each year legally who come by air and then decide to stay in the US undocumented? Are you going to go door to door and demand to see every’s papers?
The US is the third most populated country in the world and we need comprehensive immigration reform to help solve the problem. Republicans do not want to solve the problem because they use it politically to sprout their BS.
The problem is not going to be solved as long as there is a way for Republicans to block it because if they did they will have just one less thing to complain about the Obama administration.

    • joe schmo

“Are you going to go door to door and demand to see every’s (you mean everybodies, right?) papers?”

YES we are. They used to do this with the illegals in the fields. Every month, the plane would fly over, the Mexicans would run to the creeks and a van would come by to pick them up and DEPORT.

Your just a young whipper snapper. I can tell by your name. That means you don’t know squat. Just remember it will be your generation that suffers the consequences and, by the way, the Republicans are not against immigration reform. In my opinion they can all go home for all I care, but I can also see a program like the ‘bracero’ program (look it up if you don’t get it) that California used to have. Guest worker. They come here to work and after the season, they go HOME. No drivers license, no food stamps, no milk for the babies, no school attendance, no bilingual, nada, zip.

      • Justin Napolitano

You are a fucing moron and the Immigration Service is not going to go house to house to find 11 million undocumented people living in the USA.
Your stupidity is only exceeded by your lack of compassion for other human beings.
Please find a way to find a life in your soul?

        • joe schmo

Do you even know how to spell ‘F’ing? I think economically, going door to door would save more money for the U.S. than allowing all 11 million (and more coming in) to remain here.

How compassionate do you want to get. We have laws don’t we? I suppose they are no longer relevant? Anarchy? Are you willing to give up everything and become no better than Tijuana?

Has nothing to do with compassion. Liberals never think about the consequences of their actions. Look at Obamacare. “We have to pass it to see what’s in it.’ Nice! What a joke it has become.

‘Life in my soul.’ Seeing that you are young leads me to believe you don’t know much about how your parents lived. A much better life. I can assure you of that. My parents came here LEGALLY. They had to jump through a lot of hoops to live the American dream. Why should these ‘F’ers get a free ride on our shirt tales. No way. I feel no compassion for freeloaders who know how to work the system. How do I know this. I live in the biggest downfall to American society of them all, CaliMexico.

  • I_M_Forman

If the voters wanted the GOP to work with Obama on his agenda then they would have elected Democrats.
