5 Ways You Can Fight Back Against Donald Trump

Imagine my narcissism. I’m pretty sure that I helped the singularly most unqualified candidate for the presidency win the office, defeating — by a very slim margin in crucial states, and with a losing share of the popular vote — one of the most qualified, a woman whose election alone would have been one of the great moments in American history. And I’m sorry.

Let me explain how I know I helped Donald Trump get elected.

This spring, an Irish friend invited me to a bar in Helsinki, Finland to have a beer with his friends, an American expatriate who’d married a Finnish woman — a leading cause of immigration to the Nordic nation. Like almost everyone we knew, we laughed about Donald Trump. Then like people from liberal nations all over the world, they sought assurance from any actual American resident they could find we wouldn’t elect this maniac to replace Barack Obama. I felt it was my job to assure them, and they seemed thankful for the slight relief.

After a couple more beers, I did something ridiculous. I revealed my secret identity: I’m @LOLGOP, I explained, a nobody who makes dumb jokes about conservatives on Twitter.

The American expatriate pal seemed a bit amused but shifted to get comfortable in his seat again.

“You know,” he said. “They laughed at Hitler.”

“Yeah, I know.”

I let him know that the way the intelligentsia and artists had laughed at Hitler and perhaps had enabled him had become, briefly, a popular subject of conversation among liberals online. Then I recalled the chilling moment in the musical Cabaret when the facade of hedonism and decadence is shattered by the crowd rising in near unison with the Hitler Youth to sing “Tomorrow Belongs To Me” — revealing both the chauvinistic allure and implacability of the movement that transformed one of the most advanced civilizations into one of the most savage.

“Good,” the expatriate. “I’m glad you know that.”

But I forgot it.

I spent the next half a year mocking Trump’s hypocrisy, inconsistency and comic unfitness for office and the delusion of anyone who imagined otherwise. And — worst of all — I invested tens of thousands of words in the cause of explaining that Donald Trump just could not win.

We were too smart to be conned by him, at least compared to GOP primary voters. Our immune system would seize upon him, I promised anyone who’d listen, with great vengeance and render him into his proper place among history’s great punchlines.

I was wrong and did the exact opposite of what my duty was: I should have been warning you that he could win and what would happen to this country if we were unable to stop him. I should have been knocking on doors every chance I got and encouraging others to do the same. I doubt my trickle of influence would have meant a damn thing, but at least I wouldn’t have been Donald Trump’s accomplice.

I doubt I’ll ever forgive myself for the mistakes I’ve made, but — like you — now all I can do is fight back.

Here is what I think we need to do next.

1. Admit to yourself that Trump and the GOP are much more powerful than we imagined.
Just about every candidate who got in a fight with Donald Trump over the last 16 months lost. He tore down their careers, their personalities, their families. And he helped destroy their approval ratings. You can say that Bernie Sanders is still the most popular politician in America who isn’t Michelle Obama and he could have beaten Trump. Maybe. Trump wouldn’t have had FBI Director James Comey, Wikileaks, and Vladimir Putin on his side in the war to destroy Bernie. But he had a plan and it involved name-calling, of course. There’s a unique power in a man fueled by a monstrous lust for power who has none of the worries most of us possess when it comes to money or conscience. We’ve never experienced anything like this before in American history. Trump cloaked his financial obligations and is promising to continue as president with his business interests still directly controlled by his family. He not only embraced Putin’s foreign policy goals, he justified Putin’s authoritarianism as a model of governance. And he figured out how to get the Republican Party and its vast network of power and influence on the side of Putinism with the simple promise of their choices of Supreme Court Justices and generous tax cuts for the rich. The Koch brothers’ Kochtopus allegedly “sat out” this election, except for the tens of millions of dollars they helped pour into the Senate elections, including decisive wins in Wisconsin and Pennsylvania. You’d think their “libertarianism” would be offended by a president who rages against the rights of anyone but himself, but their family’s history of abetting despots seems more relevant than ever. Even the Comey letter, a disgraceful intervention into a free election, appears to be the result of right-wing influence within our own government trying to destroy a candidate for president. And the assault on voting rights — which was almost completely ignored by the media — may have provided just enough help in the margins to keep a significant number of minority voters home. We assumed demographics would destroy a party that relies almost entirely on white voters. But we have to face the reality that we “may be in a reinforcing feedback loop of growing inequality and Republican rule.”

2. Realize that you can’t sit this out. There are risks for you and your family.
The newly elected president of the United States is already attacking the New York Times, again. Ask the few Republicans who remained steadfastly against Trump what sort of abuse and threats they’ve faced. Trump fans have been directed to take on the press and they’ve done so joyously, targeting minorities, women, and Jewish journalists with particular viciousness. And among the hundreds of people Trump has attacked via Twitter, he’s never once taken on the white supremacist forces that back him. Instead, he’s graciously retweeted them dozens of times. Soon, he will have the power of the greatest military and law enforcement machine ever assembled by humanity. First, it seems, he’ll go after the DREAMers — young undocumented Americans brought here as kids. Next, the Muslims? National stop-and-frisk? A new drug war? A 21st century “Alien and Sedition” Act? We are facing something entirely unprecedented here. Trump has campaigned on abridging our rights and as a writer who studied actual Putinism reminds us, the first rule of surviving in an autocracy is “Believe the autocrat.” He’s going to do what he says. Life is hard enough. You may not want to get on his or his lackeys’ radar. But you have to recognize that not everyone has that choice. And you may not have it forever.

3. Realize that millions of your neighbors cannot sit this out.
Millions are threatened with deportation. Millions will lose their health insurance. Millions of poor people will find that their few reproductive rights will begin evaporating. Most of the advances of the LGBTQ community are now at risk. The rights of free worship, free speech, and free assembly have all been questioned and threatened. We know Trump will lie to justify anything he needs to do to maintain his self-esteem. And he’s making allegiance with nationalist, ethnocentric right-wing movements across the globe. We know he will accept no defeat and may begin to attack the foundations of our government that do not bend to his whims. In 2004, after George W. Bush was re-elected, the left was distraught. But we never imagined that there might not be a chance to elect a new president in four years. Now we have to accept that the prospect of American democracy being quickly eroded is very real.

4. We need to fight, everything.
For now, our institutions exist. There is still another Senate election that will be held this year. Every vote that Trump cannot count on in the Senate is a hedge against his power, until he abandons the normal bounds of our Constitution. Republicans can do many horrible things with 51 votes in our upper house. But a number of Republican Senators have proven resistant to Trump in the past and would likely not want to surrender the filibuster to him or give him a free hand to appoint anyone he choses. So let’s make him pay for every unpopular policy choice he embraces and build a fortress of resistance around the cornerstones of the middle class. We need to scream about the trillions in tax breaks he’s about to give to the richest, who have never been richer. We have to defend Medicare and Social Security from any cut proposed. Defunding Planned Parenthood is coming. The pain and dismay will be real. And then never let voters forget what’s been taken away from them. And we need to make sure Democrats know they should not vote for any repeal or replacement of Obamacare that takes health insurance away from one American. The way to do that is with phone calls. The way to do the rest is more complicated.

5. You can’t rebuild liberalism yourself but you can get out and be a part of what does.
Tweeting and Facebook aren’t enough. I’m speaking to myself mostly here. Getting off my ass is paramount. Volunteering at Planned Parenthood or the ACLU is a start. Getting involved in politics directly, in your precinct committee or county party is essential — as is traveling out of the circles you normally travel in to understand how many millions of people who were smart enough to vote for Barack Obama cast a ballot for Donald Trump. The right wing has professionalized politics with think tanks, non-profits and publications that are supported by hundreds of millions of dollars. (You can’t counter that alone. Unless you’re a rich bigwig with influence in the national Democratic movement. In that case, get to work.) We have to find a way to replace the crucial ballasts of unions and strong public education to make it clear to working people of all races that only one party has their interests in mind. Peaceful protests are fantastic if they are the beginning of a grind. A daily grind. A weekly grind. A monthly grind. Whatever you can grind. Get out. Being with people matters. (Again, mostly speaking to myself here.) We cannot forget that the Congressional maps will be redrawn in the next 5 years. We can’t let this opportunity, if our system, exists slip by. We need to elect Democratic governors in states like Michigan, Florida, and Pennsylvania to have any hope of winning Congress again and fixing what Trump and the GOP are about to do.

I’m sorry for the horrors I did too little to prevent from being unleashed. Now I have to do better — and I hope we can do it together.

          We have to continue fighting the fascist Trump movement. My dad and 3 of my uncles are WWII vets. Two uncles are Korean war vets. I have 2 cousins and a stepbrother who are Vietnam vets. Some of my brothers, cousins, nieces and nephews have fought in the Iraq wars and in Afghanistan. Not all of them came back in the same condition they were in when they were deployed. You never put your life on the line for this country and neither did they for the Trump fascist movement.
          What they fought for was freedom guaranteed by our Constitution and to stop threats to the freedom of others in the world. In battle they fought for their brothers and sisters in arms no matter what their religion, skin color, politics, or immigration status. They were all Americans 1st, last, and forever.
          None of the surviving vets in my family support Trump. In fact some have a burning hatred of the man and everything he represents.
          While Trump represents a danger to everything good about America and makes us a laughing stock in the eyes of the rest of the world, we can’t retreat and let the man who dodged the draft and was deemed unfit for service destroy everything that our brave men and women have fought and died to preserve. We owe at least that much to those who never made it home. Don’t let their deaths be in vain.
          While things look bad now with Republicans holding the presidency, both houses of congress and soon the Supreme Court as well as the majority of state governments, veterans out manned and out gunned in battle have faced much worse but through strength, ingenuity, spirit, and perseverance prevailed despite the odds. This is a different kind of battlefield. Hopefully no bullets will be flying on this one. Still it is important that we join together as patriotic Americans and fight by all legal means necessary to protect and preserve our democracy.

Then, amazingly, you had people betting AGAIMST the housing bubble. One guy made over 400% betting on the fail. You cannot make up this stuff. I have watched that movie and Too Big to Fail so many times and I still do not get what they did to destroy this economy but it was not a president or senator. A broker driving through her high end territory showing off her wins. I first sold this one for $350K, turned it over for $475K, A stripper had five properties with 2 mortgages on each. Except for the none disclosure bill signed by Clinton, put forth by republicans, all the banks greedy fault and they are at it again as we speak.

The Iraq war started in 3/2003 and the US ended combat operations in 8/2010. Also fixing the infrastructure requires funds that the Republican Congress never voted for. IF my husband had sat still as these people are doing, waiting for his plant to miraculously come back with it’s wonderful $5,000. bonus a year and rising at the time we would be vilified. Where are our personal responsibilities? He took less paying jobs with barely any benefits to make it. I got back into the job market at 38. I was a housewife for the first 14 years of my marriage. I love my job. Health insurance. I love the business. May retire next year. 30 years.

When our youngest started school, I got a job and will retire after 30 years next year. My husband got a number of jobs until he got the right one. HE even had the guts to leave Ohio, go the Nashville, get a great job and sent money home while still looking for work here until he got it. WE bought our home ten years later and put three kids through college. IF I hear one more of you lying, hypocrites castigating black people about this, I will scream. You do not hear one person in Flint whining. They had the wealthiest population in the country and 70% black. Jobs moved and they have not come back and all they get is poisoned by uncaring white republicans. Hold your breath waiting for him to bring BACK HIS jobs he shipped out to Asia and Mexico.             You will notice that it was only CrowdStrike who outed the Russians who hacked into DNC emails. Now, Comey suddenly has lost all interest in investigating that. He knows why.

We need to organize, be ready to resist in case things go as badly as some of the things Trump has said suggest they could. Because trust me when I say that on the alt right, there is a small but organized movement that has been energized and normalized by Trump, whether that’s what he intended or not. America has its own small army of Brown Shirts in the wings, just waiting for a call to action. We need to take the anger, fear and frustration that is leading some to riot, and redirect it towards organized resistance, preparation for a day that we all pray won’t ever come. We need to give those angry people a place to go and something constructive to do, or as you say, they will help build energy for the wrong solutions to the nation’s problems. Already Trump is blaming the media for the violence, building public support for an effort to silence the press. It’s time to learn from history and do things that keep it from repeating itself.

    I watched Cabaret during the primaries with my niece, and I remember that chilling moment. Trump had already flirted with the idea of special ID’s for Muslims, as well as a national database, and defended the Japanese internment camps in a context that involved Muslims. When we saw that moment in the film, that hauntingly beautiful, optimistic song, juxtaposed with images of swastikas, both of us shuddered. My niece pinned a YouTube clip of that song to her Twitter page for awhile, and I warned friends who were thinking of voting Trump how easily the same sentiments Trump had been expressing once led to the Holocaust. We took a lot of heat for it, and our arguments fell on deaf ears. The problem is, people have been casually flinging around Hitler analogies for decades. Republican’s call Hillary Hitlary, etc. Nobody takes it seriously. Over a year ago, Eva Schloss, Anne Frank’s stepsister, and a number of Holocaust survivors warned that Trump and his followers were sounding too much like Germany in the years leading up to Hitler’s rise to power. While the rest of us fling the analogies around without thinking about the meaning, I guarantee, survivors don’t. We should have listened.

    To the argument that this language only further divides the country, I respectfully disagree. It is more than ever important that the warning be sounded. MAYBE Trump won’t be as awful as he’s sounded during his campaign, (he’s certainly trying to reassure people he won’t be) but right now we need to take his promises seriously, and be ready to resist every way we can. The German public was silent as their country plummeted towards Krystalnacht. They didn’t want to believe things could go so wrong so fast. Their history shows that they absolutely can.

We either reflect on the results of this election and take steps to correct everything that went wrong, or we are going to become a minority party for many years to come. In addition to that, we must work with moderate Republicans to accomplish objectives where there is common ground, such as investment in infrastructure. Intransigence, obstructionism,and the promotion of hatred may work when you have an audience that shares our views. It does not work when the opposition enjoys the support of most of the country, and our values and vision were soundly rejected. Yes, Hillary won the popular vote, largely because we still control the most populous and wealthy states in the Union, but she lost the Electoral College vote, Dems failed to gain control of the Senate and the House, and the SCOTUS is going to move to the far right in the not too distant future. Continuing to demand the implementation or advancement of policies that have been rejected by most States, at a time when we are not only out of power, but when the results of the election indicate, once again, that are views and goals are being rejected, is political suicide.

    We know what we heard and saw. To prove what these Republican hicks do is simple:
    1. They rig the Electoral College by changing the voting district maps so the GOP gets more electoral votes.
    2. They smeared the hell out of Hillary while refusing to FORCE Trump to disclose HIS taxes.
    3. They got Gowdy to spend millions on phony investigations ONLY to smear Hillary and scare off any other women who dare to try to become president of the US.

    I vigorously dissent from your endorsement of joining or working for the ACLU. While I think some of its work is quite salutary it has long since ceased to be a legitimate and non-partisan defender of civil liberties…it is now a very left-wing..indeed markedly left-wing pressure group meddling into numerous issues that have nothing whatever to do with constitutional rights. No less than Prof. Alan Dershowitz has resigned from it because of this.
    I also should point out it has become a huge multimillion dollar marketing machine under its leftwing director, Anthony Romero, taking in huge sums of money while Romero is paid a very large 6-figure salary…way above what one might think appropriate for a non-profit organization.
    I wish so much responsible civil libertarians would form a new legitimate civil liberties organization that would take up the mantle the current radical leftist ACLU has long ago thrown into the gutter.

            Elliot, I have always respected your opinion. I am also a senior Citizen, a former single Mom and business owner at a very young age of 22. After my divorce, I was forced to give up my business or share the profits with my ex, who had nothing to do with the business operation ever. I chose to bail. I was extremely fortunate to be hired by a female entrepreneur who was a SBA ombudswoman back in the late 1970s, owned her own business and had a lot of friends in “high places” in government. I was quite taken aback at the number of Congresspersons and Senators in and out of her office, mostly in an effort to preserve the significance of small businesses. She became the president of NJ Assoc. of Women Business Owners, president of NJ Business and Industry and was honored by then Governor Kean to head the new SWIMB group in Trenton.

            If I learned anything from Elizabeth T. Lyons, it was that women must always have a voice in the government they pay taxes to. She mentored the women who worked in her management consulting and tech recruiting firm to always stand their ground when they fought for equality or what we knew was right.

            Like ETL, I am an altruist to the max. I raised 2 sons alone and without help, rejected alimony in order to permanently cut the marital ties and given the age of my sons at the time of my divorce, received $75 a month in child support for a grand total of 5 years before the eldest was emancipated. And on a salary far less than the men I worked with earned, paid off the mortgage on my home.

            By that time, I worked for Frank Lautenberg at ADP as a Reports Administrator to the VP of Operations. In my lifetime, I’ve had only 4 jobs in the private sector, each time going to the next level until my last job in environmental engineering was as a tech writer who got accounting manager dumped on me by the owner’s son who discovered I had done accounting in the past.

            In all of those years of working, I can truthfully say that all of the employers were fair and for the most part honest. It was ironically the owner’s son who was much like Trump, always had to have his way even when it meant losing tons of money, always bullying the men he hired. He never tried that with me. He knew I would leave him and his accounting in a lurch, if not report what I knew he was doing to hide profits from the IRS. This guy got a $75,000 fine for refusing to abide by NJDEP certification laws for his lab. So, in order to pay that, he had to close the laboratory and keep only the PhD from MIT and the Brit from Cambridge on. The company didn’t last more than a year after that.

            The problem I have is knowing TOO Much about Trump that so many others do not. They’ve fooled themselves into falling for his smoke and mirrors games. I cannot in good conscience reject everything I was taught by my parents and teachers about right and wrong just so a man can boost his egotistical maniacal ego. I have a conscience.

            I agree. Sometimes, the wrong decisions have consquences. But in the end? Right always wins out and wrong ends up in destroying the most hateful, destructive people.

      I may agree with you about the direction the ACLU has taken, BUT if Trump is in fact going to carry through with many of the threats/promises he made during his campaign, this is not the time to let differences over such things keep us from uniting against a bigger problem.

      If Trump intends to be the authoritarian leader he has promised to be, his first step will be to muzzle the press. He has already signaled that it’s a priority. He’s blaming the media for the protests and riots, and has already whipped up his following against journalists. He will use the power of his office to see journalists fired, and use threats such as IRS audits and other investigations to make people toe the line. He will try to get laws that make it possible to punish journalists who criticize him. If he succeeds, our other constitutional rights will be on far less solid ground.

      We can quibble with the ACLU about some of its actions another time. If they are ready to stand and fight for the First Amendment, they have the infrastructure and organization to do it. We can’t turn up our noses and try to start from scratch. If Trump is the man he has appeared to be during the campaign, we won’t have time.

        Oh I will support whatever the ACLU does to legitimately protect our rights against what may indeed come about..please don’t misunderstand that. I can’t see that he will SUCCEED in punitive laws against journalists…he opined during the campaign he’d get the libel laws “opened up.” If he weren’t a complete constitutional ignoramus he’d know libel laws are STATE laws and there is no federal jurisdiction so he can’t get that done. If he tries to punish journalists in a repeat of the Alien & Sedition Laws repealed under Pres. Jefferson he’ll be slapped down by the courts. The thing that worries me is he is an authoritarian who might disregard the courts and the constitution altogether and provoke a constitutional crisis the likes of which we’ve not seen and the outcome of which may well provoke violence and plenty of it.

Fourth, we must develop an agenda – and clear and concise proposals – to address how we think we could strengthen the economy, restore fiscal solvency, and create jobs four years from now. Fifth, we must stop relying on the opinions of pollsters and media talking heads, and listen to what people are saying. Not only in populous and wealthy states, but in most of the USA, where millions of people are convinced that our economy is in trouble, that trade deals are undermining our economic might, and that government policies – and liberal politicians – are the reason for the loss of manufacturing and mining jobs in the USA.
    The character and moral issues we focused on shed light on disturbing behavior, but the perceptions that exist in the USA on the root causes for pocket book concerns trumped everything else, and were the determinant factor for the outcome of the 2016 election. Hillary failed to respond in kind, did not clarify issues in a way that would convince voters, and paid dearly for her complacency or reliance on the wisdom of the electorate.

However, I recognize that he won the election consistent with the tenets established in the Constitution, and see no point in engaging in futile protests and similar endeavors. I am more interested in analyzing what happened, determining what influenced the outcome of the election, the reason so many Democrats voted for Trump or did not vote at all, the reason 42% of women voted for Trump and so many African Americans did not vote, than engage in actions or rhetoric that will not contribute to us regaining power in 2018 or 2020.

        Actually, I agree with what you said 100%. Trump, and Hillary, thought that creating infrastructure jobs was going to satisfy those that have been displaced by the emergence of automation, coal miners that want to do the same exact job their fathers did at a time when people are much more conscious of our environment and transitioning to cleaner energy. The truth is that none of our “angry” unemployed fellow Americans have any intention in doing anything to improve themselves to qualify for the many high tech jobs that are currently going to foreigners entering the USA with H1b visas. They are definitely not interested in doing the work that illegal immigrants are performing. Most importantly, they have no interest in anything other than what they believe is their God given right: to put a few screws in a car or other product several hundred times a day doing assembly line work, get black lung disease working in a coal mine, or earn $70K a year working in a steel mill. It is not that they are ignorant, or lazy, but that they refuse to recognize that the world has changed, and that the jobs that allowed their fathers and grandfathers to earn enough to support their families and live comfortably are gone and are not coming back, Trump or no Trump. They want the country to go back to the way things were a few decades ago, at a time when our country and the rest of the world is moving forward.
        BTW, many of those “angry” blue collar workers are Democrats, and they helped deliver the 2016 election to Trump, not because what the Donald told them makes sense, but because The Donald addressed issues and concerns that matter to them.

        I agree, and when Trump tries to bring jobs back to the United States, they will find out quickly that they are no longer capable of taking those jobs…..they will be computerized, robotized, and everything else. Hillary wanted to get money from Congress to re-train these people so that they COULD function in the new manufacturing platform, but they didn’t see that. They figured that Trump would give them an “easy” way to get their jobs back, but it ain’t going to happen! They have not taken advantage of retraining and have sat in their barcaloungers hoping for a miracle. Well, the miracle still isn’t here and Trump will NEVER be able to keep his promises to them! They were conned by the biggest con artist in the country…..too bad it’s too late for them to realize their mistake!

Not only do they control the presidency, thanks to the antiquated and undemocratic electoral college system, they also control the Senate and the House, and by default the judicial branch of government thanks to a system of apportionment that allows states sparsely populated to elect the same number of Senators as densely populated states, for example.
        Unfortunately, these flaws in the Constitution are not going to change any time soon. With Republicans in full control of our government, and benefiting from the status quo, the tools that helped them rise to power, will stay in place. Probably for many years to come.

      I was raised a Catholic. I fully believe in the Constutional right to practice any religion of your choice.

      There will be Civil War for the same reason there was a Civil War the first time around: People who want to ram what we know is wrong down our throats. We all knew that the way the south treated black people was absolutely uncivilized and we knew why the rich southern plantation owners needed black slaves: FREE labor. The minute the Emancipation Proclamation passed, the whites in those states hated hated hated having to do work black free labor slaves had done.

      I know this because my ex’s grandmother, Lily Evans Whitaker was half Seminole, half Irish woman who picked cotton on plantations as a sharecropper. She told me that the bitter, resentful whites in the south hated having to do work the black slaves did and as a result couldn’t own land thanks to sharecropper wages. 11 of those plantations back then were owned by the Walton family.

          My younger son lived in Sweden as a professional drummer for 15 years. When he returned, he found a job in the Williams Sonoma warehouse to supplement his band pay. Here is what he told me.

          He said that 90% of the employees didn’t speak much English, had been hired by a recruiter who paid their wages which were barely above the NJ minimum of $8 an hour. But here is the worst part. These people, most of whom were illegals, were never checked against E-Verify and Williams Sonoma got away with paying no employees taxes as they are supposed to. Instead, those recruiters would hire these illegals for a period of 90 days and then get Williams Sonoma to fire them so the recruiter could get a fatter recruiting commission.

          But, all of those illegals were required to pay taxes as 1099s. I pay those kind of taxes and I can tell you that they are the highest in the country for employees. Last year, I earned $3,000 as a part time SEO copywriter and copy editor. Out of that $3,000, the IRS took over $900. You can just imagine the windfall the IRS got from all those illegals.

          My son also told me that when they interviewed him at Williams Sonoma, that he was asked if he spoke English. He said, “No, But I do speak Swedish.”

          All of the OSHA Meetings for the workers were in Spanish and my son got yelled out for not understanding the OSHA regulations that were only provided in Spanish.

          Welcome to Trump world.

          EXECUTIVE ORDER 11921 — allows the Federal Emergency Preparedness Agency to develop plans to establish control over the mechanisms of production and distribution, of energ y sources, wages, salaries, credit and the flow of money in U.S. Financial institution in any undefined national emergency.

          It also provides that when a state of emergency is declared by the President, Congress cannot review the action for six months.

          Feel free to verify the “executive orders” at will. ….and these are just the major ones.

          I’m sure you’ve all heard the tale of the “Frog in the Pot”… Watch Obama’s actions, not his words! By his actions he will show you where America is headed.

          Obama has issued executive orders that seek to “harmonize” U.S. Economic regulations with the rest of the world. These executive orders are yet another incremental step that is pushing us closer to a North American Union and a one world economic system.

          Obama used the stage at the 50th anniversary of Martin Luther King’s I have a dream speech to announce two new executive orders infringing on your second amendment rights..

          The first bans the importation of antique military firearms for sale to sportsman and collectors. He intentionally mislabels them military grade weapons to deceive the people , but make no mistake . . . The order was written specifically to ban the importation of surplus M1 carbines, M1 Garands, 1903 Springfields and other antiques coveted by collectors and sport shooters.

          This order is the death knell for the civilian marksmanship program.

          Congress had previously passed the sportsman protection act in 1986 which among other things guaranteed that the importation of the historic relics for collectors and the CMP would not be impeded by unreasonable regulations.

          Unfortunately, most Americans have absolutely no idea what is happening.

          The American people need to understand that Barack Obama is constantly looking for ways to integrate the United States more deeply with the rest of the world.

          The globalization of the world economy has accelerated under Obama, and this latest executive order represents a fundamental change in U.S. Economic policy. Now federal regulators will be required to “harmonize” their work with the international community.

            I just read a couple of articles…the first one was by a well-known economist on Wall Street, and he said that Trump would be a one-term president. There was a time when my philosophy was “if religion makes them feel better than what does it hurt?” I’ve since realized it hurts a great deal, from scumbags televangelists ripping off my own mother to the manipulation of entire cultures to believe that we are fighting over who’s sky fairy is better. But of course that’s not what we are actually fighting over, it’s resources & control, but religion provides an excuse to the masses. It’s also deeply damaging when people believe that the “next life” is more valuable than this one, after all why worry about anyone’s suffering and dying if eternal paradise is what follows. And p.s., on another note I never said we are alone in the universe, we first are altogether and far from alone and I also expect that in a universe or perhaps even a multiverse where we can actually see 14 billion lights years in every possible direction and have already discovered over a thousand planets orbiting other suns, with billions of suns and billions of planets orbiting those suns, we are almost certainly not alone. And for me, I find the real universe infinitely more fascinating than anything 1st century Jewish peasants could ever possibly imagine.

            ah yes, now I recall the reference. I have been for a while now examining the possibility of moving to perhaps Canada (before they build their own wall) and have not sorted through all the data I have accumulated on how to proceed. This country could become something other than what we have had and other than the Founders intended. I am at an age where frankly I have nothing to lose by anything I do. I have no children (Mama Bear is what I have always been called for taking care of anyone and anything in need from stray animals to stray humans) so that is not a worry for me.             The only problem with moving to Canada, from what I understand from a recent article I read, is that not only will you have to pay US taxes, but you’ll also have to pay Canadian taxes. Secondly, they make it extremely difficult for a U.S. Citizen to move to Canada….you have to have a job lined up or a means to support yourself. They also charge a fee for moving into Canada on top of everything else. From what I read…..they certainly don’t make it easy to just “step” across the border and become a Canadian citizen. I’m checking to see if I am a Canadian citizen….my mother was born in Regina, Saskatchewan, to two U.S. citizen parents, but I think that I am a Canadian citizen because I was born there. I’m checking with the Canadian Embassy in Los Angeles to see if I have dual citizenship in the U.S. and Canada. Wouldn’t that be a hoot!!!

    As I read this, I thought how wonderful it must be to live in a world where reality is just an option. LOLGOP conveniently forgets that those millions who will be deported are in America ILLEGALLY. Our existing president has gone around congress because he lost his majority and couldn’t get his illegal policies enacted. His use of executive orders has been profligate, and the courts have declared his actions to be illegal. Talk about acting like Hitler… Then there is the corruption of Mrs. Clinton. Vladimir Putin has been the straw man erected by the most corrupt campaign in history when they got caught by someone hacking their emails. The emails show an entire party structure that is corrupt beyond what anyone could ever have imagined. NO wonder the Clinton campaign tried to shift the attention from the emails from what is in them to where they came from. But the Russians, most likely, had nothing to do with the emails at all. From what I have found in my research is the hacker is actually from New Zealand. He is the world’s premier hacker. He was caught by the US government doing a Napster on serious steroids. He is seriously angry for what he lost and is doing this to get even. He has the ability to make it look like he is using the same techniques as the Russians.
    Donald Trump is not a racist, and has more women in postions of power in his companies than any other individual. I have done business with a number of his companies as a subcontractor and everyone I have spoken to says that it is ability and loyalty that gets you ahead in his companies. Color, race, religious orientation, and sex mean nothing, just your abilities. I did this work long before he got involved in politics, and, as a subcontractor in Florida, I always got paid, and called back again, because I was willing to work as fast as the project went, and with Trump, things got done quickly. Now he has won, and the democrats have lost. As Obama said “elections have consequences”, live with it.

        Let all of those who voted for Trump, hoping that their jobs that were sent to China and elsewhere will soon be coming back, will keep track of how many jobs are returning to their communities (few if any, I suspect). I hope they consistently check the “Made In” labels on the products they buy to confirm that products currently made in China, India, Vietnam, and other low-wage countries are suddenly Made In America (don’t expect that). And then I hope they make sure that when their financial situations do not improve (while those of the 1% just get better and better), their savior knows that they’re not happy with his performance. And I hope that it won’t be too late to fix things when they realize that they’ve been conned.

            Just read an article in the L.A. Times this morning about how Trump will NOT be able to put most of the Rust Belt workers back to work. They don’t seem to realize that even jobs in China are mechanized, computerized, and roboticized. There are NO jobs that they could do without additional training. Hillary had campaigned on the fact that she wanted to get money to re-train people so that they could function in the new manufacturing platform. According to the people who know, he will NOT be able to recover jobs even if he brings companies back from overseas based on the fact that manufacturing as the Rust Belt USED to know it is no longer the same! They just don’t fit in anymore and won’t unless they go back to school and learn. So, it should be interesting when they figure out that Trump once again “conned” them with his lies about getting their jobs back. I want to wish them all luck with that!

The “ludicrous” idea of building a wall across our borders, is so insane, so completely off the wall bonkers, it barely deserves a demented child’s consideration. The construction of a physical barrier along the US Southern border is completely insane. (Boeing Corporation) one of the largest most tech savvy defense companies in the world, tried just an (electronic fence) with listening sensory posts stretched out across the landscape. Nearly (“$3,000,000,000 B” taxpayer dollars) was spent, and we have nothing left but a pile of junk rotting in the desert sun. It will be the same with any stupid fence. HUNDREDS OF “BILLIONS” of scarce “borrowed” dollars will be squandered, then abandoned. Meanwhile it will devastate whole communities, the lives of millions of people, devastate the environment, wild life migrations, water supply agreements on both sides of the border. Trump and his lunatic fringe maniacs have to be stopped. We are holding the Republican majority in congress directly responsible for the continuation of this criminally insane irresponsible behavior. Target the Republican menace by any legal means necessary. Boycott their products, TV, Radio, consumer goods. Shun them in the community,, Fire them, cut them out of every deal. Contribute to their competitor. Destroy their political infrastructure as if it was a war, because this is a war we can not afford to loose.
