Piers Morgan didn’t exactly make friends today on MSNBC when he declared that fathers don’t want to take paternity leave — because, he said, dealing with babies “just isn’t the most exciting gig in town.”

Dealing with babies also is not the most responsible gig in town.

In our overcrowded world, the tax cost and environmental cost of each new mouth exceeds what that person is likely to pay back in a lifetime. Even one child is an ego luxury let alone a litter.

Why exacerbate that by requiring employers to subsidize it? Personnel officers can find ways to avoid hiring both male and female candidates of reproductive age without fear of prosecution. Child-free employees should not have to take cuts to subsidize them either.
