Donald Trump has announced that he will not be participating in Thursday’s Fox News debate, after the network refused to budge on his demand that Megyn Kelly be removed as a moderator. So is he serious?

It’s very tempting to regard Trump’s latest move as a huge bluff — perhaps a pro-wrestling-style ruse to drum up even more ratings for a major showdown with Kelly. But notably, the Trump campaign now lists an alternate event he will attend instead: a fundraiser for wounded veterans. That’s not exactly the kind of commitment he could use as a political football, and then just drop them to go back to the debate.

While it’s always hard to be sure what in the world Trump is doing, remember this: For every single time people have said he had just gone too far and crashed his campaign — well, that’s when he goes straight up in the polls again.

Meanwhile, Megyn Kelly is holding firm, saying on air Tuesday night: “The debate will go on with or without Mr. Trump,” and standing up against this effort by a candidate to push her network around.

As might be expected, Trump’s statement boasts of his own greatness — his business acumen, his popularity, and the ratings he has generated for the debates themselves — thus making the case that Fox has the most to lose from him bolting.

Actually, Trump’s statement must be read to be believed:

(New York, NY) January 26th, 2016 — As someone who wrote one of the best-selling business books of all time, The Art of the Deal, who has built an incredible company, including some of the most valuable and iconic assets in the world, and as someone who has a personal net worth of many billions of dollars, Mr. Trump knows a bad deal when he sees one. FOX News is making tens of millions of dollars on debates, and setting ratings records (the highest in history), where as in previous years they were low-rated afterthoughts.

Unlike the very stupid, highly incompetent people running our country into the ground, Mr. Trump knows when to walk away. Roger Ailes and FOX News think they can toy with him, but Mr. Trump doesn’t play games. There have already been six debates, and according to all online debate polls including Drudge, Slate, Time Magazine, and many others, Mr. Trump has won all of them, in particular the last one. Whereas he has always been a job creator and not a debater, he nevertheless truly enjoys the debating process — and it has been very good for him, both in polls and popularity.

He will not be participating in the FOX News debate and will instead host an event in Iowa to raise money for the Veterans and Wounded Warriors, who have been treated so horribly by our all talk, no action politicians. Like running for office as an extremely successful person, this takes guts and it is the kind mentality our country needs in order to Make America Great Again.

Update: Fox News released their own statement to Deadline, accusing the Trump campaign of making threats to continually harass Megyn Kelly: “We can’t give in to terrorizations toward any of our employees.”

“As many of our viewers know, Fox News is hosting a sanctioned debate in Des Moines, Iowa on Thursday night, three days before the first votes of the 2016 election are cast in the Iowa Caucus. Donald Trump is refusing to debate seven of his fellow presidential candidates on stage that night, which is near unprecedented. We’re not sure how Iowans are going to feel about him walking away from them at the last minute, but it should be clear to the American public by now that this is rooted in one thing – Megyn Kelly, whom he has viciously attacked since August and has now spent four days demanding be removed from the debate stage. Capitulating to politicians’ ultimatums about a debate moderator violates all journalistic standards, as do threats, including the one leveled by Trump’s campaign manager Corey Lewandowski toward Megyn Kelly. In a call on Saturday with a Fox News executive, Lewandowski stated that Megyn had a ‘rough couple of days after that last debate’ and he ‘would hate to have her go through that again.’ Lewandowski was warned not to level any more threats, but he continued to do so. We can’t give in to terrorizations toward any of our employees. Trump is still welcome at Thursday night’s debate and will be treated fairly, just as he has been during his 132 appearances on Fox News & Fox Business, but he can’t dictate the moderators or the questions.”

94 Responses to Trump To Fox News Debate: Drop Dead!

        • It could be a challenge for her. If she challenges his BS and bullying some will see her as a shrew but if she shows any weakness Trump will pounce because that is what hyenas do. On the other hand I don’t see myself ever voting for HRC but if she ripped him a new one like he deserves I may reconsider. She would be doing a public service by exposing this phony blowhard for all to see. Then again anyone who can’t see that now is probably brain dead anyway.

        • No, not at all but she is much smarter than him and much more used to being challenged. Also much more knowledgeable in areas a candidate should be expected to know. Don’t get me wrong I’m not pro-Hilary by any means but Trump is the stereotypical rich boy born on 3rd base thinking he hit a triple and in his case complaining that he was treated unfairly and robbed of a home run.

The Duck constantly raves about how smart and talented he is but if he had not started out with daddy’s millions we would have never heard of him.

          • I agree that Hildebeast is not stupid! Trump did inherit wealth. He also has parlayed that wealth into quite a bit (10 billion?). I am concerned about Hildebeast’s ethics. All the money flowing into the Clinton Foundation from foreign countries that were dealing with the U.S. WHILE Hildebeast was Secretary of State has quite an odor to it.

          • Gee, what about Trump’s ethics? He filed bankruptcy 4 times so he didn’t have to pay his bills….who did you think had to pay them (hint: the taxpayers)! This is ethical??? Additionally, money coming into the Clinton Foundation from foreign countries had NOTHING to do with Hillary’s position. Anything that these particular countries needed would have to go through a committee that she had no part of. I also believe, and I may be wrong, that these countries gave money to the Foundation BEFORE she was even asked to be Secretary of State.

          • Trump says 10 bil, other more objective estimates are closer to 4 bil. That’s still a lot of money though it has to make you wonder why someone that wealthy would feel the need to exaggerate. If Trump had just invested the money he was given in mutual funds he would worth over a billion today. Anyone starting with the stake he was given and his father’s contacts, obtained a quality business education and was totally without scruples could have done as well or better.

I understand your concern for HRC’s ethics. I share them and it’s highly unlikely that i would ever vote for her. That said it’s interesting that for all the investigations nothing has ever stuck to her. If Trump had been as thoroughly investigated he would be in prison. What in Trump’s behavior makes you think he is ethical? For starters he is a confirmed liar, at least as much so as the career pols he tries to contrast himself with.

    • Does make one wonder how the Donald would stand up to Putin. It should be beneath someone running for President trying to ruin someone’s career because they don’t like the questions.

      • Picture it…The Donald rants and raves louder than Putin. Putin grabs a 10,000 mega watt amp and gets louder than The Donald. The Donald removes his leather gloves and slap slap slap…right across Putin’s face. Whereupon, the Russian contingent of the KGB forcibly remove The Donald to Siberia, thankfully never to be heard or seen again.

    • What’s he going to do if he has to deal with a female in charge of a country; i.e., Merkel? Do you think he’d speak to her the way he speaks to other women? I’d hate to hear what he has to say about her once he gets back to the White House….how long would it be before he wouldn’t be allowed in that country again? He’s such a thin skinned idiot!!!

  1. Fox News can’t use Trump as their “Money Making Machine” and still treat him badly. If Fox News is not careful, their viewers will disappear forever. Trump doesn’t support himself, his supporters do.

      • Oh! come on, they did treat him badly during the first debate. Of all the 17 contenders on stage that time, why was only Trump who they picked treating women badly? What about Chris Christie who kept a nurse in a tent because she came to treat Ebola affected people. Just imagine if that nurse was a man do you think Christie would have treated him that way?

        • Just because other candidates may have been treated even more kindly doesn’t mean the question posed to him was unfair, after all as he keeps reminding us, he is the front runner and he should expect to face more heat. We don’t know how Christie would have treated a male nurse but Trump’s male chauvinism is well documented.

No doubt it’s true that Trump was not treated with the deference he is accustomed to and believes is his due.

        • Maybe because he DOES treat women badly….some of his comments are disgusting! As for the nurse in the tent….she wasn’t there because she came to treat Ebola patients…she was there because she was exposed to someone who had ebola and they didn’t want her to expose others. Maybe if you ACTUALLY read the news….the REAL news…you would know that!

  2. His hosting an Iowa Veteran event will get more ratings and coverage than the sad Republician debate scheduled without his attendance

    • Agreed. I won’t waste my time watching Fox News debate. I better use it watching Iowa veteran event which really means something. Those veterans need help and not Fox News money makers.

      • It ain’t Trump (or any other Republican nominee) that’s going to help our veterans….they’ve had several chances these past years and have voted “NO” on most of the veteran bills that have come across their desks! Why would they suddenly start now about caring for veterans….where were they when the votes were counted and the bills were not passed?

  3. I never watch Fox News, but once they stood up to a bully. Trump think he can tell a news network what to do, who be the moderator and other things. He want everything his way and if he don’t he threaten them. I say send him a package with pacifiers, diapers with a note saying stop acting like a baby, stop acting like a bully, in other words GROW UP and act his age.

  4. Yesterday, all of the neo nazis and white supremacists, from David Duke, to Joe Arpaio, came out to publicly endorse Trump. If any of you had any suspicions or doubts before, you should know all you need to know now.

This is the Republican Party. It is official.

I do not believe choosing between Socialism or Nazism is our only choice. Neither extreme serves this country well or represents who we are as a country.

I hope the American media/press is deep into self introspection to determine how well they served their responsibility as The Fourth Rail of Democracy in treating this standard bearer with all of the seriousness, deference, and free PR 24/7 that they never gave to the ones who came before him who preached the same stuff.

    • No country can move forward in yo yo motion. The current president lifted the country out of an economic mess. What’s needed more than anything at this point in time is continuity. Not complete overhauls. This disruption of the current policies to reinvent new ones that take more tax dollars to implement and more than 8 years means another 8 years of haggling and obstruction by the GOP whose only agenda is to make all US Big Businesses tax free whether or not they create US jobs for Americans or not. Continuity is the only mechanism at this point that can stabilize the future for our kids.

        • The GOP has a saying, “We NEVER lose.” What that means is that even when they lose, they fix it so the winner can’t win. Isn’t that what they did to Obama? But, not to worry…with so many testicles in charge of every detail and major GOP decision, they are going to be outsmarted by the glut of females in Congress today who will outwit these spoiled overindulged little boys by giving them “time outs.” You are right. This WILL drive them nuts. There has NEVER been a woman who didn’t know how to deal with boys who pull tantrums.

        • Yeah, that’ll be interesting. I wonder how much we’ll hear from the RW trolls the day after the election when their group of clowns lose!!!

        • DAvid!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! There..I just fed your silly cowboy fetish for exclamation points. Now..There is NO trillion in debt. In fact, your state got $16 billion of that $18 trillion you lie about. Your state also got another $50 billion for “border patrols” .BIG RICH TEXAS THAT WHOLE OTHER COUNTRY …that steals more from other states and then blames the US debt on everyone but themselves. Don’t you cowboys get the concept that if you ARE to blame, YOU GET the BLAME? !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!…. just helping you with your fetish.

          • Eleanore!!!! Even if the numbers you cite are accurate (which we both know you have dreamed them up), then the 16 billion given to Texas represents .0008889 percent of National debt. Not very much when you think about all that Lone Star beer we are sending you Yankees. By the way, are you enjoying the brisk weather you are experiencing? It’s in the 60’s down here. Have a blessed day.

        • Unfortunately, David, you don’t realize that President Obama doesn’t do the “spending.” Congress has to approve any spending that goes on in our Government. You may want to study your civics a little more…..President Obama is NOT spending your money…..

          • Technically true. But, the POTUS does lead where areas of spending will occur. Obomo made it a point in his campaign in ’08 to saddle GW Bush with blame for the national debt increasing to 7 trillion. Even with a Democratic controlled Congress.

      • The GOP is trying to turn our government into an “imperial” government. By having Republicans for governors of most states, turning both the Senate and the House into a Republican stronghold, selecting extremely conservative Supreme Court Justices, etc. They want to establish a kingdom and NOT the United States! Our Founding Fathers would roll over in their graves if they could see what havoc the Republican party has started!
For some reason, Trump (and some of the other GOP nominees) seem to think that they can walk in to the Oval Office and do away with ACA, Planned Parenthood, etc. and don’t really realize that most of this has to go through Congress for approval, etc. They are NOT kings, and they need to realize that some of their goals are not legal and not doable!

        • The one thing Republican men hadn’t bargained for in their quest for ultimate control of government was more Democratic women in Congress. There are some very extraordinary women in Congress today who are Alphas who have no reservations whatever about telling Republican men and their simpering, pathetically emotionally dependent women, they are wrong. And worse, these women are unafraid to stare down any Republican until he has to look away and prove how powerless they really are.

Those of us who live in the NY/NJ area are quite used to The Donald’s tantrums. He went through the same thing when he tried to take on former NY City Mayor Ed Koch. Trump’s own father had to tell Sonny to shut his mouth. Then, The Donald thought he could have any piece of land to develop in NY City without anyone looking at what he was doing…like the Brooklyn Navy Yard Deal he thought was set in stone until the boys in Albany had other ideas.

He’s mixed it up with Leona Helmsley when he tried to get a little too close to her hotels.

Trump and his tantrums are predictable. And most of them are predicated by his “escape” route. He always bails in a bluster. He did it with the Miss Universe contest and the Taj Mahal Casino. He won’t last another 2 months in the campaign. And the word is out that his Playboy Centerfold Wife is about to be Golddigger Wive No. 4…He can’t manage a divorce and a campaign…look for him to bail any day now.

  5. Both Fox and the Duck are wrong about one thing (well many things actually). None of these circus shows have even remotely resembled a debate. Trump, and most of others as well, would lose a real debate with any serious high school student. In a debate you don’t win by making things up as you go, constantly repeating the same lies and also constantly reminding everyone of how smart you think you are.

    • The reality is that while the show must go on, The GOP is behind the scenes working like mad dogs pulling off yet another under the cover takeover. Works for them.

    • I’ve read several articles re: Republicans being a little tired of the Republican debates….it’s turning away quite a few of their voters. Listening to a bunch of children calling each other names is NOT a debate!

  6. The RNC already bared their collective throats once on this debate. They uninvited the Managing Editor of the National Review for disparaging comments he made about THE DONALD in the magazine. Now FOX news told them to pack sand and refused to dump Megyn Kelly as one of the moderators. So, what does the 5 time draft dodger do? He says he’s gonna go to a Veterans’ event.

If I were one of the organizers of that event, I would politely ask THE DONALD to stay away so the event can focus on the needs of veterans, instead of the bombast of someone whose father used his influence multiple times to keep his precious child from having to serve.

      • Well, I am a Veteran and I support conservative candidates because:
        a. They are not tax and spend demagogues; and,
        b. They support our active military.

Now you know why the Demorats don’t like the military vote and tried to keep those troops stationed overseas from having their votes counted.

        • You are right they only cut taxaes to the rich, Snyder is paying for it big time, and Kansas can’t afford to pay the teachers, all due to being very conservatives, nice job David soon the world will all be it a pit hole, because of conservatism.

          • I don’t know much, if anything, about Kansas politics. I do know that taxes on the “rich” or “poor” or in between is NOT the way to grow an economy. Let’s create jobs and produce goods. We don’t need to foster an environment that encourages our companies to move overseas.

      • And they have….many times in the past 7+ years! Apparently, the GOP likes us to forget that point and blame it on our president!

    • Didn’t know Trump was a five timer. That ties him with Dickhead Cheney. A draft dodger? He joins the vast majority of Americans in this Country who have never served in any Armed Force activity. Are you a Veteran? Today and for the past 15 years less than 1% of our Nation has served in the Military. Think of it – 1% putting their lives on the line tot protect 99% of ??.

Not something to be proud of. I served in two branches of the Military and alos in the Guard and I am still involved. I am proud of my Service to My Country.

      • So strange, oldtack, how the country has changed. Back when I was young the majority of men had served during WW1 (my father), WW2 (5 uncles), or Korea (2 uncles). I did not enlist until the end of Korea so my service doesn’t count since I only served in continental US & terrirories. Of course, the majority never saw action since American military support troops far out numbers combat troops in the modern era.

        • One thing bothers me in your post and that is your statement “I did not enlist until the end of Korea so my Service doesn’t count” That is wrong. Your Service did count. Why? because when you raised your right hand you pledged to serve and protect your Country up to and including dying if necessary to complete an assignment or to achieve an objective. You had no idea when you took that oath whether there would be peace or another War but you were prepared. And what would happen if the United States stood down after every War and had no Military Forces? Those that serve in peacetime are every bit as valuable as those who fight the battles in War because You are trained and ready if the call to arms comes on your watch. I salute you as a fellow brother.

          • Well, oldtack, I did not want to sound like some of those famous war “heroes” like Reagan who heroically served in Hollywood and protected us from being invaded by Mexico during WW2.

          • Understand that. about Reagan and some of his Ilk. My wife and I work with Veterans and the homeless and PTSDS. Worse than Reagan we find those posing as vets that have never gotten close to a recruiting Station . All fake – but to listen to them they were combat Veterans of bitter fighting..

  7. Finally we may be able to listen to a debate where we actually find out what the candidates policies are instead of a loud mouth ridiculing everyone. Meagan Fox did not unfairly question Trump, she simply ask him about his comments regarding women like Carly Fiorina’s looks, women’ s less than 10 bodies etc etc . Can anyone tell me why he can continually demean, ridicule and insult people and now he pulls out of a debate because he is treated unfairly in his eyes. Big immature baby. I for the first time in my life applaud Fox, but I am still Leary about both Trump and Fox’s motives. It goes to show you it is all about ratings and money and Fox nor Trump give a damn about the people.

    • Yes true, which is why the most successful people, politicians, business owners etc. all tend to be a tad self-centered, arrogant, back stabbing ego maniacs, who are great actors. They have to be to survive in that world. If I didn’t tell so many people to “F” off, chances are I’d be a great politician!

        • If he would ever stop talking about himself and how wonderful he is, how rich he is, and what a great writer he is (probably had a ghostwriter for his stupid book)!

          • I did hear he had at least one ghost writer. I pity whoever it was (or whoever they were). The shear amount of butt kissing would be amazing.

      • I believe in business especially that is probably true, being “a tad self-centered” is a bit of a masterpiece of understatement, have known too many jerks who might be somewhat or very smart but have that extra gene of “screwing you before you can screw them” along with playing all sides of the fence or any means justifies the end….. most successful politicians have one extra quality, they tend to like people and love to mix with them, some with sincerity… some with cynicism and calculation. Trump epitomizes everything that is WRONG with the worst of those qualities of being a self obsessed authoritarian businessmen and completely narcissistic politician… anyone can buy what he is selling is a complete mystery to me other than the obvious bigotry/xenophobia he spews playing to the unfortunate fact that this country still has a long way to go to outgrow this disgusting flaw …….

  8. Awwww, The Donald’s “weenie” side is showing. So let’s see, the little rich boy born to the manor and has it ALL can’t stand a woman questioning him on an equal basis with his competition…Well, how very Corporate Control Freak of him. This guy is headed south and this is his first step to the escape route he always slinks out of. rofl.

    • It amazes me that his wife puts up with him….but, I guess money talks! Personally, I’d rather live on the street in a tent than live with him as a husband!!! I wonder if he treats his wife like she’s his property and not his life partner? Wouldn’t doubt it!

  9. Poor little Donnie Trump, was playing in the park with other children and one said something uncomfortable to him. Little Donnie ran home to mommy crying and saying “I will never go to the playground again. Megyn picked on me and said some bad things to me. Can you see Little Donnie negotiating peace with a foreign leader, and the leader says something upsetting to Little Donnie; his reaction, “I am taking my marbles and going home”.

    • No, he’s just start threatening them with annihilation….see how far that goes? He doesn’t know HOW to negotiate with anyone, especially negotiating peace. AND, who would want to deal with his tantrums and threats?

  10. I really find trump obnoxious and repulsive, but I hope he did tell them to drop dead. And MK is just a well-spoke underwear model, I have no respect for her hypocrisy and believe woman who despise liberalism should lose all that liberalism has allowed them. That goes for anyone ungrateful of what others suffered for, worked hard for and many cases died for, so they can live a better life!

  11. What a coward. But then, we already knew that about him. Quivering in fear that he might have to face the oh-so-scary Megyn Kelly and be forced to respond to questions he didn’t get to pick for himself, as at some other GOP debates, and possibly even be forced to answer follow-ups from moderators who haven’t been whipped into submission ahead of time, as in other GOP debates. And so, The Donald has made yet another epic blunder (giving Palin a mike was another): he is allowing his rivals an uncontested platform to rip him up one side and down the other for a couple hours on nationwide TV, without any chance to interrupt or toss insults around to muddy the waters. What a coward. And a fool…

  12. Trump inevitably will win this one, too. He has aroused the sheep to fever pitch and he’s going to keep it going. The media is saying they will cover whatever event Trump holds instead of attending the debate. This stunt will just further endear him to his flock.

    • I tend to agree with you and I have to admit I get pretty ticked when MSNBC, as well as CNN, and of course Fox, breaks in with some dumb event Trump is speaking at several times a day almost everyday. Am to the point of emailing MSNBC a little note to STOP DOING IT…..nothing he says is newsworthy, and frankly he sickens me with his hateful rhetoric and insults and bragging, bragging, blah, blah, blah. Am beginning to believe the press may be a little stuoooopid with their shinny object of obsession, Trump, for the time being not realizing the damage they are doing and that they are being played big time by Trump the manipulator…..sad state of affairs this election season!

  13. Don’t underestimate Donald Trump. Go through the net and examine some of his business dealings. He’s not a wimp and he’s not a dumb ass. He is a good actor when the need arises but a tough businessman when the chips are down

At this point what he will do is anyone’s guess. He stated this morning he was not going to be at the debate. Really? Or will we see more power play behind the scenes. With Putin and China? I think he could hold his own. I’m not a Trump supporter and I’m definitely not a Republican. I will not vote for a Republican in this race – but don’t count Trump out until the “last shot” is fired. This is very interesting – and entertaining.

  14. Perfect example of the petulant child that he is. Shows how presidential he is(n’t). This POS would be the face, heart and soul of our country in the eyes of the rest of the world. Lovely, f’n lovely.

      • So automatically anyone who sees Der Fuhrer Trump for the racist, fascist, bigot that he is is a Clinton fan? There are another 10 GOP candidates and 3 Democrats but it’s got to be Clinton! You fit right in with the rest of them: Knee jerk reactionary. Moron!!!!!!

        • You fit the criteria of a disillusioned & out of touch pathetic individual. We as American citizens have the freedom to vote for who we want. Remember that.

          TRUMP 16′?

    • The Donald has already insulted Angela Merkel PM of Germany and leaders in England several times now, am sure he will have insulted several more in Europe and elsewhere by the time he is done……Trump perfectly epitomizes “the UGLY AMERICAN” stereo-type being “the loud mouth, know it all, arrogant and insulting of all others” and have read that is exactly what Europeans have been writing about him……now that’s a pure embarrassment as an American to read and hear and we certainly do not want this racist, misogynist, hateful braggart and bigot representing this country anywhere on this planet!

  15. To all the Trump haters posting on this site. Are your heads that far up you’re a$$es that you want to continue with the politics we’ve been beaten down by. Career politicians who are working for there rich lobbyist friends and do nothing for its citizens. C’mon you people cant be that stupid. Then again you are!!! We finally got someone who really cares about us. Don’t let it go away.

    • You ACTUALLY think Trump cares about you? Wow, have you ever been misled, or you haven’t done your homework!!! This man has taken our taxpayer money 4X when he filed bankruptcy and gloats about it. Doesn’t seem like someone who wants to help the citizens! And, the only “beating down” that I’ve seen has been the preposterous blockages made by the GOP the past 7+ years. It doesn’t matter what President Obama suggests….they have been told to not agree with it from Day One. Think how much COULD have been accomplished if they had gotten their feet out of their A$$$$es and actually DONE something for the citizens.

    • I had to wait until I stopped laughing before I could reply. You think Trump cares about us but you think others have their head up their a$$? WOW!!!! You’re right about most career politicians but if you think any billionaire, especially a megalomaniac like Trump, cares about anything but maintaining their own lavish lifestyle then you are possibly the most naive person alive.

  16. Funny….it was the “all talk, no action” group of GOP Congressmen and women who voted no on most of the bills put forth to help our veterans… quickly the Republicans forget that (or try to hide the truth). As a veteran, I don’t want Trump to do ANYTHING for me! He’s a narcissistic, bloviating POS!!!
