All suspicious Muslims, beware: Big Donald Is Watching You.

Donald Trump has rolled out his latest proposal for homeland security, which can be summarized as: You should keep a close eye on Muslims moving into your neighborhoods, and immediately call the local police on them — even though you’ll probably be wrong, but that’s okay.

At his rally Tuesday night in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, Trump slammed President Obama for allegedly not calling out extremism in Muslim communities: “I don’t know what’s wrong with Obama — he wants to close his eyes and pretend it’s not happening. Why is he so emphatic on not solving the problem?”

The Donald then hearkened back to his old pre-candidacy activism, when he advocated for conspiracy theories about the president’s background. “There’s something we don’t know about! There’s something we don’t know about,” he said, as audience members could be heard shouting out that Obama is really a Muslim himself.

The key section begins at the 1:04:50 mark below.

Then he got to the real meat of his proposal.

“People move into a house a block down the road — you know who’s going in. You can see,” he said. “And you report them to the local police. You know, it’s too complicated — call the federal government, who do we call? it’s a big bureaucratic mess, nobody knows what they’re doing, okay?”

“Report them!” he went on to add. “Most likely you’ll be wrong, and that’s okay. But let the local police go in and check out [sic], and you’ll get rid of this stuff. That’s the best way. Everybody’s their own cop, in a way — I mean, you gotta do it, you gotta do it.”

Who knows, perhaps The Donald has actually got a point here: People should be on the lookout for suspicious behavior from any neighbors — like maybe if they put a Donald Trump campaign sign on their lawn.

Here are his full remarks from that section:

We can’t let it happen anymore. We have to be strong, we have to smart. We have to be fair, we have to be fair to all side. And it’s tough. You know, if you’re Muslim — and there are so many, they’re so great, they’re such good people — but we to be smart, because it’s coming from this area. I mean, there’s something going on. There’s some nastiness, there’s some meanness there. There’s something going on in the mosques and other places. And we have to at least say there’s a problem so we can solve it. We can’t close our eyes.

I don’t know what’s wrong with Obama — he wants to close his eyes and pretend it’s not happening. Why is he so emphatic on not solving the problem? There’s something we don’t know about! There’s something we don’t know about. (Shouts from the audience can be heard, declaring that Obama is a Muslim.)

So, we have to go out — and again, the greatest source for this is our local police. And the really greatest source is all of you, because you have all those eyes. And you see what’s happening. People move into a house a block down the road — you know who’s going in. You can see. And you report them to the local police. You know, it’s too complicated — call the federal government, who do we call? it’s a big bureaucratic mess, nobody knows what they’re doing, okay?

But you people, and me and everybody, you know when somebody moves to an apartment near you, or to a house near you — you’re pretty smart, right? We know if there’s something going on. Report them! Most likely you’ll be wrong, and that’s okay. But let the local police go in and check out [sic], and you’ll get rid of this stuff. That’s the best way. Everybody’s their own cop, in a way — I mean, you gotta do it, you gotta do it.

11 Responses to Trump: Watch Who Moves Into Your Neighborhood — Then Call The Police!

  1. You have got to be kidding me. Eventually, I’m sure Trump will propose a “Muslim looking person moving onto your block” hotline for all Americans. Yes, for those times when you think your neighbour may be doing honour killings all hours of the night but you’re just not sure who to call.

He’ll probably follow that up with his most H-U-G-E foolproof plan ever to ensure that immigrants are culturally and economically compatible. It will guarantee greater harmony and seamless integration. Trump will call it, “the bacon sandwich test.”

    Yikes!

  2. I’m afraid this is a wake up call for dumb America.
We can’t afford your stupidity any more.

    Here are the choices:

    1) Get educated. Learn actual facts. Question authority. Test candidates. Double check closely held beliefs. Try new things. Understand science and why it works. Discuss new ideas. Talk with people who disagree with you. Elect someone who will help move the country forward.

    2) Stay in the bubble. Deny science. Tax the rich even less and wait for the trickle to hit you. Promote faith. Remain racist. Pervert education. Ignore facts. Teach creationism. Be fearful of new ideas. Yell at people who disagree with you. Understand that the Rapture is coming. Blame hurricanes on gay people. Ignore Climate Change. Learn to swim. Elect The Donald.

    • I know it’s not a good comparison, but Trump doesn’t represent the average American voter any more than John Key represents the average voter in your native New Zealand or Stephen Harper once did in my native Canada. Hillary Clinton or Bernie Sanders would crush Trump in the general Presidential election. At least all of the polls show that so far.

      • Eugene Robinson wrote an interesting article that was highlighted in the Salt Lake Tribune that you might find of interest if you haven’t seen it.

        It’s titled:

        Robinson: The GOP’s self-inflicted wound

        Here’s an excerpt:

The insurrection that has reduced Jeb Bush to single-digit support while Trump and Carson soar is nothing more than the understandable reaction of the jilted. Republican leaders have spent the years of the Obama presidency inflaming GOP base voters with extreme rhetoric and wooing them with empty promises. The establishment won its goal — electoral gains in Congress and many statehouses — but in the process may have lost the party.

Unrest was brewing among true-believer conservatives even before Barack Obama took office as the first African-American president. George W. Bush had angered the base with his budget-busting expenditures for Middle East wars and a new prescription drug benefit under Medicare. What had happened to the party’s commitment to fiscal responsibility?

        • Good article. There’s been another contributing factor to making the GOP almost unelectable in a national popular vote any more, in my opinion. That is, their rigging of the Congress through incredible gerrymandering; the so-called red map strategy. The results of 2010 allowed them to do that.

It’s given them an overly confident, cocky, warped sense of reality that’s not conducive to genuine self-analysis and reflection. That’s what can happen over time when you know that you can’t lose control of the Congress until at least the next decade, no matter how people vote (or possibly beyond, as many of the state level districts have been jiggered too). It tends to give you an incorrect sense of just how “popular” you really are. It’s almost as though they’ve forgotten what they did 5 years ago.

These rigged districts also produce far right extremist congresspeople, some of whom go on to run for President later.

They may also be playing a waiting game, thinking that eventually they’re bound to fluke or vote suppress their way into the White House somehow over the next 10 years. When that happens, they’ll finally have the extremist President that they’re looking for, and control of the Congress too. Possibly the Senate as well.
