Thousands Of Anti-Trump Protesters Take To The Streets

Anti-Trump, Protesters, Trump Inauguration

CHICAGO/NEW YORK (Reuters) – Demonstrators marched in cities across the United States on Wednesday to protest against Republican Donald Trump’s surprise presidential election win, blasting his campaign rhetoric about immigrants, Muslims and other groups.

In New York, thousands filled streets in midtown Manhattan as they made their way to Trump Tower, Trump’s gilded home on Fifth Avenue. Hundreds of others gathered at a Manhattan park and shouted “Not my president.”

In Los Angeles, protesters sat on the 110 and 101 highway interchange, blocking traffic on one of the city’s main arteries as police in riot gear tried to clear them. Some 13 protesters were arrested, a local CBS affiliate reported.

An earlier rally and march in Los Angeles drew more than 5,000 people, many of them high school and college students, local media reported.

A demonstration of more than 6,000 people blocked traffic in Oakland, California, police said. Protesters threw objects at police in riot gear, burned trash in the middle of an intersection, set off fireworks and smashed store front windows.

Police responded by throwing chemical irritants at the protesters, according to a Reuters witness.

Two officers were injured in Oakland and two police squad cars were damaged, Johnna Watson, spokeswoman for the Oakland Police Department told CNN.

In downtown Chicago, an estimated 1,800 people gathered outside the Trump International Hotel and Tower, chanting phrases like “No Trump! No KKK! No racist USA.”

Chicago police closed roads in the area, impeding the demonstrators’ path. There were no immediate reports of arrests or violence there.

“I’m just really terrified about what is happening in this country,” said 22-year-old Adriana Rizzo in Chicago, who was holding a sign that read: “Enjoy your rights while you can.”

In Seattle, police responded to a shooting with multiple victims near the scene of anti-Trump protests. Police said it was unrelated to the demonstrations.

Protesters railed against Trump’s campaign pledge to build a wall along the border with Mexico to keep immigrants from entering the United States illegally.

Hundreds also gathered in Philadelphia, Boston and Portland, Oregon, on Wednesday evening. In Austin, the Texas capital, about 400 people marched through the streets, police said.

A representative of the Trump campaign did not respond immediately to requests for comment on the protests. Trump said in his victory speech he would be president for all Americans, saying: “It is time for us to come together as one united people.”

Earlier this month, his campaign rejected the support of a Ku Klux Klan newspaper and said that “Mr. Trump and his campaign denounces hate in any form.”

“DREAMERS” FEAR DEPORTATION

Earlier on Wednesday, some 1,500 students and teachers rallied in the courtyard of Berkeley High School, in a San Francisco Bay Area city known for its liberal politics, before marching toward the campus of the University of California, Berkeley.

Hundreds of high school and college students also walked out in protest in Seattle, Phoenix, Los Angeles and three other Bay Area cities – Oakland, Richmond and El Cerrito.

A predominantly Latino group of about 300 high school students walked out of classes on Wednesday in Los Angeles and marched to the steps of City Hall, where they held a brief but boisterous rally.

Chanting in Spanish “the people united will never be defeated,” the group held signs with slogans such as “Not Supporting Racism, Not My President” and “Immigrants Make America Great.”

Many of those students were members of the “Dreamers” generation, children whose parents entered the United States with them illegally, school officials said, and who fear deportation under a Trump administration.

“A child should not live in fear that they will be deported,” said Stephanie Hipolito, one of the student organizers of the walkout. She said her parents were U.S. citizens.

There were no immediate reports of arrests or violence.

Wednesday’s demonstrations followed a night of protests in the San Francisco area and elsewhere in the country in response to Trump’s victory against heavily favored Democratic rival Hillary Clinton.

Violence is starting. People threatening to kill, as well as burn the country down. Here are a few of the latest articles but many more can be found.

So after all the accusations against GOP for rally violence and so forth, it was the liberals who were the violent side after all. When the man who looked black got elected, opposers didnt riot, burn, main, threaten, kill, bomb. They accepted and settled down. After I came to despise Obama for breaking all of his campaign promises, still I didnt scream “he isnt my president” from the rooftops.I settled down, went back to work and waited for a better day–a day I never expected to be Trump, of all people.

If you truly want a fight, you may get one. Problem this time is that Trump supporters will likely wait until after Jan 23 to fight back because by then Obama cant cover Hillary supporters. Violence is a giant mistake. Civil war is a giant mistake but you may well get it.

What kind of insane, crazy lunatics are you to say “people have to die.” You people are sick, sick and SICK.

Here is pure hate mongering. Nothing healing. Created to upset people more. Stir the pot! Rile them up! Who hates? Liberals hate!

You pressured GOP to accept the results (on the firm assumption Hillary would win). When she didnt win, you went crazy and refused to accept. You are done, no viability, no credibility. All low, violent creatures, thats all you are. Commie filth.

Violence started long before Trump showed his puss on the TV screens. Where have you been? And violence erupted at Trump rallies, in Greenville, Miss., at KKK rallies—need I go on?

Yes Obama started his distaste for peace from the start at Cambridge stating the cops were stupid, siding with rioters at Ferguson, siding with BLM essentially fomenting the worse racial strife ever seen since the 60s and 70s . I was there .

Take a minor incident and blow it out of proportion—that’s your specialty. You neither know the background of the incident, not the context that led to the event in the first place. Such ignorance is a large part of why America has lost its way.

I was up there when it happened , Obama was trying to “down with the struggle ” but could not pull it off , since he was actually of white privilege and did not really know hardship of the inner city Black. You fail to see as you failed to see what the election was about . Truth is vital to harmony …. notes of Baha’i

So, I’m supposed to take your word because you say “I was up there…”? And pray tell, what does “Obama was trying to ‘down with the struggle’ but could not pull it off” mean??

If you’re going to make a point to enlighten me or anyone else, at least be cogent and coherent.

And yes, Baha’u’llah does say that truth is an important virtue; I just wish that Trump knew how to tell the truth consistently, and not make up something and call it the truth. But harmony is achieved not by just the truth, but also by embodying the Truth of “The Oneness of Humankind” in one’s actions and deeds. Talking about truth, and not utilizing it for the betterment of all humanity, negates the proper application of truth to bring about harmony.

Give that some thought and let me know your reactions.

You lack knowledge of basic Black history, “Down with the Struggle” meant a person being involved with the Martin Luther King marches for equality and the” struggle ” a Black person goes through in everyday dealings . Many Blacks feel they are oppressed by other , but that is not quite true, it is used as an excuse to feel victimized .

So, Einstein—why don’t you enlighten me on black history. Your presumptuous attitude is a stock attribute of a colonial-minded person who presumes to know more about a culture than the actual people of said culture know. You can’t shake that haughty feeling, no matter which century you live in.
And please explain to me what possesses a high-minded person like yourself to say that blacks are using an excuse by saying they are victims of racial superiority which you subscribe to.

When will you learn not to rely on your own abilities to think? Are you always reliant on what other finite minds say? Try being an independent thinker for a change, judge the facts with your own eyes and ears and not rely on your neighbor for the okie dokie.
I need not rely on a Joe Blow named Sal Alinsky to reach my own conclusions—this is what is referred to as independent investigation. Any Muslim should already be aware of this dictum which Muhammad taught—or are you something different than a Muslim today? You’re like a chameleon, shifting your appearance; sometimes you sound like a fanatical and insane patriotic American, and on another occasion you assert that you are a Muslim. It’s OK to be a Muslim and an American, but don’t become a sucker for the false notion of American Isolationism which is an antiquated notion in the 21st Century.

Nobody is condoning violence. It’s called the right to peaceful assembly, and it was mostly peaceful except for some incidents in Oakland. When you have that number of protesters across the country, somebody is bound to do something. You know that.

Fox News is now blasting headlines about assaulting democracy or something, which is ignoring their own constitutional right to protest. The constitution only applies to right wing demonstrators apparently. Fox News actually helped organize Tea Party protests across the country in 2008 and 2009 because of the newly elected Black Democrat in the White House. Where were they then in decrying democracy? There was violence at those protests too.

Strange, how we should get over it and come together now, when “love of country (not over party though) forgets that it was his party that divided this country and filled it with hate. When his jerkoff party decided, in the beginning, to make Obama a one term president. When his party blatantly violates the Constitution of the United States of America by refusing to hold hearings on a presidential appointee. They violate federal laws when 47 senators write a letter to a foreign head in a country that Obama was negotiating with. He belongs to a party that even the Republican FBI head violates the Hatch Act by throwing out an innuendo designed to reinforce the other innuendoes, three days before an election. He belongs to a party that has wasted millions of taxpayer dollars on hearings. Every administration has had diplomatic facilities attacked and, in the past, we came together as Americans. His fascist party politicized it. Eight hearing by those creeps has not proven her guilty. She was not found guilty of anything sinister in her e-mails, but the party of hate has stayed right on it. No, we will not come together and support the fascists.

Your repetition of certain themes like “egg salad”, temperature in Oman, and other trite phrases, suggest that you learned to repeat certain things by learning from a recording—much like Eddie Murphy’s SNL rendition of Buckwheat listening to a recording of a standard phrase and repeating it over and over to remember how to respond.

Yeah! I guess that’s why it’s 10 GOP-governed states that have been honored for 2014 and 2015 as the most miserable states in America with the worst quality of life.

And that it’s 25 GOP-governed states that WalletHub designated as the states with the people the most broke and on the verge of bankruptcy.

And that’s also why WalletHub also found that 30 of the 32 states where Americans can barely get from payday to payday and have the lowest personal consumption/capita in the nation are GOP-governed states.

And why it’s actually 14 Democrat-run states of the party of Obama that are actually providing the money to keep America and most red states out of bankruptcy because they’re the only states getting less than 95 cents/dollar back in federal aid that they send to Washington in Taxes.

And I guess that’s why Lawrence Wilkerson, Colin Powell’s Chief of Staff, said in a speech this spring to a bunch of Republicans in Houston, Texas that if it wasn’t for all the tax dollars California and New York send to Washington for red states to suck back in federal aid, America’s GOP southern states would look like Bangladesh today.

This is the result of racist rhetoric which has been sanctioned indirectly, and to a large degree, by the GOP. Only the most naive person would think that Trump’s outrageous assertions and toxic messages would have no consequences. The tongue can be like a smoldering fire when used improperly, cited Baha’u’llah on several occasions. Slurs, racist rhetoric, demeaning of women, and bragging about fondling women leave a mark that outlasts a physical beating—the former if not severe can heal in time, but the remark of a tongue tinged with hate leaves a memory that lasts a lifetime and is simply not a matter of “getting over it”. Just ask any child who has been berated on numerous occasions; the results will remain and do damage to the psyche.
Trump’s tongue has left scars, and for that he has to pay a price in both this world, and in the world to come. But don’t take my word for it—take the gamble at your own risk.

    ——————————————————————————————————————
“…He must never seek to exalt himself above any one, must wash away from the tablet of his heart every trace of pride and vain-glory, must cling unto patience and resignation, observe silence and refrain from idle talk. For the tongue is a smoldering fire, and excess of speech a deadly poison. Material fire consumeth the body, whereas the fire of the tongue devoureth both heart and soul. The force of the former lasteth but for a time, whilst the effects of the latter endureth a century. …”
    —————————————————————————————————————–

Trump has been doing a lot of excessive speaking, demeaning whole groups of people, exalting himself as any narcissist is prone to do, and exuding a stifling sense of pride.

There’s still a possibility we can keep Trump out of the White House; one of those ways is getting him indicted for tax fraud and given a prison sentence.

So please checkout and sign my We the People petition at this link:

And share the link with as many people you know who may be willing to sign it.

    Thanks!!

Good luck. You need to understand and digest the fact that President elect Trump will be our president.

Like I told one other right-wing nutcase, don’t count your chickens before they hatch. Trump still has two hurdles, he has to get though.several felony cases without being convicted and sent to jail – not only the Trump University fraud case and a statutory rape case of a 13 year-old; he also has a potential tax fraud case the IRS can press because he committed tax fraud back in the 1990s that he’s used to get out of paying taxes for 18 years when in fact he should have been paying millions (when banks forgive your debt, you can’t claim that as a loss on your taxes – it should be reported as income).

And besides that, he has to get through the Electoral College vote when electors are allowed to vote for whomever they choose. And Trump has run up enough negative PR to have a number of Electors not vote for him on December 19th.

So like I said, don’t count your chickens. If he gets enough negative press in the upcoming law suits against him, he just may get enough Electors to vote for Hillary for her to get the presidency.

And even for Putin. Didn’t Romney claim in 2012 that Russia was America’s worst enemy? Suddenly, Trump’s cozy relationship with Putin doesn’t seem to matter – it’s like they don’t care of Trump let’s Russia take over Europe and maybe even America.
Maybe these mindless conservatives are just waiting until the day they can call each other ‘Comrade’.

hitler teamed up with Stalin to conquer and divide Poland. Then hitler turned on Russia. It isn’t the first alliance for nefarious reasons.

The religious right never had any standards. It’s all about pomposity and self-righteousness. People like that can rationalize anything.

You’re probably right. Anyone who would knowingly vote for a known con man, sexual pervert, outright bigot and racist, etc. to be America’s president, doesn’t have to many brains.

President elect Trump is your emperor, not “our” president. Like a predecessor of his, and thanks to a lack of respect by countless voters who chose to stay home and not vote despite blood shed in the past for the right to vote, Trump became “president” due to a technicality using an antiquated device called the electoral college.

Any sane person or anyone with even half a brain would have long ago recognized that Trump was(and is) mentally, emotionally, and personally unfit to even be near the WH.
Alas, you with your insular perception, as noted by how you choose to designate yourself, are incapable of recognizing a personal dysfunction when it presents itself, because “like seeketh like and enjoys the company of its kind”.

As an erstwhile Muslim, or one who claims to be, you show an astounding lack of judgment and see the world in the same manner as your forefathers and through the eyes of Trump, and not through your own eyes and using your own judgment. Trump might be considered the leader in the Sunni Tradition where someone is accepted as the Caliph or emir by popular consent and not necessarily according to wisdom, experience, and being a scion of the male lineage of Muhammad, as recognized by the Shi`ah community.

So, Trump is your Caliph, but he is certainly not a president, or presidential, by a long-shot.

I will never accept a fascist for president. There was a resistance movement in Germany that did not accept hitler.

In light of the crisis created by a lack of wisdom and driven by a vitriolic reaction towards another person because of their name, our core group is responding by working on a parallel track not by visible protesting as talked about, but by planning meetings for people to process this latest debacle courtesy of conservative-minded people.
We will be hosting a gathering just for teenagers and college youth who are also visibly upset by the lack of judgment by many of the adults around them, and allow them a space to recount their reactions and to hear each other and reflect.
I stepped forward to moderate when we ask which of us would facilitate, and so we will proceed to contact schools which some of us have personal connections with, and youth we know to attend. We feel that the better way to respond and see the events is by discussion, and keeping the partisan rhetoric out.

The President and HRC are appealing to our better angels; and Trump supporters and the wealthy are literally begging for the country to “come together” … these protests prove it will not happen. Good people will never join fascist, racist, misogynistic creeps.
