A single payer system covering everyone is the way to go, both from a cost and efficiency perspectives. The only concern I have about merging MEDICARE with ACA is the fact that if the GOP ever gets back in control they will zero in on ACA with a vengeance. The GOP makes a lot of noise about entitlements, but they seldom put their rhetoric into action because they know that any politician that dares touch SS and/or MEDICARE benefits would be well advised to start looking for another job the moment they do that.

The obvious answer is to ban riders, but that is not going to happen before Christmas and, most likely, next year or the year after next. Riders are used by both parties to slip things that ordinarily most people with minimal common sense would reject. That is the case with GMOs. The safety of GMOs must be debated, and if our elected officials agree to authorize their sale they should be clearly labeled for everyone to know what they are buying and how harmful those products are to our health.
A possible avenue to stop this from passing is to start a petition. As a minimum, we would give the issue the visibility it deserves.

I too am concerned about SS and Medicare because I am on it as well.

I would just like to point out to people, that there is a rider on this fiscal cliff bill and it doesn’t have anything to do with our ‘budget’…

The evil company, Monsanto, has included a rider on this bill in the hopes that our Senators will have their thoughts on the holidays and being with their families and they won’t notice it, in their haste to get the vote done and over with so they can go home for the holidays.

This rider has to do with GMOs and allowing Monsanto and all the other companies who promote GMOs to plant their products indescriminately and with no regulation. This must be stopped!

The underhanded practice of adding riders to ‘must vote yes’ bills has got to be stopped. God help us if GMOs are allowed to mess with Mother Nature.

Please don’t allow this rider to be tacked onto this! Some action must be taken to delete this. How can it be done? I ask you, Dominick, because you are so level headed and considerate in your replies.

Some controls were put in place and produced the $716B in saving the GOP promised to restore in an effort to reduce spending (negative logic at its best), but a lot more needs to be done. I am on SS and MEDICARE and I get a copy of the bills submitted by service providers from an outfit called CMA every time I go to the doctor or a lab. The charges service providers make are outrageous. They usually exceed what MEDICARE authorizes and pays by 5 or 6 times. At first, that practice baffled me, but it wasn’t long before I realized that what most service providers do is claim the unpaid balance as a loss to avoid paying taxes. The whole system is filled with corruption, fraud and abuse.
